At first my experience here was average. I came here a few times before the most recent with a lady named Kim. I planned on coming in to get my hair done again but decided not to due to some issues she had on her end. She wasn't very polite about the situation and kind of tried shutting down what I wanted to do immediately. When I went in she told me she'd be able to do what I wanted (I even showed her pictures) but when I booked an appointment she texted me asking for details and pretty much said it wouldn't turn out right (which is understandable but don't say you can do something in person and then tell me it won't come out right over the phone 2 weeks later). She even told me to use a certain shampoo to strip the remaining color left in my hair 2 weeks prior to my appointment, leaving it slightly dry. Overall the place is decent I'd maybe try going with a different stylist though ! read more

I LOVE my new hair! I got a perm and cut from JR. Right away made sure I was comfortable by asking if I needed coffee or water. I have really straight stubborn hair and it's hard to grip and do anything with but he somehow got it to work. He was very polite and professional. He was also very flexible and worked past closing times to helped work around my busy work schedule. I have been going to Anthony for over 25 years. He truly is a hair God. I've gone straight to curly, brown to blonde, long to short....he's truly done it all. Even for my special occasions, he has created wonderful updo's that are not traditional, but flirty and fun. Oh did I mention that he's also a makeup artist? Not only does he do glamorous make-up, he's really known for his special effects "Halloween" makeup. Next time on Halloween, stop by the studio, I promise he will have some amazing costume on with fab makeup to match. I've also been to Flor, who is the eyebrow master. She offers threading and tattooing, which I absolutely love, it looks so natural and saves me time in the morning by not penciling in my brows. I met the owner Karen a couple of weeks ago when she brought her dogs to my grooming shop and was knocked out by what an intelligent and professional lady she was. She mentioned that she owned a hair salon and I thought 'oh I have to try that place'. From first to last the experience was so positive. The salon is impeccably cleaned and bright, and the staff was warm and welcoming. My stylist Adrianna was friendly and highly skilled. I had that 'feeling' about the cut even when my hair was wet that it would have that lovely movement when it was dried and I was not disappointed. She is an expert! Well, my mother went in and saw Micheal. I took a few days to write this otherwise my review would be based entirely off heated frustration. My mother has usually always gotten her hair done professionally. She's always had very thick, long dark hair. She always went to one guy in Hawaii (when she lived there) to get get hair lightened, straightened and her grey covered up. She is recently divorced and moved to California and had not gotten her hair done because the guy in Hawaii was always able to do her hair perfectly every time and she feared wasting money on someone else. Plus, divorce had a big effect on her self confidence and she wasn't feeling confident in herself enough to spent money and time on herself. Well, she's lost Some weight, got a perfect job and wad starting to feel confident again so I suggested "treat yourself". Well, even after a few hours and $250 later, my mother's NOT pleased. We will not be returning to Encore because, honestly Micheal did a terrible job. When you pay $250 for a professional job, you should walk out of that salon freaking GLOWING with pride, flipping your beautiful new hair and feeling FABULOUS. In all honesty, we could have achieved there same results from a $2 box of dye from Wal-Mart. I chose Encore for my mother because of the great reviews. We should have went with a more skilled stylists because my poor mother was SO ASHAMED that she had spent so much money, invested so much time and came home with just her greys covered. I would show a before and after but you wouldn't be able to tell the difference AT ALL. Micheal said he did a base color and caramel highlights but we see nothing. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING different other than covered grey hair. We're VERY disappointed. Now my mom's afraid to go to another salon or ANY salon because she's now out $250 and had nothing up show for it. I've never seen my mom so disappointed after a salon visit and it's going to take EVERYTHING to get her to trust anther stylists ever again because Micheal basically betrayed her trust. He's just not what we were going for and I'd avoid him if you could. I don't think he has the skill worth $250. He's more of a Fantastic Sam's type stylist in my option. My mom should have paid at most $50 for the very very minimal amount of change in her hair. Like I said, this isn't a "it's because of her fair" excuse because she's been to her guy in Hawaii with dark thick hair and came out with the lighter, brighter and beautiful hair she likes. Micheal didn't deliver. I'm still mad about it because it was ME who told her "oh this place has great reviews! How get you hair done. You'll feel beautiful" but none of that happened. She's ashamed. I mean, after being divorced and having to leave Hawaii, I really hope we can find a better salon. Please be careful who your stylist is. I didn't see any reviews for Micheal so maybe we should have gone with Anthony or one of the others that received good reviews. However, I seriously don't think we'll be going back to this Salon because they can't be trusted to achieve YOUR hair goals. read more

