I went to this place for a few months until I got seriously penalized for cancelling a few appointments. I was told that from that point forward I was "not allowed" to pre-book any future appointments. I was downgraded to only being able to book the same day - which is impossible since all the therapists are booked weeks in advance. So, basically I could only get in if they had a same day cancellation. And, I still had to pay the $50 cancellation per visit fee. AND a $20 administrative fee! I wrote a nice e-mail to the owner, Jeff Blake (who had worked on me) to appeal to him to reinstate me and he completely ignored me. That was months ago and I have yet to hear from him. Their cancellation policy was in small print on a raft of papers I signed when I first started none of which were given to me to keep. From day one, I also experienced some of front desk problems that others have commented on such as having to get my own continuing prescriptions from the doctor, no appointment reminders, etc. The front desk was as unhelpful as they could be. Because I was prevented from booking appointments, the consistency of my therapy was interrupted while I looked for a new place to go. So, in summation, while the therapists there are very good, the business practices of the owner, Jeff Blake, make it very clear that he is only interested in maximizing his profits and not the patient's care. It is all his way or the highway. As a customer, I want to be treated much better than that. read more

I saw Dr. Mathieux (Andy) for a little over a year for treatment for pelvic pain. She is amazing! Super knowledgeable, very friendly, and always took my observations and feedback into account. The internal pelvic work was super effective and reduced my pain dramatically within the first couple months. After that, we did sustaining internal work and a solid exercise program to retrain ...pretty much everything, honestly. Andy and my PT aide Taylor basically taught me how to walk again! The exercise program was manageable to do from home, and Taylor was super great at identifying the changes I needed to make to my form and helping me correct them. I honestly love these ladies so much now! Admin staff is great too, very friendly and as a repeat patient they were very flexible with rescheduling and cancellations when I needed it. They take multiple insurances which is a huge plus and somewhat rare for pelvic PT, personally my copay was only $25. Also, everyone is masked. I will definitely be returning for occasional maintenance care. Thank you Blake PT! read more

Absolutely 5 stars for this place. If I could rate it higher, I would. First, Maggie Everly-Ramirez is the best PT I've ever had. She's thoughtful, kind, and gentle, while also addressing the issues at hand. She sees a variety of patients, from small children to older men and women, and I think she's professional, but warm with every single person that walks through her door. Also, she's really funny, and having a nice laugh and chat with my PT often distracts me from the pain of my injury and makes the time fly by. She is also, by far, the best at manual therapy. Her "massages" (as I lovingly refer to them) work out all of the tension in my back, and I leave feeling super relaxed, even after stretching and exercising. Kyla, the receptionist, is amazing. She works with my difficult work schedule and always finds a slot for me. She's so sweet and always willing to try her best to squeeze me in or find a cancellation on days where I'm in pain and need to be seen. If I send her an email, I have a response within the hour. She's incredibly professional, and not having to wait around when I get to PT is definitely a plus. Shannon, one of the PT assistants, is also amazing. She's talkative and sweet, but also pushes me to work out to the best of my ability. She talks to me while I do the "not fun" stuff like squats and balancing, and gives me great tips on how I can better my work outs. Plus, she has great taste in TV shows and music. I was apprehensive when I started here because I had never been to a PT office that was all communal. You are having manual therapy done in front of others and exercising in front of others. After being a patient for one session, my anxiety about this was relieved, as Maggie gives me 100% of her attention when I am her patient. Can't speak for the actual physical therapy, but I'll give it a huge thumbs down for the admin. Originally I called them trying to see someone in the next day or two, however, they didn't have anything available. I made an appointment for the following week at a different physical therapist, but then was called by Blake's secretary telling me they had an opening the next day. I said that sounded great and just to hold on till I made sure I could cancel my other appointment. After canceling my appointment I called Blake back only to find out they had given away the time slot that they had just told me about! So now instead of having an appointment the next day or the following week, I had nothing! All Blake could offer me was look for an appointment soon or the first spot if there was any cancelation. Pretty horrible way to do business if you ask me. Needless to say, I found another place to go. read more

