As a former black rock barista this location is very disappointing. I came by recently with a big order of 6 drinks with a girl walking up to the cars. As we pulled up to the window they gave us the drinks and the last one was incorrect as it needed cold foam on top. They took it back and the black haired girl made a big deal talking about how we weren't charged for the cold foam. After paying $40 with a tip. It was very uncomfortable for me and my husband because we can hear this whole interaction of how we didn't pay for the cold foam. After 3 minutes they gave us the drink but asked us to pay a dollar. I was shook said I didn't have any cash on me and left. Won't be coming back to this location anymore. I have never made a big deal like that over anything working for this franchise. If it was our mistake please keep the wrong drink and let me remake it for you no charge. read more

Most of the girls are rude, especially the older one with black hair (didnt get to catch her name). But the short girl with black hair and the short guy with blonde hair were very helpful. was a regular customer till I got so frustrated from regularly having people cut in front of the line and the employees do nothing about it. when I confronted the employee about this she just didn't care and was like do you expect me to hold the line up.....seems simple you can do so many things to diffuse the situation but she had no customer service skills and was like I dont care. seems very silly and very unprofessional for the location MANAGER to have no empathy especially for her regular customers. guess im going back to Dutch cuz there service is over the top. black rock get it together and train your managers in basic customer service or lose customers that get tired of the hassle cuz I'm done after this!!! read more

This location has very nice employees. This review is not about them. The OWNER however is such a Scrooge he/she won't allow the staff to serve you ice ... and I'm not even talking about free ice. Totally willing to pay for it, but no. Even tried to buy an iced drink and then was going to pour off the drink to get the ice ... nope!!! Are you kidding me? Not cool. There was nothing I could do or order to get "more" ice for my iced coffee. Da fck? I get that there are expenses related to having ice available for iced beverages. It's called a business expense just like coffee and syrups etc ... and if you can't see that offering that service (even with a fee to cover your costs) to your paying customers then you're an idiot! Every other location lets you buy ice or ice water or extra ice, etc. so from now on, we'll be going to ANY AND EVERY location besides this one. Love this coffee place! I am pretty fussy and while traveling I take my coffee ritual seriously (since I can't make it my way at home). I've been to 3 different Portland area locations...a larger sit down, and tiny drive ups. The coffee is consistently good. They must have a good roaster. Sooo much better, richer, smoother than Starbucks. Friendly people working and even some frequent discount perks. Fantastic business!! read more

This is my new addiction! After trying out their iced Americano I was hooked! We usually come here after a good workout at the gym located right next door. The location is pretty busy due to the close proximity to the Planet Fitness and also 181st Avenue. Be careful when pulling in and out of this parking lot as some of the people drive a bit fast. There is a drive thru and walk up window I usually opt for the walk up window as the drive through can get pretty busy during the day. The staff here is very friendly and are generally pleasant to converse with. The drinks are moderately priced and they also make smoothies and Italian sodas. I come here for the fast, friendly service and the bold, richness of the coffee served. I highly recommend the Iced Americanos and Italian Sodas. read more

I understand times are hard. But even before covid. And all the while until now. This location is so terribly slow it's not even funny. THIS time they had an employee taking orders by iPad. And guess who still waited twenty minutes PLUS while the line didn't move maybe one or two cars? There's no justifiable reason as to why this location is so slow and I've had a total of maybe one decent transaction here. Employees are overly bubbly to the point they seem fake. Please get it together guys and girls... I get slow days but why is every day here so bad? I go to other locations in the Portland area that are busier and move even faster than you do. Another great location! I love BR Coffee Bar, I've been a loyalist for years :) The thing about Black Rock is that no matter which one of their many locations you go to, you will get consistent good tasting flavorful coffee. AND their prices are way lower than most of their competitors. The employees are young, hip and fun. Oh, and friendly. Most of the locations are drive-thru only. But they usually keeps the lines steadily moving... no super long wait times. Ask for a punch card. Get any free drink with the purchase of 10 drinks/punches on the card. read more

As an East Coaster, these little drive-through-only coffee shops look so adorable and practical, Portland is filled with them. I was slightly awkward using them at first: "So there's no where to sit? But I already parked the car..." basically there's no indoor seating (though some locations will have outdoor). And while it is a "drive through" coffee shop, you don't actually have to drive. One side of the shop is for vehicle traffic and the other is for foot traffic. This place has not only a solid coffee selection, they offer juice smoothies, a (very limited!) tea selection and an energy drink smoothie (apparently these are popular here in Portland as I've seen other coffee chains also over this, each chain partnering with a different energy drink brand). I haven't had the courage to try the energy drink smoothie but I'm sure it'll be an experience. Overall this is a great quick place to grab coffee and the barista working was super patient and took my struggling to find how to order in good humor. read more

Both of the ladys working today around 2pm were so rude. Both had attitudes. Rolled there eyes at us and could barley make small talk. Plus its the First time iv ever been told I don't get points for buying a kids drink. (So not true, you do get points , I'm a die hard black rock fan.) I don't know where they find the awesome kids that work at every Black Rock in town, but added to the delicious coffee and convenience - they make Black Rock the best at what they do! Roll up to the drive through, and expect a truly friendly greeting. They somehow manage to keep the line moving quickly while taking a moment to ask about your day. In my hundreds of visits, I've never once encountered a rude, rushed or distracted employee. They have every kind of coffee drink, they offer hundreds of flavors & milks, and the make it for you lickety split. It reminds me of Coffee People, deep & dark, so flavorful. Give a tip & get a bright smile and truly sincere thanks. Their food items are really limited (but do yourself a favor & try the new granola bar - so yum!!). It's not the cheapest coffee, although I think it's well worth it. My giant almond latte with extra espresso was over $6, but get get a punch card & get a free beverage, which they cheerfully make for you. read more

I love Blackrock... but not this one. They kinda suck. Compared to the one on Stark.. Here they aren't friendly or very upbeat.. they are so so so so slow.... and it is just meh. I was not much of a coffee person until I came here to Black Rock Coffee. I tried the Irish Latte and really just fell in love with the rich complex flavor of the coffee. Most people think coffee is coffee but I dont. This is why I never go to Starbucks EVER! Anyways the staff are friendly and courteous and CUTE. The wait is usually nominal even when there is a line. I now come here about once a week for coffee whereas I rarely drank more than one cup of coffee a month before coming here. I highly recommend if you are looking for a new style of brew. read more

I love BlackRock I go everyday, this site I frequent 3-4 times a week you'd think they'd know me by now. The girls are extremely rude and slow. I walked up to the counter nobody in line and the girls said someone else would be right there to take my order, she then proceeded to walk away and stand and chat with the other girls inside completely ignoring me, then 5 minutes later she then took my order. I go to the one on 82nd everyday and the service there is phenomenal, they know me by name and always have my order ready for me and engage in a nice conversation. Completely unimpressed by this location. Girls need more training and need to learn to be engaged with all customers not just certain ones. Being in management myself this behavior in not appropriate, take care of ALL you customers. read more

Honestly not better than Starbucks or Dutch bros. the small is more expensive than the large at Dutch bros and the price matches or is more than Starbucks. The coffee sucks, the whip cream sucks. It isn't good at all. Disappointed. $8 for two blended drinks and we drank maybe 1/4 before throwing them out. They were shitty, over sweetened, over priced cups of crap. Will not waste my money here again. I'll drive to the Dutch bros and get my usual and actually drink it, not wasting my money on shit. I was excited to try this places with how much people rave about it, and how popular it is but it was a huge disappointment. Honestly save some money and drive to Dutch or Starbucks or even 7/11 (because having there over sweetened coffee would be better).
