My friend and I came by for dinner and drinks after hiking Mt. Gardner nearby. We came on a Saturday night around 6:30 and it was busy without being too packed. We could choose the section to get seated in, and we opted for the quieter dining area. To start, I ordered the Purple Rain cocktail ($11), while my friend ordered the Snug Cove lager ($6). The Purple Rain was very light and refreshing and easy to drink. My friend enjoyed his lager as well. For food, we shared the Avocado Smash ($16) to start. It's essentially guacamole and chips. I'm a super picky eater and don't like raw onions or cilantro, so I was very pleasantly surprised to see that the guacamole was served with everything added on top instead of already mixed in. That made it much easier for me to pick out just the guacamole while leaving the rest to my friend. More restaurants need to serve guac this way imo! For my main, I went with the English supper ($24) from their specials menu. It comes with roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes, and roasted veggies. I wasn't sure what to expect from this dish, but I was again very pleasantly surprised by how good everything was. The beef was tender and went well with the gravy and Yorkshire pudding. The portions were also very large. Despite doing a long hike right before I coming to the pub, I was not able to finish the entire plate and had to take a third of it home for leftovers. My friend ordered the veggie pizza ($16 for a small) and enjoyed it as well. It was surprisingly large for a small pizza. We were expecting a personal size, but he was full after eating just half. I'd say a small pizza here is good for sharing between two people, especially if you get an appetizer. We chilled here with another round of drinks (Black Lemonade and the Whistler Honey Lager) until it was almost time to get on the ferry. Not a bad way to wait! read more

We came into the pub after hearing it was the only restaurant open on the island when we had the major heat wave. I was a bit apprehensive as I was looking forward to going to another place but boy I think I have a new favorite restaurant on Bowen! I got the rosemary crispy chicken with yam fries and it was 10/10. I didn't expect to actually taste the rosemary but it was so perfectly aromatic and such a unique and different take on a chicken sandwich. The yam fries were absolutely delicious as well and perfectly crispy. The rest of the table also loved their meals notably the fish tacos as well. The two tacos were packed with fish and had the perfect balance of batter and fish. We were also impressed with the service especially since it got to be a bit packed as everyone was seeing shelter from the heat here. The staff was still super on top of things and the hostess (possibly owner) made sure to make very frequent rounds to keep carafes of water filled at the tables at all times. We came to Bowen Island for a day and thought why not visit this pub! Upon entering, the servers weren't too friendly. We were led to our seats and given the menus. It was a busy, gloomy day but the pub was packed! So, we figured the food might be super amazing! I ordered a drink, while my boyfriend ordered a soda. My drink was amazing! They had my favourite gin and mixed it well! Next, the slides came out! Yummyyyy! It was delicious! We ate it up so quick! Then we wanted to order fries, but the staff didn't seem to mind us. We were trying to call staff for 15 minutes but nobody came to help us. Finally, when they did the lady didn't seem to pleased. Part of our party was in the bathroom and they only gave cutlery to the people sitting at the table so we were missing many sets. We asked for more napkins (because of the lack of cutlery sets) which never came. We went the majority of the meal with no napkins because we were not checked up on. The server left the card machine at our table then immediately walked away to take another table's order. When we had trouble with the machine, we could not ask said server because she was at the other table. Thus, we had to input the amount into the card machine ourselves. We arrived just after 2 and waited over 10 minutes for a table... and they weren't busy. The young lady at reception appeared overwhelmed with 3 parties waiting. Or perhaps she was just a few fries short of a happy meal. The waitress was a bit better but had obviously never eaten any of the food. When asked for her opinion as to what was good, her response was to say, "well, most people like..." But I am not most people. "Would you like another beer?" You would think someone would ask the question after I drained my pint. But no... that would actually mean you cared about your customers. I didn't bother asking myself. My husband and I were in Bowen during the week of the heat wave in Vancouver. Besides the amazing food and service they offer daily, this place deserves a HUGE shout out as they were the only restaurant open for dinner on the island with temperatures close to 30 degrees outside. This team served locals and tourists visiting the island that otherwise would have been left with absolutely no options for take out or dining, amazingly as always and accommodating all of those that showed up after their 9pm closing. Me and everybody else (who likes a good drink and a little music) have been waiting for this place to open for a while, well, it has and I finally made it in to check it out. Now resting on the main corner of downtown Bowen Island (just meters from where it used to rest) it's a new, architecturally designed pub that houses a few retail spaces below it and some living quarters above it. It's got a nice outdoor patio area and lots of wood everywhere. I really wanted to like this new pub, but even tho it's new and clean (unlike the old pub), it's just okay, but that has nothing to do with the building it's in. You'd think with a new pub they might try to up their service game to the level of the physical plant, but nope, it's still pretty darn crappy all the way around. With the kind of service they offer, you have to wonder just how long it will even stay clean. Inside it's got lots of room, a pool table, a small bar area with ten or so stools (all filled by regulars) and high ceilings. It's also got a mini stage near the back, opposite the bar area. This is my biggest gripe, whoever designed this didn't know much about acoustics as the last time I went in to hear a local band, the sound was so loud and distorted, I didn't even stay for a drink. There's nothing worse than having a good band playing too loud for the room they are in, that's exactly what was happening this night. I'm sure I'll be back at some point, it's a small island and the new Bowen Pub is one of the few places that have live music, but someone really needs to take another look at how they present bands in there. Acoustics matter. I guess now we all wait for the New Distillery to open and hope that they get it more right than the pub. fingers crossed. read more

