I have to say this place was so clean when we arrived. The staff was quick and friendly. Food came out fast also. I was there for breakfast and had ham and eggs. Eggs were perfect but all else went south...ham was pressed ham cold cuts. Tossed on the grill and tasted like can ham. Would not be hard to upgrade to something better even if there was a surcharge. The home fries were precook and came out room temp. Every on the diner does the same thing but they are never cold. This place should be able to get this simple task right The worse part was the flatware (believe it or not). They were using old aluminum ware that in my case would make the food taste metallic. This doesn't happen to everyone but since I still have amalgam it will everyone I use 1970s flatware. I am not sure what was up with the spoon (pictured to a good one) but it was rusted or corroded. This was already in the coffee and I saw it when I removed it. Not sure how the server cold not notice this. Doubt if I will be back! read more

A great find! We'll definitely be making this a go to weekend brunch spot. Inside was very clean and they also had a very nice outdoor patio. The service was prompt and friendly and portions the perfect size. Our party each got a different meal - BLT w/onion rings, spinach & feta omelette w/bacon, waffles w/everything and Denver omelette w/ Italian sausage - and everyone loved their meals. Babico's is a cute diner in downtown Maynard. I think it is a fun spot, feels homey, and the staff are super friendly. The food is pretty generic and standard diner food. The prices are reasonable but just be aware it is cash only. The portions are good. I would say salt is low but pretty easy to adjust. The coffee was a tad colder than I like but otherwise alright. Overall, one of the few diners in the area and a nice spot but the food is not anything out of the ordinary. read more

CASH ONLY. We came on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't too busy. We were told we could sit anywhere. Friendly service. Food was average, nothing special. I got the chicken cutlet sandwich. Fries were good and crunchy. I tried some of the buffalo tenders and chocolate chip pancakes and both were average. Bathrooms are strangely short. I'm 5'6 and I was maybe 2 inches from reaching the ceiling. Tons of parking spots. read more

I lived in Maynard for a good chunk of time and had been going to Babico's for years , and would sometimes go alone on weekends off or while waiting for a car repair and they would let me find a seat and very polite , most of the Employees were Portuguese ( between 2010 and 2018) . This past Sunday was a really different experience , was gonna get a nice Brunch after working up an appetite Dog Walking A women maybe In her early 30s..didn't get a name with orange acrylic nails asked " if It was just me ?" , I replied yes as I was about to sit down at my usual empty window seat . She said I'd need to sit in the back near the typically gross bathroom in case a bigger group needed a booth in the front ..it was 2:00 the Restaurant wasn't busy at all , AM rush was done I politely said there was three tables open in the front , if a big group comes I can move and she felt the need to ask " It's just you right ?" again ! and still kept trying to get me to walk to the back of the restaurant . At that point I said I don't feel Welcomed and left , basically if your alone in a restaurant your unimportant according to this Employee , probably wanted a better Tip but still no excuse for that kind of service . It's perfectly normal to want to dine alone sometimes , can catch up on reading , journaling etc , The strawberry waffles are really good but still not worth it. read more

This is a nice, little, hidden diner in down town Maynard. The restaurant is cash only. The menu is pretty much generic diner food with decent prices. The food was good, but some what bland - standard diner food. The bathrooms are comically small, if you're tall - you might hit your head. The food was very good. Apple and cinnamon pancakes and French toast. Had to pay extra for real maple syrup?? Everything was a bit overpriced. Our waitress was terrible. She wasn't sure what kind of orange juice they served. We asked for an extra plate and she stared in bewilderment. She never refilled my coffee (charged $3.25) which I put at the side of table for 20 minutes. The bill came to $48.12. I gave her $60.12 so I would get $12 back so I could then leave a tip. She came back with $11.88. I called her over to let her know why I gave her .12 cents and she told me "sorry that's what the cash register said". read more

Came here to try different breakfast places in the area. A Wednesday morning around 9. Not busy. The staff was welcoming- that was nice. Decent basic menu. Nothing fancy. I ordered eggs over easy with sausage and an English muffin. On the plus side, the English muffin was toasted and not just warmed. On the negative side, both eggs came out broken (but still not too hard so must have been when plating), the sausage was not good. Full of gristly bits. I did not finish them. They are extremely overpriced for the size of the portions that you get their wake staff is terrible they're very rude they only come to the table once when they bring you your food and they don't come back and check on their customers to see if they want more coffee or if everything is okay. This is a really awesome diner. The food is excellent--the bacon is thick and perfectly crispy, which is hard to find. The service is also great, and the ambiance is cheerful. A lot of places try to pretend to be more upscale and mostly just fail, but this place doesn't pretend to be anything but what it is--a great diner--and it really benefits from it. Friendly, Fast & Delicious! Every time I come to Maynard, MA to visit my mom, we always make it a point to come to Babico's Cafe for breakfast! The food is delicious! Never have I gotten anything that I didn't like. They have incredible waffles, pancakes, FRENCH TOAST!, omelets to die for, and much more! I remember going to Babico's when I was 13 and older (when I first moved to Maynard, MA). My mom used to work at the bank next door and while pregnant for my little sister, she was always helped immediately! My mom used to come here for breakfast everyday, and they knew here by name! Every morning they always made sure to have her order ready to go - without here even having to ask! This restaurant has such a great warm family feel! Not many restaurants make me feel like that, but this one does! I love the guys that work and own the place! Love love love coming here, and I really enjoy spending the special time with my mom and making this a tradition we do every time I visit her! Cash only with a traditional diner feel. Sticky tables and all that jazz. I wish I could rate it higher because the server was so sweet. But this has to be THE WORST breakfast I have paid for in a very VERY long time. My "over easy" fried eggs were cold and over medium, the corned beef hash from a can wasn't crispy (and also cold), and the english muffin were meh. I was ravishing after teaching my Zumba Gold Toning at the Senior Center, and decided I couldn't make it home to cook. A quick drive downtown and unfortunately the local Vietnamese was closed. So, we decided to give Babicos a try. My colleague's omelette was COLD, and the diet soda is NOT diet coke... it's the knock off type. I normally will blog a diner based on the pancakes... and this is where my heart sinks even further. Cold and dense served with not butter and fake pancake syrup. Cold eggs, cold and flaccid canned corned beef (that I had asked for well done/crispy) and bad pancakes.... I love to promote locals. I LOVE to give my business to locals. But the food here is tired, and was ill prepared (there were less than 12 people including myself and colleague) one very sweet server, and simply mediocre preparation, cutting corners and not very well executed. I will not be back here, but will make my way through all the breakfast joints in town! read more

