Long John Silver's Alaskan Pollock sandwich. Scored 41 out of 50. Good fish, good sauce, crispy breading if a bit oily. Rate it a B

I dropped in at Long John Silver's on El Paseo for lunch and I must say that this restaurant gets a rating of about two and three quarter stars (2 3/4) primarily because their sides were so poor. The restaurant is an order at the counter fast food type of place. You pick your food up at the counter when called. It won't take long...about 8 or 10 minutes. The restaurant is reasonably comfortable for dining, it is clean, and roomy enough between tables. I found the service at the counter pleasant and efficient. Today I sampled a variety of food. Ordered the fish and shrimp platter with two sides. Also ordered a crab cake to check that out. Prices were reasonable. The fish (Atlantic Cod) had a light crispy batter and it was not oily. It could have had more flavor and the fish was not as flakey as one would like but it was fairly good. Rate the fish about a "B." The shrimp also has the nice light batter. The shrimp were on the smallish side but in flavor they were ok. Rate them a "B-." At the counter you serve yourself to a shrimp cocktail sauce and a tarter sauce for the fish. The shrimp cocktail sauce was not good. It had no horseradish kick and no noticeable flavor. Rate it a "C-." The tarter sauce had absolutely no flavor. Rate it a "C-" or perhaps a "D." The waffle fries were fair as waffle fries go. Not great but ok. Rate them a "B." The crab cake had the same crispy batter but it had no crab meat flavor whatsoever. It was somewhat dry. Not good. Rate it a "C-" or perhaps a "D." The hushpuppies were terrible, dry and flavorless. Rate them a big fat "D." The little cheese bites were the worst of the lot, dry and chewy, and flavorless. Virtually inedible. Rate them an "F." If you go to Long John's stay with the fish and shrimp and choose sides that are not fried. With so many "c" and "d-" foods served this day and fish and shrimp sauces so mediocre I cannot rate this Long John's any higher than two and three quarter stars...below average even for fast food. At the end of the day there was nothing served here that would qualify as excellent or even "really" good!

We haven't eaten at LJS in a very long time since they closed down all the Arizona ones. We were passing thru and I jokingly said I wish there was one in cruces. Low and behold there is. Not the best neighborhood but the building and inside looked brand new. The staff working yesterday were very busy but the orders moved along quickly. My first bite of shrimp was heaven!! I then remembered why we loved LJS. We had eaten at red lobster the night before and the shrimp at Long John's tasted way better!! They checked on us a few times making sure everything was ok while they were cleaning tables. Only down side was they were out of ketchup till Wednesday. I understand running out on a long weekend but the grocery store is close by. Anyways I'm sure we'll stop in again now that I know it's there!!

Food was great, fresh and tasty staff was helpful and friendly. Restaurant was clean but table was very sticky was the only bad thing.

This location never disappoints! In El Paso, we don't live close to any locations so whenever we visit Las Cruces, we always stop by for some food! This time around we decided to eat inside and everything was fantastic! The young man at the cashier was very nice and helpful! Our food was brought out in a good time and everything tasted great! Will definitely be back next time we are in Las Cruces!

Our son has lived in Las Cruces more than a year now and is always raving about this restaurant. I had high expectations. This restaurant chain was founded in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1996. It opened its first and only restaurant, "Los Primeros", in New Mexico, in Las Cruces, in February 2018. Let me say, this restaurant specializes in one thing, chicken fingers. Although you can also get a chicken sandwich here. You won't find pieces of fried chicken, or biscuits, or mashed potatoes. I kind of liked that. They do one thing, and do it well. We ordered 2 Box Combos (4 chicken fingers, crinkle cut fries, Texas toast, coleslaw, dipping sauce and Iced Tea) and a 3 finger combo. Chicken breast tenderloins were fried fresh and didn't sit under heat lamps. The meat oozed juices and the breading had just the right amount of crunch. I subtracted one star because the breading could be seasoned just a tad more. Texas toast had sesame seeds and the butter and garlic they brushed on made it pop. The fresh coleslaw cabbage was crisp and the Cane's dipping sauce had the right amount of tang to complement the crunchy chicken. Crinkle cut fries were good, but needed salt. I could tell the unsweetened Iced Tea had been freshly brewed and it wasn't watered down (what I would expect from a Louisiana based restaurant). We paid $24.53 for a delicious, filling lunch. Definitely will be hitting up this spot again when in Las Cruces.

We had actually tried out a new place, and were gravely disappointed. Two words, "fake" "meat". So, yeah, with the nastiness of the previous place leaving us yearning for a good burger (other than those from home!), we were in the area after a long day of sports nearby, and decided to grab a couple of burgers. Again, it's not fast food. There were some disappointments, but not deal breakers... 1) The burger patty on my burger was about 2" x 3" It was pretty d TINY!! But...at least it was real meat, lol!! And THAT is what we went there for. The bun? These are homemade and usually very good. The top bun on my burger was hard as a rock. It was either stale to begin with, or microwaved after it was toasted. Not too much of a deal cus I'm low carb anyway, though I had planned on breaking my diet for what I already knew would be a tasty house made bun. So, I wasn't too put off, by having an inedible bun. As it was, the under bun was perfect, and toasted with garlic.... and I DID break my diet for this, which I ate by itself. This bread is tdf! So there's that! Since I planned on breaking my diet anyway, I went ahead and order fries. The fries were not greasy like they used to be years ago. But they didn't seem fresh either, like they were years ago. Not soggy, not bad. I'll let it pass. We don't like seasonings on our fries so we got them "naked", and they were actually pretty good that way. No salt, nothing (though I did, later on pour on some gooey cheese for some nice cheese fries). The burger itself was good. I got the mushroom swiss burger. I'm not so sure that the white goo on my burger was swiss though. I've never seen swiss melt into almost nothing like that before. Perhaps it was grated? Still, never seen gooey almost liquid swiss before. I think it was either "swiss cheese product" (white american cheese), or provolone or something. Would have been nice, like tdf if it had been real swiss cheese. The grilled onions, fresh meat, fresh bottom bun (lol) made this burger. Also, again, I appreciate that they put garnishments on the side. I just ate them straight up, including the giant leaf of lettuce. A good overall meal. So even if Voodoo disappoints in some areas, there's always a treasure somewhere, and it was an enjoyable meal. Take away from this... wish the buns weren't stale or microwaved. Wish the burger patty was a decent size, not slider sized. Wish the swiss cheese was real swiss cheese. Not even gonna say I wish prices were lower, that's a given. My burger with fries was over $15.
