Surprisingly good! But huge portion sizes. This location looked and was busy but we got seated right away. The menu is typical American country fare with a mix of some Mexican and Puebloan flavors. We first ordered the fried pickles as a starter. We were told that they are vertical strips rather than circular and honestly imagined that they would be small vertical strips. As you can see from the picture, they were gigantic. We got the jalapeno based dip and it was delicious!! I think the dip was 70% of the reason we liked our pickles. For the entrees, my friend and I both got the potato bowls. She got the regular chicken one and I got the Irish pie. Big portions for sure but both were delicious. The mashed potatoes on the top were well done and really added to the dish. My pie had a lot of pulled pork which was very tasty and you had to dig in a bit to get to the veggies. This is the first time my wife and I visited this restaurant. The location was convenient, parking was adequate, the outside of the restaurant and landscaping looked nice, the inside was decorated nicely as well, we were greeted when we entered the restaurant, seated quickly in a comfortable, quiet booth toward the back of the dining room near a window, the dining room was clean and neat, our server (Rebecca) was excellent, friendly, and patient with us as we decided what to order, the colorful, glossy menus had enough appetizer, entre, & beverage choices, the rolls ere delicious, our meals were very tasty (ribs, mashed potatoes, Caesar salad, meatloaf & roast beef), the restrooms were clean, neat, and didn't smell bad, there was no music playing in the dining room, and the food was quite expensive. read more

I was not impressed with this place. The food was mediocre but the service was great! I really wanted to try the meat loaf and country fried steak but there was no combination plate for it. I asked if they could make a substitution but that was not allowed. I mean I was even willing to pay an up charge if it came down to it. But it never happened. So I settled for the chicken tenders and and country fried steak. To make matters worse, it took a really long time for this to come out. The amount of time I waited and the way the food tasted was just not worth it. There was nothing special about it. I felt like the food tasted like any other chicken tenders and country fried steak. A pleasant surprise just off the 25 freeway. The food was excellent and the service was great. They have a separate menu for seniors Our server Sarah was wonderful. We did not have any wait and the restaurant was very clean and pleasant. I tried the tilapia which was perfect. Put the mango sauce on the side because it was slightly spicy. It came with rice which was the best rice I have tasted plus two veggies. They let me order soup for one of my veggies and the tortilla soup of the day was delicious. As I've said before, we don't eat out much - but while traveling , a girl has to eat... try to stop places we haven't eaten before or in a long long time. So - we stopped on the way home from Colorado Springs at a Black Eyed Pea off Hwy 50 in Pueblo, CO. I ordered a Rueben with extra sauerkraut, with a side of black eyed peas, of course. The wonderful complimentary bread was fresh out then oven, so yum yum there!! The sandwich came out and the sauerkraut looked like white onions, it was so pale. I figured out it was boiled with no seasonings at all. Not good!! Worse, they didn't drain it of water before adding it to my top toasted Marble bread. Also not good! My bread was soggie and I couldn't eat the sandwich .... So let me say, I LOVE to cook but I have a weird thing with food ...I don't like carbs covered with other carbs....with the exception of sandwiches. So when my bread was wet and I couldn't eat it, I actually started to get an upset stomach..all my problem I am fully aware but wet---wait not wet, but totally soggy bread, is just gross!! My brain wouldn't forget. Needless to say, I asked for a dry toasted piece of marble bread to replace the wet one, which was brought out immediately...but my brain knew and the damage was done. I could not enjoy the remainder of the sandwich. Another issue was that the corned beef was sliced about a 1/4 inch thick, and then Doubled on each sandwich, not easy to bite into. Has anyone ever eaten 1/4 thick corned beef before - now multiply it by 2!!! That's crazy. I will not order this again for fear that even with metrication, this will be a hot mess. ...Ive made many a Rueben sandwich. And Ive NEVER boiled my cabbage, but lightly sautéed it with apple vinegar, bacon and some light seasoning. Never have I served it bland- and I'm not a restaurant. It was pretty disappointing. The two sides, sweet potato fries and black eyed peas, were really good....peas were seasoned with a little ham and had great flavor. Fries were a thin cut and were very crisply fried! Good! Beware of wet sandwiches and ask how they are prepared so you won't be surprised or disappointed. Let me just start with terrible. First our waitress got our drink order and never brought drinks until asked again about them. Asked what well liquors the establishment had and our waitress had NO Knowledge whatsoever about that No worries I wasn't bothered until food for other tables started coming out before ours considering we were the first table sat and ordered. Then took another 9 minutes to receive our bar drinks after ordering. Ordered a double in my drink and tasted the exact same as my first single drink. So they just upcharged me but made it incorrectly I'm guessing. It would be different if they were busy but we were the first table and they were slow. Our food came out and the tadertots loaded were SO GOOD. Anticipating our food will be too, we got it and I couldn't get half way through it was so greasy and the fish was so dry. I'd rather sit at home and cook for that inconvenience. We won't be back. read more