Mediocre food, even for a diner. And for a place called Babico's Cafe and Coffee House, the coffee is pretty bad. Nothing seems homemade here - I get the sense that everything is just sitting in the freezer waiting to go into the deep fryer. Burgers are huge in diameter but the patties are thin and well done, and not freshly made. Fried scallops are small and densely breaded like rocks. Onion rings, fries, chicken fingers and mozzarella sticks are all the kind you get in the freezer aisle at the grocery. Breakfast foods are ok - I guess good for when you're too lazy to fry up an egg yourself. It's food, and somebody else heats it for you, and the bill for 11 of us was like $90. Working in Maynard for 7 years, I spent nearly every Friday eating lunch in local establishments. Some had highs and lows, but none, and I mean NONE, were as consistently pleasing as Babico's. While the food isn't anything extraordinary, you have to remember that this is a diner in the first place - and the price is always right. Great fried foods and a solid club sandwich are tops on the lunch list - but you can get awesome breakfast all day. The girls that work there get to know who you are, which is always a nice feeling. Oh, and they are in contention for "best fries in Maynard" - forgot to mention that. Possibly the best feature of this place is their donuts. It used to be called Donutland, in fact. Swing by early in the morning and get the glazed chocolate - it is downright heavenly. A terrific implementation of the classic cake donut. read more

Sometimes, on a beautiful summer day, I like to get on my bike and head out to Maynard for breakfast at this place. The best part is they serve breakfast all day so no matter how late I am, I can still get waffles, pancakes, french toast, or an omelette, with a generous helping of coffee. The interior is done up in Miami Vice fuscia and teal, and it's so pervasive it doesn't really bother you. They have those round padded pedestal stools at the counter and thick thick formica, booths by the windows, and they're just about the right size that as long as you don't hit there at prime time you can score a seat. Both times I've been there I've had decent omelettes, and the breakfast potatoes are fried until crispy on the outside (!) instead of boiled soggy the way most Greek diners serve them up. The coffee isn't stellar but it's hot, comes with plenty of creamers, and gets refilled frequently enough. But have to say, the best thing I noticed... is that on the breakfast menu you can get a waffle with a banana split on top. Dessert in deep cover as breakfast- sheer genius. read more

I definitely wish they made their own homemade hash. That is really a diner/breakfast place barometer for me. I like the old school diner look, with the pink and aqua booths and black and white tile floor. I definitely wish they would give the place a (really) good clean. Overall, the place is fine. My husband and I ate breakfast here early on a Saturday morning, when only us and a few local construction crews occupied the place. We love a cheap diner experience, and had some high (and not unrealistic) hopes that we'd get a decent plate of start-me-up at Babico's. Service was prompt and no frills. Food was subpar. My veggie omelette was rubbery and, much to my surprise, included canned mushrooms. I was also a little taken back that you had the option of just white or wheat toast, which turned out to be very stale.* I would question the baked goods that they sell at the counter. Husband enjoyed the french toast, but was rather put off by the rubbery link sausages. For $10 a plate, we would've liked more options, and some degree of freshness. *Market Basket toast to be exact (absolutely NO offense to Market Basket - any bread that is visably stacked 10 ft high in plain sight of customers begs to be questioned for freshness). read more

Wow, i can't believe i haven't reviewed Babico's already. As far as the regular lunchtime rotation is concerned, Babico's is a once-in-a-long-while spot. Not for any real reason, it's just not that cheap and not that fast. It is deeply peculiar, however. The 'Donutland' mosaic on the wall is awesome (excuse me for a moment while have a Homer Simpson-like reverie as to what Donutland must really look like... sorry where was i?), but the pink and turquoise update to the decor is rough on the eyes. The seating is tough for anyone above 5'10" i suspect (it's quite awkward at 6'4"). The food is at the low, low end of diner-y, in that it generally appears slapdash, a slight bit overcooked, and plain. That said, provided you are in the mood for it, it is the right kind of thing to satisfy that craving for diner-y food. They have generous glasses of Pepsi with free refills, which is nice, too. So i went there today, and now i don't need to for a while. If you'll excuse me, i've got a field of sprinkles to frolic in in Donutland! read more
