I love this place. Every now and then I get a craving for a burger, and theirs are great. The french fries are equally memorable, but the portions are huge! Normally I am actually pretty good at leaving food on my plate when the portions are too big, but I can't seem to stop eating those fries. My wife has tried most of the regular menu items and everything she has had has been very good to excellent, but I just have to order the burger. This is also a great place for weekend breakfasts. Great place, we go often. Cool rock and roll theme and great specials. We go here for lunch a lot, the view from the bar is really nice especially in the fall and winter. Good burger selection, pork wings are really good, and the salads believe it or not are really solid. Tap list isn't huge but it'd well put together. read more

This place has been getting busier and busier as it is a great cozy place to get a bite to eat. The them is the early 70's. Has a wide range of entrées, appetizers, and salads. Great atmosphere. The inside has a groovy 70s theme going on, the patio outside is perfect, especially with the waterfall going. Solid spot for decent pub food. Stand outs were the mussels and the hot dog. If you're there, get the hot dog. Don't even ask any questions. Service was down to earth, friendly and unpretentious. Would be nice to have some more stand outs (such as the dog) on the menu, but what they do, they do well. Will definitely be making this a regular spot. read more

We have been wanting to try this place but somehow forget when it comes time to decide for dinner. I am so glad we didn't forget a few nights ago! We were seated right away and had wonderful, attentive service. The food was amazing. We had the coconut shrimp, a special BLAT sandwich, and a steak and cheese. Our 2 friends and my husband and I ate here last week and I can't even tell you how much we loved the food!! We ordered the lobster roll, flank steak, scallops and a turkey burger. They all came with their delicious fries. There is really nothing I can say that wasn't up to our expectations. Oh yeah....my husband and the other husband had carrot cake and you wouldn't believe the enormous piece you get! And freakin' delicious!!! Love this place. I put a premium on service and this place takes the cake. The waitstaff work EXTREMELY hard; they are always running to get your food served to you ASAP. I get the sense that the employees actually have a sense of pride in what they do and want to be there. They are always funny, enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the area. Very cute place. A little out of the way (which some people might like). The ambiance is spectacular. Quaint and romantic, the bar overlooks a brook with a small waterfall. The food is pub style and they have good drinks. Ordered fried asparagus as an appetizer and a Reuben sandwich with sweet potato fries. Not so good for my figure, but very tasty. Good place for a date, though I met with a friend. Met some locals who were super friendly and joked with them for a good 10 minutes as we were packing up. Ended up at the bar for another drink because we didn't want to leave. Great place! read more

The service is great and the food is even better!! My waiter Zack was the best. The Margaritas were undeniably one of the best I've ever had! The lobster roll special was amazing! The Tex mex egg rolls are fire! And the burger and the chicken wrap I've had it all! I've eaten from here 25 times in the last year and I love this restaurant! The owners are a little off but they're nice, in my opinion and I think they should show their employees a little more appreciation because if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be as frequent a customer. The Blackbird Tavern serves classic pub food. I ordered the black bean burger, which was very good. The burger came with a very flavorful mayo and the burger itself had a lot of favor, slightly spicy. I got it with the side salad, which was a nice size and their blue cheese dressing was awesome. The people next to me ordered nachos and they looked like very good pub nachos, I almost ordered them. There are not a lot of food options in Middlefield, so maybe it's not surprising that there was was a wait on a Saturday night. There is a large area to stand and wait. Their website is super out of date (at least of Nov. 2016). Their prices have gone up and the menu has also changed. read more

This is not the first time we went to this spot. Reminiscent of the 70's and the music as well. The staff are attentive and friendly. During a warmer day I believe their deck is open. The restaurant itself is clean and welcoming. The food, we have eaten there at least a half dozen times, has always been great. They are primarily serving pub food and do have specials which are equally well prepared. We have never had the inconsistent food quality as noted in other posts. The Food is amazing although my experience is limited to just a few items on the menu. I can't seem to go there and say anything except "Dave's Steak and Cheese." To a guy that isn't a stranger to food, this is one of a few items on any menu that I can't get out of my head. There is no better place than Blackbird around here. I have never had a bad experience in two years and 80+ times of going there. I would expect 1 flat beer in that amount of time, but never got one. The service at Blackbird is way above average for a small place. No matter how busy it looks, there is always parking. I have never waited for a table either. As of lately, I am disappointed with the food(mainly the burgers). The past few times I have gone in and ordered a burger, it comes out well done when I ordered medium rare. I would be ok if it were medium....... And it is dry which means they are pressing the crap out of it. You should NOT be pressing the burger. Also asked for a bourbon on the rocks and got whiskey( while I enjoy both, whiskey was not what I was looking for that night). The servers are always friendly and nice and when asked will give you a great recommendation on how they like a certain item on the menu. Hopefully they can correct the issue. read more

Solid joint. Great motif, every food item ever ordered has been a thumbs up, friendly staff, great draught list and cocktails. Fun atmosphere, close to ski resort- I don't ski but you feel as if you're closer to Vermont when that crowd is around and there's snow on the ground. A favorite winter spot, but great when you absolutely refuse to be dissatisfied by trying something new or reputably inconsistent. I found myself at the Blackbird Tavern while meeting some friends who live in the area and I have to say they are very fortunate to have a place like this right in their backyard! The Blackbird is a small-ish bar and restaurant that has a very local and homey feel. Immediately upon entering, you can tell that most of the people inside are regulars. The decor and even the demeanor of the servers echo this homey and neighborhood feel. The Blackbird had a decent selection of beer for a local place, including Dogfish 60 min, and had creative and tasty burgers and sandwiches. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here and would easily join the ranks of those dedicated regulars if I was from the area. Either way, if you are in Middlefield, definitely check this out! read more

