I was pretty happy with my membership until now, I try to go in the mornings when it's not too busy. But in the last few weeks the bathrooms were out of toilet papers severals times and it's been a few weeks with no hot water. When I inquired about the hot water at the front desk the guy got annoyed and snapped at me that he has no idea about when or of it will be fixed. No apologies, no politeness, I was very disappointed to say the least. Please do not leave me a standard reply of 'we are sorry, we will look into it' but ask your staff to be more courteous, stock up on toilet paper and let the members know when the hot water issue is going to be fixed. read more

If anyone has been scammed or had a bait and switch with your contract, and were locked into the costly cancelation terms of contract terms you were not aware of, or maybe verbally told you could cancel anytime easily .... REPORT your issues to the NY Consumer Protection dept. Also, the better business bureau has over 400 complaints on them. One was so exhausted from his workout the day we trained he sat down and moaned and told me all about his "back" workout the day before. He yawned the entire time and just kept complaining. I even said, "I feel bad to do you want to reschedule?" The second trainer was way more entertaining. He looked like he had just woke up and was reading off his phone like a script and sat down the entire time too. He was socially awkward and I thought I was getting punked. I looked around a few times thinking the candid camera was going to pop out and surprise me. If you have had issues trying to cancel..... You are not the only one. When I entered the gym yo cancel my membership a man said to me 'DON"T JOIN" and I said I'm canceling. He then replied "HAHHA good luck I just tried too" then he left. Sadly if I knew the words he was saying were a prediction of my troubles with Blink DON"T JOIN unless you want to stay with them forever even if you have a horrible experience. Also, ask for a sheet of ALL the terms, as they won't tell you and they tell you one thing but they aren't honest. Some of the machines had torn up cushions and missing knobs. I also got my wallet (with all my important documents) stolen from this place just recently. Be careful with your belongings. My fault for having just my wallet on me in a discreet small black bag, but I walked away for a few secs to get wipes for the machine, and someone had already snuck. I'm loving this gym so far. I've been here twice and love how clean it is. They have great machines and are not busy on Fridays and Saturdays. There are numerous TVs that you can privately listen to on your machine (treadmill or elliptical) with your headphones while you work out. There are two floors so you get to choose from a wide array of machines. So far I haven't seen anyone hogging the machines so hopefully that won't change. This is possibly the best gym I've been to so far. The staff behind the desk is friendly upon arrival which is nice because it makes you feel invited and ready to attack your workout! You get 1 free personal training session upon sign up. It's a good idea to use it and get acquainted with the equipment and you'll get a mini boot camp workout as well. This place is cheaper than some people pay for a meal. There's always tons of machines to pick from. It's open at 7 am for all you early risers. The locker room can be a little chaotic during the after work rush. Don't forget to bring your own lock. And you can't leave your stuff there overnight. There's also plenty of free weights. They are no regular classes, sauna or pool. But to squeeze in cardio for cheap, this is the place for you! read more

So this gym is clean, it is above a new Chipotle and near a starbucks in an area of Brooklyn where you do not easily find both. So the location is good from the perspective that you can load up on carbs before or after your workout and caffeinate adequately anytime. Blink is well run and typical of the industry with their mortgage-like contracts to join and quit, but a good value if you are planning to sign up for a while. These locations are spread liberally around NYC - 5 in Manhattan so good if you are on the move and want to have a place to work out. read more

This is the location I come to most, since it's closest to my house. The staff is great and are constantly working hard to maintain the cleanliness of the facility. They are also very friendly and great you as you come in and as you exit, just like most locations do. It's usually packed at any hour of the day, and the machines are constantly broken. I went a few days ago, and out of the 6 stair master machines, only 2 were working. I wish they would fix the machines quicker, but other than that, it's a gym and if you know what you're doing, you can get a really good workout in. read more

