If I could give zero stars I would. I have given this place more chances than I've wanted. Unfortunately being from the Temecula area i have friends that want to go to Blackbird to try it out, well I've been a good sport and "tried it" several times. Today was the last straw though. When the skinny white guy behind the bar proceeded to physically rip my friend's credit out of her hand from a simple misunderstanding, after I reassured him several times "I will not walk out on our tab". Never have I left Blackbirds without feeling loved! The management team has such an amazing energy and overall attitude. Loretta especially, is such an amazing woman. She has such a deep understanding of the customer & I've never been provided such amazing service. Angela, my favorite bartender has never let me down! I like this place fun atmosphere. Have been multiple times. Brunch here was delicious love the mimosa brunch they kept refilling our carafe service was great. enjoyed a delicious tavern burger. Love that it's open you can enjoy being more inside our outside. Also have been late evening on the weekend it's turned into more of a club atmosphere drinks were just okay to me later at night/club expected more craft drinks/cocktail options more of a larger selection of alcohol choices. Thanks Blackbird Tavern for being a very unpleasant blip in our evening. I hate giving low star reviews, but man did this place take the cake of bad tonight. Two positives; the wait to be seated was significantly shorter than we were told, and the place was really cute! A few bad points; first, our waitress was a.. not very nice. I don't know her name, she seemed pissed and unhappy to be there (her face was mirrored by pretty much all the staff there.) no hello, nor a smile. Sorry you're working on a Saturday night. Our beers were brought out fairly quickly, but we were never asked if we wanted to do another round and our water was never refilled. Our Poutine took forever (~30) and was really salty.. more of our food came another 15 min later, well. To be clear. Of the four entrees we ordered, one came out (the short rib tacos that came with fries) The waitress comes by 5 minutes later sounding sassy and goes to go check on the rest, two more plates show up stiff and cold. The Veggie Gyro was nice and cold and tasteless, the fries were also stiff and-You guessed it-Cold. The fish tacos (cold) were missing their fries. And the Reuben was MIA. We figured it was just taking a little longer.. for whatever reason. Lady comes by and notices food is missing. Finally the Reuben comes out. That plate was hot. Guess they had to remake it. No apologies, a complete lack of customer service. She didn't ask if we needed anything. I don't think we're being needy here, I guess we should've been and we might've gotten our food sooner, drinks refilled and ketchup. Maybe if she spent less time hanging out behind the bar staring at space.. Maybe it was just a bad/slow night? Regardless, won't be back. Stay away. Service was excellent. Short rib fries and Brussels sprouts were excellent (shared a couple of "small plates" although there was nothing small about either one.) Drinks - excellent. Great selection of wines, beer and cider -- and a full bar for those in search of something along those lines. Completely exceeded my expectations. And they have a dog friendly outdoor patio. We are here from out of town......walked in after checking this place earlier in the day was excited to go for a fun evening until this.. we were asked if we needed to be seated and expressed we just wanted to go to the bar. After looking around we asked about getting a table, we were sat and after a few minutes 2 waiters starting arguing over us sitting at a table. We are told we could not be served food and only get drinks, a party of 40 people were coming in. After observing 2 waiters argue and how we were treated, we walked out and will never go back there again. I will not recommend this place to anyone, only tell about my awful experience. A total of 6 of us arrived at blackbird to have a few drinks after having dinner at 1909. There was standing room only at the bar. I went to the hostess and asked if we would be able to sit at 6 of the 15 empty seats that were available near the bar. She informed me that we would not be able to have a server at these tables. I politely agreed and let her know we would walk to the bar when we needed drinks and that we would move if she needed the table. During the hour that we sat drinking and taking, we had 2 different waitresses come to our area and ask us if we needed anything. We declined. They both repeated that no server would be serving our tables, but we could sit there. Not even 20 minutes after the last contact, 2 security guards approached the table and sternly asked to escort me outside so they could speak to me. I felt accosted, so I refused and asked them to speak openly as to whatever the issue was. The security guard got very upset and informed me that we were repeatedly asked to leave and that we were now no longer welcome. This entire exchange threw me off guard. We were finishing our drinks and getting ready to leave as it were. I