Stopped by, as to not get drenched by the thunderstorm yeaterday and was deeply satisfied with the service I received. The atmosphere was calm and inviting. I listened to Bossa Nova alll evening -- it being one of my fav genre of music was the cherry on the cake for me. The warmth and helpfulness of the staff towards everyone who came in soaking wet, offering towels and napkins to dry off was absolutely heart warming and uplifting to witness. Super clean. Being inside feels like you have teleported to somewhere Mediterranean. I was personally thrilled by the way they make the food in their fire wood oven. Cannot comment on the food as yet because I only got drinks, but everything looked and smelled heavenly!!! Panca has easily become my go-to place to unwind, on Vanderbilt. Ordered delivery, so I'm giving them a little grace, but I'd absolutely order from Panca BK again. The heirloom tomato and watermelon salad was easily the standout, followed closely by the lomo saltado. The half chicken was a bit dry, and the garlic white rice had great flavor but could've used a little more moisture. Even with delivery working against it, everything traveled well enough that I'd be interested to see how it tastes fresh from the restaurant. read more

What a delicious meal. Started with the small bites: the shrimp and fluke croquetas and the pulpo with potato salad both were a smash hit. Them for entrees my husband as and I shared the hanger steak with the seafood rice. The seafood rice was super flavorful and took about 30 minutes to make. It was served I. A small paella pan and while the rice was seasoned super well, there was no crispy rice. The hanger steak was solid but not as tasty as the rice dish. Overall 8/10 experiences and the heated backyard patio was such a romantic spot to have a meal. Service was friendly and super helpful. Definitely will be coming back in 2026. read more

Dare I say this is the best resto on Vandy now??? The food was incredible. The chicken was moist and flavorful. The steak, 10/10. The tomatoes and peppers were perfect with the melty provoleta. And the flan, absolutely delicious. The decor is beautiful, especially the patio which has a retractable roof during good weather. Great place for a date night, dinner with friends, or a solo moment at the bar. The two top tables seem very small so don't be surprised if all of your food doesn't fit. My one critique, the plates are tiny. When I order multiple things to share, I need a plate slightly bigger. Service was friendly, attentive, and competent. Excited to go back! read more

An amazing South American restaurant in Prospect Heights. We finally tried it over the fall and absolutely loved it. Seafood is what you should order. It's fresh and delicious. We ordered the fluke tartare and ceviche Classico as appetizers. Both delicious! We also ordered the cease salad and shared the Branzino as a main course. All so good. Service was excellent. There's a new restaurant on Vanderbilt and trust me, you need to check it out! The space is intimate and has an open concept kitchen that offers direct view of all the action. I love watching the front and back of the house work together. If that's your vibe too, you'll love having a glimpse of the action. We ordered the heirloom tomato salad, the house french fries, the broccolini and the branzino. Everything was DE-LISH-OUS. But, we have to give the branzino its moment. Omg! You can't convince me it wasn't just caught and grilled to order on the spot. That char, the flavors! The branzino was light, fresh, and the sauce just gave it an extra pop of brightness that it probably didn't needed but that we welcomed all the same. I saw this restaurant opened up nearby and was excited to try it and I'm so glad that I did! I didn't have a reservation, but I was lucky enough that it was relatively empty on a Thursday night. I was seated at the bar and the bartender was very nice and attentive. He even entertained my request to change the glass for my watermelon basil margarita and I must say it was a very well-made drink. I have a gluten allergy and they were very knowledgeable on what I could and couldn't have - even noting that the fryer is shared so it would be cross contamination. I started with the Caesar salad, and it was probably my least favorite of the dishes. While it was very fresh and crisp, for some reason, the dressing was just a bit too watery for me. Now, the star of the show was definitely the steak, which was made on a Woodfire grill. It was cooked perfectly and so tender, and the added chimichurri sauce just brought it over board. I also got a side of Potato purée, which was very tasty. I didn't have any dessert, but the people next to me were celebrating a birthday and the restaurant brought them a complementary dish, which I thought was so nice. I think it was a flan and it looked very good. The restaurant itself is very well decorated and they have a back patio, which they told me will be heated all winter. They also told me it is Latin owned. I'm looking forward to going back! read more

