I happened to be hungry in the neighborhood and was looking for a healthier option so I decided to give this place a try. I had never heard of it but thought Why Not?! I was greeted when I walked in and informed them it was my first time and needed to look. They were friendly and told me to take all the time that I needed. The place was clean and organized. I like that you can see where everything is prepared and see that everything looks fresh. I decided to try the Rice Noodle with Grilled Chicken (#39) and couldn't let those Fresh Rolls with Shrimp (#27) not come home with me as well. Everything was made fresh and took about 10-15 minutes. Once I got home I took everything out and it was all delicious. I really loved the spring rolls. The noodle and grilled chicken was a step out of my usual box so I wasn't sure what to expect but it was great. The noodles had no seasoning to them at all but I was sure provided with garlic chili sauce and some type of light-colored liquid. We have green Thai tea in Bakersfield?! YES YES YES!!! Black Pearl Boba offers a variety of delicious flavors for milk tea, slushes, and Vietnamese coffee. I can't name any other boba shops in Bakersfield that serve green Thai tea-- usually it's just red tea. I was pleasantly surprised to find some here. It wasn't too sweet and the boba was perfect! Not too squishy and not too firm. The service was quick and easy. I had my drink togo, but the interior has a pirate theme. It's pretty cute and different compared to other places that simply shoot for kawaii vibes. Their menu also offers some Vietnamese food. I'll have to come back for a meal soon. read more

I found myself with a short window of spare time between errands I was running the other day and this place caught my eye as an interesting side quest. I was surprised at how vast the menu was - they offered everything from boba teas to lunch items. The gal working was an absolute sweet heart and was very patient with us as we tried to decide what we wanted to try. I went with a basic brown sugar milk tea with boba and my daughter tried the oreo boba frappe (which doesn't contain coffee, in case you were wondering!).. Both drinks were delicious, though we thought they could have used about twice as much boba as was included. Really just wanted a boba drink on this day. On our way back home from the eye doctor and chanced upon this spot as it was on the way. First thing I noticed was the multiple tvs on the wall displaying the extensive menu. It took us a bit to just go through the menu because there were so many items. We ended up getting a strawberry smoothie with popping pearls and a Thai iced tea. However, I should've stopped there. But seeing that they had bahn mi on the menu, I couldn't pass the chance so we tried the combination roll and got it to go. The sandwich was bland and hardly had any meat inside or condiments inside. I had to put some seasoning sauce and extra mayo at home to add flavor and just so I didn't waste it the food. The drinks were just okay but nothing that I'd be craving about. I asked for taro boba and he didn't give me any taro in my boba smoothie just like a little bit and there was no taste to it. It just taste like milk and ice so I went in to ask for him to put more taro powder in it and he takes out a lot of my drink and put a random thing inside of it that was clumpy and brown and didn't mix it or anything it still didn't taste like taro and the chunks kept getting into my mouth and it was not a good taste or texture to have in my mouth. Love that there is a boba place near my house!! I decided to try their Jasmine Milk Tea and it tasted perfect!! Super yummy and flavorful. The service was good (a little slow with one worker), but that's all I can say about this place. The "bread" or banh mi were very disappointing. They were skimpy on the meat and the pate. The carrots and dakon weren't pickled. A very bland sandwich. The Lychee tea drink was good, but I didn't get much of it. I had a lot more ice than the drink itself. Finally a legit boba place in the Northwest! I've been here twice and both times my drink was fresh and delicious. So far I've only had the iced peach tea with black pearl boba. The peach tea is flavorful and you can customize the sweetness to your liking. The boba is semi sweet and the texture is perfect. A bobba drink each for my daughter and me, we ordered the grilled chicken rice noodle bowl with veggies to share, hubby got a beef satay rice noodle bowl with veggies. His Pepsi came in a semi cold can. The veggies: for a dish like that, you're thinking broccoli, cabbage, carrots... no, it was a green salad. When it came to our table in Togo boxes, we started eating: the noodles were tasteless, so poured the sauce on, and it made the noodles foul smelling. The beef & chicken were tough & overcooked. The owner/manager could tell we were not satisfied, as he asked and then suggested that we "mix it all together, that's how you're supposed to eat it", he said. So.... Mix the chicken, rice noodles and salad together!? Then why wasn't it served that way? And no, that didn't help at all. We tossed the food & left. My husband was upset that we spent over $60 for garbage food. He called the restaurant and explained that we were not only dissatisfied with the meal, but clearly didn't eat it as he saw, and were seeking to get lunch elsewhere so he would like a refund on the card. But we were denied. So not only would we never recommend this place to anybody, but we also made it a point to leave this review to prevent others from being as dissatisfied and poorly treated as we were. read more

