Recently Blake Orchard has introduced new lattes to their menu. First they tried them out at their Scarborough location but brought them to their Portland spot too. In search of a Sunday coffee my wife and I decided to come in and check the lattes out. Looking at the menu prior to our visit we did consider trying the smoothie bowls but a few reasons deterred us from doing so. The prices for the size you receive didn't seem worth it. The heavy use of almonds and the fact they can't guarantee being almond free made my wife hesitant too. The inside is spacious, welcoming and beautifully designed while remaining simple. I was surprised it wasn't busier considering this! Definitely felt like a spot you could enjoy a smoothie or drink and chat with friends or family for a while or watching the world outside the window. Street parking was easy enough to get right out front. Staff when we ordered were not un-friendly but also not overly friendly. More welcoming and friendly could make for even more memorable and nice experiences. Latte wise my wife got the Cinnamon Bun Latte while I got the Cookies & Cream Latte. Firstly I will say both the lattes we chose come with a housemade whip which is very delicious but much thicker than typical cold foam/latte toppings. They also make the syrups in house which is great and the taste was phenomenal. Both lattes nailed the flavors they were going for with a slight edge given to the cinnamon bun being better. After several visits I have to update my review. Even when ordering online ahead of time it takes over 40 minutes for them to make a smoothie and even longer for a smoothie bowl. Bonus! The staff is extremely unfriendly :( The lack of training in customer service is very apparent. To avoid frustration place your order at least an hour in advance! read more

The space is so clean and open, but also inviting. It was quiet when I came in. I got a few things from the fridge and also ordered a smoothie. The girl who took my order was very nice and patient, as I kept coming back to the register after finding more items to purchase. I also love how they have gluten free and vegan options for snacks! I got the peppermint smoothie to go and it was really good. The peppermint wasn't too overpowering. Also grabbed a couple of immunity shots and they are perfect for this time of year. Used to come here when I was in high school when they had the basement location downtown. Glad to see that they've moved to a bigger location but miss it being in the Old Port. The servers were friendly and helped me pick a milk that would go with my smoothie bowl! I ended up getting the Green Bowl which has always been my go-to. We had to wait a VERY long time for our bowls, luckily there was a big table open for us to wait at. The smoothie bowl was fresh and really tasty for a morning treat. I will say that the prices are kind of insane these days, at least since the last few times I've been there, and I probably won't be back because of that. The lovers' bowl from here is what dreams are made of!! It's so berrylicious and pretty to look at. Also warm mention to the matcha they make here - with their own vanilla almond milk. It's very nutty and tastes like sweet dates, plus they blend it so it's whipped and a bit thicker which I adore. They have street parking as well as a parking lot behind the smoothie shop which is a feat for downtown locations (the top floor is a spin studio). Everyone I have ever encountered who works here is a very stylish and sweet girl and I don't know which one of them is on aux but it's really good. Very good place to get some work done! Blake Orchard is in a good location, if you're going by car. Lots of on street parking and lots of seating inside. I'm disappointed with the fact the menu is very far away from where you order and there's no second menu to reference. With named menu items like "summer sunset", you need a better memory than I to order. I ordered the summer smoothie bowl and was then asked which of 5 fruits I wanted on top. Options are great and all but other smoothie bowl places in town have more thought out combos where they decide what's on top for you. I generally thought the bowls lacked imagination. Not to mention they are actually just smoothie bowls. Not acai or pitaya superfood bowls but are the same price point. The granola on top was okay but the homemade peanut butter was the winner. I should have left with a jar. They clearly get a lot of pre orders which makes sense because they took a long time to bring out the bowls. Mine came out first and my friends came out like.... 6-8 minutes later. As a result, my bowl was melting by the time I dug in. They have a juice to go cooler with health shots and other goodies. If you live in the area or attend cycle classes at Reve, it makes sense to go here. I personally like dragonfruit based pitaya bowls better. read more

Ehh, I got the Green Goddess smoothie with almond mylk and it was just okay to me. It didn't taste bad, just not very sweet and a pretty small size for the ($12!) price tag. I really like the calming interior decor and that there are several seating options. If I do go back, it will probably be less for the offerings and more for the ambiance and a nice place to work or study. I could see it being a nice treat in the summer. read more

