Took a deer here for processing and it was the single most expensive processed venison of my life. When I called for the price was quoted one price, but when I came in to pick it up, it was $135 higher. They had forgotten to include the processing price in with all the other charges for a deer +$400!!! This wasn't a case where you pay for quality either! The quality is just okay, and not at all justifying the price. I only came here because GotDeerDown smokehouse didn't have their trailer pickup this year. I won't be back. The venison sticks and summer sausage are sub-par. This seemed like amateur-hour. All together I could have bought half a hog and all the cuts for cheaper. Not good at all. I literally would have driven to Rockford to avoid this, and even with the high cost of gas, 2 round trips would have been cheaper and better quality cuts, grinds and sausage read more

Blackwing Quality Meats has a really nice selection of meats. We like that the grass fed meats are 100% grass fed and finished. They also do not give the grass fed animals chemicals or vaccines; so they are naturally raised. read more

The order process, shipping and all that was first rate. Product arrived cold to Texas. The only problem is that the kangaroo meat has little pieces of bone in it. I made some awesome kangaroo/chocolate chile and, though it tasted great, the little pieces of bone kind of made it not-so-great. I won't be ordering from them again. I've only eaten tail meat before. This said it was from the leg, which I've not heard of, and they did not mention in the product description. read more

I ordered a Boneless rib roast, from Blackwing Meats, confirmed by both email and the sticker on the package that I received. What I got, was a bone-in rib roast: about $40 less (but was charged for the boneless) . I didn't realize it, until I took it out to cook on Christmas day, as it had been frozen/defrosting. I emailed customer service, the day after Christmas, and to date 1/2/2022, I have gotten no reply. I would not recommend this company at all. read more

I ordered two pheasants and a venison strip loin for Thanksgiving on November 5th. After one full week of the order still being listed as "processing," I called and spoke to someone who assured me it would ship out the next day. At the end of that week, with no shipping notification and the order still listed as "processing," I called again and was assured it would be labeled as a priority and ship out and arrive the day before Thanksgiving. Two days before Thanksgiving, 17 days after the order was placed, I had to call again and was informed that it had not shipped. They might have good products, but I will never know because I will never attempt to do business with them ever again. read more

Order arrived significantly short on weight (8.2 pounds on a 9-12 pound order). Had to call for reimbursement, and it was revealed that they knew they'd shorted me (no one ever reached out). I was reimbursed up to the minimal weight in the range. In short, if you order from here check your weights, realize that 3-4 pounds means they'll provide less than that or compensation equal to the three. (No shipping compensation was offered.) This was likely a fine business model a few years ago, and I get that meat isn't exacting in weight, but with an abundance of customer-focused meat purveyors online these days I'll shop elsewhere. read more