My drink is so yummy and the black and white bobas tasted so soft and fresh. The sago was good too. Saw this place on a local facebook page and since I'm a sucker for Bahn Mi sandwiches, spring rolls, and milk teas... decided to give it a try. Showed up at about 6:05 pm and the door was locked and the hours showed they close at 6:00 pm. A photo on Yelp showed the old hours which were till 8pm, however the owner came to the door and said he would be happy to serve us. Another couple came in shortly after and he obliged them as well. Since the lights were already dimmed, we opted to take the food to go and decided to try their drinks another time. The owner took our orders and by himself put the orders together in a reasonable amount of time considering it appeared he had already shut down the operation for the night. We ordered a pork sandwich, shrimp/pork spring rolls (had to settle for shrimp only as they had run out of pork), grilled pork and fried spring roll bowl and an order of Sassy wings.. The sandwich was great, the springs rolls good but could have used some carrots, the grilled pork bowl was good but could have used some stronger or more fish sauce, and the Sassy wings were great, though they had gotten a bit soft on the way home. I imagine they were be perfectly crunchy right out of the fryer and consumed at the restaurant. Only got one fried spring roll, but it was great and would likely order a full order of them next time instead of the grilled pork bowl. Will go back and try some of the drinks and grab a sandwich and spring rolls for a quick lunch in the future. And kudos to the owner for taking care of us after they had closed... read more

The staff and owner were nice and attentive. But not impressed with the food. The bowl is a vermicelli dish but I wouldn't even really call it that. Of the 5 meat options they offer, they were out of 3. And they just had their grand opening. I got the grilled pork bowl, and it was just lacking. Rice noodle, cold grilled pork meat (wasn't served hot), with some lettuce, few pieces of cucumber and a little sprig of cilantro. A vermicelli dish would have pickled carrot and daikon, crushed peanuts, a healthy serving of greens with maybe mint or basil, and sometimes bean sprouts. Even the photo on their menu shows a vermicelli dish with picked carrots and basil. But it's not served that way. If you're going to use certain photos on your menu, it should be served that way. The dish here costs more than most vermicelli I'm used to and was definitely disappointing. The flavor of the pork was fine, but was served cold which I don't understand. The only thing that I liked was the egg roll but only because it was cooked fresh. The banh mi was also lacking. Smaller than what I'm used to and also lacking the pickled carrot and daikon. Grilled pork in the banh mi was also served cold. These are minor things that would make it not only better, but also more authentic. We're not in the OC, I can't expect it to be great but I was hoping it could have been. read more

Service: there's usually one girl working there as the cashier and food prep, so if there's more than one customer, you're going to have to wait a while (I waited at least 20 mins with two customers ahead of me once). I know the girls are trying their best. Food: taro boba, Thai ice tea boba, banh mi (Vietnamese & grilled pork) and the fried egg rolls is what I've tried. The taro boba lacks sweetness while the Thai ice tea is a little heavy on the sweet (both times). The boba itself is a tad on the squisher side rather than chewy. The Vietnamese banh mi does not have the traditional meats (Vietnamese meatloaf)/condiments (mayo & liver pate). The grilled pork had grilled flavors but was on the skimpy side. The worst item I had was the fried egg rolls. They were burnt (it was not fresh oil) and it was flat instead of the tube shape. It's great to have a boba close to the house, but there're a few other places that recently opened up that also serve boba. And the Vietnamese sandwiches, I'll head down south to grab the real deal. read more

The owner is so kind and gave us a Vietnamese coffee which was super good! We got the grilled pork and eggroll vermicelli which was great portions and such a healthy lunch! We tried three different banh mi: the pate cha, cha xiu, and meatball and we enjoyed them all! Just wish the banh mi had the Vietnamese mayo too but all good! Pate in the banh mi was very generous!
