We used Black Tie Moving to both pack and move. On Friday August 30th 2024 their 3-man packing team showed up. We had already packed, labeled and separated about half our stuff. Some stuff was staying, some stuff was going to storage, and most was moving to our new house. We walked them through the house and explained what was going where. While the team initially seemed engaged, soon we became concerned by the lack of questions. After all, there was no way they had remembered everything just from our initial walkthrough. They hadn't. Mostly they just didn't care. It quickly became apparent that their only concern was putting stuff in boxes as quickly as possible. (Odd considering we were paying by the hour.) That might not be entirely fair. I do think that the team lead (I forget his name) seemed to do a much better job, than the other two. We only realized just how bad the packing was as we've been unpacking for the past week. One other point about their packing was that they didn't used tape guns. They simply bunch up the tape and pull till it breaks. I didn't think much of it at the time, but as we've been unpacking, we've had several boxes just drop open on the bottom because the tape wasn't well secured. The next day, Saturday, was moving day. This time it was a 4-man, 2-truck team. It was hard work, and the guys worked hard, but the complete lack of care for our stuff was mind blowing. We had a flat-pack desk that needed disassembled. I was assured by both the sales team and the packing team, that the movers would have no problem doing just that. In fact, I was told that their guys are "highly trained." When they started taking apart the desk, they didn't know what a cam-lock was. The ubiquitous fastener used in nearly all flat-back furniture. So, naturally, they destroyed my wife's desk. But, they never mentioned it. We only found out a couple days later when we went to put it back together at the new house. In transit, so many boxes were completely smashed because they piled them so high in the truck. Our storage unit is full of stuff that needs to be at the house and our house is full of stuff that needs to be moved to storage. I will say this. It was a lot of work and the guys worked their asses off. They just didn't care about the customer experience. In their defense, one of the guys said this was his 5th move in a row. He looked exhausted. It's hard to care when you're completely exhausted. I don't blame him for that, I blame management. None of the guys had back support belts, which really surprised me. And they didn't use moving straps. If you've ever seen movers with moving straps, it's a marvel. It makes the job so much easier and safer and quicker. Ultimately, the only "black tie" aspect of the entire service (packing and moving) was the price. It wasn't cheap. We were in a hurry, and I allowed myself to be taken in by the slick marketing. The moving job was left incomplete, forcing us to transport a large number of items ourselves. The movers packed the truck inefficiently, ran out of space, and left behind major items--including two large TVs, glass tables, and large pictures/mirrors. We had to rent an additional truck the next day and rely on friends to move four carloads of remaining belongings. At the new home, the movers struggled to bring furniture inside. We had to remove and reinstall couch legs ourselves. Dressers were carried upside down, causing drawers to jam and shift out of place. Several items were only partially moved, such as a desk moved without its drawers and a recliner moved without its power cord. Because the move was billed hourly, we felt the movers extended the time unnecessarily. A job that should have taken about four hours instead took six--and still wasn't finished. In 2018, the same items were moved in four hours by two movers. Although the workers put in physical effort, they lacked the experience needed to pack and transport items properly. Several belongings were damaged, including a bookcase broken in half and scratches on both nightstands. read more

Terrible decision to choose this company. The sales guy, Chris Hess, made my family and I feel comfortable and that all ended when the job started. Movers showed up late, left early, and take a 90 minute lunch if you don't feed them. They ask for food and candy upon arrival. They send you a dumb text everyday about "how is your move going?" And you call and call, no one cares. They missed my explicit deadline by three days and I paid them to unpack my 90 year mother and I was unpacking her 9 days later. They threw things in the closet as 'unpacking'. They broke 2 items, damaged the elevator at my mom's condo and once they got paid, they desert you. And you must pay in full every day. So you don't have any recourse except to let everyone else know. "Run! From this company. They don't care about you!" And they are the most expensive we encountered. read more