I hate bagging on restaurants and want to give them the benefit of the doubt but yall the meat here is literally turning me back into my vegetarianism. Fishy as all hell fish, uncooked UN-COOKED chicken. all it takes is to just put a thermostat in the meat before serving it which is something I literally even do at home when cooking for myself. Walked in at 5:15 PM on a Saturday during what feels like still a soft opening. Got three seats at the bar. Service was lovely (5 ), place was lovely (chill and stylish), and the food was very good (4 ). The price to size to deliciousness ratio on the apps could be better. They were all good but not amazing, and were all quite small (we got four apps to split between three people, and each one was pretty much three small bites). For ex, the empanada was tiny--three small bites--and the single fluke croquette was also just three tiny bites. (I think they were around $8/ea.) I wish they were either a few bucks cheaper, 50% larger, or even a couple bucks more expensive, but then two to a plate. The octopus was a smidge bigger (maybe three big bites per person) and was well seasoned, but not comparable in size or preparation to the many other places that are doing a nice grilled octopus leg these days. The entrees impressed more (it's usually the opposite for me!). The whole branzino was perfectly deboned, perfectly grilled, perfectly seasoned (and super fresh). The green salad was fresh and well-dressed, though a little over salted (which actually worked nicely eating it with the simply-seasoned branzino--but still, I'm a heavy-salter myself and I was pretty struck by how heavy handed the salt on the salad and a few other things was). And it was a super simple, smallish plate of baby greens with a few orange slices for $14, which I know is probably pretty average these days, but is a bit much, IMO. Either the price needs to come down a bit or the salad needs to get a smidge more interesting (and/or larger). The burger was fabulous. Brioche bun, with a thick and well-seasoned patty that was satisfyingly crispy but still cooked to a perfect medium (though over-salted) and their special sauce was full of flavor. My only note is that I would have liked a little more lettuce. The fries were GREAT. Big-ass steak fries that were super crunchy on the outside and super tender and fluffy on the inside. Haven't had this style in ages and they totally nailed it. The poached fruit dessert was okay. Good execution but that didn't make up for mediocre fruit (strawberries, pears, and pineapple). Next time I'd walk across the street to Van Leewan for ice cream! Despite this critique, I would definitely go back again after they settle in a little more--and will happily update this review if anything is different next time. The space out back (which hasn't opened yet but looks like it will in the coming weeks) is beautiful--full glass greenhouse effect. And they have beer and wine now but the server said they are waiting on a liquor license to serve cocktails soon, as well. If the price to size ratio were a fair bit better on the small plates, this might become a regular neighborhood spot for us. But right now, it seems a little out of reach for that. I have a mild garlic allergy, and as so many U.S. restaurants use garlic like it's salt - making for horribly uninteresting, one-note, formulaic cooking - I emailed Panca BK (please don't attempt to call - you will never reach a human being!) a week before our reservation to find out what I could eat on their menu (what was garlic free or could be prepared without garlic). I heard back from them 4 days AFTER we had dined there. Not surprisingly almost every single dish had garlic in it, except the one I was forced to order through a process of elimination. The fluke. They use a wood fire which lends a lovely smoky, crispy quality to the food. However my fluke (and one of my fellow diner's) was one of the worst pieces of fish I have ever had: it was way overcooked and incredibly dry, the skin was crisp, but totally blackened and burnt, it wasn't as fresh as it should be, and so over-salted it was barely edible. There was also not nearly enough green sauce (the only one that didn't have garlic) and it had been spread onto the fish, thus rendering the formerly crispy skin way less crispy. And there wasn't nearly enough sauce either. The only good things I can say about the place is that it has a beautiful, glass ceiling-ed (which can slide open or closed) garden/atrium area, the female servers were really professional and their French fries are delicious! Pity about the poor cooking and incompetent management. read more

I had the pleasure of dining at Panca BK twice in one week solely because we couldn't order everything we wanted the first time we visited! We sat at the bar and got a full view of the bartender making drinks and open concept kitchen. Their grill here is insane! It is a huge contraption with coals that gives all the food a delish char that not many can master the way that Panca has! I tried that steak and chicken that were both cooked on the grill and the flavor was absolutely insane!!! The outdoor space is GORGEOUS. It has a retractable roof so you are truly outside if the weather is nice. The wait staff was also very attentive and very helpful in what to order. I am so happy something new has come to Vanderbilt that is an absolute 5 star experience but still casual enough to go for a cocktail and food on a weeknight. I cannot recommend Panca enough!!! read more