I'm not a fan of this gym experience. I'm constantly fighting for machines because it's so crowded at this location. It's also extremely stuffy inside which makes it difficult to breathe during workouts. Switching to Blink after being at LA fitness for years has been difficult. I'm used to having a basketball/racquet ball court, swimming pool and a sauna. I loved blink for it's cleansliness, equipment and fellow gym goers . . . Everything was nice except for their staff what a bunch of idiots. I started at this branch from day 1 the very first day the gym opened and remained a loyal customer for over 2 years. Over the 2 years I sorta had the feeling of special treatment or consideration to specific types of people if you know what I mean. I paid it no mind because I was all about my work out. I remember one time I lost my debit card and my bank sent a new one cancelling out the old one and that same day I wen to the gym and it showed late payment and they refused to let me in ... I had to go to my car to get the cc because I don't carry my wallet in the gym. Same thing happen at retro fitness (no problem) took care of it didn't even charge me late fees and it was a few weeks late of payment, things happen. But the funny thing is it was a day late and I was there like every fucking day. I hadn't been at retro for over a week realised I needed to update my c.f. information and they said is fine enjoy your work out. No big deal ... 2nd .. I walked in the middle of winter to get my work out drink. Started working out, took 2 sips of my drink and put it down next to my belinhings. I clearly remember looking around and seeing empty trash bottles and paper towels everywhere. Some idiot staff decided to through my full 20 ounce drink in the garbage while the whole gym was full of empty trash and used paper towels .. Which was beyond me. When I told the gay guy at the desk he said to bad. You can imagine he was the same one who didn't let me use the gym that day my cc needed updating ... I simply said to bad then I'm cancelling my account and never ever will I go to that piece of shit gym. I also have found wallets, id cards, car keys and phones and turned it into the staff on many occasions. I lived their for 2-4 hour a day just working out no hanging, no chatting no trouble making. A lot of haters there who mean mug and act like little pansies. read more

The first thing I will mention, is that I go here 5 times a week. I know that it might beg the question, "Five times a week there? You can't dislike it THAT much then..." Insofar as gyms are generally inequitable business models, I do not dislike Blink as an institution, much more than I would dislike any other gym. However, I do dislike them at least a little bit more than other gyms and here is why. Some background information: Blink is a subsidiary of Equinox, it is far more accessible if you are not looking to spend $250/month on a gym. In fact, at $15-$20, it is as competitive as any other New York gym in price. The downside to this, of course is that it is a no-frills institution with less competent employees, no managerial flexibility, no "extras" included and diverse clientele (i.e. maybe there are a couple of working professionals and/or dedicated fitness enthusiasts, but you are far more likely to find Brooklyn college students looking for attention or guys who just got out of prison, than athletes or people with a true passion for a healthy lifestyle.) I will not complain about their poor weekend hours, limited number of locations or other factors that can be discovered on their website. Rather, I will cover in as immediate a fashion as possible, the experiences that have made it less than perfect for me and those which they refuse to rectify, as it is seen as the "you get what you pay for" version of Equinox. They do not make clear in any concise way what peak hours are and unfortunately, other than 5am, I have never seen it look as if it was anything less than "peak hours." The people who talk about how spacious it is are likely not following a specific weight lifting regiment. The treadmills are abounding and if cardiovascular fitness /running or race training is your pursuit, you are completely set. The weights however, are another story entirely. When I first began studying bodybuilding, a friend of mine said something that I will never forget. "You can't just go into the gym and start throwing sh*t around." There are people who are on the Smith machine every day working out every muscle group. In order to work on some squats, deadlifts, bench press etc., you will likely have to wait a very long time. The dumbbell station tends likewise to contain a truckload of people who dangerously swing weights around haphazardly and be not the least bit cognisant of how long they are using equipment. This is all a result of no rules or regulatory conditions governing use of equipment. You can sit on a weight bench and text and take pictures and not touch the weights and until some impolite, assertive like me speaks up, you will successfully impede the fitness routines of everyone around you. Another thing that the STAFF should regulate, is improper use of equipment. Idiots who try to use the assisted pull up machine to work their quads would be a good place to start. This is not just annoying and a good way for people to end up with footprints on their clothing, it is dangerous for both the person misusing the equipment and those who use it after. Yesterday I used the assisted bench press machine after some guy used the bench for an exercise I imagine could only be described as the, "weighted bench goose-step," and found the bench to have a downward slant of about fifteen degrees toward the left side and it felt significantly unstable as if the bolts had come loose. There are no rules posted, other than no phones in the locker rooms (obviously not heeded or enforced) and there is no sense of common purpose as one might find in a more upscale gym. As for the friendliness of the staff, I have found Yvonne to be friendly and the hipster-looking guy with the short hair, beard and glasses, but all in all there is a progressively unhappy feeling that emanates from the front desk and the morale and structure has deteriorated to a point where the last 4 days that I have been there, no one was behind the desk to scan my card until about 2 minutes after I got upstairs. Initially, when I joined and found that people leave the gym and do not re-rack their weights, I used to re-rack them myself, because I had assumed that this might encourage others to follow suit. Instead, the only reaction that I found was one rolly-poley little fellow who walked over and intentionally began un-racking them and sending me snide looks in a clear attempt to provoke me. Again, this is the responsibility of the staff, either to manage clientele or to put weights and equipment back. There should be a dress code enforced as well. Not for stylistic purposes, but for practical reasons. If you are dressed like a hood, odds are that you are not contributing to a positive atmosphere. I have never seen a guy with baggy jeans, gold chains, proudly displaying his brand new cap from Lids, actually work out. I have seen plenty of them risk injury and attempt to show off. It's a clean and a very welcoming place. The staff is friendly and helpful. There are plenty of cardio machines, so there is never a line to use one. Many strength machines of various kind too, so you can always switch up your workout. I love this place and I am planning to become the regular. The only problem I have with this place is parking. I know Blink can't really do anything about that. The place is right on top of the train station, but if you traveling by car, the best bet I found is to come early in the morn and use the meter parking for free till 8am. read more

