The culinary highlight of our trip! Service was top notch and the space is spectacular and so charming. Highly recommend checking this place out for date night or special occasions. This place delivered the gastronomical experience that Mexico city promises. Do plan in advance and make reservations; they were packed. Wait staff is efficient, so accommodating, gave us recommendations and the whole experience was impeccable. We did use google translate to ask questions but always got the assistance we needed. We tried the lizzy sour and the san cristobal cocktails and enjoyed them both. The lizzy sour was tart, something I prefer and came in an oversized glass. The cristobal was on the sweeter side and a fruity tropical drink. Shout out to the bartender who noticed us admiring the lychee drink he was making for a different table and passed along a bowl of lychees for us to enjoy. We got a bunch of tapas style food plates to try and everything was executed well and had unique flavor pairings. The pistachio zucchini ravioli isn't your traditional ravioli but zucchini rolls filled with nuts cream and sauce and was delicious. We also enjoyed the asparagus risotto and the suckling pig tacos. The service and venue is superb. It is the former residence of the doctor of Mexico's longest reigning dictator. The music is a little loud for our liking. It is a live dj thou so that is cool. There was thunder and a bit of drizzling and the screen immediately move to shut to shield us from the elements. Such good food in a fantastic atmosphere! The restaurant is located in gorgeous French-influenced, Porfirian-style house in Roma Norte. The exterior is beautiful and the ambiance really sets the scene for your meal. We came for an early dinner and arrived while the sun was still shining and the light really made the interior just gorgeous. We were seated on the balcony overlooking the open space below and I loved how much open air we had. For food, we ordered the hamachi crudo to start and then the confit pork tacos and robalo grilled bass w/an olive potato sauce as mains. They start you off with complimentary grilled artichokes which were great! Every dish was super yummy and our favorite was the bass which was covered in a creamy rich sauce that was absolutely addicting. I also loved the complimentary seeded bread that they serve which really helps make your meal more substantial even if you order lighter dishes. We went to Mexico City for a recent trip to celebrate a friend's milestone. Our reservation was for 6 people and the restaurant accommodated us well. We ate at Blanco Colimo on a Saturday night - there was a DJ playing tunes nearby. Since we were hungry from a long day of walking, we ordered lots - the salt fish, poblano duck, blue shrimp, steak & frites, caesar salad, young hamachi, tuna tostadas. The tuna tostadas were hands down a burst of flavors. I described it as a twist on sushi/tempura on a tostada. The tuna was fresh and flavors were amazing. As we were a party of 6, we ordered 6 pieces of the tostada. Each serving is a single serving. My friends ordered the jalapeno margarita, which was amazingly refreshing and strong. The other items that were notable were the blue shrimp, and steak. We had plenty leftover at the end of the night for the next day. Highly recommend the place if you are in Mexico City! read more

It looked like a great spot to try and also later our hotel manager recommended it too ... so we figured we couldn't go wrong! Blanco Colima is an incredible modern Mexico city style restaurant. Its located in a beautiful house with multiple dining room spaces. Menu is full of classics like tostadas, ceviches and other modern creative takes on local cuisine. We visited during Day of the Dead and enjoyed seasonal drinks (see pictures) in a seasonally decorated setting. Beautiful atmosphere in a dark, clubby setting. TLDR: maybe it was a bad night for the restaurant. Blanco Colima gives you a beautiful setting with an atmosphere/ambience that deserves a solid 9/10. The historic building and elegant design make it a top place to dine, though it didn't completely meet my expectations for such a well-regarded venue. Unfortunately, the food was quite disappointing, earning only a 3/10. The duck confit was far from tender -- it was so tough that the entire plate would move as I tried to cut through it. We got the chaquitos as well which were way over-salted, making them nearly impossible to actually enjoy. The steak tartare was also bland; I was expecting flavors ranging from spices to citrus. Ironically this dish had no salt. The service was decent, hovering around 6.5/10. While the staff was polite and attentive, the overall experience could have been smoother, particularly with more guidance on the menu given the issues with the dishes. Overall, while the ambience was nice, the food did not live up to the high expectations set by the venue's reputation. Like I said earlier, maybe this was just a bad night for them. Given the reputation, I would come back to try it again; hoping for a better experience. read more