Located on the corner, at the first 'big intersection' after you leave the ferry terminal. Small parking lot behind the restaurant, street parking that may require a little hike. The bar area is larger and more open that the table side, which honestly feels a little snug. The staff are so warm and welcoming, the waitress was so engaging and funny and was even willing to warm a bottle for my daughter. This really made the lunch experience great, I wish I had gotten her name but she was working lunch shift on Friday, December 13th! Food was way above board for pub fare. My wife and I share/split two items on from the menu: The Fish (Cod) Tacos were lightly battered and not over cooked, with a perfectly done side of French Fries. The second item was the Rosemary Crispy Chicken with a side of Onion Rings. This sandwich was on soft, warm Focaccia bread and the chicken was juicy and flavourful. There was a tasty slaw directly on the bun, which unfortunately took away any crispiness the Chicken once had, regardless of this, I still really enjoyed it. Those Onion Rings though...top notch! Also had a side of gravy, totally worth it for glutinously dipping the Fries and the Rings into. As per signage, Live Music on weekend evenings. Good for families! read more

The food here was excellent! Much better than you'd expect at a small-town pub and honestly better than lots of places in bigger cities, too! I had the Cobb salad which was really fresh. Loved the addition of pico de gallo instead of cherry tomatoes. Grilled chicken was perfectly cooked. Huge portion, too! Had garlic bread on the side which was delicious and another great-value dish at $3. My friend had the turkey burger which he loved also. There was live music playing while we were there on Friday night. It was a little loud but the performers were good. There's a restaurant side and a pub side, overall lots of seating. This local watering hole is just a quick 5-10 min walk from the ferry. Nice establishment with friendly staff. We ordered the pizza and chicken wings - to go... always nice to take good food to a nearby park to enjoy while on Bowen. Pizza was good... crust was not soggy even after walking to the park. My partner and I stopped in for lunch yesterday. The host was pleasant and sat us. A server came and took our orders and another staff delivered our food. After that, it was very difficult to get any service. My water glass clearly had been a Caesar and had celery salt still stuck to the rim. My partner and had I had to make multiple attempts to get anyone's attention and finally we flagged the host for a new water. We had to wave down the host again for more water as our server never came to our table after taking our orders. The server was interacting and serving other tables so we started to feel frustrated and wondered why we were not getting any service. Our server eventually cleared our plates but we had to wave her down to get the bill. What was our server's name? No idea because they never introduced themselves, asked us how we were, or talked to us until we had paid the bill and were leaving. There are various reasons why my partner and I face discrimination (race, age, etc.) so won't speculate as to why we received this treatment. We have both worked in the food service industry and would never treat anyone this way. We tipped just enough to pay out the house as the food was fine but our overall experience was terrible. read more

