I'm writing this review for 3 people. The first person I'm going to shout out is Talia (Tattoo Artist). I had been wanting to get another tattoo for a while now and I found blackbird on yelp, so I just casually walked in. Talia was the one that helped me out, and she was super friendly & helpful! Even though she was busy, she took the time to listen to what I wanted and recommended the best artists for the specific style I wanted. I am pretty impulsive, so I was ready to just book an appointment with her, but she strongly recommended I check out the other artists as well. She could've easily just said "yeah I'll take you" and book the appointment, but she didn't and that was awesome. Mad respect for her. The next person that is contributing to this 5-star review is Lessly (Piercer). I had my ears pierced before, but I let the holes close. Also, I made the foolish mistake of trying to re-pierce them myself a while ago (bad idea), so it created some scar tissue. I went to a different piercer about two years ago and she told me I couldn't re-pierce my ears because I had too much scar tissue. Turns out I really didn't have that much scar tissue, and my ears were still able to get pierced. Lessly was dope! I didn't have an appointment (I was there for a tattoo consultation) and she was very knowledgeable! Highly recommend her Last but not least, Andre (Tattoo Artist that gave me the sickest bicep piece haha!) sealed the deal. I shot him over the ideas for my tattoo + the overall end goal of my sleeve, and he came back with recommendations / suggestions that not only made my idea better, but made me feel like he had my best interest at heart. I got my first tattoo here from Talia, and three piercings from Andre. So so so happy with all their work. I had my piercings done first and was supposed to go for a 4th cartilage but Andre advised to come back another time for it, just because the first three were so close together that it would be hard getting to the rook so close to two fresh piercings...a thoughtful suggestion for my own sake which I appreciated. He took the time to clean up after I bled a lot too. My tattoo design was pretty simple but Talia took her time with it and made sure all the corners were tight and all the lines were clean and solid. Everyone was very kind and patient to answer any questions I had especially since it was my first time under the needle. Alright I'm a little upset for my gf who came by for a piercing today. Shes been wanting her septum for awhile now, and usually I get my work done by Johnny from kokopelli out of Southgate. But being I no longer live close to the area I called this place, since we stopped by one time for a jewelry change and the young girl was so helpful. Today we showed up and the gentlemen andre who was piercing helped us. He was super chill, she signed the waiver, got the jewelry, he set up and both of us went to the back. He took out the clamps, needle, all was well. He aligned the clamp to her nose, had her breathe and pushed the needle through. Now..she was in super pain, i thought it was due to just receiving a normal piercing but when he added the jewelry I noticed right away how low, and close to the edge the piercing was. I'm thinking, this doesn't seem right. I mentioned it to my mom who was waiting in the lobby so she made the comment. The gentlemen said, no this is normal placement, but, I have my septum and where my dude pierced it, it's more higher, in the bulb area of your nose, just above the cartilage. This who thing bothered me so much being the piercings here aren't the cheapest, that I reached out to my homie Johnny at koko and sent this picture that I took asking him if it was placed properly and he advised no. It's extremely wrong being, it can easily be ripped out. Now what is frustrating is that my girl is now going to take it out after spending $60 bucks and has no interest of going through this again because she is tainted from the second traumatic experience getting a piercing. I hate being this person as the dude was nice, but I'd suggest not coming here, if the young girl is not piercing, so the attached photo doesn't happen to you. read more

I got my (o.o) re-pierced after taking them out for 5+ months. I had regretted taking them out but they were constantly irritated. On an impulse, I called and went into Blackbird and was pierced by Lessly. From the start, I felt such at ease with my piercing experience. Lessly had asked how I was feeling, my history with piercings and was mindful throughout the whole process. With every step, Lessly vocalized what she would do before doing it, and checked in regularly to make sure I was comfortable. This is especially helpful for someone like me who has had painful experiences before. While clamping she made sure to apply just as much pressure as needed to stabilize the area without any unnecessary strain. I was originally apprehensive because I was scared for a needle going through old scar tissue in an already sensitive area but my piercing experience with Lessly was SOOO much better than my first. (Which was done by a cishet dude...so I should've known. *I'll save that discourse for another day.) In the week and a half that I've gotten my piercings redone, there has been minimal swelling, bleeding, etc. Just book a session with Lessly, I promise you won't regret it! read more

This 5 star rating is for their piercing by Jose. Thanks Jose! My sister came and got her Labret pierced, and it was quick and easy and she LOVES IT! The vibes inside are very much industrial mixed with some rock n roll. cute. Waited a little to write after the healing process for my sister and she did not get an infection, nor did she have any issues. She did replace the standard ring that was a little too big for her likings with a cute metal she purchased elsewhere...since they did only have a small limited amount of options for her to chose from. I would say that would be my only comment, cuz if they did have a little bit more of a selection I might have gotten something pierced myself. read more

