Yesterday a swarm of bees moved into our house through a second story gap in the soffit. Called several companies both of which are old established and highly rated on Yelp. Both said to leave the colony for 3 or 4 days and wait to see if they leave on their own. They said if they don't leave on their own then they will come out and extract the colony by cutting into the roof to remove the colony and the queen. The third company was Black Ops and Marco. We found them through the SHES. When I called him he thought since the colony had just moved in less than 24 hours previously that they could be prodded out with a strong mixture of vinegar and another chemical which is not toxic to the bees but they don't like the smell. He said he was so confident that it would work that he would come out and try it and if it did not work and he did not get the queen to come out and capture her then he would not charge anything. While the more experienced companies said it was a waste of time (I called them back to see what they thought about Marco's idea), in fact one said he would bet $100 it would not work. But I figured nothing ventured nothing gained. So I decided to let Marco try to coax the queen out and see what happens. Thankfully his strategy worked and the colony came out along with the queen. His price was $200 which given the alternatives from the two other companies which was $750 or more according to them plus if they ended up going through an exterior wall the stucco repair would have been another thousand or more, so we were really happy. Marco is very personable and easy to talk to, he came over the same day we called him and really could not have had a better experience. He loves the bees and I know they will be in good hands and out in the community pollinating throughout the upcoming spring months.