was offended and asked to speak to the manager. The security guard from Elite Enforcement security solutions company was incredibly rude and aggressive. I again asked to speak to the manger and informed him that I was through talking to him. The waiter assured me that John or Julian the manger and owner would be coming shortly to talk to us. After waiting 20 minutes and having no show of the manager, we needed to leave to get back to home. We decided to leave and contact the manager by phone. When we were headed out the door we asked to have the managers number and the employees names to make a complaint. They all refused to help us. My wife decided to video tape the incident as it was occurring and the security guard proceeded to assault her and hit the phone out of her hand. We decided it was time to leave and call the police. We went out front and awaited help. I have been to many restaurants in this valley and have never had such a strange altercation. I will not stop to let everyone know the level of customer service and will patiently wait to be contacted by the management or owner to resolve this matter. read more

So went to dinner here on Friday night and I was disappointed with their menu, it lacks choices. Once we did order their food was ok. Probably wont be back to eat here. However their redeeming quality was that they do have a dance floor on Friday nights. My friends and I ended up having drinks and a really good time. Have loved patronizing this place regularly for years, but over the past year, it's really gone downhill. Last night was absolutely the worst! Sitting at the bar, our wine came in dirty glasses, covered with nasty-looking watermarks and sticky stems. From our front row seat to the staff's actions, no one seemed concerned about doing a good job or attending to customers. Staff seemed more into themselves than the customers. Cocktails were sloppily mixed, weakly shaken (like a lighter during a rock concert ballad), and dropped in front of patrons like they couldn't care less! A guy next to us questioned the female bartender about his beer not tasting right; she poured herself a taste and replied that it tasted fine to her, but that she wasn't a fan of IPAs anyway, doing nothing to make the issue right with him. We saw another patron return to the bar to complain about his two beers and he too seemed to struggle with the bartender. Once upon a time, staff was incredibly buttoned-up, friendly and started pouring our drinks when they saw us walk in the door. Then good staff started quitting. A couple months ago, the bartender went to the rear patio bar to get a wine we ordered; she never came back. We're gonna take her lead and do the same. read more

Went to Blackbird Tavern on April 30th for our friends birthday. We sat outside on the wood stumps by the fire pits. Next morning we woke up to a horrible rash on the back of our legs and butt. Our friend went to the doctor and low and behold, bug bites! Just like the other reviews! It was an awful experience!!!! Plus it takes too damn long to order a drink, the wine was shitty too. So like everyone else who is a local, my wife and I have been waiting for this place to open. This property has really changed over the last 3 to 4 years or so. A friends daughter went to the soft opening last week and was impressed so when we were in Old Town today we decided to give it a try. We wondered in about 5:00 and took a couple of seats at the bar. We asked the guy who was back there what they have for happy hour and he pretty rudely said that they didn't have a happy hour. We should have known right then but we were there and the place is very trendy and has a very cool atmosphere so we decided to stay for a drink. Strike one was no happy hour, strike 2 was only having craft brews and strike 3 was after looking at the menue and seeing the prices like the $14 burger! We are out of here. The other thing is the lack of personality from the people behind the bar. The aforementioned guy and the obvious rookie girl bartender. A couple came in and also asked about happy hour, was told there is none. The husband asks what beers they have and the bartender told him that they only serve craft brews. The customer wasn't really sure what that meant and asked if they had something like a Miller Lite. The bartender said no and didn't offer any help on anything. They ended up ordering an American Amber at my recommendation and a glass of wine. Tab on 3 drinks was $24! What a joke! The people took their drinks to a table and basically said that they are out after the drink. While we were just about to leave just before 6, 2 other couples came in and once again asked about what they had on happy hour, new bartender just came on duty and says, "I don't think we're having any happy hour tonight." Lady says she saw something on line that says they are so the bartender asks the other bartender and a couple of the servers. They all had different thoughts on the subject. Bartender finally goes to either the Mgr or the Owner and asks him. He grumbles a little bit and says well if it is happy hour it's only for the next 5 minutes and walks away. Original bartender who helped