Cute sticker to keep our coffee from splashing.

Stayed in an Airbnb close by in Anchorage. My dad and I walked to the Black Bear coffee stand and hopefully didn't look foolish when we stood in line with the cars that had pulled up. We don't have these darling coffee houses on the East Coast but it was so splendid to look over their menu and speak with someone who was enthusiastic that early in the morning. The three times we walked over for coffee, the employee in the house was friendly and quick. Coffee was a bargain too! $3ish for 2 medium coffees. Also- no sales tax in AK! No excuse to not leave a small tip :)

    Cute stamp

I gave 3 stars but it's a 3.4-star to me. Pros: - Service is great! The lady was super attentive and flexible to changes. Noted that it's a coffee-shack, so there is no place to sit! DRIVE-THRU ONLY - The shake is heavenly! - The 12-oz breakfast burrito is great -- I'm no expert to Mexican food but it was tasty from my standard. It has a nice load of cheese, potatoes, eggs and sausages. Cons: - Food are all microwaved so don't set your expectation too high. @ The ham & cheese croissant is subpar -- since it's microwaved, it's nowhere near crunchy and tastes like a Walmart croissant @ We also ordered a cinnamon roll -- it's humongous! The size of an adult's hand! But it's really plain and dry so we had to give up on it after some bites. - If you like strong/more bitter coffee, you will probably not be impressed by the latte here. I ordered a 16-oz latte and it tasted plainer than Starbucks' 16-oz blonde latte. Adding an extra shot might help. Traveling from Boston, we think it's a great place to try local coffee. Meanwhile, we would say we had seen better coffee houses.

Very friendly staff and for us it is located in a great location! My husband and I ordered tiramisu lattes and they tasted amazing. If you see this place definitely stop by.

A good cup of coffee overall. The barista was good to speak with and the coffee was a fair price. I'm glad I stopped by here today and feel it's a nice local coffee shop.

I'm not a huge bagel eater but every now and then I get a real craving for a REAL delicious bagel, and I usually just let it slide and wish we had great bagels in Anchorage. Today I was feeling determined and used the old "YELP" machine and searched for fresh bagels near me and up popped Wooden Spoons. Pleasantly surprised it's just a hop skip and jump away from my abode I set off on a bagel mission. The store is super cute and has stair AND ramp access so accessibility is spot on, easy to park as well. They have a variety of bagels and spreads as well as bagel sandwiches all at what I would consider a great price point for fresh bagels in Alaska!! I took home an Asiago and a Nordic bagel as well as a Dill Pickle cream cheese spread. The bagels were spot on, great flavor and amazing texture. I tried the pickle dip on its own and the flavor and consistency was perfect, but I did add some of my own smoked salmon to the spread to make a dill and smoked salmon spread and it turned out amazing. If you don't have your own smoked salmon they DO have a salmon spread you can buy and it looked super yummy as well. They also have day olds in the freezer, I did grab a bag of those to take up to the cabin and stick in the freezer up there so I'm stoked for that!! Last but not least the customer service was fantastic, and super friendly.

Service is great, local, a labor of love, can't wait to make my next bagel run and maybe try a breakfast sandwich this time! Bagel bagel bagel!

We found them at APU on April 20th for a craft fair. They steam their own bagels and have a variety of flavors including plain, everything, onion, sesame, GF, and a sweet rotating option usually blueberry. I got the Barefoot breakfast bagel, overall it was pretty good. Very very messy since the cream cheese was warm and melted everywhere. The bagel was chewy and I was able to get an everything instead of the onion bagel it came with. You can pretty much choose which bagel you want with what sandwich. I picked off the onion even though there wasn't that much, and the tomato slice I got still had the sticker on it, which was bad quality control on their part . The banana pepper added a sweet yet tangy taste, not much cheddar on it, more peppers and banana peppers. It was very good, but again messy. We also got tots which honestly seemed like they were not frozen they were soft yet crunchy. A little spendy at almost $15 each give or take a few bucks. They are not huge bagels but stuffed with a lot of fillings.

