What an absolutely fun concept added to the Blacksburg area. It mixed two of my favorite things, science (the theme, anyway) and wine! My husband and I treated ourselves to a mini date night while visiting family, and had a great time. We arrived early and had no issues finding a table, but it did fill up more as the night progressed. We started by sharing a Malbec flight, served in mini beakers. We really enjoyed one of the wines, so we decided to buy the bottle. We didn't have any food since we had eaten beforehand, but all the food served around us looked amazing. I had to hunt for some dinner on my last night in VA after a Qualtrax conference...Yelp did not steer me wrong! I got the Captain's chair wine flight : Faively Bourgogne, ***Ostatu Rioja Reserva*** and Aivalis La Sang De La Pierre, and a grilled cheese with 'nduja, and salad ...sooo good! Finished with the chocolate sampler, which was wonderful with the last of my wine. And then... I had to try the Porter's cherry vanilla cider, which sadly smelled better than it tasted. What a great find! We were visiting the area and didn't see it in it's school-year glory, since it was July, but that made it much easier to feel safe in Covid-times. We came right after a big storm rolled through, so nobody was outside, but it looked nice. We chose to sit at one of the high top tables with the bench seating, which we really liked. We knew we had to order the baked brie after reading the other reviews, and it was beyond our expectations! We also got the marcona almonds which went really well with our drinks. I had wine and he had the cider, which he really liked (Cider at a wine place? Impressed that they had it!) Cool that they use beakers and other science equipment to follow the theme of a lab. Friendly, attentive, masked service. Note: We had a bit of trouble finding it since they recently moved, and road out front was closed for construction, but we called and figured out to park in the parking garage near by and walk over. We visit Blacksburg frequently and were looking for somewhere that would be good for some in our group that just wanted a little something while some were pretty hungry. We all wanted a nice drink! The Blacksburg Wine Lab was perfect! The oysters were shucked to order and delicious, the seafood tins were yummy and fun, and cheese plate was beautifully presented! Those who were really hungry had awesome sandwhiches. And terrific wines, flights to try along with pairings were perfect for a fun evening! Blacksburg Wine Lab is without a doubt my favorite business in Blacksburg. As a huge lover of red wines (especially unusual ones), I've struggled with the limited selection at both restaurants and stores in the NRV. I fell in love with Wine Lab my first visit when I saw their extensive wine list, which you can grab by the glass or bottle. The prices really aren't bad, especially considering the quality of the wines! The atmosphere is very warm and cozy and the wait staff are super friendly and great at advising drink choices. They also have a great selection of tasty meat and cheese boards if you want a snack in addition to delicious entree and dessert options. If you like wine (or want to learn what you like) I would highly recommend a visit! read more

I absolutely fell in love with the Blacksburg Wine Lab when I visited VT for a conference my sorority was having. So many people told me about this awesome wine / bar place that was created by a beloved professor and when I heard wine and walking distance from the schools campus, I was so on board! The atmosphere of this place is so trendy and aesthetic! It was kind of crowded when I went but we were able to sit down immediately and it was so refreshing to see a place that was liked by all sorts of people. There were a mixture of younger people and older people, friends catching up, or a place to go to after work, just a very good welcoming vibe. The waitress was so helpful with pairing food to wines and recommending delicious drinks all over. If I'm ever in the area again, you can definitely count on me to be back here! read more

Very cool concept in there but sadly did not get everything I order not to mention how hard it was to order anything at all kept having to go up to the counter to order and everything we did get took forever to come out ended up spending like 3 hr her just waiting and still did not get everything we ordered. I really like this place! It's funky, I love the decorations, and the wait staff is prompt, professional, and quick. They have tons of options to mix and match whatever you want, or you can get something pre-made. Even if you don't really like wine, they have wine to recommend for you to try (and you'll like it!). It's really neat in here, I especially love the erlenmeyer flasks and the lighting. I have to say, though, it's a bit annoying to have a surcharge for paying with card, so we have to remember to draw out cash before arriving, but that's okay! Just went here with a group of 7 for dinner on a Saturday evening. I emailed ahead, because I wasn't sure how busy they get, but there were plenty of open seats and we chose to sit on the back patio. We ordered some of the dip plates, the pimento cheese, and the smoked fish were big hits. As for the meat and cheese boards, they are very heavy handed on the meat which was great for my bf, but I didn't get that much cheese. The spicy tasso ham sandwich was really good. Half of our group ordered the local cider they had and they loved it. I tried some sauvignon blanc and a rose, both on draft, and they were tasty. I would go back if I was in the area. read more