I wanted to like this place so badly. It would have been so convenient. It's right on my way home from work and only 5 minutes from my front door. It could have been so perfect. I visited the Marina Del Rey office for a post-op and found the staff here fell down on every step - and was unapologetic about it as well. I couldn't agree more with David's review. The front office has a serious attitude and competency problem. The general attitude is one of - "No," "I can't" and "we don't". They are not solutions oriented. What won't they do you may ask? 1. Confirm your appointment by email 2. Make a reminder call before your appointment 3. Contact your referring physician for X-rays or other information 4. Make blank patient forms available prior to arrival Basically... none of the things every other medical professional does in 2013. After arguing, I mean it, arguing, with the receptionist to schedule an appointment, I was told I could get in on a Thursday... only to arrive for my appointment and be told I'd actually been scheduled for Friday. You think a confirmation email and/or reminder call might have been helpful? I again had to argue with the receptionist to get appointments scheduled out in advance so they were late enough to accommodate my work schedule. All my appointments were scheduled for 5:30 moving forward - except for the 2nd appointment apparently which was for 5pm. So I receive a call from them at 5:25 as I'm pulling into the parking lot telling me I'd missed my appointment. Again, a reminder call or confirmation email could have avoided this. I complained to the office manager who confirmed their policies and was unapologetic. IT'S 2013! I also found that they were a bait and switch operation as I was told over the phone that I'd be seeing an occupational therapist (hand specialist) but instead was assigned to a general therapist who is not a specialist and was not told until I was already there for my intake appointment. I found my therapist to be very pleasant and probably good at her job (I have no point of reference as I've never had PT before) - but the shear incompetence and bad attitude of the staff makes this place intolerable. I kinda picked this place randomly when I had an IT band issue fall. My therapist Lauren was a pro, was super nice, and was extremely knowledgeable. Plus, she went to school at UCLA where she was one of the trainers for their football team for three years, which I thought was cool. The facility was small and intimate which was nice, and meant that I got a lot of one on one attention from everyone involved in my rehab. To be honest, I've never gone to any other PT facility, so I have nothing to compare it to, but this was perfect for my needs and I felt right at home in all ways. read more

Blake Physical Therapy changed my life! With Jeff's expertise and knowledge, I was able to heal my knees, shoulder and ankle without the surgeries that were called for by my doctors. Jeff and his staff offered many types of exercises and ways to conquer the pain I had been feeling. I am amazed by how much better I felt after only a single session. When I hurt my shoulder, I saw my doctor, who ordered an MRI. I decided to consult with Jeff before proceeding with any possible surgery. My shoulder is practically pain free after two sessions. Jeff was able to pinpoint the the root of the pain and figured out how to keep other areas strong with exercises so that I wouldn't need surgery. What a relief. Would strongly recommend going somewhere else for serious rehabilitation needs. I came in a month after I had ACL reconstruction surgery and needed serious attention. Unfortunately, all I would receive during my visits at Blake Physical Therapy was 5, maybe 10 minutes of hands on treatment from my therapist. After that, another patient would be waiting their turn. When my "treatment" was finished, I would then follow my at home exercise regiment my surgeon gave me with little to no guidance from my PT or the trainer on the floor. Nothing was being done for me at Blake that I couldn't do at home. My overall experience was very discouraging and at times heartbreaking, while rehabbing at Blake I didn't know if I would be able to ski again. Fortunately I got new insurance and took my business elsewhere and couldn't be happier with my new therapist. read more

I'm in the middle of rehabilitation for an IT band injury and have been very happy with my experience at Blake. My lead therapist has been Megan Wilson and she is very knowledgeable and flexible to respond to my particular case. I don't feel like there is a standard solution, rather they are working with me applying a treatment to my needs. On her team for me is a guy named John and a woman named Lauren and both of them are very qualified and experienced. I am not out of the woods, but I do highly recommend this team if you need PT and want an intimate location with a dedicated and personal approach. read more