I didnt take a picture because it was so cold out and my hands were frozen, but it was a beautiful, elongated bakery treat. It's like a croissant baked in a waffle form, but a bit denser than a regular croissant. What really made it special was the Ube cream -- a light, buttery frosting that wasn't too sweet. Easily a 10/10 for me. I also ordered the Ube Cruffin, which had that same croissant-like texture in a muffin shape. The inside had a light cream filling, and the top was covered with the same Ube cream. It was good, but not quite as amazing as the Croffle -- 7/10. The Ham Banh Mi was tasty and filling (6/10), and the Boba Milk Tea was decent too (6/10). Oh and I got to taste their smoked salmon chowder that my friend ordered. Very good flavor, body, and richness (8/10). Everything I had was good but nothing that was as memorable as the Ube Croffle, but it wasn't cheap -- I spent a total $32 for a sandwich, drink and 2 pastries. Then again, prices in Alaska tend to be higher in general. Overall, even though I've only been once, I'd definitely come back for that Ube Croffle -- it was the real highlight!

Unfortunate that this is the day I decided it was about time I left a review for House Of Bread…read more House of Bread is a lovely space, airy light dining room, and lots of baked goods, and artisanal-looking jarred goods. It feels very open. They have a menu on the wall, and a chalkboard with the types of bread available that day. Husband orders cheesy broccoli soup, and she tells him "it's not really cheesy broccoli soup, it's got lots of veggies in it too" ok, he says, but still orders a bowl. I choose Tuna Salad, and I select 14 grain as my bread choice - "sorry, we're out of that", so I then choose 9 grain - "sorry, we're out of that", and so I ask for marbled rye - "sorry, we're out of that too" I'm really quite surprised, as it's 12.30 like prime lunch time, and they're out of 3 breads already? Maybe cross them off your chalkboard, so you don't have to keep disappointing people. So i choose focaccia with my fingers crossed, and all was well. The order was complete at 12.36. We sit. We wait. Twiddling our fingers. By 20 minutes I'm becoming impatient, because I'm hangry, and the dining room is not that full - maybe 5 tables. As there are 4 staff working behind the counter (could be more round the back in the bakery) I think service could be faster, to dish up a bowl of premade soup, and assemble a cold tuna salad sandwich. Anyway i get my eye on the young man making sandwiches. He's not wearing gloves, is running his fingers through his hair, and touching his face. I see a sandwich that was on the top of the shelf, and it either fell, or he threw it, onto presumably a bench below, and then reach up angrily for a new bag of bread, I don't know - maybe he made it wrong, and was starting over. By 1.02, (26 minutes later) husband could take it no more and went to get a refund. This is not the review I expected to be leaving today, as I've never had service like this here before. I've never gone here before and had to choose my bread 4 times, due to them running out. I've never had to wait so long for lunch using pre-made ingredients. I don't know what was going on, but it's nothing like all the other times we've been here, and I hope it's a one off. If I go back and see the same staff, I'll just walk straight out again and avoid another experience like this one.

My friend wanted to stop by on her way from work & I remembered how impressed I was back in the Fall. I don't know what happened between then and now but I won't be going back. We stopped in just after 5pm, Thursday April 2nd. I saw a few things I was interested in buying for the family, but I had the feeling someone was staring at us. I looked up and saw the younger girl with multi-colored hair glaring at us while the older girl with colored hair was stacking chairs on tables. Google said they closed at 6pm, so I'm assuming she was mad we were interrupting their pre-close. After seeing the flattest "brownies", flatter than a cookie, the soggy zucchini bread with no date on the wrapper, the glare from the young girl behind the register and not one single "Hi" from the 3 employees working, ( the 3rd one was eating a sandwich behind the counter), I decided not to buy a single thing & not to ever come back. My friend bought 4 items & the glaring girl only spoke when she said the total, not even a "Would you like a bag?", "Thank You", "Enjoy your bread" or "Have a good night." Too bad. My friend & I were looking forward to having a coffee & snack & catching up after work.