Although Blackwing Quality Meats is a frontrunner in healthy alternatives, I would never purchase from them. They are at Expo East every year and Roger has such a bad attitude that I would not buy anything from their company. At the last show, he complained so much and said that he didn't know why he continued to come to the show! As healthy meats have historically been hard to find, Blackwing was an interesting alternative. But I have reconsidered ever buying from Blackwing since their mojo is so negative. There are so many competitors now and grassfed meat is available locally in quite a few stores. I was VERY excited after hearing such good feedback from family & friends regarding this company. After placing my order on Dec 11 and being now December 21 and my order has not been shipped I fully understand being a winter storm just took place. I called in spoke with whomever answers the phone. After ordering close to 300 bucks of meat I was spoken to as rude as I can recall! The receptionist was yelling and placing the call on hold at any given moment while I would even speak. I understand it's a pandemic and you may think nobody is watching h your actions but CUSTOMER service should always play a part in the running of businesses. The receptionist stated her "friend" Beth Cathleen" would give me a call to hear a complaint. I'm disappointed and saddened as I would have wanted the same experience as I was told you guys give. Ordered on a holiday weekend and received my venison and ostrich a few days later frozen solid, packed in a large box with dry ice. The checkout process was simple, the items appear and weigh as described on the website. I especially appreciate that the venison steaks came individually wrapped, frozen in blood, and with the nutrition facts attached. Nutrition facts can be found on their website for most or all of the products as well, which is a great resource. While I haven't tried the ostrich yet, I was compelled to write a positive review ASAP based solely on the venison. Defrosted a steak completely in about five hours on the counter, and had it pan-seared to blue rare with a bit of garlic salt and gorgonzola - with wild rice and an avocado on the side. Best meal I've had in a long time. Especially considering the price point, I couldn't be more satisfied. I was surprised to find so few reviews here; please don't hesitate to give these guys a shot. Im a huge burger fan. Now beef has ruled in my selections for quite a while. Ive tried so many different other types of carne but the mighty cow has always prevailed. Now ive found a comparable love in bison. Ive yet to try Blackwings Ostrich but their bison is phenomenal. Now mind you ive tried bison before and had good experiences, it just wasnt as flavorful as what ive recently experienced. My bison burger was super tasty and is now in the top burgers ive ever had. I placed an order on Tuesday. The order SHOULD ship the following day and we should have received it on Saturday as UPS delivers on Saturdays. I called to track the package and found the order hadn't shipped. The customer service tried to explain how UPS works and I failed to listen as I paid over $70 for delivery on an item that was to be in-house 3 days after the order was placed but was being lectured by their customer service on how UPS works. They stated that the order would not ship until after Thanksgiving 2 1/2 weeks after the order was placed...for 3 day shipping. The order would have arrived 2 weeks and 3 days after the order date...seriously??? WHAT A JOKE!! Ordered quite a few things from these guys. Ostrich, camel, Venison and kangaroo steaks. Ground Boar, ground Antelope, lobster tail, and a tuna steak. Everything was absolutely incredible! All of the steaks were then cooked by me to a heavily seared mid-rare. The Ostrich, which has always been a staple in my family, as my uncle raised them for meat and eggs when I was a child, was out of sight! The camel was something that I never thought I would love, but again, it was AMAZING! And the kangaroo..... oh boy the kangaroo! I have, for the last few years since trying it, have held elk as my favorite steak, but this kangaroo tenderloin was the most delicious steak I have ever had in my life! The ground boar and antelope were right on par with what I expected them to be as a ground meat; the antelope making a truly juicy burger. The only thing that was slightly below par was the lobster. It stuck in the shell after steaming, but mixing it with a recipe that I make using sour cream, bacon, burger meat, and cheese really kicked the recipe up a notch and absolutely redeemed itself. The tuna steak was quick-seared and cut into strips and was absolutely mouth-watering! I see people complaining about delivery times on their reviews, but I received my ground delivery in 10 days, which was twice as fast as my order from fossilfarms arrived last year. I think that people don't understand that when they purchase a 3 day shipping package that the package is 3 days from arriving at the post office and arriving at your door. A little bit of patience goes a long way. All in all I would give them 10 stars if I could. I would wait til the end of days to taste the sweet deliciousness of their steaks, specifically. I really want to love these guys and what they're doing. I'm not trying to be a hater - but I have to share my experience. I actually hope that it will make Blackwing Meats better. 1- Yes the order takes long to arrive. My confirmation email said that they were behind a week. Totally cool - but my order arrived after 2.5 weeks. Yikes. When I called, the woman who was surprised that it hadn't gone out already - said yeah, we'll give you a 5% discount that will be applied once your order ships. Cool. But then they didn't honor that. And when I called - another woman said "No, we don't do that." Ok - not the best customer service for a small firm. But moving on. 2 - then the shipment arrives - and it's filled with the cheap polystyrene foam peanuts. Really. I'm paying a FORTUNE and then all these cheap polystyrene foam peanuts are going to become landfill. There are biodegradable versions. This is terrible for a company that seems to be about humane and organic foods. How does landfill polystyrene fit into this when there is a better way! strike 2. 3 - the LAMB PUB BURGERS were OUTRAGEOUSLY FATTY. The raw patties are actually white - with specs of red... The fat far outweighed the meat. Yikes. Will not be ordering these again! I just paid $9.00 lb and got 70% fat. strike 3. 4 - the organic chicken feet. I really want these. I love bone broths. BUT - they are packaged in 2 5lb bags. I called to ask if they could package them in smaller packages. The response was "No. Most of our clients thaw them a bit and then separate into smaller bags and refreeze." OK. Now I don't mind a little work. But really?! Basically, you need to plan on either spending time breaking them up and repackaging or cook for days to use them all - and freeze the broth. I want to - but I work. I want to like these guys. But they need to learn some customer service. They also need to realize that they charge a premium for their meats and they should deliver a premium product & service. I just can't say that they do. We have been buying the Emu/Ostrich meat for our dogs for several years. Not only is the product excellent, but the customer service has been wonderful! Even when a snow storm kept UPS and our meat stuck somewhere, they shipped more by air so the pups would not miss dinner! read more

I ordered turkey patties and received chicken patties. Beth told me that due to them being a little whiter than they usually are, my entire family subconsciously thinks they are chicken patties. We were beyond shocked that this woman is basically saying that we are mental and don't know the difference between chicken and turkey patties. She did accept them back and refunded our money, but the damage was already done. It should be mentioned that they used to be in our local health foods stores and twice, in a short period of time, their products have been pulled for failing to meet USDA organic labeling standards. Honestly I do not trust this company and would be leery of ever purchasing their products ever again. Something just doesn't seem right. read more
