Been looking for a genuine, respectful, fair, honest and hard working mechanic for a long, long time. Of course Blas happens to be right down my street. But of course, right? Brought my car in for general maintenance @ 95000 miles and Blas gave me a thorough inspection, fair price, and even an extra gift that happened to just be lying around his shop for no extra fee. Blas is very thorough in showing you what needs to be done, what repairs can hold off if finances are tight, what the inspection consists of and is very fair with pricing. If you're in the Eagle Rock area or anywhere in the LA area really, Blas is very busy but he is always willing to work around your schedule to make sure he gets the job done right and efficiently. I was able to drop my car off on a Monday night and pick it up the following day. He tends to try and get everything done on Saturday, so the best time to bring in your car would be on a Monday or Tuesday night, to hopefully pick it up the next day/night. I gave Rantz Auto (very close by) a chance but was not happy with a trick they pulled off with a cousin of mine when she didn't have the finances to cover the maintenance. I won't go into the story but I wish I came to Blas much much earlier for car maintenance and auto related issues. At first his shop was hard to find, but it's actually very simple. You'll see "Z Cars" building in a corner lot that's gated off. His garage is inside that lot, separate business from Z Cars. Don't be afraid to drive in and find his shop. Definitely will come back for all my Auto needs. He can practically do any vehicle and for whatever you might need. These days, mechanics like this are very hard to find. This place gets no stars but yelp needs a min of 1 to be able to post. I called this guy blas for service on my car to repair or replace my motor. He insist to come today so he can do a free inspection on my car same day. Currently my car is inoperable so I had it towed there. So the car gets there at noon and now he says he can't inspect it till tomorrow morning. So I check in with him in the morning and so nothing's been checked. Later that day, I check in with him at the shop and go over my options as its a lot of work. I tell him that I will need to think about which option I like to do and will get back to him. From mister nice guy he turned into mister asshole. Tells me to get my car out, move it now. I inform him the tow truck is a few mins out and he continues to hound me to get the car out. Finally truck comes and we're gone. Don't go here if you have more than 1 question he'll get offended and tell you "What, you don't trust me". read more

I just want to say I wrote a relatively negative 3-star review about Blaus the other day because I wasn't sure if I had been ripped off or not and was uncomfortable with my repair. Blaus read the review on Yelp, and remembered me. He looked me up in his records and called me to apologize and make things right! Short Review: All the good reviews are correct. Long Review: I decided to go to Blas after reading the glowing reviews on Yelp. I have to agree with the positive reviews. I have been taking my 2007 Mazda to the dealership for years but I started to get the feeling they were not being very honest with me. A visit to Blas confirmed that some of the things they had suggested I get repaired were not in need of repair. The things that did need repairing, Blas was able to do cheaper and more quickly than the dealer. Blas also came in on a Holiday weekend so I could pickup the car. He prices his work fairly, explains the problem(s) if any clearly and judging by my car, does the work well. A good and honest and affordable mechanic is hard to find and therefor worth the five star review. read more

Blas is seriously a nice, honest, and helpful man. How many mechanics can you describe this way? He has done multiple jobs on my car from the basic oil change, charging the a/c, fixing the passenger side window elevator, changing the timing belt, and evaluating the evaporating control system. He did all of this with fair prices and transparency. He showed me all of the steps involved and showed me on his computer software the price estimates for parts and labor. I've learned a fair amount about cars because of him. Moreover, for some of the work he charged me only for the part and never charged me the labor! He said he understood that I am a student (he sent 3 of his own kids to college) and we are in a bad economy and was grateful to me for just giving him some business. I can't express what a relief it is to be a female and find an truly good and genuine person to work on my car. Well this the second time I take my car to Bla's but the first time I ever took my car to him, he had fixed major problems in my car, and although it was expensive he did an outstanding job and I was definitely pleased. I'm so glad I found Blas! My other auto repair guy closed due to the economy, and I was unhappy at the thought of finding someone new. I found Blas via Yelp, and drove over there to see about a pesky light on my dashboard. His place is a bit hard to find (it's located in a "strip mall" of similar auto places), but he more than makes up for it. He examined my car, taking great care to check anything that could be wrong. When he figured out the problem he made sure I understood - he even drew me a diagram and circled the parts he thought were broken! I ended up leaving my car there overnight, after he strongly recommended against me driving it. The next day it was good as new! I really enjoyed having Blas fix my car- he made sure I knew what was going on at every step of the way, he made sure I was comfortable with any money I might have to spend, and he did it all in a polite and professional manner. In late March, my wife's Honda CRV started acting up. I noticed that when parked with the engine running and the A/C on, the engine would vibrate and shake the entire vehicle every 20 seconds or so. The shaking would last a couple of seconds, then stop. A few days later, we were driving and the needle on the engine temperature gauge rose until it almost reached the red. We pulled over before it overheated, but obviously something was wrong. Fortunately, we managed to get home. The next morning, I went on Yelp and looked for a mechanic that was nearby. That's when I discovered Blas Auto Repair. I saw the great Yelp reviews and realized he was only a few blocks away. In fact, I had walked past his shop hundreds of times and never realized it. Blas Auto Repair is part of a shared auto repair complex with a few different businesses including at least one body shop. I drove over and Blas immediately dropped what he was doing to look at the CRV. I pointed out the issues I had seen/experienced, and he immediately showed me that the engine and A/C fans weren't moving when the engine was running. I left the car, walked home and within 30 minutes, he called to tell me that the problem was definitely the two fans and that they needed to be replaced. He quoted me a reasonable price for the parts and labor. On that call, I mentioned that MY car had recently failed its smog check not because of the emissions, but due to the visual inspection. At some point when I had serviced my car, someone had taped a valve and a cable in place and unfortunately, I learned that's an automatic fail during the visual inspection. He told me to bring it in later that day, and he'd take a look. Three hours later, I drove my car over and he was unpacking the fans he had ordered for my wife's car. He looked at my car, immediately replaced the cable, then called a couple of places for the valve that needed to be replaced. He told me how much the part was going to cost, and I gave him the go ahead to order it. He finished my wife's CRV a couple of hours later, and it's been running perfectly ever since. The next morning, I drove my car back and he replaced the valve while I waited. I immediately drove back to the smog check station down the street, and had the technician check it again. It passed this time. If you live in Eagle Rock or in one of the surrounding areas, I HIGHLY recommend taking your vehicle to Blas when you need something checked. He's super friendly, likes to show you exactly what he thinks is wrong with the car while you're standing there, and is quite reasonably priced. read more