I hate writing negative reviews -- I really do. I know people and companies can have off days, and I never assume my experience defines the whole business. But this situation with Black Tie Moving was so unprofessional, so mishandled from start to finish, that it absolutely deserves to be shared. I scheduled my move for Saturday, September 27th, with an 8-9 a.m. arrival window. The movers didn't show up until after 11 a.m., despite multiple calls to their Operations Coordinator, Dru, who kept assuring me they were on their way. That same morning, Dru told me it would be cheaper to send three movers instead of two -- but never mentioned any actual price change. The lack of transparency was the first red flag. When the movers finally arrived, they smelled strongly of weed. They were polite, but clearly not focused. They misplaced a leg of our couch and claimed they took a 15-minute lunch break, yet they were gone for over an hour. I was only moving 15 minutes away, so in reality the break was closer to 30-45 minutes, not 15. At checkout, the total cost was much higher than expected -- and no one could explain why. What followed was nearly two weeks of me trying to get anyone from the company to call me back. Every time I spoke to someone, I was bounced around between departments. Dru was rude and dismissive, cutting me off repeatedly when I tried to explain what happened. Eventually, my original sales rep, Ben, stepped in -- and to his credit, he was kind and apologetic -- but he couldn't fix what wasn't his area of responsibility. Finally, I spoke with Chris, who I assumed was a manager. He was even worse. He raised his voice at me multiple times, interrupted constantly, and actually said, "What do you want me to do about it?" The complete lack of professionalism and accountability was shocking. In the end, the company offered me a $350 refund -- which I never asked for, and which doesn't even begin to address the wasted time, poor service, and appalling treatment I received. When I followed up, their "customer service" response simply said, "Our records show we sent the check." No apology. No ownership. Nothing. If you value clear communication, professionalism, and respect for your time -- do not hire Black Tie Moving. I've never had to chase a company this hard just to be heard, and the experience from top to bottom was one of the worst I've ever had with any service provider. read more

Black Tie Moving quote based on a phone call describing a pending move a short distance away. July 26th, 2025, We gave them 2 cases of water, tropicana orange juice individual ones , 2 bags powder donuts and a lemon cake slices. For lunch bought $90 for Jersey Mike's . We did not pay attention but we had 4 men 2 trucks. It took them 7 hours to load 2 trucks at $329 a hour.OMG, They were very slow to take 7 hours to just load and not the whole house!!! We had woodworking and Christmas & holiday things to go to storage. By 5:00 pm they were ready to deliver the 2 trucks load! By 6 the came to our new home 17 mins away only took 1 1/2 hrs to unload one truck. They informed us they needed to return the next day and our other truck would be taken an hr a way to be stored for the night. As they had still not loaded the main home completely. Our belongings would have to remain on the trucks that would be taken to their offsite warehouse overnight and they would have to return the next day to finish the job. We had furniture damage . The expectation 1 day job but nope to the inefficiency 4 men we needed to go into another day. When they got to our home to only unload 1 truck they told us they could not unload both trucks too late @ 6 by the time they unloaded this first truck. They were holding our possessions hostage sort of by needing to take them back in to their storage for the night. Forcing them to have to return for another day. They return the following day to unload the 2nd truck from Sat that should have already been unloaded that was packed on Saturday after 7 hours. . Then they finished loading our home but did not realize not all was loaded for mistakingly we life ahead of them to the new home to move a few boxes out of the way. They almost TIPPED the moving truck OVER pulling it into our front lawn over our concrete walk way. ! It was frightening and Timothy a new working refused to drive the truck up through our lawn another guy did. They then returned on Sunday 7-27-2025 for another 7 hours to finish unloading the Saturday's truck and did 1 only 1 more load at our home. They stated they did not feel comfortable moving glass "safety" so left do I thought a shelf from a bakers rack . They brought 3 pcs but left 1. This was not so they actually left 3 other pcs and the top to the table. We did not have them move TV's , Stereo & speakers we had all dressers empty & no lamps were even moved by them ; yet they could not move the things we asked of them. . . They the lead Josh was dishonest at our close out said there was no damages and they only took 15 min break the whole day. Yet they stopped at the store and took 1 hr to get here a 17 min drive on Sat. After they ate Jersey Mike's at our home. We even cleaned up their trash and tipped them at the end. Before we knew what they did to us. Upon returning to my residence we moved out of I found LOTS of items were not moved, and left for us to deal with. Sunday Josh,lead even asked for HARD Mike's Strawberry Lemonade to go when they were given permission to have water and pop if needed . We bought 2 cases of water for them. We were even charging both days a iPhone and even the pad to close out on. My husband said he could have the alcoholic drink but do not get caught. Our moving Cost $5,500 for a move only 17 mins away for a 1,800 sq ft home and we rented a storage unit for we do not have a garage. Shocking this same story with Better Business is exactly like mine from 2023! Identical stories just different people. Many more things were left behind this would only allow me to post 20 pictures. VP Chris , refused to call to discuss until today after my husband stepped in. Willing to settings for us to rent a truck and finish our own move so we thought but with a twist only allowing us $200 the rest is in restitution for damages that they did at .60 lb per item is your compensation they pay out so totally $500 all in is what they want us to agree to. I needed movers last minute to help move my large furniture into a storage unit from my apartment I was leaving. Ive only moved once before using moving companies, so I can't say whether their pricing is on the higher or lower end in Columbus. What I can say is, Aaron and Cam were professional, friendly, and got what I needed done in a timely manner. The entire process from hiring them to getting the move done was very transparent, and any questions I had - they were able to answer. My move was small, and because they do require a minimum of 2 hours to be charged- this is not a recommended option for everyone if you don't have a lot of belongings to be moved to a short distance. As much as I don't enjoy moving, I'd hire them again without question if I ever needed it! Thank you for making my moving process a lot easier :) read more

