I have been fantasizing about the pumpkin spiced Chai latte I got last week from the Broadway Black Rock. I had to stop into the Ustick location to get another one today. I'm hooked! I decided to head in and see what the vibe was like. It's a pretty chill venue. It's a smaller joint. They have quite a few tables to hang at inside. Awesome outside seating as well. The main wall was very colorful and bold! I appreciate that everything else about the joint was simple. The simple decor on the merch shelf. The simple tables and chairs. The main thing that caught my eye was the pretty light fixture. I love unique lighting. Everything flowed nicely together! I was instantly greeted by a cute barista behind the counter. She let me check out the drink menu for a bit. I went there for a pumpkin spiced Chai and as fun as it sounded to try something different, I stuck with my original plan. It was later in the afternoon so it was pretty chill. My drink was made pretty quickly. I grabbed a table to sip on it for a bit. Boy was it good! It tasted just like the one I had last week. It was sweet and spicy in spices. I really like the almond milk that they use. It's so creamy and rich. It's the perfect drink for us fall loving folks! My drink made my day today. I also got a cute sticker from the barista. They have them out for you to grab which was cool. The venue is so chill and the staff is great! I'm happy I stopped in today and I'm looking forward to my next stop in! read more

I go here pretty frequently because it's on my way to work. Every time I go, whoever is at the window has an attitude. Either arguing with a coworker or rolling their eyes when they ask if you have a phone number, rolling their eyes when they give you an italian soda when you asked for a coffee. Sighing and huffing when you're handing them payment. It's honestly incredible. They'll stand around talking and laughing for maybe 10 minutes while holding your drink before giving it to you, I don't get it. That being said, the afternoon crew is a lot more mellow and kind. Maybe the morning shift just aren't morning people, I don't know. read more

I wasn't always a coffee fiend but since I am one I have several coffee spots that I frequent for one reason or another. I really like this Black Rock location. It's super convenient and I like that there's an outside patio and inside area. Their coffee is not good but really good. I like very strong coffee with either a double or triple shot of espresso. I was only akin to coconut milk but have expanded my plant based milk options to include oat and almond milk. Black Rock offers the following plant based milks Almond Coconut Oat Soy Which is fabulous as some locations only offer one or two. It was obvious the kids behind the counter don't take anything seriously, least of all their jobs. They had no sense of urgency, the lines were long and the workers moved slower than molasses. It took forever for me to get my small chai late. You'd think at the peak of commuter time traffic they might try to pick up the pace a little but I guess not. If you need a quick coffee to go on the way to work- don't come here. Also, the coffee was awful. read more

A really cool modern coffee shop that offers many different coffee flavor options to choose from. The modern space is small but offers plenty of seating for the layout of the location. There are not many plugs but they have a variety of seating from some stand-up bars to some lounge chairs. Because of the big windows, it can get very hot and sunny in there when the sun is setting. Also, the internet can be a little slow. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Not many food options to choose from, just the basics like a bagel, cereal and some packaged cookies and treats. If you're looking for a nice atmosphere to enjoy your coffee this is the place to go. read more

Ordered a coconut cold brew.. Idk what I was expecting but definitely wasn't a watered down coffee drink. =( IT WAS SO WEAK. I might give it another try to see if they do better. What the actual hell is going on at this location? Went inside to order. People standing around with no drinks, 2 young girls working but actually not taking orders or making drinks. I stood at the register for 10 minutes without anyone taking my Order. One girl went to the back and didn't come back out the whole time. There was a lady who had been waiting 20 minutes for her drink while they were serving drive thru orders. I finally walked out without ordering. Get it together management. read more

This is their store number 5 in the treasure valley that just opened today! It's no brainer why they are so successful! I love their coffee! My favorite is "the fuel" which is Irish cream vanilla breve with 6 shots! It's a strong coffee but doesn't taste like poison!:)) it keep me up all day long! On March 18, 2023, at approximately 12:45 pm my wife and I visited this location. We asked for two cups of plain coffee. We were told they did not have any coffee made. We would have to wait. We ordered a blueberry scone. It was very dry and tasted like cardboard. We got our coffee and we asked for cream. The young girl said there was none out. She then asked if we wanted her to get some cream... we said yes. We were at this coffee shop for approximately 35 minutes. The entire time we were there we saw a young man wearing a baseball hat sitting at the counter with his legs on two of the stools. He was flirting with the girls who were working. I am not sure if he worked there or visiting. We live in the gated commuting next to this shop. We have heard similar complaints as we experienced. Doubtful if we will return.... such a shame. read more

Visited Boise and have come here for 2 days straight for my morning coffee. Don't have these back home, but makes me really wish I did! Not only are the baristas super friendly and helpful, but the coffee is amazing (especially the mexican mocha). Look forward to making this my regular spot when I move here this year! read more

I never thought I would go to black rock coffee, but I will say this , the mint chip chiller is an amazing drink. If you truly wanna tease your taste buds and like blender drinks this is the way to go. Granted it was a chilly morning this morning I still enjoyed the fact of getting one of these drinks And definitely will not be looking back. A couple days ago I had the jackhammer which is a mocha the has extra kick that will guarantee you to be awake for the rest of the day. What a fantastic spot. Came here on Memorial Day because my internet was down and (sadly) I had work to do. Not only were they open normal hours, the guy behind the counter didn't seem a bit fazed that he was at work on a holiday. I had a peppermint tea and got to work. The prices are reasonable, there's a good selection of coffee and non-coffee options, and the spot is small but comfortable for a meet up or work. The industrial vibe is a bit different than cushy chairs for hours of reading, but it worked great. I'll definitely be back! read more