Blas has always explained to me what was wrong with the car and had given me a choice as to what I want done with the car. Paying $$ to have your car repaired is never fun... but at least you know you wont be over charged or screwed around with at Blas'. You deal directly with the owner, Blas, who is more than helpful and honest. I've come to him twice and he's looked over my car for free both times and then told me the diagnosis and cost. This guy's terrific! I have a 2001 Jetta with a curse on it. Once a month, it seems, it refuses to start. I've taken it many different mechanics around LA, who fix the symptoms but pad the bill with numerous other expenses. Finally, I found Blas through Yelp, and he's as great as they say. He and his assistant immediately started looking at my car, identified the problem, explained what it was and how they were fixing it, and what it costs and why. He always gives my fiance and I great rates and the only thing I can say that's bad is that sometimes I am worried he in UNDERcharging me and I don't want to take advantage of him because he's just such a great guy. I brought my car in to have both axles replaced in January of this year and decided to pay for new axles. After 5 months the car was difficult to drive. The steering wheel had a lot of play and shifted suddenly from left to right. The front wheel on the passenger side was making strange noises like the CV joint was going. . Blas had promised me a warranty and to bring it back if there were any problems, which apparently he does for all of his customers. I stopped by with my receipt. We took it for a test drive and he stated it was indeed the axles. The very next day I brought it back and it was fixed at no charge - axles replaced with new ones. The issue was never with the work done at his shop but with the parts themselves. Not many businesses are as competitively priced as his or for that matter as friendly, accommodating and, most importantly, stand by what they say. Hats off to Blas - I'm a fan. read more

I came in to see Blas' neighbor - Tru-Vu Glass - to get my passenger window replaced and Blas smelled gas coming from my car. Being the caretaker of my car that he is, he opened the hood and figured it out. So, I not only had my side window replaced, I had a fuel pump replaced as well. Simply put, he takes care of me. We just picked up my wife's 2003 Nissan Sentra which needed a new radiator and thermostat. We left the car on Friday and he had it ready the next day. We saved a couple of hundred dollars by going to Blas instead of another auto repair shop in Eagle Rock. It would have been another hundred we saved 'cause the other shop charged us that much just to check it out. Blas is a good mechanic, and because he has a lower overhead, he charges less than most shops around. He's reliable, fair and courteous. We first went to him when he had his shop on York in HP back in about 1989 when he installed a new engine on a 1983 Buick Skyhawk. Since we had moved out of the area we hadn't seen him until now. Car wouldn't start nor jump. Blas recommended a tow truck driver who was very reasonable and service was very quick. Fortunately it was just battery replacement needed. Blas is in a little community of other types of automotive services. They all do slightly different things. Blas is a very good general mechanic who knows everyone there and they work together somewhat. When my tow truck driver unloaded the vehicle 3 owners of neighboring businesses ran to Blas's aid and pushed my car in, and they flashed me a big friendly grin. I took my 626 Mazda in because every time I turned it on it made this nasty screeching noise .Bla explain to me how much the parts were and how long it was going to take so I understood what I was getting . He ended up fixing the problem way sooner then expected. And picked up my car the same day unfortunately the nasty screeching noise has came back so the noise might be more serious then just the bands. read more