One and a half years after a previous ear piercing gone wrong (done elsewhere), I was finally ready to get my ear lobe re-pierced. Due to my anxiety from the previous experience, I searched yelp for an hour or two trying to find a spot that met my criteria: 5 stars without complaints about the piercings or piercers, and accepts walk-ins. I settled on Blackbird, and I am beyond pleased with my decision. I had first called to make sure they take walk-ins, and the man who answered the phone was friendly and took a moment to inform me that they were only accepting cash or zelle. This was helpful to know in advance. I arrived at the shop and there was one other person waiting for a service. A man out front alerted Leslie that I was there for a piercing. She first had me sign a waiver and checked my ID. Then she so kindly and patiently helped me pick out the right earring for my ear, which was included in the price of the piercing ($35 for a piercing and earring!). She went to the back to set up, and soon after it was time for my ear to be pierced. I am a bit of a perfectionist, so I really appreciated when Leslie took the time to make sure the placement was perfect before moving forward. She never rushed me or made me feel like I was being too particular. The actual piercing was smooth, easy, and came out great! Before I left, Leslie answered all my questions about aftercare and average time it takes to heal. I would definitely recommend coming to her for a relaxed, easy, and skilled piercing experience! read more

Got my 2nd &3rd done! The lady who pierced my ears were amazing. She walked me through everything, she actually cares about her clients! She helped me pick the right piercing, helped me make sure they looked good and everything. She even made sure they were even lol, you'd think that was expected but you'd be surprised most places rlly don't gaf. Lol they even have this aftercare ear wash and she was like lol you can get it cheaper at cvs and rccomended just getting it there to save money. 10/10, definitely coming back!! read more

Got a cartilage, and second lobe piercing, and was very happy about it!! The entire process was super fast, and I'm not even completely sure with everything that happened, haha. Apart from the initial marking of the sport where my piercings would be, the rest of the process zoomed by like it was just a consultation. The piercer was very informative and made sure I didn't have any questions left unanswered! Once I decide on a tattoo, I will definitely consider coming back here to get it done. read more

Asked if they were accepting walk ins yesterday and they asked me a view questions regarding what the tattoo was, where, and how big. When I walked in, I was greeted by Paul. I showed him the text messages and Paul had everything ready, I just filled the waiver and was on my way to my first tattoo. He placed the ink before tattoo was put on but it was a little crooked so he positioned it to be more straight. The tattoo took less then 20 minutes. Paul went over the after-care instructions and I was off. Overall was a splendid experience, especially for a first tattoo ! Paul has also told me he has been tattooing for about 11 years. Would definitely recommend to people to get ink ! read more

This place is awesome. The staff is friendly and they really give you what you ask for. I've been to other places where I get told that the tattoo should be bigger or smaller, etc. That artists here really are interested in what YOU want. I got tattooed by David Leonard. I called ahead to ask if they took walk-ins and he was very friendly and let me know that after 2 p.m he was available. I arrived a little later than that and was told he was out getting food if I wanted to wait. I did and I'm glad I made that choice because my small tat was completed. I could not love it more. I've been going to Big Mike for 6 months and he has done my side piece, my stomache, and both my hands. He's wonderful, funny, soft-spoken, and above all else a great artist. The shop is clean and all the guys are good at listening to what clients want and work with them to bring their tattoo ideas to conception. I've only gotten tattooed by Big Mike but have been around lots of tattoo shops and am very impressed by Blackbird. My aunt and I were getting matching tattoos so we filled out the necessary forms and talked to Tommy, our artist, about the design we wanted. He was so sweet and professional and came out with a few different sizes for us to choose from. My aunt went with a smaller size and I got the next size up. Tommy made sure the placement was perfect and adjusted as needed so we were happy. He did his thing and let us hang out together while we each got our tattoo. I'm so happy with the final result!

Came in for an ear piercing today, was asking for both sides of my helix done. When I asked to get it removed the piercer wasn't nice about it, and said it was "the first time someone hasn't liked it". I was offered for it to be redone but honestly just wanted to leave. Consultation- my artist Carlos was amazing what others said could be done he did and got my vision right by putting it all together . He quickly did the draft then the outline he worked on it till I was satisfied with placement . Shop environment -i can't tell you how amazing the whole experience was . From the front desk making it easy for me to check in and offering me water right away. She quickly got my artist and let him know his appointment was there. All trough the process she kept checking in on everyone there and taking pics and engaging with the customers . All the artist got along excellently and everyone would come up to each other when they got there and said their good bye . Amazing friendly environment just what it should be . Cleanliness - as soon as you walk in you can smell how clean the place is. It's not dingy and dark like other places it smells great and well lit up with some great music and movies playing . Tattoo- Carlos is amazing made me feel comfortable and talked me through the process . Don't let his age fool you he gets down with them quills! He checked on me and made sure if I want to stretch or break we would stop . He totally worked with me as my vision grew and was patient . Over all best tattoo experience I've had .