Jeff Blake is a master physical therapist with great imagination, skills and drive that motivates and heals. If you want the best, he is it. Over my 57 years, i have been injured many times from motocross and other sports, requiring PT. No one even ranks near Jeff in my opinion and I will refer him forever while I continue to improve from his talents. I had a total knee replacement on 12/3/13 and had to have a second surgery in May 2014. I believe it is from the bad rehab / advice I received from the large PT group in Santa Monica that i used.. I am very certain that I would be healed if I had used Jeff Blake out of the gate. Instead, I am suffering and struggling 10 months later. Since a friend highly recommended him for my problems last month, Jeff Blake and I have been trying to break through the scar tissue that resides in my knee. It is a debilitating and depressing situation but Jeff has made a big difference so late in the game. I have hope again and a companion who is committed to my rehabilitation. of all the Physical Therapy offices I been (probably 25) this is the worse, before I booked a appointment I called and gave the receptionist my name and Insurance information and wanted to find out what I was going to pay out of pocket, I got a call back the nest day and was told $50 per visit, I had 3 visits and got charged $100 per visit I called and explained to them I was told $50 per visit and they denied it. besides the substandard treatment {stretching my arm against a wall and holding my hand above my head) I hope someone can learn by my mistake and get it in writing first your cost..................this place should s..ks read more

I tore four ligaments and the meniscus in my left knee while playing full court basketball. Shortly thereafter, I had knee surgery and subsequently suffered huge complications. My knee became badly infected and my body rejected the graft. I endured five more knee surgeries before I was fixed. During that time, I was not very active and my movement was limited. This long period of inactivity resulted in a significant amount of muscle atrophy, making it necessary for me to learn how to walk again. When I began physical therapy, I was angry at my situation, feeling very down and constantly exhausted. Making matters worse, I visited three physical therapists in succession, each of whom went through the motions without fully understanding my situation. Fortunately, my fourth physical therapist was a gifted individual who understood and connected with me. Jeff Blake, of Blake Physical Therapy, provided a life changing experience, instilling in me a sense of hope. He changed my pessimistic outlook into optimism through constant encouragement and motivation. Jeff believed an enlivened and empowered mental state could have an immeasurable effect on one's physical state. Newly armed with optimism and relief, I felt in control of the path to rebuilding my body. Without Jeff Blake and Blake Physical Therapy, I would not have been able to return to full health. My knee feels strong and sturdy now. The attention to detail at Blake Physical Therapy is above and beyond what you will receive at other PT places. I had an accident which required knee surgery. Maggie was my physical therapist and she was outstanding. She's very knowledgeable, handled everything in a professional manner, and has a humble/charming personality to go with it all. Overall the place was great, the staff was nice, the parking was usually fine but sometimes gets crowded. The only weird thing was that they have a flat screen TV on the wall but for some odd reason they don't use it. It would be nice to see the news or a movie sometimes while we do our strengthening exercises. Also, it would be great if they had Video Gait Analysis too. read more

Blake physical therapy has offices in Marina Del Rey and Santa Monica. This is Jeff Blake's organization and he provides the services, along with a staff of several other physical therapists whose work he oversees. At Blake PT, I have only had physical therapy with Jeff, first following surgery for a fractured femur that eventually did not heal right, leading to complications that then required a hip replacement; then following the hip replacement, and also for a problem with my shoulder that was interfering with my being able to swim. I have been to other physical therapists in the past. But after working with Jeff, I cannot imagine ever working with anyone else. Many things make Jeff the most terrific physical therapist you can find. First and foremost is his analytic approach -- his determination to analyze the problem exactly; find precisely what is causing the difficulty , then explain it to you in ways that make sense and that give you confidence -- and hope -- in what he is going to do. He is extremely knowledgeable and skilled in his approach; he explains what you have to do and why, to help your recovery; and titrates and modifies his approach as needed, every step of the way. All of this serous work is done with a great deal of humor -- it is really FUN to work with him - and respect. .Jeff enjoys getting to know his patients as individuals, every one special and different, giving you, therefore, every reason to trust him and enjoy the time with him (even if there may be hard work and pain involved). .
