In JUNE the sales guy upsold my 83 year old mother a $10,000 air conditioning system for a 2 bedroom ranch home. Contacted BD at 7:30 AM to have a plumber come out to give an estimate on a leaking pipe. Scheduler let us know they could get someone out to the house between 9 AM - 11 AM. So far so good. Received a call at 10:30 AM, letting us know the plumber was 30 minutes out, just wrapping-up an earlier call. Not a problem! Two hours later, nothing. Reached out to BD for a sit-rep, and was told that the plumber would be out between 12N and 2 PM. Fast forward to 2 PM, and again, no contact. If they can't even get their schedules down, I have zero confidence that they will be able to handle my plumbing needs. read more

in going through emails found a receipt from Black Diamond Plumbing and never did leave a review. Back on 3/20/2020 we called them because the Sump Pump would run but would not stop. They came out and replaced the Pump as well as the Check Valve but did not really need to do much piping since it was a standard replacement. Now I own a few properties and have done those my self, but my Step Mom did not want me to bother with. Now i am not questioning so much the price which was $690.00 before we ask if there was a senior discount and they took off $34.50 and the final cost was $655.50. What we never approved was the removal off the old pump, which was working but would not shut off. When we called and I still remember his name, Ozie, he claimed he got rid of it already when it was not even 30 mins after we left we had called. After speaking with a couple of other plumbers there are various reasons why a "working sum pump" could not shut off such as a float switch is stuck in the "on" position due to being jammed by debris, its cord, or the side of the pit. Other common causes include a malfunctioning check valve causing water to flow back in, a clogged discharge pipe. We feel that they knew it was working and the fix would be less costly and being a Friday and the weekend coming up my Step mom ( 90 at the time and now deceased) wanted someone to fix it right away and other places were booked so we went with this company. Advise people to shop around as there are others who could put a quality product in for a better price, Most of all, unless you authorize it, make sure they do not tale your old equipment because in this case the Technician knew it was still a good pump and probably a easy fix. read more

We had BD out to do a few electrical repairs for us in a new house. Brennan was our technician who came out to give us an estimate. We spoke with him in detail about adding a plug in our laundry room for a new electric dryer. He told us he may need to cut some dry wall but that the cuts and plug would be hidden behind the dryer. I did not stand in the room with him while he worked but apparently I should have because when he was done the plug was about a foot above the dryer and there is a large hole around the faceplate of the new plug that now needs to be fixed by someone else. When we asked about the placement of the plug, he told us he could lower it for us but then we would have a hole where the plug currently is AND he wanted to charge us for the hour of overtime it would be to put the plug where we originally agreed upon. While here he also swapped out dimmer switches for standard switches in our basement. He installed white switches and left the almond face plates around them so they do not match. It looks like we hired a rookie to do our electrical work. I would not recommend this company to do your electrical work. We have had their plumbers and HVAC out without issues but this was a horrible experience. ::UPDATE:: After leaving my original review, BD reached out and gave us two options to mediate the issue. Move the plug where we originally wanted it and fix the hole ourselves or they would hire someone to fix the hole and leave the plug where it was installed. We chose to have it moved to where we had originally asked it to be installed which we appreciate. We just now have to hire a contractor to fix the hole in our drywall. I do appreciate that they were willing to come back out and move the outlet. We just wish it would have been placed in the correct spot the first time so we did not have to fix our drywall. I will be a helicopter client from now on and keep an eye on what is being done. read more

