This place used to be so good. It's gone downhill. 3 times in a row I've had staff basically do the Spider-Man meme where they just point at each other and then no one actually puts our order in. So we sit and wait for literally 40 minutes before we're able to get one to look at us as we violently wave them down. This last visit, I popped in for a night cap, the wait staff remembered me and my dog, made note of it during our conversation. I put in an order. Allowed another typical 49 mins before I checked in on it. One single beer. Not busy that evening so what was the hold up? Again, staff not owning their positions. Has to be noted, two of the staff members who greeted me literally sat down at the table next to me for over 30mins doing literally nothing but chatting up the customers. read more

Not my vibe for an eatery at all. I don't do sports bars. That's subjective, of course, but that said, there were some improvements that could be made that would likely benefit everyone, whether or not this place was appealing to them. We arrived fairly late in the evening, so I gotta say it's nice they were open. The inside of the restaurant was uncomfortably cold. Probably they were trying to combat the summer heat from earlier in the day, but after ten PM at night that really wasn't necessary. Not even cuddling up on my husband was good enough. The music inside was absolutely pounding for no reason. I couldn't even hear the conversation between our friends who were seated more than one butt-length away from me. What good is it to go someplace where you can't even converse together? If I wanna listen to music that loud, I'll go to the club, thanks. The other ridiculous thing was the guy taking our meal order, who just stood way down on the far end of our table, making no effort to go around and get closer to each of us... Everyone had to SHOUT their order at him... Well except me. I literally stood up and walked over to where he was standing because I don't particularly enjoy shouting I want a side of fries and a mixed drink, or worrying he'll have misheard me and get me the wrong thing. And as it turns out, they weren't even serving the fun fruity drink advertised prominently on their menu any more. Gee, thanks. He offered me something "similar" (an "ocean water") which ended up being rather small and pricey, and not really enough alcoholic content, imo. Well anyway, we decided to sit outside instead to improve comfort. I know not everyone in our eight-person group was in agreement about temperature levels, but outdoors on the patio felt like the lesser of the two evils at that point since it was cooler with the sun down. Weirdly we couldn't select whichever bench we wanted outdoors though, because the server had specific seating arrangement and apparently couldn't accommodate?? Even though it was pretty quiet and not many customers were coming in by then. I don't get it. So yeah, customer service was kind of meh at best... though I am only judging by the one employee we had the most contact with during our time there. Maybe others are better? Hard to know. Probably not going back anytime soon to find out. I will say their fries and fried cheese curds tasted AMAZING. So they had that going for them. Also they had a big water jug outside so you could grab yourself refills whenever you liked, which I personally liked. A little stainless steel doggie bowl for hydrating your pup. read more

This is the BEST place to watch sports! So many TVs. You can watch from any angle. The service is on point. Friendly and quick. The beyond burger here was fantastic. A real chargrilled burger! We walked in last night and I was immediately greeted by Sean throwing compliments to my jersey. Once we sat down it just so happened that he was our server as well. Sean was extremely friendly and helpful. Recommend great food, modifications to the food, and gave us great conversation. We started with cheese curds and Sean recommended throw some different spices on there. I got the chicken wings and they were huge. Perfect crisp to it. My girlfriend got a Chicago dog and that was tasty. We ordered a side of cheese fries and I was not expecting them to be that big of a portion. Overall great experience. You know you've found a gem when you've been coming to Black Sheep Lodge for a while, just to only find out it was recently named one of Yelp's Top Sports Bars to watch the World Cup in Austin. What I enjoy about Black Sheep Lodge is the laid back environment and the outdoor space to casually enjoy a beer or three. Now my fave part of BSL is their fried pickles. I seriously could eat a whole platter for myself, that's how delicious they are. They have a huge selection of draft beers to select from. I do love my local Austin Bars! And Black Sheep has given me so many great memories.... Looking for a "unicorn?" you'll find plenty of natives here! I was a huge fan when they first opened. Music. Community. Meeting new friends! It was great! I have to say, I'm not a sports fan. And I really don't think we need another sports bar. But I know I'm a minority in this. Playing important games here and there sure! But when the TVs came, the Music died so much! The table sharing was less. But you know what? I still feel like I'm "home" when I come here. Black Sheep is in prime location and a convenient place to catch sports games or simply enjoy the outdoor patio. Wings, fried pickles, and burgers are all pretty good. I'm a big fan of $3 Bloody Mary's on Sundays. Most places that have a good deal on drinks usually give pretty crappy portions, but Black Sheep makes a good bloody and has good service. The staff here isn't just rude--they're downright hostile and unprofessional. If you enjoy being treated like garbage while spending your hard-earned money, then by all means, step inside. They won't even bring you a glass of ice water, they will treat you like a peasant begging & even if you are sitting inside they tell you to go get it from a cooler outside--which may or may not have any drops of water left. The sheer arrogance and disdain they have for their paying guests is staggering. Every request is met with eye rolls, attitude, or outright refusal. If you're looking for a place to watch sports in Austin, this can be it! Went on a Sunday to watch NFL games and they had every game on between the many TVs. The place got more crowded as the day went on and the environment was fun for games. The food is typical bar food but I actually quite liked my Buffalo sauce burger and tots. Good beer selection and beer prices were fair. Not sure I would visit on a random night but would definitely come back to watch football. read more

