Tried this place on a whim with a gf and we were very pleased. The woman at the counter was helpful and answered all of our questions. The food was also very tasty and there was no wait. I ordered the fried chicken, mac and cheese, greens and cornbread. The fried chicken was really good, nice and crispy like I like it, the mac and cheese was just alright, and surprisingly the greens tasted great ! They were very well seasoned and that can be a hit or miss with most places. The cornbread was also delicious too. Overall the food was very reasonably priced and tasty. I have been frequenting this restaurant for years. When I returned yesterday, I was glad to see that I could walk in and sit if I wanted to. However the seats were ripped. The people were nice. This restaurant is horrible. My organization ordered catering from this restaurant last week. We had several pans over undercooked macaroni and cheese. You can see the milk dripping out of the pans in the pictures we took, and the macaroni is undercooked and borderline raw. Many of our members had issues from upset stomach to mild food poisoning. We reached out to the restaurant to see if they could help in any way but they completely were unhelpful, dismissive, and not remorseful. Happened to be stopping at the Verizon store next door and thought this was a sushi place but come to find out it is a fried fish and "soul food" carry out that appears to be run by Asians. They have a bunch of different types of fried fish, and you can get a platter with fish, French fries and coleslaw or a dinner with two sides and cornbread. The sides on offer were mac n cheese, candied yams, collard greens, black eyed peas, green beans. They also make hibachi grilled fish with teriyaki. If you don't like fish they have fried porkchops, fried chicken and chicken gizzard. Not being super adventurous I got breaded fried porgie fish with mac n' cheese and candied yams. I can see where people say the sides are slightly bland but I actually liked that the yams didn't have a pound of sugar and the mac didn't have a pound of cheese. The fish was breaded in something flavorful enough that it didn't need salt, but just beware of bones because at least for this fish they did not take them out which made eating the fish a bit of an adventure. Cornbread was good. Everything seemed to be cooked really fresh and HOT (it's not sitting around on a steam table) and the place was clean. They also sell giant hunks of different types of cake for dessert. I thought the price was OK as I'm used to paying more out in Chesco. The portion size of the dinner plate was enough for me to make 2 meals (I don't eat a lot). I noticed they have a lunch special during certain hours that is cheaper and I bet you get less portion for that too. Overall it's probably not super authentically Southern but since I don't usually find joints like this in my neighborhood it was a nice change of pace. I'd get it again. read more

I ordered a flounder fish platter, I was hungry coming home from work. The flounder fish platter is about $8 dollars. When I got my platter I was very disappointed. 3 scraps of fried thin fish, a pile of French Fries and a cold small coldslaw. The cashier flashed me my platter and rung me up. I said "hold up -that's it?!?" It looked very lite. I refused to pay $8 & an extra $1 for card orders under $10. Smh I argued and they only charged me $4 and no card fee. A couple of co-workers bought this place to my attention, but we never ate there. I decided that I was just gonna go for it because the pictures on Yelp looked pretty good. The food was good although I found it strange that Asian people are selling soul food. This afternoon I purchase meals for my family. Our total came to about $19 . I asked if I could split the charges because they were paying for theirs and I was paying for mine on two cards the gentleman at the register got really nasty with me and told me that I had to pay an additional dollar for my transactions which had not been the case in the past with other cashiers ! I explained to him that I was consistent customer an had spent more than $200 a month every month in the restaurant and had referred friends since they opened . I left the Resturant furious and informed that today was my last purchase with this Resturant. When I arrived home I learned that this Resturant had charged my card more money than the receipt I signed for . Of course my bank has allowed the disputed charge to be credited but very horrible customer service and an insult on my intelligence . I am not an ignorant person and I am using my consumer power to encourage others to not invest in a business that wants to capitalize on cultural groups by insulting their intelligence and taking their money . I just ate at blue Bay seafood on City Avenue, they cut the fish paper thin, almost to the point of being able to see through it . The small piece of fish is one fish cut into chips of fish! If you cannot afford to serve seafood don't claim your seafood restaurant just the worst I've ever had !!!! You should not be able to have the fish so thin that it becomes a child size portion I will never eat there again or recommend them to anyone!!!!! read more

My mother and I went to this restaurant after a day of shopping on the Ave. I was very skeptical, I saw a young sister working the counter and went in and got a menu for my mom to look at in the car......To my surprise there we two (Korean, Chinese, Japanese) not sure, but any hoot the food was slamming (Damn Good). They allowed you to sample any of the sides and they have quite a few.....Check out the menu......The fish was very fresh and displayed in a case for your viewing . The collards, mac & cheese, green beans, fried chicken was better then some brothers and sisters I have eaten. My mother and I dined in because a fast moving storm hit the Ave and we wanted to enjoy. The restaurant was clean as so were the restrooms......We saw several people come and go all with nothing but positive things to say about the restaurant.....My mother and I both took home a second platter and will surly return and recommend to all......Soul Food at some of it's Best. I tried the fried flounder platter and it tasted more like a fried crick chub breaded with roadside gravel. Rotten tasting fries too like they were fried in motor oil. The mac/cheese was not "baked," it tasted like they used cheese sauce, and cooked it on top of the stove instead of baking it in the oven with real cheddar cheese/milk/eggs.
