By the time I made it into Blackout Haunted House this year (Halloween Haunted House's new name), it was more over-hyped than Y2K. But I soon learned that what is marketed as a haunted house is really more like an extreme psychological experiment... Marshmallow Test, meet the Blackout Test. You won't find any undead creatures or Halloween haunts within the garbage-bagged, jet black walls of Blackout. Instead, you will find situations that exist in real life. THIS is perhaps what makes Blackout most "terrifying." You can always comfort yourself in a scary movie by proclaiming that zombies or ghosts don't exist, but at Blackout, you are watching situations and people that live in the real world's darkest corners. Silver-spooned, cozy New Yorkers... Today, you will finally meet them. And - to top it off - you will play along in their sadistic, sexual, disgusting, insane, adrenaline-pumping games. The most psychological element of Blackout is that the situations themselves are objective. In truth, you are watching a well-rehearsed performance and you are the audience - the only member of the audience (which is a brilliant idea, by the way). It is HOW YOU RESPOND to these performances that reveal your inner psychology. Don't know what scares you? Never feel like anything can scare you? Well pay attention in Blackout - because you will know after. I promise that not every scene or actor will get to you, but there will be a moment when a bag is shoved on your head or you are literally thrown into a disturbing situation and you stop... time almost stops... and you think, "NOW, they've got me." What scares you lies within. You just have to find it. Without spoiling the plot of this twisted show, I will say that I learned a lot about my own fears. While some audience members have felt that being grabbed and shoved around the House made the experience more unnerving, I relaxed into the arms of my captor. For me- it was walking into situations completely confused and alone that made the experience more difficult. The psychological post-game analysis? I like being told what to do. It's decisions that throw me. My sole criticism is that Blackout takes their situations far, but not always far enough. Don't forget... we paid to come here. If the audience only spends 2 minutes in each situation, if it never gets truly uncomfortable, then it doesn't allow for the awkwardness and the confusion which I find truly scary. Vortex: you can be meaner and weirder and sicker with and harder on your guests. We asked for it! This performance is highly recommended not just for the month of October, but for a life-enriching, cool experience. It is certainly unique. Hopefully, if you don't call "safety," you will leave with respect for the production and more importantly, a better understanding of your own fears without having them truly violated.

However for what I did see, Bane knocked it out of the water. The actors were top notch and really played up their characters. The environment was crazy immersive and scary. We watched the Mercy TV count rise as we stood in line and it totally freaked us all out. Once inside, we can hear people screaming from the rooms next to us and it was a cool feeling all around. I'm suped to come back next year and check out Bane with full lighting and I'm excited about their events to come. Oh and yes, people actually get to the front door and yell Mercy, two of my friends chickened out before they even opened the door for us to go in! Good scary job Bane!

We purchased our tickets online in advance, and got to the site pretty easily. We got on line and read the posted rules before walking into the attraction. The attraction itself is pretty creative, with a few things I haven't seen in other haunted houses. But the quitter counter, which displayed the number of guests who quit in fear, made it seem scarier than it actually was. It was honestly a bit too dark in there to see the costumes/makeup of the actors. The majority of the scares were jump scares.

There was no wait and no preambling long speech about rules and such, which I appreciated. Since my friend dropped out last minute, I went alone and had a really fantastic time. If you can go alone, it's wonderful and only increases the tension and heightened surprise around every corner. I've been to many haunted houses and find most of them rather unimpressive or generally not scary at all, but this one managed to get my heart rate up *and* got at least a few jump scares out of me, especially in the first half. It was overall a great thrill ride, especially going in alone, and I really enjoyed the immersion, the commitment of the actors and the detailed, colorful set designs and cool animatronics. There were times I wanted to walk even slower to really take everything in and enjoy it. I spent most of the time laughing with glee and saying to myself "THIS IS DOPE." While the 3D glasses section didn't do much for me (maybe it's just my eyesight, but the effects here looked a bit blurry and not very three-dimensional), that's a minor critique. This haunt is also quite expensive, but in my opinion worth it if you love these kind of immersive experiences, especially of the scary variety. Bonus points for the friendly staff letting me switch my time slot from 7 pm to 11:30 after my friend dropped out with no issue or fuss.

I loved the enthusiasm from all the actors. They were awesome. It was two floors of spooky fun, and tons of jump scares. The 3D Sections was so sick. Loved It! It took about 20min total, which I'm totally fine with. When we got there (Halloween Night), they were running behind which is to be expected. The staff said about 15-20min and took about 20min. You can buy RIP (VIP) tickets to jump the line, but honestly, it went by pretty quick. I think the bad reviews on here are maybe people that shouldn't have gone in the first place. For the caliber of staff and production, it seemed a reasonable price. If you've ever gone to Halloween Horror Nights or the like, this seemed totally on par with those scary events. Loved it and can't wait until next year!

Everyone we encountered who worked there was so nice. Inside Fear Manor was fantastic! So spooky and fun! Lots of jump scares and unexpected things around corners. A creepy girl follows you all the way through which adds to the experience. They also have a very cool swamp effect in one of the rooms that you have to see. It's hard to even explain. You wander from room to room and every one of them is scary and great. The actors are terrific. They even respond to things you say and always stay in character. We didn't have to wait in line very long but even that was enjoyable because there is a creepy DJ playing great music that really sets the mood. An actor even showed up there on a gurney just staring at us while we waited. It was great. All in all we had a wonderful time and will definitely do it again before they close!

You can either purchase tickets online or right at the place. The basic tickets were $60 each. However, the closer you get to Halloween, the ticket prices go up. Upon entry to the Brighton Asylum, there are several people outside, directing you to parking. We went through 3 very cool and fun haunted houses. Actors are dressed in scary costumes. They try to scare you, but will direct you through the haunted house. Visibility can be a little tricky in some areas of the houses. The house has several exits, in case you've "just had enough". It took approximately 1 1/2 hours for the entire visit. Just some cautions for those who have any type of limitations. In one house, there's at least two tunnels you really have to "bend over" and walk through at least 10 to 12 steps. In another house, there's at least three long flights of steps to climb up and down. The facility does have some extras like ax throwing and an escape room which will cost extra money. Definitely recommend the Brighton Asylum for a fun evening! The Brighton Asylum is located at 2 Brighton Rd. off of Van Houten Ave. in the back area.
