We started with the street corn ' on the cob or off.' we were sharing, so it made it great that we didn't have to eat it off the cob! I had the $16 lunch special, a grilled mahi taco and the Carnitas (extra grilled, TY!!) taco. I added the rice and beans for an extra two dollars. The best part was that one was on a homemade flour tortilla and the other was on a homemade corn tortilla. Did you hear that, HOMEMADE TORTILLAS!!! And her suggestion of doing the Carnitas with the corn and the fish on the flour tortilla was perfect!! Just an overall amazing experience, on what she didn't know, which was my husband of 28 years was adopting my 31 year old daughter at the courthouse around the corner immediately following our lunch!! Wanted to go to a restaurant that was very close to the Renaissance Hotel since this northerner with a group of northern teens were not equipped to handle walking around in 114 degree heat. We booked on Open Table and were able to reserve a table for 8. Our server was extremely friendly and efficient and checked on us several times throughout the dinner keeping our water glasses full. This is a great spot downtown for some food or a drink. It's in a good location that is convenient to all the stadiums and most music venues downtown too. The complimentary chips and salsa are fresh and tasty. They have great service too and try to make sure they're on top of refills. This last time we tried the queso fundido and it was really good. I also got the short rib machaca chimichanga and made it "Sam style" with an extra crunchy taco. It was a lot of food and I couldn't finish it all, but it was all delicious. So my wife and I stopped here after a show we had just got out of on 4-11-26 at about 430 pm. We were sat and waited for our server Donte to show up and I don't know if he was new but man he was not a good server. We first ordered drinks my wife got a traditional margarita and I got the jalapeño pineapple margarita. I mean there were ok but definitely have had better. The cups they served it in is not the appropriate cups for this drink. Along with the drinks came the chips and salsa which were surprisingly good. Now the food. My wife ordered the chimichanga with red sauce and i ordered shrimp tacos. Nearly 35 mins later and 2 basket of chips gone our food arrives. Her chimichanga was covered in green sauce not red like she ordered and my shrimp tacos were inedible. The shrimp was sooo hard I literally couldn't pull them apart and the crunch I heard while I tried to chew it (which is a clear indicator that it's way over cooked) grossed me out. When my waiter finally came around, after stopping at the table behind us and the 2 tables in front of us, I let him know how bad these tacos were. He took my food and exchanged it for birria tacos. I didn't have to wait long before my tacos arrived. Again they were good but not great. So as we finished our dinner the waiter was nowhere to be found. 11 mins later he comes outside where we were sitting didn't acknowledge us and once again went to the other tables around us. He does whatever it is the other patrons asked him to and goes back inside. When he comes back out he had a tray of drinks dropping them off at the previous tables mentioned and then once again heads back inside. Luckily I grabbed his attention prior him to completing going inside and asked him for a box. Now I was in the food business for almost 16 years and managed servers in those 16 years. Most servers understand when a patron asks for a box to go that usually means they're done and ready to go, so naturally you'd think as he's retrieving the box you'd bring the check. Nope not Donte he brings the box and walks away. Comes back later to pick up the dirty dishes and continues to walk away again, I had to tell him we wanted our check. With all the choices in downtown for food and drink id avoid this one for sure. To think we were up in the air between this place and Arrogant Butcher. Clearly we chose wrong. And one more thing when food gets returned for whatever reason a manager should make an appearance. Nope not here read more

Let me start with the atmosphere: vibe is chill mixed with a club like mix. Loved the music which was upbeat but yet I didn't feel rushed at all . Service: we sat at the bar because there was a wait for a table and we didn't make a reservation. That being said although the bartenders were very busy making drinks they were friendly and efficient. Good: the food was presented beautifully and tasted very wonderful. Not your traditional Mexican faire. It had kind of a unique twist. I want to say like a Cuban or Puerto Rican twist because the rice and beans reminded me of a dish I had that was Puerto Rican. But it was so yummy salsa was good but needed a little more spice. Chips were crisp but needed more salt. Otherwise hats off to the chefs. Drinks: I had "the new skinny" margarita and the flavor was decent but I need more tequila in my margs. I did like that it was more sour than sweet which is how a margarita should be and that it was made with lime juice and agave instead of sour mix. My favorite was my shot of clase azul reposado! For some inexplicable reason, I very rarely go out to eat at Mexican restaurants. But it's places like Blanco that make me do some self-reflection because what the heck? It's so good! I'm not from the Phoenix area, so I didn't have any background knowledge about the food scene downtown. My friend suggested this place after doing some Internet searching, so I gladly trusted her and tried it out with an open mind! I have to say, I was very impressed by the ambiance of the restaurant. As I walked in, it was bustling with patrons, waiters, and staff. It's very lively inside and the decor (especially the wall art) is beautifully on theme. We were seated immediately and given the chance to view the menu, which had so many options that I wanted to try! But ultimately, I decided on the chicken al pastor tacos with chazzo beans and rice. While we waited for our food, the waitress brought out some chips and salsa. The chips were perfectly crunchy and the salsa had a bit of a spicy tang to it, which I enjoyed. When the food arrived, I was pleasantly surprised by the generous portions! Just look at the size of that plate! I could immediately tell that the corn tortillas were made fresh and in-house; they were soft and pliable, yet not too thin or thick. The entire dish was elevated with thin slices of pineapple, which added a subtle sweetness to balance the savory flavors added by the seasoned chicken. I'm usually not the biggest fan of beans, but the chazzo beans were pretty good and didn't taste too 'beany,' as they were seasoned tastefully. I came in "not that hungry," but I finished my entire plate, haha. Quite clearly, I really enjoyed my experience at Blanco and would highly recommend it to others in the area! read more