Whether you are cut shy (like me), or all out cut and color crazy, this place can rock it. Went to see Jessica for a cut that I desperately needed. After all, it had been a while that I had been sporting a "Cousin It". She really took the time to do a consultation, and listen to my needs, wants and also my lifestyle, as to not give me a style that would be high maintenance. (In other words, the days I need to put up my hair for a run or the gym, I can still get my hair up in a ponytail). Jessica was sure to give my tresses a good wash and condition, (and quick, strong scalp massage - which was absolutely delightful). Then, back to the chair! Here a snip, there a snip, everywhere a snip snip. The end result is fabulous, as Jessica's artful cut was just as we discussed. I had sport my old shag for such a long time, I didn't realize how good it felt to finally lighten up the mop on my head, without taking off too much length. (Thanks, Jessica!) I really appreciate her listening to my needs, giving me a style that not only frames my face, but is easily maintained. AND, my hair feels so healthy! Loved my new cut and style from Rosell! I have frizzy processed hair that I flat iron straight and never do very well! Rosell took the time to advise on how to keep my hair healthy and showing me different techniques on how to blow dry correctly to get more out of my flat ironing. I'd used Brazilian blowouts before and it just got to be so expensive for me. If I can get same results for less money then yay!!! I am a trader. My boyfriend's best friend is an amazing hair stylist who just didn't have an open spot to fit me in to get my turning-into-a-bird's-nest hair-cut and somehow styled into something manageable. Looking through Yelp reviews I avoided the cool named salon for one that sounded more traditional. I figured a good hair-cut with a nice suburban mom type person would be better and more relaxing than a good haircut with a salon rumored to be a little stuck up. I was looking on my phone so I didn't take the time to go through the photos just the reviews. The place was a little hard to find because it's tucked away in a tiny corner shopping center but it really played well after the entire experience as being cozy and charming in a rockin kinda way. Thoroughly frazzled from a huge To Do list I walked in with my potential bird's nest of hair as a walk-in. I did call first to see if they could squeeze me in (very friendly on the phone.) First impression walking inside was "this could be a good thing." If you don't like alternative / creative you won't like this place. I love all that is alternative and creative so my first impression was "ohhhh." The receptionist has really pretty dreads (really friendly) and she got the hair stylist who could do my hair (cool cut, great color hair, easy going & really goes for what you want.) If this is your ideal suburban style, you'll love it. First off was the shampooing - felt like I was more with friends then around a bunch of stylists just doing their job. Another stylist was nearby and we all chatted a little as Adriana washed my hair. Background info: I'm not a girly girl who spends time on her hair. In fact I'm the tom boy who gets great compliments from people because I thoroughly brushed my hair vs just making sure most of the tangles are gone so that I don't look like I got out of my straight jacket this morning. Adriana was really great asking me what I wanted and went right to work. She's really easy going and we chatted here & there. I'm not a big talker so I actually felt bad that most of her work was done in silence. So now we're almost done and it's a great cut - very nice, even, shiny & most people would say PERFECT...which to me was a little boring. So I timidly ask Adriana if maybe I could get a little more edgy or professional / stylish messy. She has no problem with that and goes to work in what kinda feels like a (cool) Edward Scissorhands style (seriously, that was cool.) End result: I lost a lot of hair (and weight of hair) which is exactly what I wanted. It's lightweight, looks styled even when I try to mess it up with my fingers and toss it around (chic messy), my boyfriend who LOVES long hair even loves it and the homeless birds who were hoping to hang their feathers in my hair flew away.... My boyfriend and I now have His & Hers hair stylists. read more

Honestly id only ever paid 20 bucks for a hair cut so i wanted to treat myself to a nicer place and a great cut... So I kept thinking it was just me, but i walked out of that salon with uneven hair twice! For a 50 dollar haircut plus tip, its such a slap in the face. I went in with at the shoulder length hair, to an angle bob, then finally just a classic bob but the left side was left longer even after the second time i went back to get it fixed! If the stylist cant see it and do a simple tug of hair to make sure hair is even then I'm obvs at the wrong place. I'd NEVER received such an awful haircut until now. I had to put it up for work because i was so embarrassed! I finally went to the salon down the street and got it fixed. Its true, never trust a girl with wack ass hair to do your own. read more

Actual rating is 4.5. I had my hair permed w/ Adriana. She was friendly and careful with my hair ;) It turned out pretty good. I've had my hair permed multiple times and you don't always get exactly what you want especially w/ perms. The only thing That made it fall short of 5 stars was interior and services and atmosphere. I thought it could do well if it had a more professional ambiance. Also, In terms of services Im used to getting my hair trimmed before my perm but they didn't offer anything like that. I guess it makes sense since I would normally pay about $140-150 for wash, trim, perm, and style. I only payed $85 w/the $25 yelp discount so Im not complaining ! When I first came to Robin I didn't know what to do with my coif. I was wandering between different colors somewhere between a pixie and a lob (layered bob). With Robin's guidance I've gone from dark brown brunette (my natural) to summer highlighted blond and grown my. A rurally curly locks out beautifully. Encore is located in Signal Hill with ample parking, plenty of parking, in a very welcoming salon environment. They're open 7 days a week and are an Aveda Salon but carry different lines for styling and color. I'll be back for a root touch up and keratin treatment in a few weeks!
