We liked that Glenn had a plain-English written agreement, that his fee would cover 3 meetings and up to 3 versions of his design, that he would come back to place the plants, and then again to do a final walk-through. I kept ignoring this place because I just assumed that it would be out of my price range. Then, someone suggested I talk to them about countertops. I was totally surprised by the fact that they had affordable options too. We didn't have much of a budget, but we received options that not only look great but are a huge upgrade in quality over what we had previously at a really affordable price. A couple of key highlights - I asked a LOT of questions and asked for pricing on several different configurations. They were great at answering my questions and working up several different prices. Never felt like they were getting annoyed. - Never got up-sold on anything. I would highly recommend Glenn for your landscaping design needs. We are working with Glenn over a multiple year project since our yard is ginormous and we have to work around renters. We have a 3 tiered garden in our home in La Mesa and we were referred to Glenn by our landscaper. Glenn is easy to work with, creative, resourceful, professional, and very organized. He led us through his design process and was very clear with us upfront on how things would go so we knew what to expect. He has a great eye for what looks good while paying attention to saving water and most importantly, what you want. He has been very helpful through the process. One thing is very important - you should have Glenn and your landscaper meet regularly through the design process so everyone, including yourself, is on the same page. We used Glenn to redesign both our back and front yards in 2017. I have waited for the plants to grow into the design before writing my review. We are extremely happy with how our outdoor space looks now. The plants are flowering and the front yard looks amazing. The front yard is on drip irrigation and looks a lot better than the grass. I am a DIY person and specifically wanted someone to help me with a landscape design for two large planters in the front of my house. I needed to be able to see what the end result would look like before I did the planting so I had been searching for someone to provide me with a 3D digital plan but not do the installation. Before finding Glenn, I had only found a few places that would provide a digital design and not want to do the full project mgmt and installation and their prices were way outside of my budget. Glenn was the perfect fit. He is very nice and so easy to work with. His price was very reasonable especially considering how much time he put into the job. He looked at pictures I sent him and listened to my ideas on what I wanted regarding the overall style I was trying to achieve and came up with plant suggestions for me to look at. I went through these suggestions and told him which ones I liked and he came up with a digital plan for me to review. Glenn takes photos of the landscaping area to be done (which in my case was the front of my house with the planters) and then adds the 3D plant images. The digital plan shows the plants at their full size which is very helpful for placement and selection. I have two large front windows that I did not want the plants at full growth to block. I am a visual person and the standard landscaping plans with circles and sketched plants just don't cut it. The digital plan is awesome! I saw exactly what the planters would look like with my house in the background. After I purchased all of the plants, Glenn came and helped me stage them according to the plan to see if any tweaks were needed before I planted them. I highly recommend using Glenn. read more

I have never written a yelp review but I felt the need to have to give one to Glenn and Black Mountain Landscape. I contacted Glenn with a request to help us with our backyard. We had "good bones", mature trees, good larger plants, retaining wall etc... But we had no color or personality in our yard. I told him I wanted to surprise my husband for Father's Day and have the yard planted in one afternoon while he was at work. I told him all the things we liked, how we lived in the space, how we did not plants that would disrupt our pool or attract bees to the pool area. He immediately started sending me plant ideas, shopping location suggestions, plant shopping lists and recommendations for if we wanted to do more in the future. My husband and I just completed our backyard redesign. We read reviews before selecting Glenn at Black Mountain Landscape Design. We are SO GLAD that we did. Glenn is such a nice man and was so easy to work with. He listened to our ideas (and lack of ideas because we really needed help) and came up with a design that turned out absolutely beautiful. What we, our friends, and family can't believe is how much bigger our area looks and how functional and beautiful it is. We had new hardscape put in, a new fire pit constructed, and new factory-built BBQ island installed. There is no way that we, on our own, could have visualized what Glenn was able to accomplish for us. He was able to incorporate our existing patio furniture, fountain, and a birdbath into the new design which saved us money. He also picked out all of our water-wise plants which are great. I am not a fan of succulents and cactus, and Glenn listened and responded by selecting flowering, water-wise plants for us. If we had wanted cactus and succulents, he would have done that as well. I was nervous about some of the decisions we had to make and Glenn was so patient and helpful in making sure that everything worked out right. It did.
