Ice cream. After spending the day outside and then grilling out, we (obviously) needed ice cream to complete our Saturday. We popped into Scoops and Cookies because it's not far from our house and because Homer's Ice Cream is always an enticing offer. They have a *ton* of flavors. The screens above the counter showcase everything, while you can see some of the flavors in the case. We sampled a few before deciding on a scoop of cappuccino chip in a sugar cone (mine) and two scoops of butter pecan and cookie dough in a dish (his). We were helped by who we assumed to be the owner, who was friendly and also keeping things moving as groups (understandably) hemmed and hawed over their flavor choices. While we weren't here for cookies this time, they piqued our interest and we'll explore that more on our next visit. There are quite a few tables inside with lots of seating, and everything was clean. Did this just become our new favorite ice cream place? Maybe!

Misericordia is all about offering care and programs/work programs for individuals with mild to profound developmental disabilities. All the baked items that you see in the Shoppe have been baked and packaged by the Misericordia community! All the bakery items at the Misericordia Sweet Shoppe are made by the residents and boy, do they seriously give Chicagoland bakeries a run for their money. Some highlights: - Macaroons: super buttery and delicious, these are some of the best macaroons I have ever tasted - Cookies: These are one of their specialties. We tried the vegan cranberry chocolate cookies per the server's recommendation, and they were heavenly. - Coconut cake: super light, creamy, airy, buttery, coconut-ty. Wow! - Yogurt parfait: unsweetened and serves with berries some deliciously crunchy granolas. We used to order a lot of birthday cakes from this Deerfields Bakery.  They always did an excellent…read morejob.  Our daughter's favorite customized cake was an 8" to 10" chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream filling, and chocolate whipped cream frosting, which was huge, rich, and delicious.  Ever since she was little, it also became a tradition to pick up a big smiley face cookie for her whenever we picked up a cake. Recently, we had ordered a small cake from the Deerfields Bakery in Buffalo Grove, and really loved it.   A few days ago, while I was in the Deerfield area, I decided to stop by the Deerfield location for the first time in at least five or six years. This bakery has gone through a nice renovation. It is clean, bright, modern, and pleasant, just like the one in Buffalo Grove, except that it is a lot smaller.  Since it was after 4:00 pm when I went, within an hour of closing, some of the shelves were already empty, which is understandable and probably a good sign for the business. Out of nostalgia, I purchased a big smiley face cookie for $3.95.   The girl who helped me was very polite and friendly even though I was just purchasing one cookie.  That made the visit even more pleasant.  However, I would likely get some other baked goods instead next time, as this cookie and its icing were quite hard, and just tasted like a lot of sugar. I am deducting one star mostly because of the parking situation.  There are only four parking spaces by the building, once these spaces are occupied, customers have to walk to the parking lot in the back that's diagonal from the bakery, and cross a busy driveway shared with a bank.  This can be especially inconvenient when carrying a cake. Since the Buffalo Grove location is much larger and has its own parking lot that makes parking easy, I will most likely continue going to the Buffalo Grove location unless I happen to be in the Deerfield area.

When I entered I was surprised at the amount of beautiful baked goods in addition to tasty lattes. The staff behind the counter greeted me warmly and were very helpful. I chose a lavender latte and a buttermilk shortcake. I went out to the small patio to enjoy my delicious beverage and snack. If I am in the area again, I will definitely stop in.

So when I saw that Blended Health & Smoothie Bar had prepped meals, I was willing to give it a try. The meals are available pre-ordered or in-store. I bought two of the best-sellers, Egg roll in a bowl and Buffalo chicken. They are fresh, not frozen, keep for about a week, and the macros and calorie counts are on the label. All ingredients are listed and they are all found in your kitchen. I thought these meals were great. The ERIAB was tasty, a larger portion than I expected for under 500 cals and very satisfying. The Buffalo chicken was also delicious, not too spicy, had cauliflower mash instead of potatoes and also under 500 cals. If you scan the QR code you can see the next week's menu. I'd pick up a meal or two to supplement for the week. I tried a juice as well and it was still frozen the next day. It tasted good, although I'm not a juice drinker. This is a welcoming and friendly place and they patiently answered all of my questions. The have smoothies and açaí bowls as well as a waffle bowl (gluten free) that I'd like to try.
