The first time we thought it was a one-off. Second time, we realize it is just him having fun and avoiding having to fillet a few extra fish. On our second trip, 5 hours in the boat, 9 total fish caught, 4 were fed to the sharks. So the three of us split 5 fish's worth of fillets, half as many as we caught, just to entertain the captain. Maybe 1 fish, but 4 without permission - both trips - just keep an eye out.

Decided to go for an impromptu Valentine's Day date and they happily took us. The boat leaves from the docks behind utiki in Jupiter so afterwards you can grad lunch or dinner at one of the great restaurants on the riverwalk. Expect a long 30/40 min ride out and back and you can only fish from one side of the boat (drift fishing) so can be kinda on top of other people at times. Twelve acre, six foot deep Pelican Lake was once a natural marsh. In the early 1950s, Juno Beach…read moredevelopers Bessemer Properties built a small dam into the marsh and turned it into a lake. It was named Pelican Pond by the local Garden Club before becoming Pelican Lake. The developers used the lake as an attraction to draw residents before the town it was incorporated in 1953. Although beautiful to look at the lake also serves an important function. It protects the surrounding buildings from flooding during heavy rain by providing a place for the rain to drain away. Around Pelican Lake is a pleasant one mile loop, perfect for a walk, jog, or bike ride. The lake has a fountain in it. Along the path you will find benches and trees. I even found a Rainbow Eucalyptus tree which you don't usually find out of botanical gardens. There is a gazebo where you can watch the turtles bob their heads out of the water. I think people must feed them because they came swimming right over when they saw me. I also saw fish and birds like the common moorhen, ibis, and ducks. There used to be more wildlife but the chemicals added to the lake through the years to prevent algae blooms eventually reduced the animal and plant populations. Plans are being made to rehabilitate the ecosystem by removing invasive species and adding native plants and fish. They also want to add a shallow nesting area to attract birds. One small part of the walkway around the lake takes you to the sidewalk along Ocean Dr. but it goes back down to the lake. When you finish your walk you can cross the street to Kagan Park where there is some outdoor exercise equipment along with a basketball court and a playground. This is a very nice to exercise and take in the fresh air.

The South side of this Walk can serve as a path to get to Juno Beach Access JB-7 from the parking lot at Kagan Park; I definitely passed families carrying beach equipment. This Walk is interesting in part because the path is lined with engraved stones memorializing loved ones or saying something. Many are so worn that you can no longer read them. A couple that I did read were heartbreaking. On the West side of the Lake is a pavilion with a boardwalk going out to it over the Lake. The Lake has fountains. We could see many, many turtles and ducks from this pavilion. Parents beware: the built in benches have a ledge at the top of the seats which are the perfect height for a child to hoist themselves up onto and stand dangerously high up to the top of the barrier. The Western side of the Lake Trail gets larger and has a green area with trees, a bench and a little gazebo. I didn't go too much farther when I saw the road head up to the regular road.

It's also a park currently in progress. There's a roundabout for dropping off your canoe/kayak/paddle board, and several launching spots. This side has a great view of the lighthouse and also provides access under the bridge. There is a one dock and another used-to-be-dock platform further down, plus a fish cutting station. The bay part looked pretty sad as it was pretty shallow, but that could have been time of day/year. This park is narrow and runs alongside A1A so it is loud from the road. Some old, historic trees have been preserved, but they are up against the roadway without any fencing: very dangerous. Behind the bay part are two historic buildings. One is a bright yellow beauty, the old train station, which apparently may be turned into a museum one day. The other is a historic DuBois house, currently under restoration. Most of the walk is paved. There are several covered picnic tables with benches, grassy areas for kids to run around, and a decent fence alongside the picnic part. I took a short walk along the paved pathways and saw an osprey.

This tiny park is great to know about. It is designed for kayaking or canoeing. It has a giant…read moreparking space for a bus, with a huge rack for kayak/canoe holding, and special dock appendage for kayak/canoes. It is a little difficult to spot, as the sign is tiny, and you basically pull into a parking lot shared by an office building. It is right off Indiantown Road. There is a little shaded picnic table, but it is right in front of the parking spaces. However, it does look out on a tiny preserved area. Just for the sake of exploring every single park, I brought my kids here to check it out. We were the only ones here. It had rained recently and a flock of ibis were eating in the flooded park area between the parking spaces and the dock, which is a pretty short little path. However, that path goes over a tiny swampy area which is shallow enough to note that there were not alligators. We could sit on the elevated pavement to look over the swamp and observe. Incredibly enough, I was able to spot a mass of frog eggs floating in this water. We then collected some of the eggs and brought them home; now we are parenting baby tree frogs to release one day. We tried to look for fish from the small dock but did not have any luck. From the dock you can see other docks along the canal.

This is a 2.71 acre park that opened in 2014 in the Jones Creek Preserve. The Jones Creek flows…read moreinto the Loxahatchee River and to a large shallow basin along its southern property line. One third of the preserve is mangrove wetlands which are very important to the health of the Loxahatchee River. Mangroves protect shorelines from storm and hurricane damage, prevent erosion, maintain water quality and clarity by filtering pollutants and trapping sediments, and they provide nesting and breeding habitat for fish and shellfish, migratory birds, and sea turtles. The land for the Jones Creek Preserve was purchased along with several other parcels in 2005 as part of the seventeen million dollar Jupiter Open Space Program. Non native plants were removed and replaced with native species and fences were added. Other park amenities include benches, a water fountain, and picnic table. A public kayak launch was added that allows paddlers to go through the mangroves and behind neighborhoods as they explore the Loxahatchee River. If you live locally and have your own kayak this is a handy place to launch it.
