While in the area for the Biggest Week I stopped by BlackBerry Corners for dinner 4 times. I had the burger twice, the pizza once and the fish basket once. All were delicious. The pizza was not what I expected. The cheese was on the bottom and there were so many toppings that without the extra cheese on top they didn't stay on because there was so much. So order the extra cheese even if you don't typically. The burgers were juicy and well seasoned. The fish was tender. The sweet potato fries were perfect. The "lifer" pie flavors were good with the rhubarb being my favorite. Service was good although at times we did have to wait extra long for our checks. It's your typical locals hangout until birding week. There is a bar area and a restaurant area. I recommend paying a visit! read more

Came here during BWIAB. The pie was mentioned several times, and since I got a few lifers at the festival, just had to celebrate with "Lifer PIe." I had the German chocolate cake pie, which sounds odd, but was as delicious as everyone said it would be. I also had a burger and it was great. Locals seemed kind to all the weirdo birders LOL. In 1984 I took a job at an ad agency and was given the Toledo Edison Davis Besse account. The best way from downtown was on Williston Road to Route 2. Over the next 35 years I drove by Blackberry Corner's and was curious. I seemed to be always too busy to stop. I had heard stories about the hospitality, the great breakfast, the pizza and the Coney dogs. After meeting a customer in Catawba Island this morning, I decide to take the time to eat at Blackberry Corner's. I met Brenda, the owner and she recommended to Coney's. They were two for five dollars and were excellent. Brenda said that she starts every morning at 3:30 making the pie. And the pie looked fantastic, although I'm trying to avoid sugar. The sausage pizza was sausage with a side of pizza to say the least. Waited a little over an hour to get served and an additional 20 minutes for some of the most mediocre overpriced food in the northwest. Was out birding with my homies and just wanted some nice grub. I was very disappointed. The cherry pie was also a disappointment. Mama Mary or whoever makes the cherry pies should step down immediately. What a fun and surprising, unique take in local pizza. I've heard about this joint for years and was pleased to finally make it in. From the outside Blackberry Corners appears to be a divey joint in an old farmhouse. While it is pretty much just that the interior leaves much to be desired. It's weirdly bright and sparsely decorated with a mish mash of odds and ends that rival between sports bar and homemade cracker barrel ... or something. Some lightning (or less) and a discernible theme would do the place well. But the pizza is pretty solid. We opted for their version of a small supreme and what came out was a treat. The crust is average, thinish and chewy with a nice crisp, but the toppings - while not extravagant - were piled impossibly high and baked on top of the cheese. This allowed everything, sausage and veggies, to retain their integrity and flavor without just getting drowned in cheese grease. It was fresh and refreshing and i highly recommend it! The place also boasts a bevy of homemade pies which are the perfect comfort food follow up to any meal there. We sampled a few and they were all rich and tasty. For what it's worth, drinks are fairly cheap and they have the often coveted but rarely found jalapeño poppers with molten liquid cheddar cheese not just cream cheese. If you are in a wheelchair, this place is not for you. First the ramp to get into the little enclosure is a makeshift ramp with a lip so tall, the wheelchair cannot get over it. If you do make it into the small vestibule, you can't turn your wheelchair around to get up the ramp. The ramp to get in is at such a sharp angle and extremely short. Our wheelchair did not fit on it. PLAN B Able to walk very short distances. Used the walker to get inside, which with the angle of the ramp and the lip in the doorway being so high was a major challenge. Once in, back in the wheelchair to maneuver around. Was seated at a table where there was no room to get the wheelchair to the table. Not one person who worked there offered to help. It was obvious to anyone with eyes that there was a struggle. No offer to be seated at another table which would have accommodated the wheelchair. We left. I do not know how anyone in their right mind approved this as handicap accessible. read more

Stopped here a few weeks ago to grab a quick bite to go. We spent the day at the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge and this was a close option. My wife and I both got the grilled chicken salad. Simple and not over done. We had our pup so couldn't eat inside which was too bad. We liked the decor. Lots of Ohio State football memorabilia. This place used to be a school house many many years ago. They have photos on the wall of what it was. Very cool. This place is a gem. The staff is friendly and courteous. It has a very small town feel. Big Ohio State fans. Doesn't try to be what it isn't. The homemade pies are truly phenomenal. I highly recommend the Sunday morning buffet. All you can eat, all the goodies. When they are busy, it can take some patience, so sit back and enjoy it. Very family friendly. The floors were uneven like a fun house, and it is actually an old schoolhouse. I ordered the lake perch basket, and it was very tasty. A great spot to eat after a long day birding at Magee Marsh. The pizzas are unique and delish...try crushed potato chips as one of the toppers. It will not dissapoint. A large selection of deep fried bar food appetizers, including Rueben Balls with Thousand Island dipping sauce and deep fried chicken gizzards for the curious and familiar. I love that they had Leine Creamy Dark and Yuengling Black and Tan on tap. Plenty of pie selction for dessert. I really wanted a slice of rubarb pie, but I was already stuffed This place has a very local family feel to it. The new owners are solicitous to your needs. They converted the previous taxidermic atmosphere into an overt pep rally for Ohio State. I actually do miss the previous selection of aviary and woodland fauna hanging from the walls. This place is out near The 795, Rt 2 cross. It's the meeting place for all the participants at the end of the Northwest Ohio birding event called the North Coast Open...24 hours of biding competition. My first time eating here was last night and I only checked Yelp today as an afterthought. I had to re-read the negative reviews to make sure that I was reading about the restaurant that I visited. My experience was quite different than some of the other reviewers. Primarily, the place is a tavern out in the countryside and abandon all pretense, ye who enter here. The beer is cold and fresh and the Black & Tan on tap is cheaper by the pitcher than the mug. The decor is 1970s rustic. The pizzas are a one-of-a-kind phenomenon. Creative toppings piled 2-3 inches high are the norm here. I was there with an adult 40 piece concert band that I direct, so we pretty much ordered "one or two or three of everything on the pizza menu." I tried my very first slice of sausage and sauerkraut pizza and it was pretty hip. The veggie pizza was piled high and tasted wonderful. The taco pizza was piled the highest with taco fillings and came with sides of the normal sour cream and salsa accouterments. The meat lovers pizza and the pepperoni and cheese pies were again covered with toppings and surprisingly, not greasy whatsoever. Fine dining this isn't. Just a short drive around the next corner from anywhere it isn't. Fast food this isn't. A Five-Star Experience it isn't. Admittedly, this review is for the last time I was there...some 25-30 years ago! Definitely nostalgic seeing photos of the interior. I remember mounted deer heads and antlers during visits with my family a few decades ago (when we drove down from Michigan to visit my grandpa in Woodville). My eyes would light up when my mom told me we were going to Blackberry Corners. My brother and I loved the table-top video games, and the food was always something I looked forward to. Wayne and Nancy Shadoan were the proprietors then, and, if I recall, Wayne would talk with our family every time we went. I think he knew my grandpa pretty well. Anyway, I am sorry if this review isn't relevant for 2018, but I could not resist. I wish I could give negative stars... AWFUL food. My stomach is still upset over the half-baked pizza I got after 2 FULL HOURS of waiting with hungry kids. The owner clearly didn't care about us because we weren't his regulars. We had to ask twice to get a pitcher of water after an hour and a half of waiting.