I wrote a different review about the more famous place that gets all the credit for being #1, but that place is so expensive that it may not be reasonable (or affordable) for everyone. Blanco Colima delivers on both food and price. First of all, the restaurant ambiance is awesome. Quaint 2 story looking brownstone that appears to have been converted into a restaurant. The place is a bit cramped due to this, but you wont really feel it or mind it as the energy is great in there. The food, is astoundingly good. They had a seasonal dish available (Chilies en Nogada) that our local recommended, and it was fantastic. I highly recommend you come here if planning a visit. This place is simply 'superb' we enjoyed everything about it; beautiful place, excellent food and generous service. True gastronomical experience that CDMX promises. Found this place by chance on trip advisor and fell in love. We were warmly greeted, seated comfortably in the balcony overlooking the main road and were taken care throughout by our server. We were given a tasting of few mezcals and settled on delicious Creyente Cuishe. Suckling pig tacos with melt in mouth meat and crispy Tuna tostada as appetizers were delicious. For mains I went for Milpa sea bass with Pumpkin seeds and my friend tried Mushroom with duck ravioli. Every dish as per me was 5/5 but the bomb of the evening was our dessert 'Lemon surprise'; one of the most delicious desserts I have ever had. White chocolate shell filled with lemon soufflé was truly soul satisfying. We were blown away. The manager also reached out to check on us occasionally. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the city. Don't miss it out for the world. Honestly NYC restaurants really need to pace up. Solo female travelers and those with allergies beware!!! I hate writing 1 star reviews for business, but feel I must do this to spread awareness! Due to a death in the family, my birthday trip that was supposed to be my boyfriend and I ended up just being me. I decided to treat myself for my birthday lunch and head to this very hyped restaurant! I will start with the positives and say the building is stunning with an amazing ambiance and I loved my shrimp entree and Aperol Spritz. I had about 3 different people taking care of me, which is fine. I wouldn't say that anyone was my "server" because I had different people coming up to me checking on me the entire experience. I ordered a side of asparagus, which on both the Spanish and English menu (attached below) says only grilled Asparagus came cold covered in nuts and cheese. If you have a nut allergy beware that the menu does not list the full ingredient of dishes! I really enjoyed my time here until it came time to pay the bill. One of the servers dropped the bill. While I was inspecting it he stood over me. The server never walked away to give me any space. I nervously started counting my pesos. When I started putting money down he raised his voice and said "That's not enough for a Tip!" And I just mumbled an apology. I work in the service industry in the US. My tipping minimum is 20% wherever I go! I was planning on tipping that. I have traveled to many counties world wide and I have never had a server stand over me while I paid trying to intimidate me! I was so nervous, I started putting more pesos down trying to please him. He abruptly grabbed my money and check. He rolled his eyes, scoffed, and said "puta estupida (stupid b**ch)" as he walked away. I was tempted to talk to a manager and realized it was also a man and was worried he would side with his employee, so I ran out. I called my boyfriend who is from Mexico, who let me know sadly it is a common practice for men to try to take advantage of solo travelers or girls in pairs to pay them more. Horrible customer service and ruined my birthday meal! I post this review in hopes that the manager will train their employees better to make this restaurant a safe and comfortable environment for everyone! read more

We were in Mexico City for just 3 full days and every meal was important to us. Went here for lunch and we were shocked how bad the food was considering this place has such great reviews!!! We ordered asparagus risotto and a pork fried rice. Both were basically salt bombs. I never ever send food back to the kitchen but this one particularly was inedible. Sent it back, but to my disappointment, it came back just more watery but no change to the taste. I had just a few bites and it made me super nauseous. Considering this is a "star" restaurant, I expected them to take it off the bill but unfortunately that didn't happen. My partner had a pretty bad stomach upset after eating the pork fried rice. We pretty much had to cancel the plans for the day. We were pretty upset at ourselves for picking this restaurant over Rosetta next door! read more