I went to my basement to put some clothes in the washing machine and found water on the floor with a spray of water coming from a pipe. I called Black Diamond and they understood the emergency and shortly their plumber arrived. Michael H was polite, efficient, and a born educator. He replaced the spouting pipe with a copper one (I was delighted with that) and answered questions I had about the temperature of the new water heater I had had installed in September (not by Black Diamond). He reset the temperature on the water heater (it was scalding hot the moment I turned on the tap). I told him about a different issue I was having and he explained the problem, but said he could not correct it at this time since he had another call. I told him I would call the Diamond again to have that handled. Michael was a wonderful representative for Black Diamond and I would hope to have him respond when I call next week. People had told me for years that Black Diamond was VERY expensive so I had avoided calling them. I want to go on record saying that the company is more reasonable than several of the other companies with which I have done business in the past Black Diamond is not only more reasonable but they finish the job correctly (unlike one company whose representative reversed the hot and cold taps in the shower). I was quoted $39 twice on the phone to clean out my main drain. The technician arrived at my home and said I had been quoted incorrectly and it was a $180. He also claimed that $180 was a discount. I had the technician call his manager, and his manager put pressure on the technician to charge the higher rate but then ultimately told the technician it was his call. The technician then said he might lose his job if he goes any lower than $180. I told him the company would not get a good review so he said he was uncomfortable doing the job and left. Unfortunate that this company misrepresents their pricing! Very disappointing! Too bad they are getting a bad review anyway! read more

Black Diamond recently came out to do a competitive bid on installing a cleanout line, then doing a hydro jet and descale of the main sewer line in question. On top of being a few hundred dollars cheaper than the original bidder, they found that the original bidder had broken the flange on the toilet when they put it back on and overtightened it. Throughout the process everyone I dealt with was professional, easy to work with, and answered all of my questions. All of that would have been enough for a 5 star review; however, when they got here on the day of the job and went to locate the exact dig space for the line, they found I ALREADY HAD A CLEANOUT LINE (previously most of the estimates had been in ranges based on the original bidder's insistence that this job had to be done, but as it turns out it didn't). That saved me $4,500 on the job, which is pretty awesome! I'm using them for all of our plumbing needs moving forward. read more

Our AC went out at one of our rental properties so we called Black Diamond for repair. We were contacted by them an hour later and they said the compressor was shot (old unit) and we needed a full replacement ($8400 for a 1000 sq ft home). We called another HVAC company for a second opinion and it was a blown fuse. ($40). Buyer beware. I'm sure Black Diamond wanted the $8400 sale. I called the following day to discuss and the repairman that was sent out was now on vacation so they couldn't explain how the blown fuse was missed. I have to remove the tank cover and manually operate the flush mechanism to get a complete flush. The technician assured me that all was in order. It was not. I was very disappointed with this organization. I scheduled a time, and they gave me a window that worked. I requested to speak to one of the plumbers to verify what the cost would be to remove and replace a kitchen faucet, I was concerned, and the lady on the phone said she would relay my concerns and have someone call me. Never received a call to discuss pricing. Took the afternoon off for the service call. Got a call that the plumber was in his way. When the plumber arrived, my first question was, " how much is this going to cost ", he stated very quickly $300. I said that's ridiculous , forget it. I explained that I had requested some type of pricing prior to his arrival, but got nothing. Wasted half day off work, wasted plumbers time, all because of a 3 minute phone to provide a price to remove and replace a kitchen sink faucet. I called another plumber, cost to remove and replace $150, very fair , was quoted that over the phone I felt like Black Diamond put me in a position that I would have to have the work done. Picture this; Sunday afternoon, in the winter, and half the power in out house went out. We checked the fuse box and everything looked correct (no tripped fuses or whatever they are called or do). Hubby called Black Diamond at 330. At 335, he received a return call. At 400, Andy showed up. We live in an old house (50+ years old). Andy checked all the outlets on the dark side of the house. They were putting power out but none were getting power (*shrug*). He started to investigate and figured out exactly where the problem was. He had to saw a hole in the ceiling of the home office but he found the culprit of the outage and fixed it. We were impressed by the price (it was an emergency on a Sunday evening) and by Andy. Let me start with the great. I worked with two technicians in the span of a couple days, HVAC and plumbing, and both gentlemen were friendly and knowledgeable. Scheduling the appointments was frictionless and everyone I have spoken with through this process has been friendly and polite. I have no experience with their maintenance plans but I imagine they are a decent value. I was considering a maintenance plan but fortunately learned a hard lesson early and will not work with this company again. I'll share my experience and you can decide if this is organization is a good fit for you and your needs. My wife and I are first-time home buyers and just closed on a Foreclosure. There were several issues to address including an inoperable furnace, water heater, and several blocked drains. I was in a hurry to get these issues resolved and my real estate agent recommended Black Diamond. I knew they would be a little more expensive but I was willing to pay a "little" more for less hassle. The HVAC guy arrived on time and was able to resolve my issue by connecting the common wire to the furnace. I was charged $165 for the service which was a lot for the work done but I understand there is a cost just to show up. The HVAC tech also took the time to explain some of the basic furnace maintenance and some of the other services they offer. The HVAC tech scheduled an appointment with one of their plumbers for a few days later. The plumber arrived on-time, evaluated my needs, and quoted me $960 to unclog a utility drain in the cellar, replace the gas regulator on the water heater, unclog a toilet, and unclog a sink. Being new to home maintenance I assumed these prices were justified and that the tech would be doing a significant amount of work to diagnose and resolve these issues. The tech unclogged the maintenance sink in about 10-15 min with a large electric snake (the tool cost him about $75, I asked). He put that tool away and installed the gas regulator in about 15 to 20 min (the regulator costs $100-$150). He then went to the truck and got a 6ft snake for the toilet and unclogged it in 10 min. He took that back down to his truck and retrieved the large snake again (he could have used the same tool for all three jobs) to unclog the sink in you guessed it, about 10 min. We then chatted for a while and even went down to take a look at the coach house we are planning to renovate because he had some time to kill. We finished up and he sat in our driveway for about 20-30 minutes until my wife and I walked out to our car and he realized he'd have to leave. In total he was there for about 2 hours and did "maybe" an hours worth of actual work. That is between $500 and $1000 dollars an hour depending on how you look at it. I am new to home ownership but all the veterans I've spoken with agree that these prices are ridiculous. I spoke with the plumbing manager and he did concede that I was due a 10% discount for the added services which was a whopping $60. he explained that they use fixed pricing of al la carte services. This is "supposed" to protect the consumer from technicians that run up the clock but I'll let you judge whether that intention is being served. I understand that there is overhead involved for a technician to show up at my door, but to continue to charge me that overhead for every trivial job is exploitative. I'm posting this to help save other's from learning this lesson the hard way. I'll also be contacting my real estate agent to make sure she is aware of what she's recommending. read more

