Great food! We were looking for a spot for dinner before a concert at Barclay's and this hit the spot. Great Mediterranean, enjoyed the dip platter and chicken. Sat at the bar which obviously got a little tight with two giant plates but we were well taken care of and had a great time. Sitting at the bar is quick and relaxed but a table would feel more intimate for sure so perfect for a fun preshow bite or date night.

I was honestly surprised to see so many negative reviews for this cute Mediterranean spot. One of our friends lives in the neighborhood and comes here often, so she recommended we check it out. It did not disappoint! We came by for an early dinner around 5 with a few friends. It wasn't busy at all, and we were seated right away. My husband and I split the salmon kebabs and the Black Iris pizza. The kebabs were perfectly cooked, well-seasoned, and they gave us a really generous portion of salmon. The pizza was also solid, and our vegetarian friends enjoyed it too. The portions were fairly sizable and my husband and I had to bring some leftovers home. The service was pretty relaxed. They don't check in a ton, but the staff was friendly and helped us quickly whenever we needed something. Overall, we had a great time and would definitely come back the next time we're in the neighborhood.

A neighborhood classic that we STAY coming back to. Black Iris is our constant. We order in from here all the time, and every once in a while, come here for dinner with family or friends. It's consistently good and always perfect. Above all, our server Avery was awesome. She was kind and funny and was truly one of the best servers I've had in Brooklyn in a while. I think we are friends now :) I usually get the falafel wrap (which is rly good), but I tried something new last night, I got the shrimp kebabs. It came with like so much shrimp which was a pleasant surprise. We shared the mezze platter for the table and that was my fav part. The labne is ridiculously good. The dirty martini was delightfully dirty and all of us at the table left feeling full. Black Iris 4evr

The Black Iris offered a delicious lunch with friendly service. I had the hummus and lamb chunks which include well seasoned lamb. The Iris has a feel of a neighborhood restaurant and there is inside and outside seating. I randomly stopped by and was very happy I dined there.

Have come for both their dinner and brunch menus. The food is decent for dinner but nothing special, their portions are good and they're priced well overall in a cute neighborhood. When the suns out and the weather is nice, I recommend their sidewalk/streetside seats. Brunch time service was more hectic so the service wasn't as attentive but dinner was fine. Brunch was better food wise , the Turkish eggs were good, just needed some salt and the shakshouka was flavorful, although it was hard to find the feta in the mix. Overall, it's a good neighborhood spot when you're craving some Mediterranean food or miss Ada is full haha

My family and I would go to Black Iris when they were at their old location in Brooklyn. I enjoyed the new location as well! The food was delicious and adequate portions. For appetizers my group ordered a mixed platter. The app came with beets, pita, chick peas etc. It was a great app for 4-5 people to share. We each ordered different dishes: Chicken Souvlaki, Chicken Ouzi, Lamb Sausage (merguez)and Lambajin Pitzaa, and Shish Kebab. The favorite dishes were the Chciken Ouzi and the Lambajin Pitzaa. Both dishes were flavorful and we would order again. The lamb in the Shish Kebab plate was a bit dry. The ambience is nice and the restaurant does get loud if crowded. The service was adequate. I will be back to dine at the Black Iris!

Sad to say I did not have a good experience at Black Iris. We arrived a few minutes late of our reservation and the host clearly had an attitude despite the restaurant being nearly empty. We were seated at one of the outside picnic tables and ordered a mezze plate to share. The mezze platter was delicious. I especially loved the seasoned chickpeas and hot fresh flat bread to dip in the hummus. After we received our appetizer, service completely tanked. About an hour later, our waiter informed us that their system had crashed, our order was never received by the kitchen but they are now working on it. He apologized profusely and even offered a dessert on the house. We were busy working on our appetizer so it didn't seem like a big deal. It wasn't until we realized that all the other tables that arrived well after us had received their food and their check that they had completely forgotten us! We had to keep waiving down any waiter that passed by for drink refills. The staff did not seem to be communicating or if they were, it was to argue in front of guests! I ordered the chicken souvlaka which was big enough to share. The grilled chicken was tender and juicy and I really enjoyed the yogurt sauce on the side. Overall everyone in my party loved their dinner. We never received a dessert but they were quick to bring us our check! I may or may not come back to Black Iris the next time I'm in town.