us looks at the new guy and tells him "tell her no, no happy hour tonight!" Customers (remember there are 4 of them) tell him that it says there's one online and if you aren't honoring your online post they are leaving and will not be back. Bartender basically walks them out the door. I couldn't believe it! A new place that just opened walked 4 people out the door and really didn't even care. Wife and I left and I can tell you I will not be rushing back anytime soon. I think another problem I kind of had with the place is that they are trying to be a part of the community but don't offer any beers from any of the local micro brewery's or any local wines from the Temecula Valley. Shame on you Blackbird tavern, your blowing it every way you can. Good luck! I'm thinking we'll see some serious changes over the next few weeks to couple of months or I give them 6 months! My boyfriend, his mother and I were badly chewed up by some nasty bugs out by the fire pit. There is turf out there and it's really nice, but must not be properly cleaned. We were bit so bad, his mom actually had to go to the ER where they told her NUMEROUS people had come in from bites from the same place out by the fire pits and wood stumps. :( when I called to warn them of this, the man who answered sounded bored and didn't seem to care much that people were being injured at this establishment. Also, bar service has always been horrible. I can stand there for 20 minutes without even being acknowledged. I am a bartender and I know how busy it can get and hate to leave bad reviews for bar service, but this time i had too. 4 out of the 4 times we've been here it's been the same way. The style and ambiance of the restaurant is trendy with the wood/metal. Layout is open and spacious. I even like the feel of the unfinished construction and soon to be cinema dining in a corner nook. Gas fireplace. Dj. It's all coming together. Food is pretty good. Jidori chicken had crispy skin and moist breast meat. Perfectly done. My mates like the burger and fries. Salads are big and delicious. Thumbs up on the mussels. Pork rillete is my favorite. I like where the chef is going with this menu. Price point is a little high on some items. But all that won't matter if service is not corrected by properly training their staff. It really took away from the chefs food and dining experience. We practically had to seat ourselves and ask for menus with two hostesses standing at the front door. Our server did not seem to know anything specific about the entrees. Had to request water multiple times. Plates came out in no particular order, some to the wrong table with the servers asking who ordered what, and without place settings. I found a foreign object in my dinner and was given an apology from the manager but no comp for the dish or even an offer to get something else. Drink specials look good on paper but do not execute well for $11. Weak with no seasonal garnish or straw to mix the drink. Beer was served flat so we swapped for another. Service was consistently bad the 2 days we dined there. But we had one great server who stepped in and took care of us towards the end and salvaged our night. Management? Where are you? read more

We had a large group of people for a birthday party and stopped by BlackBirds for a drink. We we're only there about 45 minutes and 5 out of 8 of us in our group are COVERED in bites and rash and hives and welts. I am calling the department of health first thing in the morning. It's very unfortunate because based on the reviews for this place, people have called and complained and warned management about this horrible problem. But obviously nothing has been done. Went here with a bachelorette party, about 15 girls or so. We asked for our check, which they agreed to split. 20 minutes pass by and some man comes over and rudely tells us we need to leave because the dj has to set up. We said we've been trying to leave but we need a check. 15 later still no check and the same man just starts setting up around us. 10 mins later, no checks.. some of us got up to go to the bathroom, take pics, etc.. this fucking idiot removed our chairs while we were gone with our stuff clearly still on the table. We go back to the table and he says "thanks!" Like an asshole. We had no choice but to stand right by the registers where the server was going on 45 mins with no checks. We were physically pushed by other servers trying to move and told to move many times. All we wanted was to pay and leave but couldn't even do that. This place really disgusted me. read more

