Only as of recently they've allowed kids to eat here in specific areas. This is great for our family as it opens up opportunities to celebrate family birthdays out at a restaurant! They give you a free meal on your birthday which is so great! We always get the loaded nachos with chicken, and potato skins! Their French onion soup is my son's favourite item on the menu. There's several different areas to dine including private side rooms, a smaller cozy room, a full outdoor patio and the back side room which is dedicated for families. I came for breakfast with the fam, and i felt like this place was missing something It has a great, appealing decor with lots of tvs for sports, but i think it misses the mark with its price point and menu items. Ordered the breakfast taco- 20$. Was a rolled up thin element of egg, salsa and a slice of ham. I was making these in high school . Only finished half because it wasnt very good. My boy ordered the cod fish and chips. He finished them, but i noticed he peeled away alot of excess batter. The eggs and bacon look as expected and i believe the others were content with their choice. Orange juice was mucho watered down. Good food, casual atmosphere, quick and friendly service. Great selection of Canadian pub food from burgers and sandwiches to fish and chips, perogies, and salads. The Baron of Beef (beef dip) is one of the best I have had in a long time. Really good Caesar salad, just the right amount of dressing. Steak and prawns special was delicious too. They serve all day breakfasts and have happy hour specials. It's a busy place that can accommodate fairly large groups. Always a good choice when in Gibsons. read more

Went there for lunch. Covid protocol- the interior is big, you get to choose where you sit. Tables are nicely spaced. They have outdoor seating too. Our server was friendly, wore face mask & carry a personal hand sanitizer on her which I saw her sanitizing her hand before she hands the check to the customers in the next table. We ordered the clam chowder, French onion soup & Barron of beef dip to share. The food was ok, fries were nice & crispy, the beef dip was unfortunately tasteless, I had to season the dip with salt & pepper. French onion soup was a wee bit salty. I suspect the odds on the food are 50/50. We've gone there for 14 years now and I think the food has gone downhill. Most recent meal, a month ago, was ok- no complaints, but about a year ago our meal was about 1 out of 5: partner ordered Asian salad and I got the chicken fettuccine. Service was very slow (server worked hard but they were understaffed) and when the food arrived the salad tasted like noodles soaked in vinegar. The chicken pasta was hot-ish on the outside, lukewarm inside. And sauce was very bland. Clearly sat under the warming lights for far too long. When the server (after the meal) asked how it was I told her, tactfully. She seemed genuinely surprised and I asked her to pass it on to the cooks. This is a nice little pub with great servers and the best pub food! The charcuterie board is very well executed, better than the same-priced "board" at a nearby bistro. Also noteworthy is their delicious French onion soup. I have had zero regrets going to Blackfish. read more

I wish i could give no stars as our experience was horrific.. We had a girls weekend away and rented an Airbnb in Gibsons. Someone had recommended Blackfish Pub for us to visit. We were celebrating 3 birthdays that weekend and there were 5 of us. When we arrived, it was busy so we waited about 30 mins for a table.. We didn't mind to wait if the food and service was good. We finally sat down and ordered drinks and chose our main dishes. When the food came, the one birthday girl had ordered Chicken souvlaki and they brought Chicken pasta instead. The waitress said that rather than wait to redo it while we were all enjoying our meals.. that if she wanted to eat it , it would be complimentary. I mean it was her birthday as well.. so she said ok.. When we were done and asked for the bill, she had been charged for the meal. When asking for the manager to discuss this, a girl I believe to be named Jasmine came to the table and instead of trying to resolve the situation, she spoke condescendingly to us, saying that she could have redone the meal for her and reheated our meals so we ate at the same time?? Like is that a joke? What kind of customer service is this? She is a terrible manager.. I asked for her supervisors name. I don't ever pull a "Karen" but this is unacceptable.. She wrote the name "Kara" on a piece of paper.. and basically told us to leave. We are not 20 year olds.. we are all in our 50's.. And customer service should be a staple in any establishment.. We will be telling everyone about this lack of an "experience" in Gibsons. read more