Besides the food being terrible (wilted salad, undercooked beef, over cooked dry chicken, soggy bread all over priced) the service was hands down THE WORST service I've ever had. I have a lot of patience for people but she went out of her way to be rude, slow and stupid. Not apologetic about the mold on our lettuce acted like it was our fault that we didn't want to eat something that would have made us sick. She never cleared our table and I had to ask for the check multiple times while she sat there and gossiped with the bar tender. Never in my life have i complained to management but this experience was so far and above awful in every way we had to say something. My family usually loves Black-eyed Pea, which is why this isn't a one star review. We came in last night, and we were sat almost immediately. We ordered appetizers and drinks. The server had no idea what the bar could make, so I went with two of the drink menu items. My husbands soup was forgotten and our drinks tasted terrible. Our food arrived (and then the soup after a reminder). Then our server totally disappeared. A man was sat next to us, he waited and waited to be greeted. After 15 minutes, he walked out. No manager in sight. At this time, my daughter starts complaining her stomach hurts. We sign our check and leave. When we got home, my daughter was visibly green and spent 30 minutes in the bathroom. Nice experience. The food was good. I had the mushroom swish chicken. In my taste the mushrooms were a bit too sweet. The coleslaw I had however might possibly be the best I've ever eaten. My Father enjoyed his Blackened tolopia and shrimp. The wait staff was excellent. They were attentive and apologetic. They were apologizing because of the 25 minuets we sat waiting for our food. I keep wanting to love this place, but I simply can't. We order DoorDash often, and our last order here has simply turned me off for good. The food is good, but the service is just horrible. We ordered in DoorDash and didn't realize they closed at 8pm, and they weren't cutting off orders at all. Our food came, two salads. A strawberry lemonade drink was completely missed. We received a cornbread muffin, when we had ordered a few. And it came in crumbles, like it was thrown in the bag. Seeing how thrown together everything else was, I hoped the chicken in my salad is cooked. Either cut off orders at a certain time, or learn to prepare your food properly, even half an hour before closing. read more

The table was dirty, our waitress was very slow and clearly did not want to be there. They brought out terrible looking food after waiting 45 minutes, watered down Caesar salad, very messy, watery chicken wrap that fell apart after I tried to pick it up. I got a small pile of broken chips instead of the fries that I ordered and when I told the waitress she replied "well the kitchen is trying to close" I asked for the ticket right then. We got there at 6:30 and waited so long that the kitchen was closing.. oh and the manager parks his car in the very first open spot by the door where a customer should be parking. read more

We've dined here for years and the food and service are consistently high quality. Love the fried mushrooms. Occasional minor service issues like no butter with bread. No cranberries with turkey but everything always handled well and quickly corrected. I would encourage all to have a nice home style meal here without worry. I do have a suggestion for management... please train hosts not to hold both interior and exterior doors wide open together when the temp is 25 degrees.