While visiting some friends, we decided to try the Wine Lab. Once we entered, we were pleasantly surprised. It was clean and well decorated. There were two other tables, but the noise level was at a minimum. Even after a few other tables filled up, it never got too rowdy. There are plenty of wines to choose from, which are hand picked by a professor who teaching at VT. You can also take the bottles home if you don't finish them, so no pressure in ordering too much! Having been to Blacksburg a few times, I think this is a great addition. I definitely plan on going back when I am in town. read more

Stopped by the Wine Lab because the bright string lights were enticing and I was shocked to learn they just opened. I was immediately greeted by really nice bartenders and I ordered the cheapest wine (I'm a poor college student) and they noticed my struggles and offered me an extra glass of wine on the House and a free inaugural glass exclusively for week 1 customers. John was outstanding and fun to chat with and the white he recommended for me was phenomenal. Would recommend for wine enthusiast and people looking to explore a hand curated menu of fantastic wines. Also they're sandwiches smelled AMAZING and they have a dope selection of starters to share with friends. Visited the Blacksburg Wine Lab on Friday with some friends and it was a great experience, especially considering they just opened! They were very busy, but we were served quickly. All customers self-seat, which I liked since the place has both couches and tables. They also have an outdoor area where you can sit. Fun hip joint to hang with your buddies and people watch. Chances are, you'll know at least a third of the patrons. Food is nosh only so eat before you go. The Aperol Spritz is my favorite. The owner, who is a notorious professor at Virginia Tech, comes in every now and again. He's becoming less social but he's fun to watch. He's got a good thing going. Disappointing evening at the Wine Lab. I've eaten here before and have enjoyed the food - but tonight was a real letdown. We chose to eat outside because of virus concerns. While we were sitting outside in the cold, a person came out and took in a gas tank that would have been helpful to fuel the fire pit that we saw behind us on the way out. At one point there was a drizzle but no one thought to put up the umbrellas to shelter the table. They even had a VERY limited tea selection (2!) to help warm up my dining companion. Was looking for something classy and quiet in Blacksburg and I found it. This place is great! Obviously there's a great wine selection and the food was phenomenal. I grabbed the "pick three" charcuterie board, priced at $17, and it came with so much more than I expected. Pickled veggies, honey, mustard, and some other relishes plus an assortment of bread... it was honestly a steal compared to the boards I've had in my city. My friend and I were really excited about this place opening. But we went there last night, only to be abandoned by our waitress after she brought us one flight. We waited half an hour hoping to at least get water, and she was serving nearby tables but just never came for us. Finally my friend paid up front and we went to 622 North instead. The wine lab is cute and I like the layout, though the lighting is too bright for the higher tables. Food offerings were lackluster--overpriced, lots of things in cans, and our waitress said she thought they did the brick oven pizza maybe once a month and it might be on their Instagram but she didn't think there was any other way to find out. The three wines in our flight were okay but nothing special. I wish we could have tried more because their selection was so good. read more

We came here for Easter brunch and everything exceeded our expectations. First- the presentation was great. The food looked so good that my daughter took a bunch of pics to post. Second- the taste... we all got different meals and it was all amazing. Eggs benedict, french toast, lobster roll, cinammon roll and potatoes- all amazing! Absolutely fantastic. Our family ate here on a stop from DC to Asheville while we were staying at the Marriott residence Inn, which is about a 10-minute walk away. The food was fantastic, and the wine choices were off the charts. They even had a wine from Colorado! The service was awesome, and they also have wines you can buy to take home, which we did. Fun place for drinks and tapas/snacks! We were missing wine bars and tapas places that DC and NYC have to offer and were pleasantly surprised. We enjoyed a red and white wine flight and each got glasses based on our waitresses recommendation. LOVED that they had oysters - and they tasted fresh and were prepared nicely. We got a few meats and cheeses and they did a nice job adding other dips/pickled items to the board. Sitting outside was super pleasant and the inside is nice as well (local art and tons of bottles).