Halbut taco (hold the taco), was served on a healthy assortment of fresh veggies, and spiced up nicely. My only complaint was the guacamole, which was made with onions in it and I hate those. So I felt a little bunked out of one of my favourite condiments - however I was too hungry / loaded? to gripe. Mr B devoured the beef dip, and the salmon salads were well regarded by my antique dining companions, with leftovers to boot. Generous portions made for great breakfast next morning (except they weren't packed up with any sauces - just my yummy fishmeat and greens). I enjoyed my Persephone Golden Ale, love having local brews! Back next day, sadly the kalamari was mostly batter and not enough tzatziki, but the garlic prawns were a-ok, potatos skins were potato skinnish and they didn't skimp on the cheese, the burger was reportedly decent. I used to be a resident of Gibsons and I don't often make reviews about restaurants but the Blackfish Pub has earned my animosity. Sometime about 6 months ago I visited the coast and I attended the Blackfish Pub for nachos With Friends during a birthday party. The food quality was lacking and the nachos were piled high on the plate with only a thin layer of actual food and cheese on the very top and plain undressed nachos for the rest of the meal. They forgot the guacamole the salsa and the sour cream and when I asked to have the nachos remade properly they teased and made fun of me and said that their chefs know how to do their job and have been making nachos the same way since the restaurant opened. Little do they know I'm a red seal chef with 17 years experience, 6 years of this working in pubs, and it is my professional opinion that their nachos f****** sucked and we wanted ur meal re-made or our money back and they refused, the bar manager taunting me and saying 'okay chef, have a good night chef!'...we ended up leaving and not eating that evening so the blsckfish pub server and management staff that evening absolutely ruined a birthday party celebration!!! Fast forward to last week, when I return to the coast with the absolute love of my life and I'm trying to show her how beautiful and awesome it is here on the Sunshine Coast. We decided that we were going to let our vegetarianism slide for a day and were seeking fish and chips. The Blackfish Pub offered the cheapest fish and chips between three of the most prominent restaurantsin Gibby so we decided to try there. One of our company had forgotten her ID and the server requested that she present it. When she could not do so because her ID was not up to standards the server asked her to leave forcing us into a situation where the three of us wanted to sit down and enjoy a well-deserved meal after a long strenuous journey into a situation where we had to think and contemplate how to go about this. So while we were sitting there trying to figure out how we can all enjoy fish and chips the server returned and once again pressured our friend to leave because she did not have her ID on her. Just for the record she's 22 years of age and her ID was a photocopy but the server refused to accept it. We had two choices at this point, send our friend outside with a to-go order of fish and chips to eat alone in the rain, or all 3 of us leave and find something else/somewhere else to eat. I asked to speak to the restaurant owner, who I KNOW PERSONALLY, and they refused to provide his # or contact him for me...I asked to speak to the manager who was conveniently unavailable... The server then returned and said we were ALL kicked out and would not be served! They said the girl in our party was rude to the server which in fact is bull sh*t and a lie! We didnt end up enjoying fish and chips that night. And considering we are 99% vegetarian and only eat fish once in a blue moon, this was an incredibly BRUTAL experience and i was super offended by the server's comments. Thank godness the Sunshine Coast has a lot more Beautiful Lengths is to offer then pubs because I was trying to persuade her that this might be a place where we could settle down for the rest of our lives and the experience that we had on our first day on the Sunshine Coast, at the Blackfish Pub, put a deep and dark shadow over the entire experience that we have had here on the coast. As somebody who knows a great deal about food on the coast having lived here and being of well-experienced Chef, I would recommend to anyone looking to travel here and have a bite to eat, a pint, or simply a place to chill out and have a good time, that you completely and utterly avoid the Blackfish Pub. Grandma's Pub in lower Gibsons is pretty rad and has a beautiful view in an awesome menu, Smitty's Oyster House is an amazing seafood joint if you're into fish. And my all-time favorite place to eat on the entire Sunshine Coast is the gumbo restaurant in Roberts Creek. It's absolutely magical there. Save yourself your loved ones your family and your friends the grief of trying to go to the Blackfish Pub and having a good time because it will not happen. read more

