I love all things latte and I have to say the Lover's Lane Latte and the Lavender Latte here are pretty much the best things ever put in to cups. Whenever we make it over to Ukiah from Sacramento we stop at Black Oak on the way in to town from HWY 20. This place will not disappoint. What a gorgeous little cafe, right in the heart of town. Really unique items like elderflower iced tea and lavender lattes. Music is good and scene is quiet. It's a good place to read or get work done. The only reason I give it four and not five stars is because their wifi was so incredibly slow, .38 Mbps. I used to love this place until i had a very unpleasant experience and was being judged by the staff for what I ordered. It was opening staff, I came to get my coffee before work to this quaint place. When I made my order the female worker started to discuss my order with another customer. Unfortunately I have to give two stars to this coffee shop today as my experience was not quite what I was expecting. This was the second time my husband and I have been to Black Oak Roasters and we were hoping to order coffee and their breakfast sandwiches ( egg & sausage in a biscuit). We came to the register and asked if they had their breakfast sandwiches( as they weren't in the display) and the lady said there should be more coming out but the guy supposedly making them was no where to be found. She said she would remember us and come let us know when they were ready. Meanwhile, we ordered one very horrible and limpy egg and potato breakfast burrito to go which ended up on a plate. We didn't eat it at the coffee shop. If I had known that it was all egg, super large bites of potato and ungriddled cheapest of cheap flour tortilla I wouldn't have ordered another to go. So, 20-30 minutes later after drinking our coffees and obviously 'forgotten' about regarding the breakfast sandwiches (which is why we ordered the burritos) we asked about them and they were never being made. :( Sorely disappointing. I gave this coffee shop 2 stars for a beautiful shop with lots of space to lounge, atleast some reading material and a super awesome vintage world globe that occupied our time while waiting. Oh, and the coffee was its only real redeeming quality-thank goodness! I would give them 4 stars for the coffee, it is quite delicious. My husband ordered the Harvest Pumpkin Latte and I ordered the Brown Sugar Latte and both were perfect-I even dug the heart shaped froth atop my latte. It's just unfortunate that the service was sub par. I wished at a minimum that they knew what was or was not being cooked, the staff could be more attentive to each other and more importantly the needs of their customers! The staff seemed a little better this second time BUT it's true what some reviewers have said about the atmosphere of this place, it is a bit pretentious. If you just want a good cup of joe to go, it's ok but don't expect anything more. :( read more

Finally I can get great coffee and espresso in Ukiah that is comparable to The Flying Goat or Blue Bottle. They have a simple menu that focuses on espresso drinks with a few special flavored lattes. They have pour over coffee with Clever drippers but I haven't ordered one yet. The three or four lattes I have gotten here have all been delicious. The milk is textured nicely and isn't scalding hot. I can tell the owners know what they are doing and I like that there is a vacuum brewer above the record player. read more

The coffee can be a hit or a miss. Most people wouldn't notice. The roaster with the dreads knows how to make excellent coffee but is rarely working front of house. Great tasting coffee but I've had a few burnt coffees which is disappointing considering how much they charge. I still go and do recommend it. read more

This is my favorite coffee shop in town. I don't review places but I felt this called for one. Their lavender expresso milkshake is one of the most AMAZING milkshakes I have ever had and their strudel is to die for. It has apple and strawberry as the filling and the crust is flaky and delicious. They put cinnamon sugar on top and it is easily one of the best strudels I've had to date. read more

I will check back in and see how the business develops. I had no problem with my 1/2 car, non-fat latte. It was delicious. But the service bothered me. The barista had several orders stacked up, but took time to chit chat with customers. Resulting in not only slower service, but his chit chat pals blocked other customers from picking up their orders. At the same time, other employees were chit cheating and not backing up the barista. For now I will give them a 4 in the hopes that these Wei kles will work themselves out. The doctor is a refreshing change from the spartan decor of the former business, the Coffee Critic. Sofas, arm chairs, bar seating and community tables. It now a coffee house, not a cafe with a barista. read more

I've been in here 4 times, no one but the blonde guy was ever very friendly, probably because I dropped over $50 on a cemex, one girl running the roaster actually sneered at me! Today tho, the barista was a straight up jerk. Fuck you and your overpriced burritos, I'll make my own coffee! If you don't like pulling coffee, or working service, go somewhere else and get a job, stop taking it out on the customers. Everyone here could do with a dose of FRIENDLINESS. not cool. I just had a regular latte, which was fine. Nicely laid out cafe that feels big and open. I sat outside with my dogs which is an added bonus for dog lovers. I am just visiting town for the weekend. The most boring breakfast burrito I've ever had- just eggs, potatoes, and cheese- didn't come with any type of salsa or anything. Not sure if I need to go back. Nice interior, hipster baristas, looks pretty much like the Peets I used to go to in San Jose. My espresso was pricey but tasty. The thing that bothered me was the swarm of employees behind the counter- cashiers, baristas, and employees with clip boards "cupping" various roasts for quality control. With normal operation and the "behind the scenes" activities going on out front, it was very distracting. I would prefer a more relaxing experience with a buffer between their day to day operations and my coffee break. read more

I love all of their specialty drinks and when I feel like treating myself they have literally my favorite milkshake ever-chocolate espresso (insert heart emoji here). The lavender latte is another personal favorite. The ambiance is great and it is great venue to study and get work done or meet up with a friend. The workers are always very nice. This coffee place is amazing. The coffee is out of this world. The pastries come from Roland's Bakery in Willits, CA that are excellent. Not only that, Black Oak Coffee makes many delicious pastries as well. We love their scones. Love the staff, the delicious honey and the atmosphere. I enjoy coming here but I was and still am ticked off about how the original coffee critic was gutted and all this junk wood was put in. This is not San Francisco Ukiah is not hipster like this. I don't buy coffee usually, but when I do, here's where I go. The atmosphere is nice and warm and friendly, but not intrusive at all. The coffee is great. The lunch foods I've never tried (too expensive for me), but I've had a couple of the sweets and they were all 3 yummy. read more

The chai latte was bomb. On the other hand, the lavender latte that my friend got was missing the lavender piece of things.
