Stopped by here for a quick breakfast before heading out on a trip. Nothing super fancy, but here's the verdict...eggs made perfectly (over easy and medium hard), bacon okay but not very crispy, good home fries, eggs Benedict okay but hollandaise could use more lemon, bread/toast very good, very good coffee, and an almond croissant to die for. This is a review for the Acton location. I went to the restaurant to get a sandwich last month and will not be back!! Admittedly they were closing in about 45 minutes and clearly that's all the staff cared about - getting out of work. I asked the young lady at the counter for her opinion on which sandwich was best and she wasn't willing to offer any suggestions. Since I wasn't going to get any help I decided to stick with a tried-and-true BLT. I asked for non-toasted bread as that's how I prefer it but otherwise it was just a regular BLT. I ordered the sandwich to go - though I had planned on eating there when I went. There was one other couple already eating at a booth when I walked in and I never saw any other customers but clearly the staff wanted out of there for the day and I had already been made to feel like I was inconveniencing them so I took my cue and asked for it to go. When I got home and opened my sandwich I was instantly disappointed and if I didn't know they were already closed I would have gone back there and demanded a refund. I paid $10 for a BLT that consisted of 3 slices of bacon only. And not just bacon but flabby, fatty, and all 3 slices stuck together undercooked bacon. (Even though their menu clearly stated it was 'crispy' bacon!) It was obvious that this bacon had not been cooked long enough at all and seeing how all 3 slices were stuck together no time or consideration had been taken in making the sandwich. Moving on, I did have what appeared to be an entire head of lettuce on my sandwich - perhaps they felt that justified charging me $10 for it. It did come with mayo - which is fine with me but the mayo was only in the very center of the top and bottom slice of bread and not at all spread out. My guess is that a spoon of mayonnaise was plopped onto one slice then the other slice of bread was simply touched to that to try and get the mayo on both slices. Does it really take that long to spread my mayo? At $10 for a take-out sandwich it is one of the most expensive places around and my experience and food didn't justify that price at all. I will not be back and I have already advised my friends, coworkers and family not to bother. For the same, or less, money you can get a much better sandwich and experience at Legends Café, Idylwilde or Nashoba Brook Bakery. It's been a long time since my first disastrous visit and I have a friend who told me they had a yummy panini at Blackbird so I decided I would give them another try. My bad - I should have learned my lesson. I walked in at 3:30 and they close at 4:00. There weren't any other customers in there and the chalkboard menus that hang on the wall were totally blank. (The girl behind the counter explained to me that they were redoing their menus and pointed me to a print copy on the counter behind me.) My friend had recommended their chicken panini so I asked the employee if I could get it without the roasted red peppers and she told me that the grill was off for the day and the kitchen was closing. I pointed out that it was just 3:30 and the hours posted said they don't close until 4:00 and she just said that they were done for the day. So why are you open until 4:00 if you have everything cleaned, off, and shut down at 3:30? What's the point? read more

Went in for breakfast a two weeks ago with hubby and two kids ages 5 and 8. Ordered pancakes for kids and husband had eggs with toast, homefries and sausage. I got eggs benny and requested bacon rather than ham. Took a while to get food but servers were very nice and coffee was hot. Husbands breakfast was good according to him. Kids pancakes were terrible, barely cooked and tasted like raw flour. My eggs benny would have been fine if the bacon hadn't been almost completely raw, that was pretty annoying. Might go back and see how they do for making a sandwich, but I'll give them some time to get organized. I noticed another person waiting AGES to get a breakfast sandwich to go. Worst experience! My husband and I had an appointment in Acton and went to the Blackbird for breakfast. When I placed our order, the cashier informed me it could be a 20 minute wait for food. We got our coffee and proceeded to wait. About 10 minutes after we arrived, another party of 2 received their breakfast but we were still waiting! I went to the counter and complained and was told it would be a few minutes longer. After now waiting more than 30 minutes, we were so disgusted with the other party getting their food after us, we informed the staff person who was bringing out our order (finally!), that we didn't want it and that they blew it! We got a refund and will never go back. read more

This place has what I'm looking for when I want to go out for a quick lunch. Good coffee, sandwiches at a reasonable price, and quality food. It's also nice to pay at the counter so you don't have the overhead of waiting for a waitress or splitting checks with groups. I will be back for more very soon! read more

The food here is really good but the service is unbelievably slow. I've tried to give them multiple chances but each time it's been worse than before. Today I ordered a bagel with egg white, cheese and turkey. After waiting 25 min, I received a bagel with a fried egg, one small slice of turkey and no egg. When I asked 15min in how much longer the answer I received was sorry- they have a lot of orders. Im not going to keep wasting my money giving them more chances and I definitely won't recommend this place to anyone. read more