A weekend away on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. A decent meal. Good service. Boyfriend and I enjoyed the savoury baked Brie to start. Tasty pesto oil, sun-dried tomatoes topped the Brie. A nice crunchy bread to accompany the cheese. We each had steak for dinner, he added prawns on top. Cooked well, seasoned lightly. The seasonal veggies (carrots) were adequate. Overall a good pub meal! Dessert could have been skipped. I can't say that I've ever eaten a chocolate cake that didn't taste like anything. Perhaps a hint of chocolate? If I could give them 0 stars, I would. I live in Gibsons and have visited this pub probably 25+ times in the last 6 years. Tonight I went in with my 27 year old son and his 22 year old girlfriend. We sat down and the server came up and said, Hi, do you all have your IDs? I started to laugh (I'm 62) and told her my son is 27 (almost 28) and his gf is 22. Before leaving the house to go to the pub, my son asked if he needed his wallet and I said, "not unless you're paying for dinner" so he didn't bring it. I explained this to the server and she said, "I'm sorry but you cannot sit here." Incredulously, I asked her if she was serious and she said, "Absolutely if you don't have your ID with you, you cannot sit here." While I intended to order a beer as did my son, his g/f doesn't drink and therefore wasn't going to order any alcohol. She said, "It doesn't matter. Even if you (pointing at me) don't have your ID you cannot sit here." Wow. Talk about stupidity! I wish I looked like I should be checked, but I'm afraid I look EVERY bit 62, and my son looks in his mid 30's. DUH! I told her that is the most asinine I thing I have ever heard from a server and she said, "Well, I don't make the rules." Indeed, but she also doesn't have any common sense. Nevertheless, Blackfish Pub - I will NOT return to your establishment. Ever. I will go back to Grandma's Pub where I am treated properly. You didn't just lose a $80-$100 check tonite, you've lost a long-time, returning customer who will go out of his way to tell everyone he knows about this silliness. Good luck with your business. Definitely a hot and cold experience for us here. We came here twice- Once on the Friday night for a drink and an appy, and then on the Saturday night as a large group for a supper (that we pre-booked well in advance). Friday night went pretty good, and had we not come back, I would have probably left 4 stars. Then came Saturday. From the moment our server walked up it was clear we were an inconvenience. Sighing, her reaction to anything said to her... awesome. Yes, we were a large group, but there was at least a few weeks notice that we were coming, and we are a good natured and cheerful group of people! We didn't let that damper our spirits. Asking for a tv channel change during the breaks (There were two significant sporting events occurring at the same time) also did not impress them, but we did it anyway! My wife and I had heard of the Blackfish Pub from friends who live in the area. It did not disappoint. My wife enjoyed the fish tacos. I enjoyed the ribs with mac'n'cheese. Service is fast and very courteous. Only drawback is we couldn't sit on the patio (our choice) because that is the smoking section. Inside...this restaurant and bar is large. The patrons are obviously enjoying the food and the environment. We recommend it. I hope the management changes the outdoor patio to non-smoking. read more

My first review of anything. I really enjoyed my first and so far, only visit to the Blackfish Pub in Gibsons BC. I had the Blackfish 'Classic Burger' with fries that night, and a nicely chilled sleeve of the cheapest beer they offer. Both the burger and beer were better than I expected. The burger was generous and the meat was cooked perfectly for my taste. Hot, juicy and a little bit of a good mess once all the cheese and hamburger juices started to mix and drip the way only tender meat can. Loved it. read more

Wow cannot believe the rudeness and ignorance of this place. We came from Vancouver to have dinner with our 24 year old son who was on a kayaking trip. He had went to this pub for lunch on his own got a burger fries and a beer. Was not asked for I.D. We returned with him six hours later to have dinner. He was asked for I'd. just had his driver's licence. We told them we were not ordering drinks.they said it didn't matter...so we tried to talk to the waitress..to tell her that we were his parents and could vouch for him..she just walked away and wouldn't even talk to us.she said we have to leave...seriously..wanted to ask if we could order take out...obviously a reversed double standard there...don't get it..really would have understood that he needed 2 pieces of I.d..but to serve him alcohol only hours before ..with nooo i.d. where is your consistency. I had chicken souvlaki and it was terrible. You could totally tell it was frozen meat as it was super watery tasting and tasteless. Even the rice was soggy. It was not cheap, over $15 i think. Amazing! Seriously made the bachelor party. This is one night for our Groom, one night that hopefully he will always remember no matter what happens in the future. I'm not local but had to be in Gibsons for 10 days and found this pub was showing the NFL games. Walked there on 2 weekends to catch my Pats in their December run. At first I thought the price was a bit high for a veggie tray but when it came, I was glad I paid a little more but got very generous portion of fresh, clean, crisp veggies with a good mayo-free, house-made dip. Other time I had breakfast platter special - also very good. Bar guys mixed good drinks and were very helpful in finding the east coast games which were not being broadcast locally (they have a satellite system(?), and putting them on the biggest TV nearest my table. I told the servers upfront that I was really there for the game and they did not make me feel bad for spending 3 hours there watching the game. They came around every once in a while so I could get another drink, order dessert, whatever but they did not hassle me. Service was even really good on Xmas Eve morning - I appreciated them being open and even cheerful that day. Noticed the other reviews weren't so positive and are a bit dated so wanted to add a more current one. Who knows maybe the kitchen staff has changed since then as everything we had was tasty.