I don't see myself coming here again. I use to come here fairly often before the pandemic so it has been a few years. I stopped by to grab some drinks and dinner and it was not what I remember. The game that was on was way too loud. I understand the need for sports bars but this was a bit absurd. The food was a step below poor fried bar food. We even got a number of things for a variety and it still was not worth it. Fried pickles, cheese curds, chicken wings and a hot dog. All over cooked and not worth the spend. Beers were ok. Decent selection of beers which is really all they have going. Service was also decent. Still don't think I'll find myself back here. Too many other places around town with good drinks and food that beat this place out. But if you want to watch a sports event with tvs at every corner of the room and the sound will stop any possible conversation, this is your place. read more

Let me start by saying that I used to LOVE Black Sheep. However, the last couple of times I've been there, I've been served the absolute worst burgers. The meat was very overcooked, there was barely any BBQ sauce on it, the onion rings were disgusting, and everything was inedible. I literally threw it in the trash. I live nearby and have been a regular at the BSL since 2011. I haven't gone out much since the pandemic, but I'm starting to revisit my prior haunts that hung on through COVID. The BSL has always had fairly good burgers and exceptional fried items, but lately (spring 2023), their burgers have been outstanding every time I've had one. They cook to order (mine are done a perfect medium rare), and use Angus beef that is evenly ground and formed into a half-pound patty. The toppings are fresh and the buns are ample and up to holding the contents of the burger. My favorite is the green chile cheeseburger (comes with bacon) - make sure you get plenty of napkins for this one! The fried lodge sides that come with each burger are all very good, but I keep coming back to the tater tots. I miss the weekly menu specials they used to have and the pie they offered for dessert, but the expanded burger menu and lunch deals are most welcome. The beer list is top notch, and they have a full bar. I have only good things to say about the service - all of the staff seem interested in helping you enjoy your experience, whether you're at the bar, in the back room or on the patio. Their patio is, by the way, a wonderful spot to watch the South Austin parade that is everpresent on South Lamar Boulevard. If you haven't been to the BSL lately, it's worth the effort to come by and check it out. The food is better than ever and the atmosphere has remained comfortable and welcoming. I used to love black sheep lodge but the staff there has become HORRIBLE. I'm beginning to wonder if they are racist. I recently attempted to patronize this business, sitting at a table I waited for 20 minutes for ANYONE to greet me. Instead they sat and served all of the other 5 or so tables and proceeded to ignore me. Naturally I tried to find a server myself and when I did they not only seemed annoyed I would ask but they weren't even aware of where I was sitting, even though my table was in the very middle of the dinning room. They weren't busy, they had plenty of time to stand around and chat with each other. Inattentive and rude. No matter I wont be back and I implore you avoid this business They are the absolute worst. I'd rather jump crotch first into a cactus than ever come back here again. P.s. the food is not great. read more

Male server Ashton interrupted a friend and my conversation after I closed out our check (and tipped 20%) to inform us that if we weren't going to buy anything else that we had to leave. We were there for about an hour and 15 mins and there was no wait so there wasn't any apparent need to vacate our table. Ashton informed us that we were taking up a table in his section and he "kinda needed it open so he could make money" that night. I served for 6 years between high school and college and couldn't imagine ever asking a customer something like that. If Black Sheep has time limits on their patrons and hires combative/entitled servers then this place has really gone down hill. read more