Delicious food and great seating options (outdoor covered, outdoor picnic tables, and indoors). They have multiple vegan and plant-based options which are delicious. The chickpea croquettes (falafel) for brunch came with a dip or rice, salad, and bread. If you're looking for a weekend brunch option, it's very easy to walk in here. Everything is delicious and the food is prepared pretty quickly.

My husband LOVED the burek, but then they totally changed it and now it's just gone. The food is still delicious, but unpredictable of what we can / will order. The new space is beautiful and open and airy, but sadly the service has dipped. This place used to be almost too fast, we were in and out and we consistently knew we could come here and get out in a very timely manner. But now I literally had to flag down our waitress and I still didn't get her attention, another waitress came over to help us get our check. We also didn't get checked on at all, luckily our food was good and right. The table next to us didn't get greeted for water or anything so they had to flag down the guy delivering food to get a waitress. I thinkkk it may be because the wait staff is servicing here and the location next store but it's really impacted the experience. Totally understand that a lot of places are understaffed, but we've never experienced this before Miriam we love you, but pleaseeeeee stop changing the menu.

It's super cozy inside, and they also give you pillows to sit on. Our server was really friendly and gave us great recommendations. We ordered a few different things to share for our party of two: - Bacon wrapped dates (5/5) so good!!! - Short ribs (5/5) I actually don't usually eat beef but these were so good and not dry. The orzo on the side also balanced it out well. - Kale salad (5/5) This seemed like a simple salad but it was so yummy and dressed well. The pine nuts tasted good with this too! - Vegan fruit sundae (2/5) Sadly this was the only thing that missed the mark. I didn't like the raisins and the almonds didn't really work well with everything but that was just me. The sorbet was also pretty sour. The best thing about this was the white cream on top (it tasted like real cream)

When you…read morewalk in, you are immediately greeted by a giant oven baking fresh pita as well as an open kitchen. There is also an outdoor dining area, as well as a mid-sized dining room and we were seated near the window. Sawa serves Lebanese cuisine with some more modern dishes. Additionally, they have a mostly Lebanese wine list, which gave us an opportunity to try some new wines. We ordered both a red and a white for the table, and I was especially drawn to the red, as the red was served chilled, light-bodied, and very enjoyable. Nearly all of the reds and whites on the menu are from Lebanon, with just one red from Morocco, plus a couple sparkling options from Lebanon as well. We started with several dips for the table: hummus, baba ghannouj, and muhammara. The hummus was incredibly smooth, and the muhammara was especially flavorful with large pieces of walnut throughout. Everyone at the table receives fresh pita, and we ended up ordering a few more to share. We also shared the Brussels sprouts and the snap peas. The Brussels sprouts were rich and flavorful, but the snap peas really stood out. They were unlike anything I have tasted before, intensely mint, served with garlic mint labneh, and very delicious. For mains, we focused on lamb: two orders of the lamb ribs, two orders of the kafta, and two orders of the sfeeha. We probably over-ordered by about one entrée, but otherwise it was the right amount of food for six people. The lamb ribs were phenomenal, fall-off-the-bone tender and packed with flavor. The lamb pies were also very good and came with a delicious dipping sauce. The kafta was good, though not quite as memorable as the other lamb dishes, but still very satisfying. Service was attentive throughout the meal, and despite the number of dishes on the table, the staff handled everything smoothly. The table got a little crowded at times, but it was manageable. I would absolutely recommend Sawa, especially for anyone who enjoys trying something a little different. They do classic Lebanese dishes very well, while also offering some creative dishes that feel unique and memorable. I am already looking forward to going back.