If you're a tourist from the Midwest and have never had Mexican food, this is the place for you. Nice atmosphere and friendly service. But if you've had true, authentic Mexican food keep driving! The tacos were ok, 3 stars. The beans looked too icky to try. The rice was good but very heavy handed on the butter. Chips were ok for thicker, highly processed store bought chips. Salsa was reminiscent of Pace Picante out of a jar. The most disappointing of it all: the Dodge Cadillac Margarita was literally disgusting! Honestly one of the worst I've ever had. Tasted like Limeaid with very little alcohol (if any?) that literally puckered every part of your body like biting into a lemon or a lime. Bill was $87.85 for the privilege of leaving behind our margaritas. Sadly we will never be back. If you're going to an event at PHX Arena and want to grab a bite nearby beforehand, I highly recommend Blanco. It's a 3-minute walk from the arena and takes reservations. My friend and I were going to a concert at the arena, so we planned ahead and made a reservation. I'm so glad we did because there were a lot of people waiting for a table. The place was packed and pretty loud. They started us off with chips and salsa. The last time I was here, I got the Pork Chile Verde bowl ($17) and really enjoyed it. This time, I was feeling breakfast food so I got the Baja Breakfast Burrito ($14) - scrambled eggs, bacon, French fries, green chile, and cheddar cheese, served with a side of hot sauce, rice, black or charro beans, and a little bit of sour cream, guacamole, and pico de gallo. It was so good and very filling. I also got the Mezcalito ($15) - Del Maguey Vida mezcal, toasted cinnamon, and smashed orange. Aside from the smokiness of the mezcal, it was a refreshing drink. Came here after seeing a recommendation from Christine T. It was Sunday evening with an event downtown and I didn't make a reservation. (Highly recommended though). Fresh jalapeños, spicy and a wedge of pineapple, sweet . We ordered the spicy mango ceviche that was absolutely delicious, we ordered an extra to go. We solit the mix grill fajita (steak, chicken, and shrimp) SKRIMP with corn tortillas. The tortillas were warm and fresh the fajitas were also very good. The shrimp was seasoned perfectly, the steak was juicy. The chicken was flavorful but the chipotle sauce was a little sweet and reminded me more of BBQ sauce. The veggies perfect and sizzling. Came here with a huge group of coworkers for a dinner while staying for a conference at the convention center. The food was incredibly tasty, drinks were good, and staff were friendly and working hard. We shared a variety of apps including the guac, queso, and tamale. The guac and queso were very good. Chips were good and kept coming. For my entree I got the chopped salad but with shrimp instead of chicken and it was one of the best salads I have ever had. My coworkers were happy with their tacos and fajitas and it all looked good. The ranch water is a great drink as was the skinny spicy margarita. I remembered this "chain" from being in Houston and remembered the queso was so good. I wasn't in the mood for "dinner" per se, but the idea of eating was in my head (it usually is). It was getting late and it was somewhat close to the hotel so I decided to have a drink with my queso. The cheese dip was good with the addition of pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream and ground beef. I wish they had a chorizo option as that would be killer, but the beef was acceptable. There were plenty of chips too which is a plus when that's your meal! The margarita was good but what is it with this tiny ass drinks? It was a few sips and gone. No buzz, no nothing. The drink was disappointing. Service was just OK. I was there about 1/2 hour till closing and they were doing their cleaning up routine and winding down. We stopped in at Blanco before a downtown show. There is free parking with validation in the parking garage nearby, which was nice. Our experience here started when we walked in. We did not have a reservation but many tables were open, we were told that the wait would be 25 min, I asked about outside seating and got a very snarky response back that the 25 min was for indoor or outdoor. We were short on time so ended up sitting at the bar, which was open seating. It took a very long time for the bartender to take our order. We ordered the queso with ground beef and carne asada bowl. They were both okay: the queso was runny and the ground beef reminded me of what you get at Taco Bell. We quickly ran out of chips (they did not bring any with the queso specifically) and could not find anyone to ask for more for some time. The carne asada itself was very good, but there was sour cream and guacamole on it which was not stated on the menu (my partner does not like them and would have asked for it without). Finally we finished eating and paid online (our bill was $50 for two sodas, an appetizer and an entree which seemed a bit high for the quality of service and food) before leaving this lackluster restaurant. I would go back only if it was convenient for a show, I would not make a special trip downtown to go here. read more
