I got my hair done by someone I believe her name is Briana, two strand twist. I came up with ideas, such as flat twist, but she said she couldnt do them. I had gotten flat twist by another stylist before so I was kind of surprised. As a stylist it seems she lacks creativity, and she should work more on her craft.... instead of making slick "mean-spirited" comments. She should really step her game up as an stylist! read more

Just a long review turned short.. I was a walk in appt with Keyerra, my parts were triangles, I walk out with squares on my head instead I let her know, She blames me for not telling her beforehand, claims she did me a favor for cleaning hair regardless. She claims to be a professional The Shop owner, Danyette, decided to see me again siding with stylist that full disclosure of the triangles was needed, "tells me interlocs are fixed," tries to re form triangles on 2nd Try The last picture is from a new stylist who took her time to cut, reform, and regrid each loc aiming for that diamond/triangle parting look I was looking for. The customer Service is not what this review is about, even though I tipped & was trying to be understanding, I believe this post is warranted! I wish I never stepped foot in this place. We all know Locking a straight hair is tricky.. I did my research and Im so glad that I found this place! My hair was very long, and it took us almost 11 hours to get my long hair done.. and it came out amazing! The best thing is that I did not sense any kind of rushing from Keyerra at all.. Even though she had been working on my hair all day and I know that she's tired - but she made sure that it was done properly. Now that's love and care for your customer! After months of being too busy to fit in time for my locs I finally made the first move to get back on track. I called a few other local locticians with no luck to get me in timely. I came across Locs Myth and the ease and flow of setting up my consultation and get me booked was perfectly timed! I met with Cinee and felt at ease right away. She worked in my untamed locs diligently and was gentle and kind to my tenderheaded mane. It was nice once I initially started coming here got my hair retwisted several times here , I actually started my Locs from the owner ( she's great ) , there is an employee named Brittany and she is the most unprofessional person I have ever came across , she double booked me the last 3 times in a row and the last time I was supposed to be getting my hair retwisted by her , she canceled on my while in was still driving to her. Keep in mind I was coming from Riverside to meet them in Long Beach. & today ( May 28 ) she denied my style request, so at this point I'm going to looking for another stylist to help me out from this moment on! First, I would like to say that Locs Myth has amazing staff and excellent service. And I completely enjoyed my experience. Upon making the appointment, I was set with another shop for maintenance for a wedding that I am in, this Thursday. The beautician continued to push back the date until it became inconvenient for me. So I called Locs Myth which is close to where I live. They quickly answered my call and arranged an appointment for today. Walking in you receive a comfy and completely raw environment. From large pictures, wholistic merchandise to reading material and doggy beds. The two women that assisted me were Kiara and Brittany. This is a great place to see community values in action. The owner is experienced, believes in community action, has grown this business over time, and continues to practice her values and this is represented in her staff. I went the the shop for the about 6 years prior to the pandemic. The Loctician that I worked with started their own location but I recently came back for an appointment. There are a variety of folks that will work with different styles, colors, and hair types. This place is children friendly and lastly if you dont like your technician their just communicate. I have no doubt that Danyette is a talented women when it comes to locs. Her hair is beautiful, and its clear that she has regular customers. I met Danyette in a store by complimenting her hair. She gave me her card.I called to make a consultation appointment. I wanted to learn what loc methods she offers and in general if she would be a good choice for me. Well, my answer is NO. It may be a cultural thing, as in the African American community, beauty salons seem to come with thier own set of rules. Timing has long been known to be a problem in black salons. But when I am going to shell out over 100$ for any kind of service, I want my appointment time to be honored. That said, my situation went like this: My appointment time was for 1:00pm on a Saturday. I arrived 5 minutes early to find Danyette washing someones hair and another lady was under the hair dryer. She greeted me and apologized for the fact that it would be 30 minutes till I could be seen. I wasn't happy about that, but I was willing to wait. But it gets worse from here. During my 45 minute wait- Danyette decided to put entertainment on the TV for us to watch. She chose YOUTUBE VIDEOS OF BLACK GIRLS FIGHTING! You know the kind of "World Star Hip Hop" ratchet stuff with black girls pulling each others weaves out. As I sat there reading my Ebony magazine I was thinking "Really tho?" For those of you who may be wondering why I did not say anything, well its not my establishment and the other two patrons seemed to be enjoying the show. I then knew that this was not the place for me. I looked down at my phone to see it was 1:41 and she was still interlocking the gentlemans hair whom she was washing when I got there. I knew it would be at least 2:-2:15 before I would be seen. I got up and left. For me that is completely unacceptable. Maybe this is the norm or the standard in the AA hair salon community, but not for me. She never looked at me to check in and see if I maybe wanted to come back/ make a new appointment time. This leads me to believe that being late is just the Black Salon way to doing things. But even if she was on time for me, as soon as she put that horrible crap on TV THEN I would have requested that she play something else, or I certainly would have been out of that chair before you could say "put it on Youtube." Perhaps I am guilty of making the assumption that just because this lady has long beautiful dreads and she has a "natural" hair shop that she would be all hippe/spiritual/conscious etc.- I thank her for reminding that hair is just hair- and no matter what ON your head its what IN your head that counts! Even if that means watching black-on-black violence in a "Natural Essence" environment. I surely didn't see that one coming! Maybe I was the only one this happened to, or maybe its the norm and other people don't mind it. Either way, if you are a person who likes courtesy, punctuality and a POSITIVE ENVIROMENT for your dread/loc needs, All I have to say is make sure you confirm with her ahead of time that you want your time respected and if she can't deliver then don't make an appointment. This isn't just a hairstylist or her place of business but it's an experience. She uses great products, invests in hair care, instruction for care, and education. Wish i remembered the name of the lady but my experience wasn't good whatsoever. set an appointment for a palm roll retwist. she was about 15-20 mins late. (should've gotten $1 off for every minute late) so i was just sitting there waiting even though i set an appt. the shop is rather small and uneasy to maneuver through. parking is decent. the product used had a weird smell to it so i wouldn't go back. the best part about it all though was the massage when she was washing my hair!!! felt amazing read more

