The fish is pretty tasty and they get a 9 out of 10 for keeping the cooking oil fresh and clean, sure glad they're still in the business when others like Arthur Treacher's is no longer around, casual and comfortable Dining areas are kept very clean. Friendly and can always get the right combination Fish & Clams are delicious along with Hushpuppies and my only complaint is Tarter sauce needs a quality touch, hasn't really changed since 1977 when our school toured Long John's and introduced to their original fresh breading method and how they add those crunches to their entrees. I dropped in at Long John Silver's on El Paseo for lunch and I must say that this restaurant gets a rating of about two and three quarter stars (2 3/4) primarily because their sides were so poor. The restaurant is an order at the counter fast food type of place. You pick your food up at the counter when called. It won't take long...about 8 or 10 minutes. The restaurant is reasonably comfortable for dining, it is clean, and roomy enough between tables. I found the service at the counter pleasant and efficient. Today I sampled a variety of food. Ordered the fish and shrimp platter with two sides. Also ordered a crab cake to check that out. Prices were reasonable. The fish (Atlantic Cod) had a light crispy batter and it was not oily. It could have had more flavor and the fish was not as flakey as one would like but it was fairly good. Rate the fish about a "B." The shrimp also has the nice light batter. The shrimp were on the smallish side but in flavor they were ok. Rate them a "B-." At the counter you serve yourself to a shrimp cocktail sauce and a tarter sauce for the fish. The shrimp cocktail sauce was not good. It had no horseradish kick and no noticeable flavor. Rate it a "C-." The tarter sauce had absolutely no flavor. Rate it a "C-" or perhaps a "D." The waffle fries were fair as waffle fries go. Not great but ok. Rate them a "B." The crab cake had the same crispy batter but it had no crab meat flavor whatsoever. It was somewhat dry. Not good. Rate it a "C-" or perhaps a "D." The hushpuppies were terrible, dry and flavorless. Rate them a big fat "D." The little cheese bites were the worst of the lot, dry and chewy, and flavorless. Virtually inedible. Rate them an "F." If you go to Long John's stay with the fish and shrimp and choose sides that are not fried. With so many "c" and "d-" foods served this day and fish and shrimp sauces so mediocre I cannot rate this Long John's any higher than two and three quarter stars...below average even for fast food. At the end of the day there was nothing served here that would qualify as excellent or even "really" good! read more

We haven't eaten at LJS in a very long time since they closed down all the Arizona ones. We were passing thru and I jokingly said I wish there was one in cruces. Low and behold there is. Not the best neighborhood but the building and inside looked brand new. The staff working yesterday were very busy but the orders moved along quickly. My first bite of shrimp was heaven!! I then remembered why we loved LJS. We had eaten at red lobster the night before and the shrimp at Long John's tasted way better!! They checked on us a few times making sure everything was ok while they were cleaning tables. Only down side was they were out of ketchup till Wednesday. I understand running out on a long weekend but the grocery store is close by. Anyways I'm sure we'll stop in again now that I know it's there!! read more