This place was great! You could tell that all the locals hang here. I love dive bars like this place. They have a pool table. The bartender was great! He was friendly and really down to earth. He told us to order burgers because the were made in house, and they didn't disappoint. Their burgers tasted like little meatloaf sandwiches with burger toppings. Came here for a visit and watched a game. Tried their hot chicken wings, turkey burger and swiss mushroom cheese burger. They make the best wings and mushroom burger but the turkey burger was just okay. Fries are delicious too. We came back to grab the basic burger and giant burger for the guy to go, while waiting for the ferry. Burgers were good but not as good as the swiss mushroom. Patties were are huge and juicy and left us satisfied. This is the best place in town and especially if you want lunch to go while waiting for the ferry. Service is fast and great. read more

* Solid pub with a nice patio * After a long day of exploring the island what better way to relax than a visit to the local pub? This pub is just a little bit less touristy than Doc Morgan's which is down the block. They had a special on Big Rock Warthog Ale, and it was a nice pint (and reasonably priced as well!). Every day from 4 to 5:30 wings are half price. We got a huge plate of honey garlic wings that was served with blue cheese dressing to dip into. The wings were really nicely prepared and the sauce was flavourful. The ribs were some of the most tender ribs I have had in BC. They were covered in Jack Daniels BBQ sauce. The ribs didn't have the taste of a truly slow smoked rib, but were very tasty nevertheless. They were accompanied by beer battered fries (which were served hot and crispy!) and a salad. The salad was the weakest part of the visit, but who goes to a pub for a salad anyway?!?!?! Overall very solid pub food, with a bunch of local characters chatting about their days. A nice end to the day before catching the water taxi back to Vancouver. read more

Last week we went to the Pub for Mother's Day Brunch. The Brunch was delicious, especially the eggs bennie. We had a lovely time and throughly enjoyed our brunch and the relaxed atmosphere. However when the bill arrived we saw a .95 charge for "dipping sauce" or maybe it was just "sauce"...when we enquired about this, she said that it was for the Frank hot sauce. Really? I said that she should have told us that they charged extra for hot sauce. She just shrugged and said "it's just added on to the bill" and walked away. Really? We would have contested this, but mom was there and we didn't want to ruin her outing. 4 star for the food and 1 star for the service, which is why I'm giving Bowen Island Pub 2 stars. read more

Absolutely delicious! My husband and I had just returned from a sunset tour with Bowen Island Sea Kayaking at 9:30pm on a Sunday, and were starving. We were wet and dirty so decided to take food to go. I'd never eaten here before and was expecting your basic pub fare. The server informed us of a few things on the menu that weren't available as it was late, which wasn't a problem. My husband got wings and truffled parm fries, and I got the Hipster pizza (mozza cheese, roasted garlic, goat cheese, spinach, roasted red peppers and balsamic drizzle). We each had a drink on the patio while we waited. He enjoyed his beer and my vodka cranberry was great. Not too strong with a good amount of cranberry juice. The food took about 15 mins to arrive and our server was super friendly. The atmosphere that night was great; it was about half full and everyone seemed to having a great time. Once we got back to our Airbnb and dove into the food, it far exceeded my expectations! First of all, my 'small' pizza was huge. I ate half and had enough for lunch the next day. It was smothered in delicious toppings and was easily one of the best pizzas I've ever had. The crust was thin and crispy. The truffled parm fries were to die for! I've had these elsewhere and they didn't even come close to how delicious these ones are. It was a large serving and there was a ton of parmesan cheese and herbs on top and throughout.