At first I was very skeptical about Blas, and upon reading reviews and getting a recommendation I decided to go check him out. He quoted me way less than a previous mechanic who obviously tried to rip me off. He took time and explained to me all the problems and answered all my questions throughly. Upon receiving my car, all the problems were gone and I will be keeping a close eye if any problems consist and it's been about 2 hours since I got the car. However, he is very trustworthy and honest. I'll definitely return to Blas. Thank you! Update: Car began to break down almost every time I drove it. Brought it to Blas and claimed to be the computer overheating and causes the car to work for a few minutes and then die. He just said " I'm sorry. " The problem has been present for awhile now. We brought the car to a different mechanic, happened to be a bad fuel pump! They asked us if someone replaced it or repaired it before. Turns out Blas fixed the fuel pump about a year ago as well. Blas was honest when we asked him about the fuel pump. It was an aftermarket pump and wasn't the original part. Hopefully the fuel pump being replace stops all the problems! I took my car to Blas for an oil change and tune-up. Blas noticed that I had close to 100,00 miles on my car and told me he would look over the whole car and make sure I didn't need any other work done. Well he found out that I needed a few hoses and belts replaced. He showed me the old ones and how they compared to new parts. He then explained what he was going to do and why. While I was waiting for my car, he told me that he had to go buy a few parts. I told him that I wasn't planning on having extra work done and that I had to get home, so Blas gave me a ride home on his way to get the parts. To top everything off, he showed me the receipts for the parts but did not charge me for the extra labor! He actually apologized to ME for having to do extra work. As most I've moved to LA from someplace else. So the laws of nepotism and a childhood founded in this somewhat big city can limit where you can take your vehicle and not get cheated. Blas is the diamond in the rough that you hope is out there, but feel like its impossible to find. I don't write reviews. I use other peoples to make choices, but I needed to speak the truth. He is that fair. He is that good. I had a clutch problem, the same clutch problem I had in 2005, 2007, and this year. I had brought my vehicle to several mechanics, each one "fixed" it for a time. But I still felt unsatisfied. Blas took what easily could been charged 500+ dollars to fix, and fixed my clutch for much less. In fact he replaced vacuum lines that fixed my idle, fixed my power steering, and adjusted my clutch(instead of replacement) and I walked paying 263.00 Please take your car there, and if you like to fish, check his fishing shots out, he loves what he does, and its important to him that he has a reputation of being a good businessman and a good mechanic. I had a 20 min conversation over fishing stories(I spearfish). And then at the end, I was like: "Oh yeah, I have to pay for the car." We bought a 10 yr old used car for my college-aged daughter who then drove it to Pasadena. Over spring break the check engine light went on. I happened to be in town and searched for a nearby repair shop. I found a listing for Blas and called. He was available so we drove in. He read the code for no charge. He suggested that it could be as simple as an improperly closed gas cap. Upon opening it, he (and i) saw that the gasket was cracked. So I could have been on my way for free. I found that kind of service to be remarkable. (The Honda dealer at home had charged us something like $250 to reach the same conclusion on our odyssey.) but my conscience kicked in and I asked for an oil change. we had to come back the next day but he used the correct synthetic, checked the other fluids, filled the tires. etc. He will be our first stop for any future service. read more

I learned of Blas from Yelp. A week ago, I took our 97 Honda, that was overheating, to him. I also asked him to look into a sound coming from one of the wheels. He determined that I needed a new radiator and thermostat. $350 or so. And that the sound in the wheel was just a flat spot on the left rear tire. He recommended that I replace the tire sometime soon. Yesterday the car overheated again. We were far from home, so I let it cool down and rolled it to a service center at a Honda dealer. Their assessment of the overheating problem concluded that the head gasket was blown and coolant was leaking into the engine. They said it was obvious that this was a problem that had been developing for a long time. They didn't think the radiator/thermostat repair was necessary or helpful. The wheel sound I was hearing turned out to be dry bearings, not a flat-spotted tire. Blas said he checked into this. He demonstrated how he wobbled the tire and even test drove it himself. I'm not convinced he did any of this. I think Blas realized that he had not fixed the problem, nor analyzed it correctly. Yet still he was quite content to collect my money. When I picked the car up, for some reason, he opened his wallet to my 2-year-old, gave him $10, and told him to take us all to McDonald's. It seemed like an odd gesture at the time. Now I think it was a smoke screen to keep me from asking too much about the repair work. read more

Blas is the (first) name of the man who owns the shop and does the work. I went to him because of Yelp, and I'm so glad I did! He knew what the problem was over the phone just based on my description, and after double-checking his suspicion when I brought the car in, he told me exactly how much it would cost (very reasonable) and when the car would be ready. He also said that, if he was able to get the part for less than what it showed up as in the computer, that he would pass the savings on to me. I live in the neighborhood and my car was overheating. I wanted to go to my usual guys but they are on the east side of the 605 freeway or my second pick guys who are in Monrovia, but I wasn't sure my truck would make it. I have a Chevy Blazer just shy of 200,000 miles on it. I needed to find a new place that was local. I read the reviews and decided to try Blas. I am soooooo happy I did. He was super busy when I arrived on a Friday. He let me know that he didn't work Saturday but would have my truck ready before the end of the day so I could have it back for the weekend. This made me happy. He fixed me up before the afternoon was over. I didn't feel over charged his price was extremely fair. His helper also fixed my falling off bumper (no one else has ever got to stay on) in some magical way because it is on so securely now I am confident it won't be going anywhere. I will bring my truck back the next time it needs repairs. I'm glad to have found a place to take my truck that is local to me. I feel Blas is extremely competent, reliable and trustworthy.