Excellent service from the wait service using a tag team approach. No waiting for YOUR waiter to come by. Excellent food, warm atmosphere and nice selection of beer. We had a wonderful dinner there tonight. We did go early in the evening (4:30PM) and I'm glad we did because it fills up fast after 5pm. It's a tiny eclectic place in the middle of nowhere but worth the drive. The waitress knew all the meals and desserts. The food is kind of like sports bar food with a twist. Like the salad I had, butternut squash(baked) w/ mixed (fresh) salad with and polenta croutons. Very nice. The lobster roll was loaded with big lobster pieces and the shoestring fries were crispy and light. The steak was tender inside with a crust on the outside from grilling it. Yum. The desserts...reasonably priced and the key lime pie was more like a light key lime cheese cake, divine. The carrot cake!!!! OMG, 4 layers, chunks of carrot in it and could be split 2 ways and still fill you up. Good decaf coffee after the meal. Tight squeeze for more then groups of 4. Maybe they can set something up for more but I'd call ahead for more then 4. read more

What a bust, again. We have tried the Blackbird in the past without success but wanted to give it another try. Both the service and food was not good. We sat at the bar thinking service would be better and it started well but our water glasses and my beer glass all sat empty for over 10min until a server other than the bartender asked if we needed water refills. I never was asked if I wanted a second beer. Our food was equally disappointing as my steak and cheese was dry and my wife's salmon was a child portion. I've just recently moved to Middlefield and have been to blackbird several times. The food, drinks, and atmosphere are great. However, the past several times I've been whether with family or friends, I have received terrible service from whom I believe to be the female co-owner. It has happened every time she has waited on my guests and me now that she does not introduce herself, is rude, never smiles, and gives the impression that we are a bother to her. She seems to be very friendly and talkative to her "regulars" but could care less about anyone else. I'm very disappointed, as I was excited to have a place like this so close to my new home. A smile, respect, and courtesy go a long way and as a business owner I think she may want to re-consider how she treats EVERYONE who walks into her establishment. read more

J. Timothy's tavern's wings are not that good, once you try the wings here. We had the most AMAZING garlic Parmesan chicken wings, and recommended pig wings. A true mouthwatering sensation! We could have just had that and would have been satisfied, but we had to try more things. The fish and chips were cooked beautifully, and had a great crunch to them; the blackbird tavern burger and horseshoe burger were out of this world, and the duck burger was soo good, it was finished in no time! Shoestring fries - soooo good! And the drinks - ruby red cosmos and mango martini were delicious! To top it all off, we shared a slice of carrot cake. It was the perfect end to a fantastic dinner! We can't say enough about the owners, Ginny and Rob and their daughter, Chloe - So welcoming, and spent time with all of their patrons to make sure everything was up to their standards. Unfortunately, we did not get our waitresses name, but she was fantastic and attentive. You definitely come away feeling like you're part of the family! Excellent family owned tavern. One of those places that you feel appreciated for giving them business (hand shake when you leave) just makes you feel good about spending your money there. Now for the food! I've never had a bad meal, always top notch, huge portions, and they try to make everything homemade. Steak and cheeses are spot on, especially Dave's steak and cheese, Taco salad was huge with a homemade taco bowl, fresh cut fries are excellent, and my favorite is the spicy mango wings. Blackbird is a diamond in the rough. I mean, let's be honest, besides Lyman's Orchard, there is not much reason to go to Middlefield. The menu offers standard American cuisine at a reasonable price-- they have everything from wings and quesadillas to deep-fried hotdogs, burgers (black bean burgers for vegetarians), and ribs. The food is excellent and always consistent. I actually look forward to seeing many of the servers, hosts, and the owner, who is just as welcoming and is often seen working just as hard as his employees. I go there frequently and have never once been disappointed by the food or the service. read more

My bf & I eat out quite often & decided to try out this restaurant after hearing good things about the food. Unforunately we were extremely disappointed w/ the service recieved & didnt even get to sample the food. When we arrived the atmosphere was cool, the back deck was nice & overall it seemed like we'd have a good night. When we got to the bar the bartender was moody & had an attitude. We asked about seasonal beers on tap & her response was quick & rude, stating that they only have sam. We ordered 2 beers & an appetizer, & attepmted to order dinner. I asked questions about some of the choices & did not like the manner in which she answered. We were very appalled w/ the way the bartender treated us. After having our 1st drink & our appetizer, we ordered another round, at which point the bartender said I was drunk & couldn't serve me. I was far from intoxicated (after only having a beer). I honestly feel that the reason I was cut off was because I told her I was offended by her attitude & for her to lose her attitude. It's really unforunate that we didnt get to try the food but after the horrible experience w/ staff, we will never go there again. Maybe the bartender was having a bad day but dont take that out on me. I might have given blackbird a second chance, but I later came to find out that the bartender was actually an owner, which turned me off even more. First impressions & word of mouth are very important when in the hospitality business & they failed. read more