Ordered breakfast to go for my fiance and I. Colonial breakfast (scambled eggs, home fries, bacon, sausage, pancakes, and tuscan toast), waffle (Belgium waffle with strawberries and a side of sausage), and a lemon poppyseed muffin. Everything was amazing and fair priced. The place was really busy and from what I could see they have a small kitchen but everything came as expected and under 30 minutes. Coffee was also amazing. Very pretty cafe in Acton. Location is great. Food is very good. Nice options. You pay a bit for the food but it's worth it. The sandwiches are heaping full. And just take home what you can't finish and have brunch the next day. They recently changed their menu to give people more options to choose from. Everything I've had there is great - especially the quesadillas! Staff is very nice and helpful. I had questions about still wanting sandwiches from the old menu and they happily accommodated me. I like the place alot and will keep coming back with family and friends. read more

The food and coffee is absolutely phenomenal.. I've never had a bad meal here. The ONLY reason for the 3 stars is the wait time is so so so long. I absolutely love the food here. My only issue is that when I get something Gluten free, there is an up charge fortune bread (which I understand) but my sandwich is significantly smaller than what I would have ordered on the regular menu. I wish that they either gave me enough make this seem worth it, but I was really turned off last time I paid $15 for a sandwich that was half the size of what my husband received and I paid more for it. read more

Went for the first time today and was disappointed. First the prices don't reflect that this is a place with no table service, you even need to bus your own table when finished eating. Then I asked for the farmhouse scramble with all the ingredients well done - which they were not. And coffee refills are an additional expense. The coffee itself was not very good, even though the baristas remade it for me. I am giving this place one star because the owner asked me to move tables, from a booth to a small table for no reason. There were no other customers waiting for a table, and the booth she had me leave from remained empty for 10 minutes until someone sat there, but a different one was open. It was a large hassle to move and I had already wasted 5 dollars on a coffee that I did not enjoy. read more

Wanted to like this place because we live close by. The iced coffee was really good, but that's about it. Ordered a bacon egg and cheese breakfast wrap To go. First of all it took over 10 minutes (there were only a few other people waiting for food), and once we finally asked about our order, she went and grabbed it from the order up spot, and it was cold. I really like this place, but today we waited over 40 minutes for our food. When we inquired about the delay after more than 35 minutes, the staff was quite rude. The food is decent and nothing fancy, but poor service and treatment of customers is not okay. Really pleased to have a quality breakfast/lunch spot in the neighborhood. Cowboy breakfast sandwich is quite good on all bread choices. The place has enough seating but I wonder if they might eventually add more tables to wide open floor space in the middle. On a weekend, you might not get to sit down when you walk in but something normally turns over before you food is ready, so no big deal. Can take 15-20 to get your food served, so speed is a bit leisurely, but not slow and staff is attentive and working. read more

Place has promise.. maybe. I'm vegan so it was nice to see they rolled out a new menu with some slightly more vegan friendly options. Ordered The Nesta, which is the only specifically vegan thing on the menu and it was pretty solid overall. Avocado was pretty under ripe and had to be cut with a knife, but the meal itself was good other than that. Decent portion size too. I would probably visit here weekly if they offered a few more vegan specific things and included some veggie proteins like tofu/seitan or even Impossible/Beyond meat. I think Blackbird suffers a bit from form over function. They're going for a hip, modern aesthetic but the food doesn't really reflect that. My to go order was also packaged in a plastic bag a la the local trashy Chinese spot, which clashes a bit with the hip, fresh, modern vibe. The new menu is a step in the right direction but it's still lacking. I'd love to see some dairy free cream cheese for the bagels(Bagels Plus up the street offers this and they don't even take cards), a vegan breakfast sandwich, vegan pancakes/waffles, a vegan pastry or two, etc. Again, I'd be here at least weekly if I saw more of this. It's easy to do these days and the demand is simply going to continue to increase. Take a cue from Pressed in Burlington, who I'm sure you're not pulling much business away from. I have to say this is one of the best service i have had in any cafe, I happen to go down to this shpping strip alot and wondered how this place was, So i happen to walk in and I didnt know if i had to wait to be seated or if i had to seat myself, I saw a young gentleman cleaning up tables and asked him, he said that i would have to get in line make an order and if you eating to go they will call my name and if it is for here they will assign me a number and they will bring it to my wife and I. We then ordered took our seats and noticed that it felt like a comfortable enviroment, the people that took our orders were very nice and the food arrived hot and fresh, i believe it took 15 minutes or so to recieve my order. there is one reason i didnt give this place five strars and that is although the ladies behind the counter were nice and all, but the only person i saw moving around was the young man, i tried giving him a tip but he said he could not takee it becuase all he is a dish washer that the tips would go to the tip jar, my wife and i were so confused when we told this, how is he just a dishwasher but served us food, informed us and asked us to take plate and bowls off of our table........ well all and all i feel as if the better service would be if it were not just him doing all the running around and if the ladys behind the counter would do a bit more then just talk and laugh. read more
