Good coffee but not pretentious at all which is new for coffee places in Anchorage. I really like the staff at this location.

After seeing this place on the Source App, I was sure this would be good. Im guessing that it was decent coffee at some point, but those days are long gone. The roaster overcooked the beans (espresso and drip blend). This led to a burned taste in both the drip and the shots. I had a drip and a quad shot over ice. They both tasted burnt. I gave 2 stars because the baristas were super nice. The coffee was 0 stars. Source should take them off the app. read more

Definitely a nice spot for coffee although very tucked in to a corner of a strip mall. The baristas were friendly, efficient, and made good light conversation - expressing that business wasn't booming with COVID-19 as they were more used to. Which is unfortunate as the cappuccino and the herbal tea my wife got were great! Prices are all normal for a coffeeshop, decor was modern and looked to be a comfy spot to read, bring a laptop too or just grab and go (once we're allowed to hang out in coffeeshops again) Even picked up some Black Cup beans to grind and drink at home! read more

Great coffee spot with FREE refills and free WiFi. That's already a win-win! They have different flavors. Plus they use MUGS! Which is so nice to keep the coffee nice and warm as you ponder on what to do or no do. It's a very trendy looking coffee shop with very friendly staff. You see a lot of people working here with their laptops/ studying. Plenty of small tables along the window and in the back. Great place to catch up with friends. They have a food menu up in the front but didn't see anyone eat anything in the few days we visited. Pastries look amazing as well. They seem to be quite popular as there is always a line up front. We stopped in to see what they had for tea and dessert. It's a nice venue, I could see being very comfortable here if I wanted to spend time with friends or do some laptop work in a cafe. First impression upon walking in: "Wow, this place is jazzy! Is this really Anchorage?" The sleek, modern decor reminds me more of the coffee houses I've visited in Boston and Portland. There's plenty of seating room which makes this a great venue for studying, whether alone or in groups. I really like all the lighting details as well. And if you're like me you can appreciate the aesthetic of he shiny espresso machines and giant Burr grinders. I went in after work one day when it was fairly busy. Even so, I was able to find a seat easily. I think I had to wait longer to order my drink than to actually receive it since the man in front of me was very chatty. The girl at the register was pleasant. I opted for a cold brew since it was a pretty nice day. The cold brew was fantastic. Smooth, bold, but low acidity, as a cold brew should be. Unlike the cold brew served at Kaladi which always tasted off to me for some reason. Another plus: they're open late! At least late for a coffee shop in Anchorage. Every day they're open until 10pm, except for Sunday when they close at 8pm (which is when most coffee shops in town close every day) This is great for night owl coffee fiends such as myself. I probably sound like a hipster in this review, so I guess it's fitting than I like this place since it has that kind of vibe. will definitely be back to try their espresso some time. read more

I first stopped here for a cup of coffee and a lengthy conversation. My initial impression was formed at the door. The counter is placed in such a way that any line which forms is forced to wait outside. Once I made it inside I was able to pick from several available roasts. The gent working the counter was friendly and helpful. The bulk brewed coffee wasn't overly strong, tasted freshly brewed and was served hot. The seating areas are well spread out so I didn't feel as though the next table was an intimate part of my conversation. My second visit was for a mocha with cayenne syrup to go. The drink was prepared quickly and tasted good. It wasn't overly sweet and the cayenne syrup added a nice heat without being overwhelming. I'd rank Black Cup as one of my favorite coffee houses in Anchorage, noting that their ordering counter arrangement is less than welcoming. read more

I got a 8oz latte with oatmilk and Irish cream and my partner got a 16oz mocha. Both tasted perfect. A very stoic atmosphere for sure. I could barely hear what the staff were saying... plenty of seating available, very quiet atmosphere. Came here to catch up with a friend to enjoy some good coffee, but had the opposite experience. My friend came first so she ordered us 2 drinks. I came about 10 minutes after and our drinks weren't ready until 30 minutes after - I had to go up to ask if our orders were ready. Keep in mind - I'm not one to rush and I'm very understanding when it comes to a busy cafe. They weren't busy at all and when I asked where ours were, the barista made 2 drinks before even acknowledging that they messed up and didn't make ours at all until I had to ask a third time. Black Cup! How am I just now discovering you? The headline feature of Black Cup, for me, is that they are open till 11pm. That is *HUGE* for me. I work two jobs and one of them finds me in front of a laptop until late at night. It's nice to have a place to work that's free of all the distractions (I should shave! Do laundry! Alphabetize my climbing guides!) of home. Oh, and I'm a simple drip coffee guy. And drip coffee here has INFINITE refills. They have free Wi-Fi but I can't vouch for its speed. I'm so fed up with the piss-poor Wi-Fi in Anchorage that I don't' even bother anymore...I just tether to my phone and I'm done with it. The exterior looks like every other Anchorage strip mall, the interior looks like an old warehouse that was converted into a trendy loft. It's very PacNW, but probably more "Seattle" than "Portland". This will take some time acclimating to the new environment. I felt sad walking into the newly renovated location. I preferred the old ambiance. While very nicely updated and chic, the modern renewal is a complete flip from the home-y, cozy feeling I remember having with the old ambiance. No map (yet), no old burlap coffee sacks covering the counter, no more miss-matched wooden tables... I'm giving it 3 stars for the quality of their drinks. We had to pick someone up from the airport. We ordered three pour overs and got two at the same time. They must have forgotten about our third drink because that one did not come out at all. After 10 minutes we got two, she then said our third one is coming and we kept waiting. Long story short we were late to pick up our friend and she said oh I can get you a regular coffee if you're in a hurry. I said ok. But they did not offer a refund or even an apology. If it's going to take 30 minutes to get three drinks when there were no other customers ahead of us they should have told us that in advance we would have ordered something else.