I had a technician come out to replace a few parts. While he was at my home he said he didn't like the way my furnace was vented outside the house. He took off a PVC elbow joint and replaced it with three PVC pieces. This took him 15 minutes total. Besides the use of a hacksaw, a second grader could have done it. He attempted to charge me $163. The good ones get booked quickly, so no desire for emergency work, except Black Diamond. Spoke with Cora and she made sure a licensed plumber would stop by and handle my issue. Fortunately, I picked up the flange for the shower from Just Faucets. 'Ziam' stopped by as promised. Courtesy, professionalism, and listened well to my concerns. Took care of the issue and informed me the other shower would need the same flange to fix it as well. Exchanged my valve under my toilet, because during this wait...It gave out. All in all, recommend Black Diamond for your plumbing needs whether you need them for an emergency or scheduled maintenance. Cheers! read more

Black Diamond came to my home a few weeks ago to check out an issue with my central air conditioning. The system was freezing up and I speculated it could be due to a bad acoil. The tech checked it out and the first thing he did was try to sell me a new air conditioning system. I told him that was out of my price range then he suggested their financing options. He said it might be possible to clean the acoil so I okayed that. After a few minutes, he said the acoil was beyond cleaning and would have to be replaced for a cost of $1,800. We did not have the work done and he went on his way. I called another company for a second opinion. The second company tech said my system had been overcharged. Black Diamond had actually charged my system a few years prior telling me that was why it was freezing up on me. The tech from the second company bled the system for a cost of $250 and it's been running like gangbusters for the past three weeks. I emailed Black Diamond with this information and have yet to get any response although I did get read receipts that someone read my email. I will not be doing business with Black Diamond again. UPDATE: I find it very interesting that four hours after posting the above review I was contacted by Black Diamond (by email). read more