Ok ! So! I went and got what was suppose to be a "trim" but can our with a hair "CUT". First off .. this review isn't based off of the professionalism, but solely off the lack of knowledge of giving someone a "TRIM" appose to a "CUT". So this past Friday January 5th I went in for a trim with a very NICE young lady. I told her I wanted a TRIM.. and she stated that she could do the job. I also told her that I wanted a Co-Wash along with my trim. She took me to the wash bowel and assured me that she was going to give me a Co-Wash. Moments later, while attempting to multi task ... speaking to her coworker and giving me a Co-wash.. this lady SHAMPOOS my hair after I told her SEVERAL TIMES that I wanted a CO-WASH. Which is a wash with conditioner ONLY .. not SHAMPOO! So I ignored that .. then it came time to trim my hair .. I asked her OVER AND OVER as to the best method when it comes to doing my trim. I asked her if it were wise to trim my hair wet or dry. She kept assuming me that trimming my hair wet was the way to go. Now let me paint a picture of my hair. My hair is has SEVERAL different textures in which she agreed. My length in the back (when stretched) was between my shoulder blades .. the sides was collar bone length.. and my front was past my chin.. My hair over all is a VERY tight curl pattern.. pretty defined .. very bouncy and full .. (4a-4b texture).. and that's when it's set with gel .. now imagine with water. Once she sectioned my hair and began CUTTING the first section I KNEW IN MY SOUL that she was butchering my hair .. I just KNEW IT! You know when you go to the shop .. and the sound of the scissors make when someone's taking a little off oppose to ALOT.. yea I knew it ! As she got towards the middle .. I'm looking at my curls just fall in front of me .. I kept asking her over and over .. "aren't you cutting too much?" She kept saying "no I'm cutting about a quarter of and inch". Now remember my hair!!! Very tight curls !!! Meaning it might look like your cutting very little .. but when you stretch my hair .. it's WAYYYYY Longer. As she's getting towards the front she begins to show me how she's cutting my hair.. and it was exactly as I suspected.. this girl was BUTCHERING MY HAIR.. no questions asked !!! I then asked her if my hair actually needed to be "trimmed" as much as she was trimming it ... this girl tells me "No, actually your ends weren't bad at all!" The hell ?!!!! So you KNEW my hair wasn't that bad off .. yet you still CUT my hair?!! I went home the same day and measured my hair .. the back of my hair now SHOULDER LENGTH, the sides are now EAR LENGTH.. and the front is literally at the TIP OF MY NOSE !!!! My GOD IM SO FURIOUS!!!!!! I would NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE FOR PEOPLE WHO DONT HAVE LOCS.. DO NOT LET THESE PEOPLE TRIM OR CUT YOUR HAIR!!!! I BELIEVE THE OWNER WAS THE LADY WITH THR SHORT SISTER LOCS .. again VERY NICE PEOPLE BUT DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT ANYTHING OTHER THAN LOCS.. I WILL NEVER GO BACK. read more

I agree with some of the reviews given for Danyette that she is knowledgeable and does great work but her time management is horrible and that is why I gave a score of 1 star. This seems to be a pattern with her, I have been going to Danyette for a few years now. Yesterday I had an appt. scheduled for 9:30 a.m. (I have always scheduled my appts. early due to the long wait) I was the first appt, Danyette text me that she would not arrive til 10 a.m. When she arrived she washed my hair and began interlocking about 10:20. At about 12noon she was more than half done with my hair. Another client walked in and a few minutes later Danyette stated to me that because I have so much new growth (I had 8weeks of new growth) that she would not be able to finish my hair. She then proceeded to do the front row of my hair and then told me I had to reschedule. I was so baffled all I could say was "you're gonna stop doing my hair to start another client and have me reschedule." She stated yes because I had too much new growth. I then asked her how much I owed her and she charged me the regular price $95 minus $10 (she stated she had about $10 worth of hair to do)I didn't want any confrontation so I paid her.
