Wouldn't be a visit to New Mexico if we didn't stop at Blake's. Reminiscent of a 1930s hamburger stand, Blake's still puts out some good meals! We stopped for breakfast and ordered a breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg, and of course green chili! There is no drive thru window, so you just go in. They do have order head if want to call your order in to expedite the process. They are pretty speedy though. Clean kitchen, nice staff, and very clean dining area. I haven't been to a Blake's in nearly a decade and I thought I'd give the franchise another try. That was a mistake. The entire restaurant smelled like burnt meat and most of the employees were just standing around chatting. I think only one employee was preparing the food. I had a New Mexican LOTA Burger and the Blake's Chicken Sandwich. The employee who took my order asked for a name and then they put something random on the ticket. Why bother asking if you're not going to type it in correctly? I said my order was to-go but they marked it as dine-in. The burger was $9 and it was just as disappointing as the last time I had it. The patties were mushy, there was way too much mustard, and there was very little green chile. The $6 chicken sandwich was a sloppy mess because there was more sauce on the outside than the inside. It was also a very small sandwich. The chicken tenders were more like chicken nuggets. There are signs posted everywhere saying that any item that uses eggs will have an extra $1 charge due to a shortage. Well, the grocery stores are fully stocked with eggs so I don't know if this place has a shortage due to their company's supply chain or if they're just trying to squeeze an extra buck out of customers. Today I sampled the New Mexican style double green chile cheeseburger. It did not have enough chile and they ruined it by slopping a ton of yellow mustard on it making it pretty poor. Their fish sandwich was pretty good. On my comparative scale it scored 38 out of 50. McDonald's scored only 16. Burger King scored 36, and Long John Silver's scored 41. read more

First thing I noticed is that the restaurant is not family friendly as there is no changing table in any restroom I ordered a chocolate milkshake , medium order, fries, and asked for a courtesy water. They said they'd have to charge me for a cup if I were to get a water and charge me $2.50. I was appalled, as I was already spending money for the chocolate milkshake and the fries that they couldn't just give me a courtesy cup of water, but I paid and I sat down. The chocolate shake was pure chocolate syrup at the bottom and was not mixed very well. The fries were hot and fresh. I cannot with good conscious give this more than one star because when I started drinking the water, I was horrified to find that there was dark red spots frozen in the ice. My rating of fast food establishments continued today with a visit to Blake's Lotaburger. It has been years since we have gone to a Blake's (maybe on a trip to the Grants, NM area). My wife had the green chile burger combo and I had the double burger combo without green chile. For our sides, we shared the seasoned fries and the onion rings. Both of the sides were good. When you have a line of people out the door INSIDE YOUR ESTABLISHMENT - stop taking phone orders. It pisses everyone in the line off. 2. Adequately staff your place on a Sunday afternoon. 3. Lotaburger serves a pretty solid burger, but the zip from the green chiles takes it to the next level. Good fries for a fast food place. Place is clean, service is friendly, prices are reasonable. This was recommended by a bunch of friends as a great local chain. I was expecting a quirky hole-in-the wall. I was expecting plates. I was expecting forks and spoons. Cole slaw, maybe potato salad. I was expecting table service and less-than clean bathrooms. Nope. It's a chain burger place. It's out to compete with Burger King, McDonalds, and (fill-in-the-blank). And it does. It's got that fast-food decor going on, antiseptic hard plastic, tile and fluorescents. Utilitarian and kid-proof. It's got burgers wrapped in foil-paper, and mine was very good. It's got plain ol' French fries, and while I didn't care for them (I like Burger King's), fries are personal and most of my friends do, so try 'em. The soda choices are few, which is kind of a bummer, but they had the basics. They also have Nathan's hot dogs, which I love (but didn't try). Don't remember seeing quirky sides, though might have missed 'em. And they have not only shakes, but malts. I love malts. Ever try one? Give it a shot. A little less mindlessly sweet; a little crystalline crunchiness; a bit of added complexity. Not quite as good a malt as Dairy Queen's (right next door), but pretty good, and since the burger was much better, I don't see a reason to stand in two fast-food lines. The service was also very good. A little slow: think Carl's Jr./ Hardees, but I think that's because of the notch-better burgers, and it wasn't TOO slow by any means. The blakes down on valley is so much better food wise and customer service wise, when I called to let them know (having worked food service it was always helpful to know if there was an issue or a mistake) I was hung up on.