I love black sheep lodge. I've eaten there many times and I've enjoyed the food and the service but this last time sent me, and my friends, over the edge. The waitress collected our bills and read the tips and complained about them. We didn't tip enough for her. They were pretty generous considering she didn't give us ranch for two of the meals, absolutely disregarded an appetizer and we didn't see her for 2/3'd of our service. However she thought different. I live locally and wanted to try this place out, after driving by many times and seeing how busy it is. From the start, this place just flat out disappointed. Ordered two Margarita's, because who can screw that up? They did. Tasted like straight up sour mix. I tried to stomach a few more sips, because I didn't wanna be a Karen and send it back, but I atleast wanted something that I could stomach. Asked the server for one of the craft cocktails. They were out of it. Asked him for another. Out of it. Finally settled on a 4th drink choice. We ordered the "Buffalo" cheese curds and fried chicken wings ($8 for four wings) (I requested all flats with two sides of blue cheese). We waited about 15 minutes before the cheese curds came out. Nothing special, no "Buffalo" taste, just basically little fried mozzarella bites, and they didn't even have any marinara. Oh well, we were hungry. The wings came out. They weren't "all flats" as requested, and had no blue cheese, or any dipping sauce at all. The server apologized for his mistake, but seemed hesitant to send them back for what was requested, but he ended up taking them back. We decided to just put the rest of the dinner order in while he was there. Got the mushroom burger, with the veggie patty option ($16), hold the lettuce, and a chicken tender basket ($12) So we sit another 10 minutes, eating cheese curds and still waiting for our drinks. The burger comes out with lettuce on it (no worries, I'll just peel it off). The chicken tenders come out, and you can just bite into it and see that it's not an actual chicken tender, but more like something you'd get from a fast food restaurant. The veggie burger ($16) was bland, and since we're talking fast food, I should've just gone to P. Terry's, because the quality is superior to what was served at Black Sheep. Still no drinks. The wings come out with "all flats" as originally requested. I take one bite, and it's just soaked in grease. Shortly after, the drinks finally come out. By this point I've lost my appetite, and the 4th requested drink was literally the only satisfactory item. We ate one and a half of the chicken tenders before deciding they weren't worth eating, and weren't worth taking in a to-go box. We waited another 10 or so minutes for the server, before I had to physically get up to find him and ask him for a box for the veggie burger, and a check. He comes back with the check a few minutes later, thanks us for our patience, apologizes for the screw ups, and then asks if we need a box (smh). $67 + for all of that. I didn't expect fine dining. But I expected basic "bar food" to be done atleast decently edible. It's insane that they're charging $16 for a veggie burger served in a standard red plastic basket, and $12 for frozen tenders. Even some of their drinks go up to $15! At this place? Lol, I could understand if you're at a restaurant in The Domain or something, but a little hole in the wall/local spot? There is no reason this bar should be rated 3.5 stars besides the fact it's been around and that allows it more exposure to bad reviews. Staff is on top of it! Chili cheese hot dog is best in Austin. Great selection of beers on tap. Not to mention a great patio! Best part: they have any and every sports game available. I have dined all over the country and my favorite burger is the Black Buffalo Burger. I first tried it almost ten years ago and it continues to be consistently good. The patty is hand molded and the balance of Buffalo sauce with the blue cheese is absolute perfection. It's huge and served with a fried side, I typically choose the tots. This is a solid bar with plenty of options. They have a mildly exhaustive beer selection which will please any palate, discerning or otherwise. I plan to visit more and scroll through the list of options again. There's also a number of daily food and drink specials and I believe there is a happy hour offered as well. I typically come to here to watch [European] football (soccer) with a cold beer and standard American bar fare. My one gripe is that they have a pretty good burger that they just don't know how to cook at medium temperature. I've ordered it twice and reiterated that I'd like it medium and it comes out well done each time. That's mad annoying but I'm still holding out faith that they'll get it right one day. The fries are pretty top notch. Again, you can't loose coming here just on the strength of the beer selection alone. I'll be back for a better burger experience soon. read more