The coffee is good coffee but my husband and I both ordered a toasted bagel with cream cheese. My husband's was toasted mine was not. There was so little cream cheese you could see the bagel through it. Then I took a bite, the bagel was very stale. My husband had gone to the counter for more cream cheese then took a bite of his and it was also very stale. Now these were each $2.75. I took them to the counter and told the young lady "this isn't your fault but these bagels are very stale" she said sorry. She then came to out table with 2 free drink cards. Nice but I would have rather been reimbursed for the inedible bagels. We were disappointed since we live within walking distance and thought it was going to be a good place for us but we walked home got in the car and went for a bagel to our old standby. My neighbor and I went in today since it is so close to my house. The bagel was perfect and fresh. The coffee was good but my friend and I both agreed we will not go there again. First it is a coffee shop not a dance studio. All four employees were dancing and waving their arms to VERY loud music. Then a couple came in with THEEE big dogs. The dogs were jumping up on the counter where the food is served. Gross. The employees were feeding the dogs. This place serves food why were dogs allowed to be in there with their paws on the counter. We had to shout to be heard over the music and the employees talking and laughing. Like I said coffee is good but I would rather go next door to Maverick and sit there and drink coffee, at least we could have heard each other. This place hands down has the best straight coffee in the valley. It's not a splash of coffee in a swath of sugar like those other guys. You walk in and you can smell the grounds and the aroma is delicious. Very clean with plenty of spaces to work. Perfect if you need to do some work. Word of caution though that you don't need a lot of extra espresso shots in order to get energized! read more

I'm SO happy Black Rock Coffee opened up at this Ustick/Cloverdale intersection. This area was in need of a coffee shop, badly! This is one of best location choices. Opening day looks busy, and I can't wait to come by when I take a neighborhood walk along Ustick. I enjoy their chai, hot. And I plan on trying other drinks as well. read more

Although I hate to say it....it's better than Dutch! I ordered a classic hot chocolate and it didn't leave a weird waxy taste like Dutch does with their syrups. I do wish they would have "creme de menthe" syrup though! The gals were super nice! A good party/nice vibe but not over the top calling you "honey, sweetie, babe". UGH....so sad. I live right by Black Rock on Ustick. I quit going there some time ago because their pastries (muffin tops) were not good. I decided to give it another chance and was happy to see they had good pastries now. I ordered a hot mocha coffee and it was great. The next day, I told my son about the new pastry options and how good my coffee was so he said he would try it. We went and again I had ordered a hot mocha coffee. Yuck. There was sooooo much chocolate in it I couldn't drink any of it. I took the lid off and I couldn't even tell if there was any coffee. There was so much chocolate that I could have just ordered a hot chocolate. Soooo we won't be going there again. I threw a 5.00 coffee away and my son laughed because I said it was a good place to go and then that happened. Still makes me sick to think about that cup of chocolate. A mocha should be COFFEE with a hint of chocolate. Yuck read more

New shop on Ustick and Cloverdale. The shop is backwards with the barista(s) in the back and the lounge up front making it difficult for them to see guests and for guests to see them thus lessening a true coffee shop vibe. The layout is just wrong. I love the industrial look but it doesn't work in this setting. The pastry selection was just okay and lacking in options and presentation. I'm a coffee snob to say the least so I was interested to see what Black Rock Coffee was all about. I inquired which roast they used for espresso and was told the medium roast. It was okay. The latte itself was the proper temp and the milk properly frothed but the bean fell a little flat. I asked the baristas to tell me about Black Rock and the answer was "they're from Oregon." Nothing was offered about the company or the roasting, where they get beans what kind of beans etc...... As ambassadors for Black Rock it would be helpful and valuable to know about their products. You don't have to be passionate but knowing something about a brand is good. read more

If I could give a 3 1/2 star I would. Rating on entire experience. This was our first time visiting a Black Rock coffee and we wanted a place to be able to sit inside and have a pastry with our coffee. Upon walking inside it seemed clean, but very cold and uninviting. I love the use of the natural elements like the cement floors, wood walls, and wood tables and chairs, but there was absolutely nothing on the walls and it just felt cold and bare. The drink menu was not visible when you walk in, so you have to basically wait until you get up to the register to decide what to order...even then the print on the board was small and hard to see. The staff was friendly and inviting. The pastry case was pretty scarce, and nothing really looked good, so we ended up not buying anything out of it. The glass was all smudged up and greasy looking...I would recommend cleaning it better to make the few items that were in it look a little more appealing. We sat in the leather chairs while we waited for our coffee and they were super uncomfortable, so we got up and moved to the bench. We received our coffee and hung out for a while to try and just take it all in, but didn't stay long. My coffee was excellent and my husband's was just ok. I don't think I would go back inside for any reason at this point, but I may go through drive thru to grab the same coffee again. (To the owners...some things from a customer stand point that could really improve the experience...add some artwork to the walls to make it feel a little more inviting. Above your ordering area add a more visible drink board, so that people standing in line or just arriving and undecided can look at it before approaching register. Fill that pastry case up with more options. The people in front of us left because there was nothing good in the case FYI. Remove the stools next to the register, so that you can see the drink board, and so it isn't awkward trying to get your drink when it's ready. I see potential here!) Update...I have since been through the drive thru a few times and coffee has been great every time as well as friendly service. No desire to go inside again, but the coffee is great! read more
