Frankie Ray is a master at taming my chemo curls! At our first session, Frankie took the time to teach me how to love and appreciate my curls. Having a curl specialist in my life has made my hair far more manageable. The salon is super relaxing and chill. There's chatty time if you want, but you can request service without chitchat. So I found this place on the TikkyToks and the stylist was doing someone's first gender-affirming haircut. They are queer, neurospicy, and woman owned, and just altogether rad. Their booking page gives you a survey to ask about any sensory or health needs you might have so that they can make you as comfortable as possible Marie, the owner, took care of me, and was super patient with my millions of questions, and asked *me* a million questions to make sure she understood exactly what I wanted. She also did a bunch of troubleshooting with me for some hair problems I've been having. They also give a free two week grace period for any adjustments Bonus points for tons of free parking all around that area. 14/10 would go back. read more

As a black femme, I don't let just anyone do my hair, but at Black Sheep, I would trust any of the stylist with my life. I've been going to the owner Marie for years now but also have had the pleasure of having Tombra work on my hair as well and they are amazing. They always give me exactly what I ask for and when I give them free range to be creative I'm never disappointed. I even take their children to get their hair cut and styled at Black Sheep. Curly haired friends of all patterns, look no further than this salon! Not only is it my favorite for the environment and vibes, they also have extremely talented stylists. Frankie has taken care of me from the beginning and I LOVE how much my hair has improved with their care and tips. I get their curl detox package and the difference in my hair after is so noticeable even though I cleanse regularly on my own. I've never seen my curls look more lush even at more expensive salons like Ouidad. This place is ever so accessible and the true definition of a judgement free zone. I love how comfy the hair washing stations are because that has always been my least favorite part. They're super cushioned and wide so that they may accompany people of any size. Just go. I have bad experiences with my natural hair and was VERY nervous to let anyone touch it and I think Tunowa and Marie both saw that. Understanding this Tunowa took her time with me and educated me a little about my hair. I bought the Uncle funkys and my hair is SO soft, she knows her shit! Mine, in particular Mrs. Tunowna started my initial hair consultation and went over the services  i requested. Now let me get into this wash..... I've never had such and AMAZING wash experience . She really took her time educating me on MY HAIR. I'm so Grateful becuase natural hair is not easy to get the hang of in the beginning stages.  Products, education, and routine are key. She taught me that. The hydration steam was Devine, during this part i was offered A beverage and lite snack. If they didnt have me at the was process. They sure did my drink and snack. After my final rinse, i did a little twisting and shouting to bring out my natural hair movement and part. SO MUCH FUN. I cannot recommend this salon enough. I made an appointment with Marie for my niece, who is 13, to have her curly hair cut. She is from a small town and I wanted to take her somewhere where I knew she would feel seen and validated. Not only does Marie have rockin hair and style, but she really took the time to listen to her, asking her about if she wanted a more femme or masculine look. She likes a more masculine look and I worried that bringing her to a mainstream salon could mean ending up in the chair of someone who pressured her. Being able to get my hair done at a professional salon has always been something I couldn't do because of inaccessibility. Being an in safe, inclusive, ACCESSIBLE space means so much to me. The restrooms are very accessible with bars and plenty of space for a wheelchair to go in. They have special funnels to wash hair which is perfect for someone disabled like me. It's hard to get out of my wheelchair so knowing I don't have to move a muscle but just look cute is awesome. They staff, omg they are one of the best folx I've ever met. I seriously was so comfortable I did not want to leave. They go above and beyond to make things work and they try until they get it. I can't recommend them enough. read more

I've been going to Marie for years and I make the drive to Long Beach because I trust Marie with my hair (and also Long Beach is dope): Marie is super talented and really listens to what you're trying to go for with regard to both cut and color. There have been many a time I've just said here's the colors I'd like, just make it cute, and they Effing do it! The shop is super cute a with a very accommodating and welcoming environment for those with particular needs be it sensory, size, and/or gender. I've been twice for a wash + cut with Frankie and they're absolutely awesome. I love that the salon is so friendly about asking if you'd prefer everyone to mask. I had a lovely experience at Black Sheep Salon! It was the first time I ever had my hair professionally cut and I was very nervous about it, but Frankie was amazing and talked me through the whole process. I'm mixed race and have curly hair and they gave me styling tips that were very easy to understand and the final cut made styling at home so much more accessible as it didn't require me to have to hold my arms up for half an hour curling and defusing. Helped maintain the length of my hair (as I'd been growing it out), while also adding shape to it.
