Inexpensive for what you get! Pretty good authentic Mexican food. We had beef enchilada (with red sauce), crunchy tacos, street tacos and chicken enchiladas with green sauce. For dessert, we tried a few flavors of churro's, plain caramel and a Bavarian cream. They bring out chips and salsa ahead (think it's $3 for unlimited). Salsa's were ok and the chips were too thick for our liking. The street tacos were excellent! Definitely recommend. The crunchy tacos were great too. Super fresh. Service was great! I was in search of some dinner and this place had good reviews. I ordered the combination plate to go with a tamale and enchilada. The waitress was kind and answered my questions about the menu. In my opinion, a clear indicator of a good restaurant is the water...their water was delicious! The food was good too, though the rice/bean portions seemed a little small but perhaps because I got it to go. They have a big menu and lots of variety. Restaurant has a dated, but classic Mexican restaurant vibe, but don't let that fool you the food is great! Service was great, very friendly and welcoming. Husband got the carne asada burrito loaded with crispy fries and topped in a spicy green sauce that he devoured! I simply stuck with my go to crunchy tacos that were large and stuffed full of meat and toppings! They also have a white spicy queso dip that was delicious as a starter to go with the chips and spicy salsas while waiting for our dinner. (IYKYK white cheese dip really is the best dip!) I ordered a simple plate: chicken, rice, beans, green chile. What I got was chicken still wrapped in plastic, not metaphorically, not a corner, fully cooked with melted plastic wrap fused to the meat. At first I thought the issue was the flimsy, useless plastic utensils they give you. Nope. Turns out I was literally trying to cut through plastic wrap baked into my food. Chicken, rice, beans... and a side of melted petroleum. This isn't "oops we forgot salt." This is basic food safety failure. Plastic doesn't belong in a pan, on a grill, or on a plate, and definitely not served to a customer. Completely unacceptable. If you can't remove packaging before cooking, you shouldn't be serving food. Update: I called the restaurant to report this. There was no apology, just "that's strange" and a request that I bring the food back so they could look at it. No refund offered, no concern expressed. This response was almost as alarming as the plastic itself. Update: After posting this review, the New Mexico Environment Department inspected the restaurant. The inspector told me the facility was clean and that the issue appeared to be a mistake by an inexperienced food handler, the chicken was individually wrapped, which explains how the plastic was missed. I also received a call from the manager. He apologized directly, took responsibility, issued a refund, and acknowledged that it was unacceptable. No excuses were made, and I appreciated the professionalism of that conversation. read more

Food was ok. I was starving so I ate it all. Ordered a 4 item combo. Enchiladas with red and green sauce. A little more kick than I'm used to but I like spicy. Chips and salsa were pretty bland. Ordered a pastor taco and got carnitas. That was good. Ordered a shredded beef taco and got ground beef. The crunchy taco shell is store bought. Come on man. That's a step above fresh chips. Great service, but the food was pretty disappointing. The rice had bits which were undercooked to the point of being hard. The stuffed sopapilla was pretty unappetizing as well. My partner had no desire to finish it. While the shrimp fajitas were pretty decent, they were also quite expensive for what I received. The street tacos are full of flavor, the crispy fries are always hot and pairs well with the red enchilada sauce. My favorite is the hot green chicken enchiladas -- spicy and delicious. Absolutely delicious! After trying so hard to find a good Mexican restaurant in Alamogordo, we finally found one! The food was flavorful and delicious. My sister loved the albóndigas, it came with plenty of meatballs and veggies. The menudo had great flavor, clean and a good ratio of meat and hominy. The caldo de res was packed with veggies and meat and the meat was extremely tender. The tacos al pastor (street tacos) were absolutely delicious, they are probably my favorite item. I will be ordering them again and again. This place also serves homemade, refreshing Aguas Frescas: horchata, jamaica, melón, watermelon, and mango. They also serve beer, a handful of bottled selection. The prices are decent, the portions good, and the service was friendly and attentive. Today, after a couple of hours at White Sands NP, five of us went to Rizo's for lunch. We had a variety of items, burrito, stuffed sopapilla, sopes, tacos and a Barbacoa plate. My girlfriend and I went here to get take-out to bring back to a motel after visiting White Sands. The man who took our orders helped by letting me know I could get several vegetarian meals, while this wasn't indicated on the menu. The wait for our food was perfectly reasonable. We both enjoyed our food very much. I don't know if my veggie chimichanga wasn't deep fried, or if it just softened from all the sauce and cheese on top. It tasted good regardless of not seeming deep fried. It was like a veggie fajita burrito, which is still delicious. The restaurant itself seems nice inside. They had warm colors, decorative lights, and some plants growing above a half-wall near the entrance, which my girlfriend now wants to somehow do at my house (I have no half-wall!). It wasn't exactly quiet, but I don't recall it being loud while we were inside. I didn't see the bathroom(s). I'd return here if I was in town again. read more

What a disappointment. Had seen some good reviews so was looking forward to some decent Mexican food. It was not found here. First, the salsas were terrible. The red salsa was very sour and no other flavor. The green salsa had a tiny bit of heat but was flavorless. They charged for the chips and salsa which lets you know right there this is not authentic local Mexican food! The refried beans tasted sour like they were old. The rice was ok. The al pastor tacos had overcooked meat like it had been prepared before, frozen, then reheated. The chili Colorado was a strange beefy red sauce. It did not seem like the meat had been cooked in red chili. Rather seemed like they added beef fajita meat to the red sauce just prior to serving. Rizos is the best Mexican food in town. The people are nice and friendly, always greeting with a smile. I always order take out and they usually have my food ready within 10 minutes. Originally from CA, I'm not a fan of the TexMex and this place pretty much hits home with the Mexican/SoCal flavor. The ambience is home-y. Bright orange walls make you feel like you're in Mexico. Let me start by saying the service was great but that is where it ended. The food was inedible, the meat was dried out and over seasoned.

Totally exceptional! The pozole soup and churros were particular stand outs. We loved it.

We stopped here in the middle of a long day of hiking. Peter was our server and he provided exceptional customer service during our meal. We ordered the taco salad and chicken enchiladas.
