Everyone talks about this place when you come to this part of town. So we needed to stop it's a great hamburger for fast food I got mine of course with green chili spicy.... We also got a chili dog which was really great hit the spot.. the guys that were working were really super nice and helpful. Helped us with the menu and cooked everything to our liking. Driving into New Mexico from Oklahoma, we were really looking forward to a green chile burger, but we left extremely disappointed with both the food and the service. The restaurant was dirty, and it felt like there was no pride taken in anything. Our burgers were still pink--so much so that I didn't feel comfortable letting my kids eat and asked for a refund for their meals. The manager on duty was apologetic, which I appreciated, but unfortunately that didn't make up for the experience. Next time, we'll be stopping in Roswell or Las Cruces instead. read more

Good little non-chain burger spot. There are lots of burger options in Alamogordo (but not all open every day), so you have to not be picky. When in NM, you have to get a burger with green chiles. Doesn't disappoint. Onion are solid as well. I would definitely go back after trying other burger spots in the area. read more

I got a craving for a green chili cheeseburger on a Sunday, and options were limited. I decided to try this place again against my better judgment. I had given up on it years ago because service was slow and food's mediocre. I wish I hadn't tried it again! Ordered their New Mexico style burger and a medium fries $13 plus. Right off the bat sampling the fries in the car. They were limping not hot. Things didn't get better from there. The burger was huge but that's the best that can be said about it. Flavor was nowhere to be found despite it being hot green chili. But it was chopped green chili probably out of a can instead of nice strips of fresh roasted green chili. Even spicing it up with some boar's Head, spicy mustard couldn't save it. Awful! read more

Every one we've been to has been great food and service. Always been well staffed and clean. My friend and I embarked on a green chile cheeseburger tour this past week. Our mission was to find the best green chile cheeseburger in the great state of New Mexico. We went to 11 different places and here are the results. Blake's Lotaburger ranked #7 out of 11. Blake's wins awards for having "the best green chile cheeseburger". Sometimes those awards are to be taken with a grain of salt (popularity contest, lots of locations etc etc), but legit, Blake's is pretty solid for a classic green chile cheeseburger. We went inside, placed our order and took our burger outside to the picnic benches to eat. Here is how it was................ Green Chile Cheeseburger New Mexico Style- This burger came topped with 2 thin patties, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, cheese and green chiles. Solid bun, with a little bit of "sheen" on it which is always welcomed! The burger patties themselves were thin and cooked well. They could have used a little bit more seasoning, but for a fast food burger, they were ok. The produce on the burger was fresh and tasty. The cheese kind of got lost in the mix and I didn't really get any cheese flavor while eating it. The green chiles were good, albeit a tad skimp. Overall, for a fast food burger, it was good. If we had Blake's in Phoenix, I would seek them out, for sure. A good, no nonsense, green chile cheeseburger for the masses. read more

First time here for me & I noticed from the road that they had green chili burgers so I whipped the truck around and parked. Ok so it was just ok imo. I had ordered bacon with cheese & once I received it it didn't had bacon but they did put some on after I went back in. The fries were seasoned perfectly & the Pepsi was nice and crisp like it should be out of a fountain. The burger bun was tuff so I guess it had some age on it so that made it not so great. read more

Blake is nothing like Whataburger for starters in that Blake's food is really good. Blake's is more akin to In & Out quality than junk. The menu is simple. Burgers, chicken, dogs, shakes, fries and o-rings. When in New Mexico and a couple hours from Hatch then the Green Chile Cheese Burgers are a must have. The Green Chile "Lota" Burger is a double cheese that runs less than $8. The Lota Size is double meat/cheese with a gang of chopped up green chile and the standard veggies. Grilled jalapenos, bacon and meat chili can be added for a few bucks but this is a mean burger as is. Maybe try with bacon when I roll through. The burger patties like In & Out were fresh but unlike In & Out were much much much larger. The double cheese was similar to a 4x4 or 3x3. Blake's has been around since 1952 & won some awards for the best Green Chile Cheeseburger and I agree. Blakes was the best Green Chile Cheeseburger I have had. Left hungry & happy. This is important as my calorie intake goes up 400% for my 150 lbs body when I'm exploring and doing crazy things such as messing around in White Sands then the Guadalupe Mountains =) Oh by the way, the fries are good too and can you explain anything tastier than a spicy green chile cheese burger chased down by some extra ice cold diet coke =P? Alamogordo is limited on options. Blake's just remodeled their store & it's clean enough, nothing special or unique really going on here. Minimal inside seating. Food is fine, service is pretty lackluster. I had the chicken basket which comes with fries & sauce. After getting my food, I realized I had no sauce so I went up to the same employee that took my order and asked for sauce, they said I had to pay. Went to a different employee and explained to them what I ordered and how sauce was included but I didn't get it, they gave it to me no problem. So lesson learned, avoid the high schoolers and ask the adults if there's an issue with your order. read more