This company will not take any accountability if one of their employees accidentally leaves tape in your washing machine hose (they put tape in there to ensure no water leakage from my former house to my new home) and then left the tape in the hose when they installed it in my new house. So two hours after moving in had water damage (14k worth), a home insurance claim, displaced from my home for five days, and no accountability or an I'm sorry. That's because per the claims team "their employees are not professional electronic installers so they're not responsible." In addition, they agreed to send somebody out due to the scratches on my stairwell wall, which shocker nobody came and after we were able to return to the home notice two of my dresser drawers are broken/off track and my grill cover is torn. Moving is already stressful so save yourself the extra stress and go with a reputable company that actually takes accountability for their mistakes! read more

We moved early May taking a piano and a few other items to TN house before listing Ohio home. The crew showed up on time but smelled heavily of pot. This was very disturbing given we were having items driven out-of-state. I have waited ample time to see if management would follow-up on solicited feedback and damage they asked upon completion...but nothing. Like others I am sharing so buyers can beware. Long story short - the "red carpet" they laid down was useless. Upon dissembling my piano they tracked mud (it had rained night before) into my familyroom. My whole house carpet was previously professionally cleaned for showings. Thank goodness I still had my portable hand held steamer as it was needed. Lower level wall was GOUGED taking items out. We took most valuables with us in SUV that went down before their truck and that was best move on our end. They left a few items behind that I missed in walk-through as not all was supposed to go but they did things so quickly it did not surprise me. They barely listened or maybe given they were high, they did not remember. Fast forward to arrival in TN. Again, they arrived on time and had 2 locals waiting to assist in the unload. The piano was never put back together correctly, they broke several Riedel wine glasses in an existing cabinet in TN carrying other items into home and comment was "opps!". Nicked walls and wallpaper. No care or attention to detail. Came time for departure and my husband tipped fairly given all we had dealt with and one guy commented, "that's all!". Oh yes, that's all. We will never recommend this company ever. The U haul team we hired to move my daughter to another apartment showed much more care and attention to detail than Black Tie. Management is terrible. Showed up 8 hours late. Ambushed my wife at 11:30pm after moving and forced her to agree to a jacked up price without consulting me. Management routinely hung up on me after trying several times to call and raise the issue. Cost $2000 to move a 2 bedroom apartment 15 minutes down the road. Plus another $1000 in damages that they refused to pay for. The crew did their best having come off another shift, working well over a 16 hour day, so the move took way longer than it needed too because the crew was exhausted. What isn't broken is missing. Enormous mahogany dining table leaf - not delivered. Travertine table top - in 2 pieces. Lamp bases in pieces, collectable porcelains broken to bits . Lamp shades nested without even a piece of paper between them - linings shredded. Hole punched through wall. Nearly every piece of furniture scraped through doorways. Lost a $35,000 desk. And after stating they would NOT move liquids, broke a bottle of red wine in a case, and dragged it across the carpet. Recommended by Real Estate Agent. Makes one wonder why. Service was ok at best, the movers showed up 30 minutes late. Most of furniture has been damaged, especially little things like my kids crib which is very lightweight. Customer service after the appointment has been awful, I've tried calling to get this resolved numerous times and never received a call back. Scheduled a 8:00 move for 2 ninety year old seniors headed to independent living . We called twice the week before to verify everything. They showed up at 4:30pm. Eight hours late! Very little communication from the home office except excuses and promises. Needless to say, the parents were totally stressed . It was bad enough for them to leave their house but then to have to deal with this total disaster. The movers did well and we tipped them accordingly. read more