I just finished eating at this Long John Silvers and this has been the best fast food experience since moving to Las Cruces 4 months ago. The restaurant was spotless, the dinner crew was attentive, and the food was perfectly prepared. That has not been our experience at many other fast-food establishments. They will definitely be getting more of our business and I can highly recommend them for fish, shrimp, and chicken. So... They drive thru speaker is so bad you can't hear the person inside very well. I know this as I get a meal every few weeks for my mother. Today, I walked in and was surprised by the clean and bright well kept seating area. I ordered a Fish and Shrimp combo and paid $8.69 with a drink and one side. I looked online later and the same meal is $5.99, not $8.69. I tried several times to phone the manager and they too busy to answer the phone. What's wrong with businesses today? Used to live on the Coast and have Fish and Chips when I was a kid. With all the rave about how healthy fish is, I'd been trying to get into it... and have tried frozen fish sticks, just to find them utterly fishy and gross. So, I finally made the jump to Long John Silver's and actually tried the battered fish. Now, I had tried the battered chicken years and years ago... and, quite frankly, it tasted like fish. That was years ago though, and I think they've improved since then. So I get this battered fish and it was unbelievable. And you've got to have the fish with the malt vinegar. Don't know if this fish was "fishy" tasting, I don't know because the Malt Vinegar probably cut the fishy flavor altogether. I'd dip the fish in the vinegar and take a few bites, so I doubt that it was all about the vinegar cutting the fishy taste... this fish, simply didn't taste "real" fishy. The batter was perfect and tasted like it did when I was a kid on the Coast. I was pleasantly surprised. I've been back a few times since then and plan on making this a regular stop. Coupons are readily available in the weekly flyers that come in the mail... I think they are in there about once a month. Plus they have coupons online that are printable. Such a deal! I'm going to give them 1 star because you get what you pay for. When you pay for fast food knowing its breaded, fried and basically non healthy filler junk you get what you went in for. You don't go to fast food expecting Ramsay style. I ordered from here and I've got to say I'd never been here before but I'd passed it a few times. I get a craving on occasion so here we go. I ordered with a friend so we basically got most of the menu. We got the super sampler platter which comes with 2 Fish, Chicken, & 3 Shrimp as well as a choice of 2 Homestyle Sides & 2 Golden Hushpuppies. We also got the cod and shrimp meal which includes 2 choices of Homestyle Sides & 2 Golden Hushpuppies. We added on clams, crab cake, pineapple cream pie and chocolate Hershey pie. Starting with the super sampler platter which comes with 2 Fish, Chicken, & 3 Shrimp as well as a choice of 2 Homestyle Sides & 2 Golden Hushpuppies. We got fries and rice as sides. The platter is large and sadly cold. Fries are covering the whole meal, they are stone cold and floppy. Fish chicken and shrimp are ok but cold in middle. I find microwaving things makes it better. Rice is ok but cold also. The cod and shrimp meal which includes 2 choices of Homestyle Sides & 2 Golden Hushpuppies. We got fries and soup(not my call). Fries again are stone cold and fish was cold also. Back to the microwave. Soup was highly onion scented and yellow pasty color. Not at all appetizing. The clams are pieces and edible but cold, crab cake is over fried and somehow cold. The pineapple cream pie and chocolate Hershey pie are defrosted, slimy and gooey. These should be cooled and chilled but I'm guessing the fridge is broken or they don't care. It's like stabbing a pudding cup and soggy graham cracker with a fork. We ended up spending about 24.00 for al but I'm not entirely sure it was worth it. Luckily they had tartar sauce to make the food taste better and napkins in the billion count. After craving for so long I have to say I'm sadly not impressed and think I will be sticking to the seafood section at the grocery store and probley buying a fry daddy style deep fryer. Spouse and I had their baked fish "meals"; her the salmon, me the tilapia. Cost for their mediocre quality was too high for the quality of the food and portions sizes, no fault of the staff, who were clean, attentive and professional to expected standards. Not a good food value considering the prices were $17.39 for just 2 adult meals. Forget the $2.99 Fish & More days - they are long gone, along with the Long John. Average menu item is well over $7.39, making it a tough choice over the McD's type places, unless you are willing to pay dearly for the variety. Do NOT be fooled by the photo depictions of the food - very deceptive. The so called steamed vegetables did not resemble nor TASTE like real food and the "natural-looking" rice was commercially boiled, white rice fresh from the boil-it bag - operative word, at least it was "fresh" to order - took 15 minutes which was kind of slow for the low volume pace with 5 employees at dinner time. Portions are disappointing. One could wolf down the barely 2.5 oz. of fish in three health bites, if you can stand the excessive seasoning to conceal any question of its true quality. Another score reducer for value. Soda dispenser is self-serve, so get all the refills you want from a small size for some savings; however the brix mix of syrup to carbonated water leans to light; just enough to taste like the real Pepsi (that's right, not Coke products). Restrooms were tight quarters, single user; tolerable. Inoperative soap dispenser, but hand towels worked without pesky hair dryer. Sanitation might be questionable if employees aren't using real soap in the shared restroom with staff and customers. I've seen worse, but know they are capable of much better. read more

IT'S OK IF YOU'RE TIRED OF BURGERS Ambiance at Long John's......ok for fast food. Service at Long John's......ok...typical for fast food. (Took ten minutes to get food after ordering.) Menu.....a little limited. Food.....ok for fast food. I found the hush puppies not so great....not a lot of flavor. The breaded and fried fish were ok.....nothing great. The cole slaw was ok, the fries mediocre, the shrimp were sort of ok. The tarter sauce and cocktail sauce had little flavor. Nothing bad to report but nothing to make you really want to return either. At least the food was not too greasy. Restaurant rating......about TWO-AND-THREE-QUARTER STARS.....meaning, sort of mediocre.....even for fast food. Not poor but just sort of there. Yesterday my wife and went to our local Las Cruces, NM Long John Silvers here in town. The restaurant was empty. There was two young lady's working the front counter. When we walked up one left immediately. The other ignored us completely. My wife and I both gave the greeter a greeting with a smile in hopes it would cheer up the young lady at the counter. See continued to completely ignore us and opened the till acting like she was looking for something. At that point my wife and I left, not ringing the bell. Setting in the corner was a young man who worked at the restaurant and he seemed to find this all amusing. Now I called the restaurant after calming down and was told no manager exist and one only comes in on Friday mornings, but he was sick. I will now use social media to get the word out. I dont want people like this handling my food and the local health department should get involved. The place was not clean and the large young lady behind the counter was wearing batter and food all down her gown. Something is not right for a eating establishment to not be ready for a afternoon crowd. When I drove by an hour later the parking lot was still empty, I think I know why now. read more