Tried Blake's tonight and it was pretty good. I had the New Mexico Style "Lota Burger Meal". The burger was pretty good and it had a nice kick. I read the reviews of some of postings, but I took a chance and actually liked the burger. Prices were reasonable compared to some of the other burger joints I noticed in town. They were lucky to get one star...that was only because the fries were good. We ordered 2 cheeseburger meal combos and a kids meal with a grilled cheese and milk. The milk they gave us had already been opened. The seal was missing and half the milk was gone. How did this end up back in their fridge stock? The burgers were overcooked and just overall pretty awful. While we were eating, one of the kitchen staff walked out the front door and was coughing and spitting in the parking lot. He walked back in and didn't wash his hands that we could see anyhow. Unpleasant experience. Needless to say, we will not ever go back and would not recommend Blake's. read more

I'm gonna be very honest...It's hard to come to Blake's when Hi-D-Ho is right down the block. However, Blake's serves the burgers in a timely manner and you can still get your green chile. My only recommendation is to EAT OUTSIDE. If you order your food and eat indoors be prepared to smell like the grease that is dripping off that grill. You will come out smelling like food (burger and French fry grease). Blake's is a chain. They have good food. If you're only in Alamogordo for 1 night and craving a burger then you MUST go to Hi-D-Ho. If you are still in New Mexico then you can check out a Blake's Lotaburger in another town. read more

First time trying this chain and while it didn't blow my mind out, they were decent enough. You can see they are a short-staffed as things were quite slow. I got the Lota burger with the cheese and green chili and onion rings. It was a good sized burger but honestly, until I really started taking bites for the green chili, I couldn't taste it, the flavor hidden under the weight of the patty, veggies and the cheese. I decided to try this place out. The parking was plentiful and there were a couple of people ahead of me inside. The interior was bright and there was inside and outside seating. The menu had a few things to choose from but I ordered the Lota Combo ($6.39), made it a double (changed to $8.29), added bacon ($0.80), added cheese ($0.50), added the hatch green chile ($0.50) and chose regular fries which all came out to $10.90. There was a few minutes of waiting before the order was ready. I guess all of their orders were to-go orders but I just ate there. The picture I took of the food made it seem like it's sloppy but it wasn't that bad. The burger tasted great to me and the green chile flavor added an additional kick which might be spicy for some. This used to be the go-to burger place in Alamogordo but not anymore. They recently made drastic changes to their burger. It's smaller and nothing close to the bigger burger they used to sell. Now you must specify if you want a large order of fries and a large drink and they charge you more if you do. Before the changes, you automatically got a large drink and fries. Shockingly this is the first time I have eaten at a Blake's and it lived up to its hype. We had breakfast burritos this morning with green chillis added and green chili sauce my husband ordered the bacon and I had the sausage both were cooked to perfection. The service was friendly and fast we will be back soon to try the green chili burgers. read more

I'm so heartbroken. That's actually a gross exaggeration. The rise and fall of Blake's Lotaburger's breakfast quality really doesn't hold that great of an impact on my life. I'm sorry. But, still. This location was closed for so long for their renovation. And, for reasons I cannot understand, they let the entire staff go when they closed to renovate. Hired all new staff when they reopened a couple months ago. And, the new staff and the food they produce are just awful. Blake's has a lovely new building that's full of abrasive people and blah breakfast food. I miss the magic of their old staff and the wonderful breakfast burritos that they made. This was the second time I've been there since they reopened. The first time I thought "well, they're all new. Maybe they just haven't found their groove yet." But, here we are, so many months down the line, and nothing has improved, at all. I ordered my usual today - a #1 Bacon Breakfast Burrito with extra red sauce. I ordered online for pickup and arrived exactly on time (8:32AM). There were two women working up front. One woman who had a long, white braid, kept her back to the lobby the whole time. The other woman was trying to handle the crowd of 5 people (including me) in the lobby, and looking overwhelmed and harried. There's no designated lines for people to place their orders or check in for pickup, so people who came in after me were helped before me. But, life goes on. It took both women working at the counter a minute or two to locate my order, and I brought it home to eat. The hashbrowns and bacon were all burnt. I ordered extra red sauce but they put almost none on at all. Not even what used to be considered a regular amount. There was no gooey, saucy cheeseiness anywhere inside the burrito. It was a pile of dry, burnt-flavored despair, wrapped in a tortilla. A truly saddening experience which I chose not to finish. While I don't see myself going back for breakfast again anytime soon, I will say that their milkshakes at least are still on point. Those, to me, are worthy of a two star review. read more

Check your orders before leaving! At least 50 percent of my visits to this place require me to go back to the counter and get food that wasn't included. Restaurant has a ton of flies and virtually no indoor seating. I gave it a second star because the green chile cheeseburger is pretty good. Update: against our better judgment, came back following morning for breakfast. Wife has been waiting FORTY minutes for a simple breakfast order. Restaurant not crowded. The burgers and onion rings here are good, but the best dish is the breakfast burrito (only served mornings, unfortunately). It is a hefty burrito wrapped in aluminum foil that you can eat there or take out. It's made of two scrambled eggs, lots of hash browns, and your choice of bacon or sausage or carne adovada or beans (and some combinations) with red or green sauce included. Their kid meals are also good, and offer healthy options such as apples as an alternative to fries. The kid chocolate milks are huge and adored by the kids I know. read more