Where to start. Showed up an hour late, very High and reeking of marijuana. They didn't bring any tools and the only had 5-6 moving blankets. Took them 8 hour to move 60 boxes and 10 pieces of furniture 1.5 miles. We didn't have anything major like couches etc for them to move. Called in another person to help and charged me for him 1/2 way through the move-some how with three it took them the same time to unload as it did load with 2. I am so impressed with this moving company! I felt that their price was fair, they staffed enough people for the job, the staff worked sooooo hard, and truly went above and beyond to make it a pleasant experience. Anytime I had a question or needed helped they dropped everything to help me! I'd say make sure to communicate exactly what you need over any and all prep phone calls so that the movers can prepare in advance (which I did, so no issues). Oh, and for some context I had packed half our house, but not all of it. They even helped pack! Yay! Obviously the more you do the quicker it'll go, but it's not always possible. read more

Well, short review first, Pros: professional, punctual and not expensive Cons: understaff and WILL NEVER COME TO REPAIR THEIR DAMADGES I have full condo heavy furniture and so I asked for home estimate. Chris came immediately and I told him that everything will be moved so I need 6 men. On the moving day, only 5 men came and about half of the time, they started to cry from the heavy furniture (my furniture from Haverty) so they called Kevin, their his that came immediately and brought other guy. If course, they couldn't finish the job and they had to come the other day with 3 men. This is company is good but don't expect that they will repair anything. I texted and emailed Kevin the pictures of the damages and no RESPONSE. I tipped these guys 600$ because I felt they did their job but the company is the problem. Would not use them again. We had a two day move scheduled, one for pack and one for move. We asked for four workers, and they showed up with too few boxes. Their lead hid in the bathroom for a half hour and spent the whole rest of the day packing half the kitchen. In contrast another worker was able to do three rooms upstairs in the same timeframe. Of the six people we worked with over the two days, two were great, two were mediocre, and two were lazy. Their manager, Kevin, came by each day to review and inspect the progress, but the crew largely ignored his instructions. Overall, the move was slow going. They quit early on the pack day, which made the move day almost 12 hours because they had to finish what they didn't do on the first day. On the upside there was minimal damage. Not worth the money. They damaged my wall. Took forever to get a response to get it taken care of. I had to repair it and they sent me money. They did not take into account the time and driving I had to do to fix the wall. The men took tons of breaks and kept goofing off. They were nice and when they worked they did a good job. WORST move we have ever had. Wardrobe boxes bars bent, clothes in bottom of wardrobe boxes (what a mess). It's been over two months since we moved! Boxes where not marked correctly. We have had a lot of moves over the years in Ohio and Florida... THESE PEOPLE ARE THE ABSOLUTE WORST!!!!! They were paid on monday night $3,718.22 and then want us to pay them an additional $4,977.00. In addition they used my debit card without approval! I would not use this moving company! The movers sat in their van over 45 minutes (they credited me a hour) although that was hardly enough as they moved slowly! A neighbor had to come up to my apartment to tell me they were in the truck as I was in a wheelchair. One of the guys was the biggest jerk I ever met. I called the manager and he pretended not to know which guy it was but I found out he is always that way. He should never have sent him to my home. They scratched the walls and complained how long it took, but they moved things one item at a time. I regret using them. They were very expensive. They were supposed to set up my bed and did, but it was wrong. Simply this company is only as good as their staff and the men they use, I would never use again or have in my home. read more

