The coffee is a fine art here. The atmosphere is a secondary freebie of small, cultured norcal town. The shop is clean, music is great and vibes comfortable. The friendly staff take time to walk you through the complex coffee roasts they offer, to scientifically create the proper pour over at the right temperature and ensure your satisfaction. After reading all the "Rave" reviews thought I would give it a try while passing thru. Was the worst Latte and coffer we had ever had! If not back on the road would have asked for a refund! I like a plain black coffee, just coffee! Disgusting after 1 taste, did not aff cream or sugar but tasted like it was laced with honey. The latte again, laced in something maybe flowers or lavendar which we did not ask for! Both went to waste along woth $10.00. Do not get coffee here unless your into drinking flowers, disgusting. read more

This review is mainly for the pour-over drip varieties, which have so much flavor, you won't miss the cream and sugar of typical coffee houses (hiding their nasty bitterness). Love this place! It's a true treat to have a latte here. Many hand crafted special lattes on the menu but order whatever you please. The quality of the coffee is rare and delicious. It's strong and tasty. They baristas care about the drinks they make and you'll know once you try one. My favorite is a 16oz double (they pull every shot as a double so it's truly a quad) spiced brown sugar latte but also can't get a bough of their lavender latte! Mmmmmm! What a great find in what seems like the middle of nowhere! Giant, open, comfortable space, friendly staff, and great coffee. I had the iced Mayan mocha and found the spice a little tame for my taste, but the underlying coffee was obviously great and more than made up for it. It was my first time here the other day. Beautiful coffee house. Unique, quality choices. I had the 20oz iced mayan mocha with almond milk. It was very good and strong without being acidic. I am docking one star for the hipster workers whom were not very helpful or friendly. I got all my items to go and they asked for a tip! Not a tip jar, but actual tip calculation request when signing receipt! I worked as a massage therapist for 15 years..I labored for my tips! Ummm.. NO..They didn't even butter my toasted bagel.Just threw a few cubes in my to go bag.The workers were all standing around the bees.. When I asked what it was they just stood around talking amongst themselves..no response..Barista's if you are "too cool" to work..stay at home.. read more

Love, love, LOVE Black Oak!! Best. Coffee. EVER. Love the unique flavor combinations... the lavender one is fabulous, so is the brown sugar. The Borgia (orange mocha) is my favourite. Never over-powering sweetness for any of their menu items... I REALLY appreciate this! Especially love that they offer coconut milk. And, also the gluten-free pound cake choices are to die for! YUM!! I don't often purchase the other deli items, but they all look amazing, and the quiche is really tasty. All of the staff are always super sweet and friendly. The atmosphere is cheery, although it echoes and is sometimes really loud when it's busy! Often they have live bands, so that's fun, too. The ONLY place I go for coffee in Ukiah anymore. This is the best place for a quality cup of coffee in Ukiah. If you think Starbucks is really good coffee, stop reading this review, there is no hope for you. However, if you know a bit about the art of a great roast on your coffee and have maybe tasted coffee outside the U.S., you'll be able to appreciate how special this place is. If you're looking for something unique, I recommend the Mayan mocha, a traditional mocha with a hint of chile. Walked in on it's grand opening and wowza! I think Ukiah finally has a true cafe. Our party ordered a Cafe Borgia, a regular latte and a hot chocolate as well as a blueberry and cream cheese muffin. My cafe borgia was perfectly rich and flavorful. It was perfectly paired with a hint of orange essence. My husband's latte was also rich and smooth. I love the ambiance and the barristas are always welcoming and pleasant. This is now our go to coffee place. read more
