I cannot recommend Mark and Alterra highly enough. We have hired Mark and his team twice now to install turf with some irrigation for the front yard and back yard. Even though it was a few years between the two jobs, he remembered us and treated us amazing both times. For the front, he installed pavers and turf, along with a border of river rocks and drought tolerant plants. For the back, he installed turf and topped off the pathway, going the extra mile to make sure everything looked clean and beautiful. The prices are very reasonable, even as the costs have increased from inflation and materials costs between the years of the projects, Alterra remained very competitively priced. In all my years of home ownership (15+), I can honestly say I have never had a more impressive, professional and quality contractor help me with my current home. Mark, founder and owner of the company, thoughtfully listened to the problems we were trying to solve, reviewed my sketches and came back with terrific suggestions. He was the third contractor I interviewed. The other two referrals that I interviewed came off of neighbor recommendations where I had already seen their great work. However, the first two recommendations were seriously escalating prices on both material and labor, and quoting COVID shipment issues. They said it would take approximately FOUR weeks to rip up all the dying grass in my backyard and side yard, add artificial turf and some pavers and some rocks around my trees. That just didn't seem consistent with what I'd been hearing. I found Mark randomly on Yelp when I realized I couldn't afford the time or money my neighbor's referrals were going to charge me. I was impressed with his ratings. Here's one of the biggest WOW factors: High quality that was so fast and affordable. He met with me the first time on a Tuesday evening. He came back the next morning with a very professional detailed quote and samples of all the materials. It was almost HALF what the other two contractors were charging me. When I asked him how long it would take, he said TWO DAYS. TWO DAYS! From start to finish. He showed up with a very large team the following Monday and, no kidding, finished a beautiful product by 5pm the following day. One week total! Almost half the price. High quality work His team was fantastic. Friendly, polite and Roberto (one of the team leads) explained how most of them have worked together for years. They were very detail oriented and even seemed to be having fun while they worked. I still can't believe it how fast it all happened. Mark had a high level of confidence from the beginning and was all smiles the whole time. They were very thoughtful, cleaned everything up and made our yard look better than new. We weren't a very complicated project and we mostly just wanted to get rid of all the dying grass that we couldn't keep alive over the last 7 years. We've been wasting so much water and it's always too muddy for the kids and dog to play. We are very much looking forward to having him come back and do the front yard! (For reference, my backyard and side yard, total, was about maybe 20 x 50 yds, they did some minor irrigation work, put down some pavers, put rocks/borders around trees, and removed some concrete.) Wonderful turf company. We went through several bids and decided to go with Alterra for many reasons. They were super prompt with their follow-up and we like the personalize attention being a smaller company. They have knowledge and experience working for larger turf companies so they really understand the business so you get the best of both at a competitive price and you get the small personal tough with being able to contact directly the owners and foreman without having to call an 800 number and getting redirected several times. We needed to cover several large areas and several smaller areas that were surrounded by dividers and rocks and plants and a lot of uneven areas. They were super hands on from the top down to ensure it was done correctly and anything we had questions on or wanted them to re-do or fix, they did it and had excellent follow-up to make sure we were satisfied. Key is they are building long term relationships so they want to make sure you are happy as they do other work besides turf. We ran into a little issue after it was installed with the way our yard was set up and they were able to rectify the problem to our satisfaction.