I'm conflicted because the actual product is great but the customer experience isn't. In the COVID era, the business has decided to only take call in and online orders. I had hoped to be able to walk up and order, and was turned away. I was so confused. "Wait. So I need to go back outside, and then call you on the phone to place my order?" It really made no sense why they couldn't just take my order then and there. So I went outside and tried to call in, but the line was busy. Then I placed my order online using my phone and it took almost 20 minutes for them to prepare it - I guess the place is very popular and a lot of people do either phone or online orders! However, once I got over my customer service experience, I have to admit that the smoothie bowl was delicious and filling, down to the bee pollen. Would recommend! I really want to LOVE Blake Orchard. Because there are parts I do: 1) the location; I appreciate that it's on outer Forest, and there's always a tremendous amount of parking available on the side streets! 2) the interior; it's just such a comfortable and hip space with seating available at a bar or a table, an Instagram wall, and loads of sunlight pouring in from the huge windows! 3) the owner; she's passionate about what she's doing, and is such a warm person! 4) the smoothie bowls!; ooooooooh, I *love* these smoothie bowls (especially the Strawberry Bowl and the Summer Bowl [which are very similar]) and how generous they are especially with peanut butter and granola toppings. They're flavorful, they're filling, they're satisfying, and I genuinely always feel good after eating one! However, the last three times I went were kind of icky (and I did genuinely wait to write this until I had several experiences): 1) I went to pick up two smoothies. There were four or five people staffed that day, and they didn't seem super busy (just kind of hanging out chatting with each other). After forty-five minutes of waiting, I went back up to the counter to ask when my smoothies might be ready. The woman was *so rude*: "It'll be ready when it's ready," was her response. Okay, maybe it was an off day for them... 2) The next time I went back I overheard a staff member be, once again, *so rude* to a couple trying to order. "Wow, why is it so expensive?" I heard the woman ordering ask. The staff member: "Because those are the prices." Woman ordering: "But the menu on your wall says the prices are between $9 and $11." The staff member: "Well those are not our prices anymore, bring it up with our boss if you have an issue. Are you gonna pay orrrrr?" YIKES. 3) The last time I was there, I decided to pre-order online so I wouldn't have to interact with the staff. I picked-up my bowl from the fridge (which BTW is such a creative way to keep their product cool and fresh!) and drove home. After a couple bites I started finding blue pieces of rubber throughout the bowl. I took photos (I will not be posting them here) and emailed the owner privately. She responded immediately that this was unacceptable, she'd talk to the staff, and refunded me. So now I'm stuck: I crave their bowls (despite how expensive they are: nearly $20 for one without any additional toppings last time after tax and tip), but the staff makes me so uncomfortable, and while I'm sure the foreign objects in my last bowl were just a fluke, it makes me hesitant, you know? read more

First, I want to start off by saying that the space is very cute! They also have a great menu. As for parking, there is street parking available, which was no problem. With regard to the staff, there were three high school aged girls working when I visited earlier today. They were chatting about something when I walked in, candidly it wasn't the best customer service I've ever had but they did take my order and make my food so I can't complain too much. I really wanted to like this place, but there were a couple things that didn't work for me. The first is the pricing, I definitely felt as though both my food and my drink were very overpriced. I ordered a smoothie bowl and a peppermint hot chocolate, and the total for my bill was $24. When I asked to have the receipt printed, I noticed a two dollar up charge for the addition of almond butter to my smoothie bowl. The scoop of almond butter was not worth that price and although my food was good, it wasn't great. Additionally, the size of the hot chocolate was not very large, I'd guess the cup size was 12oz (give or take). The cost of that was $6. I live near Boston and I'm used to prices being higher, but this was pretty expensive, even for me. I also noticed the bathroom was chilly, as of the heat wasn't turned on in there? Blake Orchard has had my heart for a while, and I have ventured into their Old Port location more than a time or two but I found out they have a spot on Forest Ave and it is beautiful. First off, you can park in the lot out back which is a huge plus! Second off, they finally have a large enough space for you to sit, work, visit and munch on all your favorites. They have all the same yumminess I have come to know and love! My favorite is also the staff favorite which happens to be the "Summer"! It is fresh, fruity, yet nutty all at the same time. My mom and I love it here!! We live an hour away and sometimes drive all that way just cause we are craving their smoothie bowls. I don't know what they put in their smoothies that makes me crave them so badly but it's the rude staff that can tie that craving back. When I walked in a group of workers in the back glared at me and none of them said hello. I couldn't even tell if they were open because they made me feel like I was a bother to their social hour. It was until after I paid and tipped that they told me they were out of everything besides the one fruit I'm allergic to. They were extremely bothered to remake my order and when I was handed the remake they physically rolled their eyes while handing it to me. I'd give this place 5 stars for taste. I've been twice and had great tasting smoothies both times. It's obvious the staff are not happy to be there. None of the 3 people working greeted us or asked if we had questions about the menu. Maybe they are not used to interacting with real people as it seems customers can order online and pick their orders up in the fridge without even eye contact with the staff. Whatever the reason, call me old or old-fashioned, I'd like someone to say "Thank you" when I have shelled out over $13 for a smoothie. Both times I have visited, there have been no people sitting in the quite large space. Too bad, it is bright and clean and decorated sparsely with light wood and neutral colors. It's like it was designed as an Instagram background for your bright and fruity smoothie to just "pop" in the photo you'll post. As someone else noted in their review, the menu wall is far from where they want you to order which doesn't make a lot of sense with all those great ingredients. And, again, the drinks taste great. I will return on another special occasion but this won't be my every day or even weekly smoothie bar. read more

When I find myself too lazy to make my smoothie bowl at home, I can always count on Blake Orchard to make me some amazing! COVID-19 has changed the new norm and Blake Orchard has adapted well. They are open 7 am - 4 pm on weekdays and closed Sun. Very convenient. I went on a run through Baxter Woods with my GF and ordered our smoothies online to be ready when we were done. Arrived 15 minutes early... ooops, no problem though I called to inform them I was there. Our order was still in the queue, which was understandable because we were early, but our smoothies were made immediately and finished in 5 minutes. No contact delivery is HUGE nowadays, they put my to-go bag on a table outside, however, they had no idea I was the person who the order belonged to when grabbed it. Luckily I don't see Portland as a type of place someone would steal another persons order. Hassle-free and delicious. Definitely recommend this to all smoothie and smoothie bowl lovers that are on the go or want to enjoy it after a run/walk at Baxter Woods and the Back Cove. I also recommend parking in the lot behind the building because its safer than sitting on the street with moving traffic on forest street and recommend ordering online and place a pickup time, a lot easier for you and them. read more