Not as clean as I would have liked. Food was priced higher than I think it should have been. I didn't care for the bloody mary. I thought bacon infused vodka would only have the essence of bacon, not bits of bacon settled on the bottom...hard for me to get past, couldn't finish all 12 dollars worth. Sunday brunch fare was fair, croissant breakfast sandwich was pretty good, according to the family. Burger looked good, my son liked it. French toast was okay, didn't knock my socks off. Crowd is a weird mix of old and young tourists ... "punk" rock kids...and hip hop crowd. My wife and I stopped here a couple Saturday's ago at about 11:45a. We stood at the front counter for about 5-7 minutes before anyone came to acknowledge us. There were maybe 10 tables people were eating at and plenty of empty tables. The girl that comes to the counter says the kitchen is about 20 minutes 'behind" so it will be about 20 minutes before we can be seated! WTF?? She says we can take a walk and come back in 20 minutes. Then says, "If you leave your cell number I'll call you when a table is ready". I asked if the 30 empty tables were all reserved as I told her no thank you and that we would take our walk and find a friendlier place. Oddest experience I ever had at a restaurant. I want to like this place so bad- the atmosphere is great and it seems like they have all the right ingredients for an amazing restauant/bar, but after visiting 3 times now and consistently getting terrible service Im afraid I'll never return. On my most recent visit, my friend ordered two drinks. The server then brought the check, he signed/paid and I kid you not- received his drinks 24 minutes after the time on his receipt. However, I don't think anything tops the experience I had with the fo hawk bartender. Each time he is rude but on my visit last month he was simply out of control and obviously wasted. As we were trying to order a drink he did a few things that were uncalled for- while bartending he leaned over the bar to take a photo with some girls and fully licked the girls cell phone- he then took another girls credit card as she went to pay, smelled it and complained that there was no cocaine on it- he also started eating while pouring drinks and literally threw fries at the wall. When we were finally served he noticed it was my friends birthday and said that was great and he would get her a shot. She ordered 2 drinks and left a two dollar tip. The bartender poured the shot, put it on the bar, grabbed the receipt- looked at the tip and said "a fucking two dollar tip- no shot", and takes the shot away. And last, we then ask the bartender what his name was because we were going to complain he said "I'm not the black one". Wow- Im just blown away that someone like this would be working at a place like this. I could list other experiences but I think you get the picture and I'm honestly not writing this review to reflect on everyone because there are some other bartenders/servers! I just think there are some Managment issues and its a shame to see a waste of such a great venue. Hopefully they can pull it together and enhance their customer service/staff. read more

I had the Blackbird burger with their salad and brown bag special fries, it was delicious! The homemade ketchup takes some getting use to if you've always had the conventional ketchup, but still good especially with their yummy aioli. It can be quite a wait when you go there weekend nights, so prepare yourself with a load of patience. Other than that, great gourmet food! read more

Oh my gosh. I can only say great things about this place! Friday night we had a HUGE group for my best friend's rehearsal dinner. The food and service is AMAZING! We had a very large group of forty people. All of which ordered all different drinks. Adam was one of our waiters from that night. He and the rest of the staff were fantastic. because of how incredible everything was we came back for Sunday brunch. Again Adam was our server. Can I just say that he has the best personality and made our overall experience awesome. He was on top of drinks, food, checking in at the perfect moments and running several tables. We went here last night. Two couples, two kiddos, outside seating. Everyone loved this place. We sat near the ping pong tables which was a nice little cozy area far enough away from the music to not be drowned out. The band was great, atmosphere perfect, and everyone loved their food(we all ordered burgers, brats, and kids chicken fingers). They did have a kids menu with a variety of kid foods. The kiddos had fun playing in the ping pong area and no one seemed bothered by the presence of well behaved, although energetic, children. We even had one meltdown and between the music and overall chatter no one even noticed. A parents dream! That being said I'd still say it was definitely a fun adult atmosphere. It was just nice to be able to bring the kids without an issue. The menu overall is not super huge, but it's pretty much bar food with an upgraded crafty kick. The craft drinks looked really good but we just got wine and beer. The star of the show was definitely our wait staff. I could kick myself for not getting his name....sorry!!!!....but he was super on it. You definitely made the experience pleasant. Thank you! The idea and look of the place is great...album menus is a cool idea, corn hole and fire pits were neat but the service was awful...it took us 15 minutes before getting drink orders and once we put those in and ordered our food 10 mins after that, our drinks didn't come out until our dinner did. We had to ask more than once for items such as water refills. Two of the hamburgers were undercooked and super pink, and one order that wasn't correct took 30 mins to re make and came out with the checks.
