So my wife and I stopped here after a show we had just got out of on 4-11-26 at about 430 pm. We were sat and waited for our server Donte to show up and I don't know if he was new but man he was not a good server. We first ordered drinks my wife got a traditional margarita and I got the jalapeño pineapple margarita. I mean there were ok but definitely have had better. The cups they served it in is not the appropriate cups for this drink. Along with the drinks came the chips and salsa which were surprisingly good. Now the food. My wife ordered the chimichanga with red sauce and i ordered shrimp tacos. Nearly 35 mins later and 2 basket of chips gone our food arrives. Her chimichanga was covered in green sauce not red like she ordered and my shrimp tacos were inedible. The shrimp was sooo hard I literally couldn't pull them apart and the crunch I heard while I tried to chew it (which is a clear indicator that it's way over cooked) grossed me out. When my waiter finally came around, after stopping at the table behind us and the 2 tables in front of us, I let him know how bad these tacos were. He took my food and exchanged it for birria tacos. I didn't have to wait long before my tacos arrived. Again they were good but not great. So as we finished our dinner the waiter was nowhere to be found. 11 mins later he comes outside where we were sitting didn't acknowledge us and once again went to the other tables around us. He does whatever it is the other patrons asked him to and goes back inside. When he comes back out he had a tray of drinks dropping them off at the previous tables mentioned and then once again heads back inside. Luckily I grabbed his attention prior him to completing going inside and asked him for a box. Now I was in the food business for almost 16 years and managed servers in those 16 years. Most servers understand when a patron asks for a box to go that usually means they're done and ready to go, so naturally you'd think as he's retrieving the box you'd bring the check. Nope not Donte he brings the box and walks away. Comes back later to pick up the dirty dishes and continues to walk away again, I had to tell him we wanted our check. With all the choices in downtown for food and drink id avoid this one for sure. To think we were up in the air between this place and Arrogant Butcher. Clearly we chose wrong. We had just been to a show at the science center and wanted a good meal close by. We found this spot hoping for good food. Unfortunately, this was average at best. I had the chicken salad which was good - just not great or even really good. The margarita was a bit better than average. The grilled Mexican street corn was pretty good and probably the best thing we had. I had ordered a crispy beef taco and it was far too salty and overly spiced (not hot but just tasted liked they dumped the whole can of spice into the meat). This is the second location. I've tried of Blanco cocina and Cantina and I recommend always stopping in. We came in for the margarita special and ended up getting the margarita tree, which is four margaritas whatever flavor you would like. We sat at the bar and we're taking care of quickly. And the location has an indoor outdoor bar so if you're sitting on one side of the bar, you are on the side of the street where you can see everything and be outside. Have been passing by Blanco for a few months now whenever I would come downtown I finally got a chance to check it out after work. It was the lunch rush so every table was full, so I ending up sitting at the bar. The bar was a little cluttered from the rush, but the bartender quickly cleaned everything up and grabbed me a menu. While checking out the menu I checked out others food and was so excited by the colors and the portion sizes--wow! I decided to get the chicken tings bowl and when I got it, well it was smaller than I expected, but the taste was phenomenal! The chicken was tender and so seasoned well and complimented the queso, sour cream, salsa, and guacamole! Wow! I would come back for another bowl or even some enchiladas which looked amazing!! The staff were kind and patient as I finally decided to get the Agua fresco with pomegranate, which I was told by them was a new menu item. It was super refreshing and so delicious! My team for my job I went to this location since it's right across the street from my job for all day happy hour on Tuesdays on certain drinks and food specials. There was a laid back vibe and all the staff was very attentive and friendly. We started with Margaritas, I had the Mango Stand and my friend had the Rosa Bonita, both were fresh and delicious. The best part was that one was on a homemade flour tortilla and the other was on a homemade corn tortilla. Did you hear that, HOMEMADE TORTILLAS!!! Three days prior to the date our party emailed and said the total amount of people would be less. Our party included 14 children and they charged adult prices. This Blanco location is a perfect meetup for friends heading to a game, as it is only a few blocks from each venue. We love the comfortable booths and the fun decor.
