Hugh disappointment with Black Dog!! The owner over booked and it wasn't till we were on the boat 5 min to leave that I was told by the caption that it wasn't his deal and was the owner that I had to deal with that was nowhere to be found. I get mistakes happen but to not find out till you're on the boat ready to go is very unprofessional! I get things happen, but to my small kids who didn't understand and was highly looking forward to fishing that day it broke their hearts. I care less if this is how someone wants to run their business and with many other options out there, I won't be back, but I take it personal when you hurt kids. As a word to other future customers, please consider other options before booking with Black Dog. Not for my sake but for my kids and other kids and adults that deserve a better experience then what we had!! read more

Had a reservation today for our visiting three small grand kids. They were turned away at the pier as they were over booked.

As another reviewer stated, if the captain who owns the company is not running the boat you literally just go through the motions and they dont seem to care much if you catch fish or not. I can't recall what the younger kids name is that is captaining the boat but he seems to be the breakdown. Just phoning it in seems to be the best way to describe it. We are going to give them another chance but after 5 times out with them, the last 2 have been a major bust and the owner of the company is nowhere to be found. Disappointing. read more

They were very very friendly and knowledgeable and one thing that stuck out to me was that they we're trying their best to save each fish that wasn't sizable to keep! The weather wasn't the best when we went out and I may have had to chum the water myself from the waves but still a great time. Great boat to fish in, about 45 x 15, very new, and immaculately clean. The Captain and mate are knowledgable, and it is a concierge service experience. They are very good with kids to. They run two four hour charters per day and you should plan to reserve ahead at least a week. My wife and I just returned from a great afternoon of fishing with Black Dog. I was surprised by my wife with the trip for my birthday! It was the greatest afternoon! Captain Davenport and Mate Andrew are a professional team to say the least. We left the dock promptly at our scheduled time and after a short run out Jupiter Inlet we were catching fish! As soon as your sinker hit bottom....boom...start reeling up your catch! No joke...that fast! When the action let off, the captain was off to the next spot....no time wasted. Don't even think about touching bait because as soon as you reeled in they were right there with fresh bait to get you right back into the action. When we returned to the dock, Andrew cleaned, filleted and bagged our fish (oh and they are YOUR fish because they put individual markings on each fish). Really first class! We will definitely be back fishing with the crew of Black Dog on our next trip to Jupiter. read more

My sister flew down from Montana and we decided to go deep sea fishing for the first time. After doing some research I found Black Dog and after reading the reviews we decided to go with this company. I am so glad we did, we had the best time! The captain and crew were awesome!! We had no experience fishing and they were so helpful and patient. With their expertise they had us catching fish within minutes. We went on a half day charter and we were catching fish the entire time. The crew worked hard to make sure everyone was catching fish and having a great time!! Black Dog Rocks! My wife and I took a half day charter with them, our first ever, and had a perfect time. Bill and his mate were friendly, helpful and a whole lot of fun and they worked hard to make sure we caught plenty of fish. The boat is solid, fantastically well-maintained and sized perfectly for 10 anglers and two crew. Bill clearly knows the waters there (he's been doing this for 15 years) and moved us a number of times to make sure that we were placed perfectly for the fish. We caught a bunch of fish--yellowtail snapper, lane snapper, mangrove snapper and rainbow runner--and had a blast doing it. When we got to shore, they cleaned and filleted our catch and gave us directions to the nearby Thirsty Turtle where they expertly prepared our catch (blackened and fried with great sides) for $8 each. Totally exceeded our expectations--you cannot go wrong with Black Dog. read more

Went here on our vacation in Florida and the fishing was excellent. The captain and the mate really know what they are doing and offer very professional service and are down to earth people. The boat is very clean and they provide everything from fishing gear to water, and cooler services. They don't overcrowd the boat and I always had plenty of room to fish. My family and I have been on numerous fishing excursions over the years around this area and we have never caught as many fish nor been on such a professionally run charter as with Black Dog. This morning my 11-year-old son and I went on a half day tour and had a perfect time. The boat is a good size and scrupulously clean. I was very impressed with the neatness of the boat actually as most other charter boats we have been on are less than clean. Indeed, some charter boats have had more fish parts on the deck than we have caught as a collective group! They actually cleaned the boat as we were moving from one area to another, I've never seen any other charter do this. Captain Bill and his mate were helpful and kind to all of the guests and I appreciated their patience and gentleness with my son. Several other charter captains we have experienced have been rather gruff and "salty" with their language and demeanor and that was absolutely not the case for Captain Bill or his mate. They were both well equipped to answer the numerous questions my son had about the fish he caught and they never got impatient with him. We stopped several times in different areas and caught plenty of keeper fish. The gear was sturdy and worked well and as there were only 10 people on board - including the Captain and mate, we caught lots of fish. We even got to see a few sharks which was exciting. The ship was well stocked with cold water and had ample shade to sit under. We enjoyed our adventure so much that we are going again tomorrow. One cannot go wrong choosing this charter company for a lovely day. read more

My 9 year old son and I had a great morning fishing with Cap'n Bill and his mate. Caught various types of snapper (yellow tail, mangrove...) about 2 dozen keepers in 3 hours. The boat is nice sized for the number of guests (maximum of 10) and spotless. The mate kept our lines baited, Bill happily fielded questions from my son about the various equipment on the boat and about every fish. They marked the fish to know which belonged to who and cleaned and fileted them when we returned to the dock. The mate works for tips, so make sure to take care of him! read more

Worst $425 we ever spent. We took our 9 year old, who loves fishing, out for his first sea adventure. 4 hours, not one fish. The next day, we called Dwight, the owner, told him how disappointed we were, and asked if he might fit us in later in the week. We only wanted 1 fish for our 9 year old, not the "fridge full of the best fish" promised on their web site. When Dwight finally returned our call, he not only refused our reasonable accommodation, but he was rude and obstreperous. This was definitely not the "charter" experience we paid for (ladies, if nature calls, here is a 5 gallon pail . . . ). Look elsewhere, but stay away from this con-man. read more
