THIS PLACE. It's unreal. As a ladylike lady, I never expected to want to hang at the hardware store, but they have: helped me fix a flat tire in the parking lot, attached a safety flag and reflectors to my bike trailer, entertained my antsy toddler with hammers and nails, taught me how to snake a drain, answered countless gardening and home repair questions AND made friendly, funny conversation every single time I've stopped in. This is a smallish very clean very well staffed hardware store. They operate a lumber yard as well but have never utilized it. Everyone inside is very proactive giving sound advice and direction. Somethings inside can be had cheaper else ware or online but the staff inside is so warm and helpful that I will do just about anything to just buy something here instead of a big box store. Like many places they thrive by stocking the things walmart or homedepot might not. The closest homedepot doesnt stock metric nuts and bolts bliffert carries them. Since moving to milwaukee I've found a healthy amount of racism in small hardware store settings, not here though. Smiles handshakes and sound advice is what you'll find here. read more

But the few times I have been to Bliffert, the staff have been extremely welcoming and helpful. Bliffert is my go to hardware store for almost everything big or small. The staff is incredibly attentive and helpful. As a contractor for years, I used Bliffert when it was just a lumber yard and as a Landlord and homeowner I am happy they are now a full-service hardware store. Their new store feels boutique-ey compared to the big box stores, but you will be pleasantly surprised to find they have nearly everything you need and somebody will definitely help you find it. They also fix tools, screens, windows, mowers and yard equipment. Kudos to Eli & Mike for the brave expansion in an uncertain economy and tough time for builders and contractors. And on a good day you might see a dog or two in the aisles. Support your local business and next time you need to go to Home Depot; stop at Bliffert first and you will be happy you did. read more

I don't believe I've lived in RiverWest this long and never shopped here. I used to frequent Home Depot for this sort of thing but my wife and I started using Bliffert during the summer for gardening supplies since it's within walking distance of our home. The staff is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable and their prices and selection are solid. Definitely worth it, and I feel better supporting a local business over a large chain like Home Depot. read more

You gotta love a hardware store that has a dog to greet you when you walk in. Manny, I think his name is, a German Shepard mix is super cute and so friendly! Bliffert is the old fashioned hardware store. By old fashioned, I mean people that are at the counter to greet you and ask if there is anything they can help you find? By old fashioned, I mean a parking lot that is manageable and a store you do not get lost in. You can get your stuff and get out. I like that. They have your basic hardware stuff and have most of the "green" yard products as well- Rain barrels, composters, Purple Cow compost. Their prices were very reasonable too- so don't think that is an issue! I recommend Bliffert Lumber to anyone seeking good customer service in a hardware store. read more

Weren't friendly, weren't being the experts I needed them to be with limited knowledge, and they seemed like their only concern was rushing to get me out to get back to whatever they were doing. Customer service is not dead. I know this because I have been to Bliffert. I can ALWAYS rely on the employees here. Everytime I walk in those doors, I am kindly greeted by whoever is at the register, and someone will know how to help me with my many projects that I work on. Bill, Paul, Ed, Steve, Eli, Liz, Ken, Dana and crew are always friendly and knowledgeable. They do have a great selection, but the reason my husband and I will never go here again (especially seeing how well others were treated) is because two of the workers literally watched us struggle to get the wood for our deck in our car and once we finished they ran out acting like we were going to steal what we had. The guy that was in the store was very nice, but after this, I would rather just go somewhere else. read more

I have gotten glass custom cut there for cheap, I had an employee find the exact nut that matches my bike tire when I brought it in and the staff is super friendly. We needed a rototiller but never thought about how unwieldy and heavy it would be. Upon settling the rental and discovering we were only a couple blocks away, Steve agreed to ride along to get the machine out of the car. Then, after work, he came to load it up again. But not only that, the machine quit about an hour into the job and a call to the store, Ken said he would soon be going to lunch and would stop to fix it. He did. We have used Bliffert's Lumber for over 30 years for our home projects. Great at ordering replica hardware and etc. for our 1920's rental property and former home. If you can't find it anywhere else, go to Bliffert's and they will try to find and order it for you. read more