I agree with some of the other reviewers to order tapas style and just get a bunch of things to share. We had the tuna tostadas, the raw hamachi to start, then had the beet and burrata and the jamón croquettes, and then tried the duck ravioli. The beet and burrata was amazing, the hamachi was also another favorite. Think the tuna tostada at Contramar and Corriente are better as well. I did not love the duck ravioli - the duck was a bit dry in my opinion which is odd because I usually find duck to be a greasy meat and it was a bit overpowering with the mushroom flavor. Extremely rich. My husband liked it but I wasn't in the mood for really heavy food. Dessert was redemption time for me though. We had the chocolate cigarrillo and the cheesecake. The cheesecake was incredible- it was more of a corn muffin with savory melted cheese inside but it was so deliciously paired with a very bright lemon sorbet so it was perfectly balanced. read more

Awesome restaurant! The building is gorgeous, colonial vibes with great decor, lots of sitting and a very open space. The service was on top of everything l, making sure some of the dietary restrictions from our table were met and offering other options instead. The menu has a good variety of dishes, from fish to meat and vegetarian options. We ordered a lot of things to the middle and shared almost everything. Some of my favorite dishes were the octopus chicharron, burrata, avocado carpaccio, shrimps and one a whole dish (the star of the menu), everything was so good, full of flavors and very fresh. They have some interesting cocktails and a good list of wines. There was a DJ playing some music, making the night perfect! Prices were fair, in the middle-high tear but totally worth it. This place has style in spades - it's a converted 100+ year old residence with loads of original charm. Service is very attentive and friendly. The food is pretty solid; I didn't take many photos because of the dim (romantic) lighting, but we tried the iberico ham croquettes (pretty good representation of a Spanish classic - verrrry rich), the bluefin tostada (a little too heavily sauced imo), the kampachi (letter perfect), the milpa sea bass with corn, and the steak frites. Entrees are enormous - we could have stood to have ordered one less for the table, and still have been satisfied. We felt obligated to try the signature "lemon surprise" dessert - it was alright. It's a twist on the Cedric Grolet fruit "surprises" that have taken the confection world by storm. Unfortunately the mousse/compote filling wasn't as bright/lemony/tasty has I was hoping for, but it sure is an adorable "fake" (it looks like a real lemon - the white chocolate shell is impressive). read more

The foie gras was super buttery, decadent, and wen extremely well with the figs and fog jam that came along with it. The filet mignon was decent, but honestly I expected something better. The meat didn't seem to be of the highest of quality and overall flavor was a bit disappointing. The potatoes in between each layer of steak was a nice touch, but they seemed a bit under cooked and still a bit hard/starchy. Beef tacos had a great presentation but were quite bland. There was plenty of wait staff walking all over, and the place wasn't that busy. Finally a waiter stopped by and asked us what type of water we wanted, we told him, but he never came back. There was a group of waiters standing in the corner taking, they kept looking over at us but never came over. Eventually another waiter came and asked what type of water we wanted, but he never came back. It was like they were deliberately not serving us! Maybe they are prejudiced about who they serve! There are several bar areas, dining inside, outside, and on the balcony. The cocktails were small, but delicious. I realize you cannot eat beauty, and the food isn't as remarkable here as the decor, but it is enjoyable and coupled with the setting, this is an unforgettable spot to grab drinks and nibbles, or dinner with friends. read more

Wow! Best meal in CDMX so far! The complementary artichoke appetizer was incredible! It tastes like they use some kind of lemon olive oil & Maldon salt on top. I could drink the olive oil, it is heavenly! It has hints of anchovy, I think? I also loved the house salad! They use the same oil as on the artichoke, and put dollops of olive tapenade that also tastes like it has anchovy in it. Finally, the mushroom risotto blew me away! The only thing I didn't love about it was it was salty, and I wish they gave more mushrooms. But it was delicious! read more