Worst experience I've ever had with a moving company! The sales team was wonderful which is why I used this company over 2 Men and a Truck which was a huge mistake. The movers were given a 10 hour window to move my belongings which included furniture and what have you that I fully disclosed to the sales team. The movers finished at 8.5 hours, refused to put my furniture in the correct rooms, destroyed furniture and left 1/2 of my items at the old home refusing to do a second trip that the sales team advised me they would be capable of doing. I had to extend my U-Haul rental to get everything they left. The movers told me they wanted to see their kids and wanted to go home. They destroyed my grill, master bedroom set, leather couches, walls, my kitchen island and so much more. I hired an extra person and only 2/3 worked there entire time. The 3rd guy was on his phone dropping f'bombs in front of my young child; fighting with who I assumed to be his significant other. They took a lunch break that was at least 4x the 30 minute break they claimed they took. My walls are bashed up, my flooring is destroyed, appliances such as my washer and dryer are not stacked after I specifically asked and showed them where to do so. My boyfriend unloaded the freezer because they wouldn't listen to him about the importance of it being set up right away. It was the most atrocious experience with a company I've ever dealt with. I called to explain the situation and spoke with Victor who was defensive, combative, out right disrespectful and rude. He denied everything. He claimed there was an audio recording of someone from my house stating not to set up furniture. When I asked to listen to it he could not produce it. Because that conversation never took place! He claimed all the damage to my belongings never took place and that it was all preexisting damage as I text him pictures with the damage his company was responsible for. He said he had before pictures, but could not produce them. (Shocker!) When I asked to speak to his supervisor he told me he was the owner. Turns out, another lie, Chris Hess is the owner of Columbus. I've sent numerous emails to Chris Hess, and no reply. This company should be called Black Lies. They lie about services of moving they say they will perform, about calling you back, about their job title and about their resolution process. I was told assembly of furniture would occur, lie. I was told my furniture would be moved even if took two trips, lie. I was told that they would lay out protective covering over my carpet, lie. I don't as told they would put the items in the correct location, lie. They took boxes upstairs that said in bold letters, "basement". Instead, they destroyed my house, left glass to furniture behind, and even made me drive all the way back to the old address because they were so sloppy and left not only my belongings but their iPad, phone chargers and dolly. They promised to replace our Refrigerator but after we paid the $1,000 moving bill their tone changed and only gave us $200 for our refrigerator that needs to be completely replaced. New home was banged up bad by this group of "professionals". Called and spoke with their manager to explain damage to the house (walls, garage door, wood trim on staircase). The manager did not seemed surprised and said I could file a claim, and that it happens all the time. I paid these people to get out of my house! Black Tie Moving Co was phenomenal! We just used them for our move from German Village out to Westerville and from the very beginning stages of the process (obtaining a quote) this company had it together, was very organized, and professional. Their response time was same day, and they leverage a customer portal for potential customers to go in and view their quote. My husband and I have a 7week old baby so it made moving very stressful and challenging and these guys worked around our schedule. We had 3 movers for the day and let me tell you these guys BUSTED THEIR BUTTS (and it was 95 degrees outside). We had wonderful rapport with them and just had an all around great experience. Their prices also cannot be beat. Highly recommend them to anyone need a quality and reliable moving company. read more

