Visiting Beaufort and when inquiring about the best seafood, a couple of locals told to eat at Blackbeard's. Boy, are we glad they did! The seafood was not only fresh and delicious but well presented with the entrees colorfully prepared on the plates. They run the restaurant like a well oiled wheel with the staff making it very efficient. The entire team appears to work well together and respectful of each other. The seasonal entrees and dessert are impressive and seasoned nicely. The sauces accompanying the appetizers and entrees were plentiful-----some establishments only serve some dime-size portions but not Blackbeard's. The outside doesn't look like much , but the food and service here is AMAZING ! i highly recommend the balsamic fig dressing for the salad. it was certainly one of the best salad dressings i've ever had in my 25 years of life lol. Our waitress was so nice and assisted my girlfriend's mom is picking out a meal she would enjoy. Food came out at a wonderful time and we did not have to wait long at all. Appetizer of hush puppies and fried green tomatoes with spicy remoulade sauce was very good. Our waitress was friendly and very knowledgeable and attentive. I had the Blackbeards Moito, delish. The restaurant seemed as if there were quite a few locals there. It's not fancy if that's what you are looking for, very old school. A little sprucing up would be nice but food is so delicious I would definitely eat here again next time I'm in the area. BTW, there is a large room in the back with lots more seating. Went on a late Tuesday afternoon and it was super busy (we had a reservation). Since you are in pirate country it's not surprising that there is a well-done pirate theme. Plenty of seating and our server was great - really took care of us. Excellent local draft beer selection. The food is the star of the show here! We had the daily fresh fish special -s swordfish with collards and a yummy white sauce (outstanding!), Fried oysters and shrimp with sides of field peas and sweet potato casserole (excellent). Blackbeard's is a great local restaurant in Beaufort. We were hoping to sit outside, but it neighbors a fish market that does not smell pleasant, so we sat inside. The decor is great- different Blackbeards and pirates were scattered around the restaurant. We were sat immediately for a party of 5. The hostess and server were super! While we figured out what we were going to order, hush puppies were put on the table. They were yummy. We tried the crab and shrimp dip duo special. It was so good- and filling! Came in with a group of 11 on a Wednesday night and was sat almost immediately. The restaurant wasn't completely full, but it also wasn't empty, so to be sat so quickly was a major win! Our server was so so sweet from the moment she introduced herself to the time we left, so 10/10 to her for her service! (Sorry, can't recall her name) Food came out pretty quickly, but to me the flavors were underwhelming. I had the seafood bisque and fried shrimp platter with seasonal veggies and yams. The seafood bisque was soooo delicious but I wasn't impressed because I didn't get one shrimp nor scallop in my cup, though the description said they were in there. The batter on the fried shrimp had too much of a beer/wheat-y taste for me but the shrimp were a nice size and held the batter well. The yams were my fave. One thing I was sad about is that this place doesn't do anything raw. Being so close to water, all I wanted was some yummy raw oysters, but a friend got them "lightly" steamed and said they were acceptable. read more

I've been to Beaufort several times and somehow missed this gem! It's going on my regular rotation now. My husband had seafood, and I had hamburger steak, and we were both very happy. The portions are big, and our server was sweet and attentive. The pirate decor was a little corny in the best, most fun way. I love they even had themed wallpaper in the bathroom. read more

We have been here a few times when passing thru. Love the local vibe and dinner specials. Service has always been excellent. This past weekend, I ordered the Seafood Bisque, which was to die for. Excellent! Very creamy and loaded with chunky meat. I ordered Stuffed Local Soft Shell Crab! I really love the creamy Ritz ground up cracker finish, super buttery. You really do not see Ritz crackers used much in the south, kind of a New England thing. My wife got the fish and chips, but swapped for a baked potato with a side of okra. I was so skeptical of this place because of the reviews y'all posted! My husband and I are visiting from Santa Barbara, Ca and thought we'd give this a try. I wanted soft shell crab and a local, down home ambiance with good cocktails and fresh seafood. First of all, the service was perfection. I even watched how the servers were interacting with other tables (because y'all were ripping on their service) and they were all stellar. Food, 9/10, service 10/10, ambiance 8/10 (it was early on a Thursday). Don't believe the other reviews, I feel like maybe they were from the dead of summer when this place was slammed?? This locally owned seafood restaurant is the real deal, local hangout and great food. Recently added online reservations make dining out with grandchildren easy. Requested a table on the "stage" with a high chair and booster seat. All was waiting for us. Our server got our drink order and appetizer order in quickly. We ordered the Parmesan grilled clams, crab stuffed soft shell crab and trout fish and chips. Both entrees came with two sides. I chose the grilled fresh green beans and sweet potato casserole. The beans were perfectly cooked and sweet potatoes were topped with a crisp nut topping. The star of the dish was the crabmeat stuffed soft shell crab. The crabmeat stuffing was almost entirely crab with just enough binder to hold it together. The crab was lightly battered and crispy. The aioli sauce was just the right amount. The trout fish and chips was a large perfectly fried serving of fish with fries and coleslaw. Everyone enjoyed their meal. read more

Had a great experience on our first visit here. It was a busy night and we took the last parking spot. We were greeted and seated as soon as we walked in. A server came in just a minute or two and took our drink order and before the drinks got there another server came to introduce herself and let us know she would be taking care of our order when we were ready. Later she made recommendations and we ordered. When the food came everything was fantastic. My wife had fried shrimp and I had hamburger steak. She said it was the best shrimp she has ever had. We have been going to the Crystal Coast for 30 years, but never tried Blackbeard's Grill & Steam Bar. I have to say, we have been missing out. Great food & service during trying times for restaurants. Several of us had their fresh caught grilled fish. The wahoo & sword fish were excellent! They had a great selection which appears to those of us would like fresh local caught fish. Another person had the soft shell crabs which were fried perfectly. One member of the party was tired of seafood & decided on the hamburger steak with gravy. Good choice. The sides were good...fries, fried okra & broccoli. We had a nice experience. I would highly recommend this restaurant & plan to return the next time we are at the Crystal Coast! read more
