For example, "Cơm Thịt Nướng" is a very common and widely understood dish. Whether someone is from North or South Vietnam, it's a standard menu item. It was surprising to hear that a Vietnamese customer couldn't place a phone order due to pronunciation. Additionally, when my relative asked questions about other Vietnamese dishes on the menu, those questions were dismissed rather than clarified. I later called to confirm what happened, and the response was still dismissive. Instead of clarifying politely, the worker insisted that the issue was her pronunciation, even though the menu items are standard Vietnamese dishes. That interaction felt unprofessional and unnecessary. This was especially disappointing to experience at a Vietnamese restaurant, where customers should feel understood and welcomed when ordering traditional dishes. When I visited in person, I learned from the Vietnamese staff that the restaurant had recently been sold to a new non-Vietnamese owner.