By far the worst moving experience we have had. Since the rate is by the hour, the movers love to take their time. We had a crew of three men, and it took 4 and a half hours to move a two bedroom townhouse and the second bedroom only contained a crib (which we disassembled) and a dresser for them to move. We also ensured all furniture was disassembled and ready to go for them and it still took over four hours. I received a call the day before the move where I expressed a concern, and Kevin decided to hang up on me mid sentence. During the move, there were numerous times where the crew was standing out by the truck for 10-15 minutes at a time just talking and hanging out. We said something to the crew, nicely, since we had to pay by the hour, and one crew member decided to get rude with us and he got in my significant others face. They then tried to charge us for the time it took them to take him back to the office because we did not want him in our home after he did that. Not to mention they wrapped the couch "incorrectly" and one guy spent 30 minutes unwrapping and rewrapping it while the other two stood there and did not move a single thing. They also broke the bottom corner off of my pantry cabinet and advised me to "just glue it back on." After moving an item in, they also like to take 5 minutes in their truck folding the moving blanket before continuing to bring your furniture in. Oh, and they also charge an arm and a leg for "packing materials" used to wrap your furniture when it's stated that there are no hidden fees but they never tell you about the packing material fee when you book. This company took advantage of my parents, who are both in their 80's! The company was recommended by the relator; I can only assume that they are getting some kind of kickback considering how bad this company was. Company charged over $35,000 for the move, and then charged an additional $6,000 because they needed an extra day to unpack (which was THEIR fault). The first sign of trouble was that they were unable to get a $25,000 desk out of my dad's upstairs office - I mean, someone got it in there! They had to leave it behind (after the movers broke it anyway by trying to remove a leg that doesn't come off). Nothing was packaged with any kind of care; things were just thrown in boxes with no rhyme or reason; my dad's heart monitor for his pacemaker was dumped into an unlabeled box and it took days to find. Two weeks later and we still haven't found the cords for the TVs. Boxes were left in the wrong rooms, furniture was not fully assembled in many cases - how do they expect my 80+ year old parents to solve these issues? They stacked unwrapped lampshades into boxes with other items, and nearly all of them are bent. Many other items were broken. I've moved many times and I've never seen anything like it. I hired a local moving company with an unpacking service for my parents, and the lady who runs it took pictures of how the boxes were packed and said she is going to use it for training her staff on how NOT to pack items! read more

I hired Black Tie to move us from Powell to Upper Arlington in 2018. Prior to booking, I called three moving companies for quotes, they were the lowest by $400 and based on that we schedule a move with them. Their movers were friendly and professional, but they did break a glass table top during the move and when the move was complete, they informed me that they had underestimated the time required and charge me an extra $400 (the same price as the other quotes I received). Also, I was told someone would be in contact with me about an insurance claim on my broken table, that never happened. I have made multiple attempts to contact them regarding my broken table and no one has ever responded. read more

We were given a quote of $1,500 to $1,800 to move a 2 story home with full basement. We told them we had heavy items such as safes on the 2nd floor and washer/dryer in the basement. We were told it would take approximately 6 hrs to move us. Well, it took over 12 hrs and the cost was over $2,600! The team was not prepared, did not have heavy duty movers, the team consisted of 4 people, 1 guy, Kenny, worked his butt off, the other 2 guys worked well, too, but, the girl on the team was worthless. I had to repeatedly tell her furniture items need to be wrapped. She was not able to lift items. I didn't pay to have someone carry a lamp! The home we moved out of was damaged ... scratches to wood floor and a hole in the drywall. Luckily our home buyer was understanding. We had damage to furniture, broke the leg off of a cabinet coming through the front door and our TV stand was wrenched, now the doors do not close properly. We filled out a claim form twice, they said they never received the first time. The person we emailed was Kevin Holt, he said they would only give us $60 for the broken furniture ... really! And, a person was to contact me about looking at TV stand to see if it can be repaired. It's been weeks ... no reimbursement on the damage nor has the repair person reached out. We reached out to Noah, who we originally booked the move with, 3 times left voice message and he has failed to return our call. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!! read more

I hired Blacktie Moving to move out furniture from an Upper Arlington home to Dublin. The movers were prompt, polite and professional. However an item was taken from our home and we were told to file a police report. Two legs of an entertainment cabinet were broken off. Management were not prompt in returning our calls to resolve these issues. read more

I hired this company for a local move and it was one of the worst moving experiences I have ever experienced. The two guys who showed up at my home on the day of my move, damaged every piece of furniture I had. They broke a framed picture, when I questioned them about the picture they said it must have been left at the old location. Only to find out 2 weeks later that the picture was left of the truck damaged.(they said they didn't know who the picture belonged too) My mattress was damaged as they did not cover any of my furniture as I had requested ,and was assured by the company they would do. I was told to email pictures of the damage to Katie for review, and I have yet to hear from her. Finally after multiple calls I was able to speak with someone who would acknowledge the damages, but it's too late, my furniture is damaged.There was so much damage, I could go on and on with this review. My only warning is please be careful when hiring this company for your move. If you value any of your possessions, I wouldn't use them. The amount of damage was unbelievable read more