It's not about fixing your attitude, it's about what your personal needs are...this gym is good if you're just doing cardio and if you come at the right time, which she must have because this place stays crowded. Forget coming weeknights and even on weekends you have to find the sweet spot. Lots of immature college students, ego lifters, social butterflies (male & female) who want to show off their outfits/bodies rather than just work out and folks who hog up machines. Lots of ppl NOT minding their business. But i guess that's a lot of gyms. I also work out NYSC downtown BK & manhattan and don't run into these types of folks. All I ever see there are ppl who are there to work out and get out. I live 2 blocks away and have been a member for 2 1/2 years now. As I've progressed with my weightlifting, I found that I needed a better-equipped gym: One with more than just 2 squat racks, as a lot of ppl use them for bench pressing too; more space for weight training and less cardio machines; one with more variety of equipment. I do commend the staff for keeping the gym clean and they are indeed friendly. All that said, sure, if you're a beginner or only into cardio with maybe occasional strength training, than this is your spot. But as you get more advanced, you might want to consider a better gym (more expensive, yes, but worth it if you can) and keep Blink as your backup. read more

I was under the impression when I signed up that there was a clause about cancelling memberships if you move to an area that has no locations-something that every other gym/organization I have been a member of has had-they do not. They are trying to charge me an exorbitant amount of money to cancel when I have already paid for seven months which I was not even in a state that has a Blink! Furthermore, I have attempted to update my billing information on their website as I am no longer in New York and I have only received an error message on their website when I attempt to do so. It's NOT anything like planet fitness or the other lower priced gym places, well from what i've heard and read. It's priced well, not crowded, clean, cute, and they have all the basics that you need. Now if you want classes and all those extra amenities, this is not the place. You can get a trainer though. It's created by Equinox Fitness, which is a luxury gym chain. This gym is leaps and bounds beyond what I experienced at the YMCA, just about 4 blocks away, in the same neighborhood. If you're looking for a gym membership in the area, this blink essentially has 5 times the space and equipment that the nearby YMCA has, is cleaned more frequently, and just in general has more staff o hand to get things done. Also, the highest membership level at Blink costs nearly half as much as the general membership at the YMCA, so you're pretty much getting way more service for half the price, or even less, if you don't want the top tier membership. Also, if you get a membership at the YMCA, you are only allowed to have friends join you twice IN A LIFETIME, until they have to start paying. Blink allows unlimited visits for your friends. It's pretty clear to me that the YMCA has members almost purely due to the fact that they have been in the area longer and have solid name recognition because when looking at the facilities side by side, it is very clear cut that you would prefer to have better, larger, more inclusive, cleaner, and user friendly facilities, at Blink, especially when the cost is much lower. read more

Please make note that you are only allowed to cancel your membership in person, at the same gym you signed up at, or via certified letter mailed to their HQ. There is no online process, there is no phone process. If you're like me, and move out of state, your only option is a certified letter...for a $15 gym membership, which is insane. Also, after they receive your certified letter, they send you a form to fill out, which you again have to send via certified mail. I cancelled my gym membership due to relocating out of Brooklyn by sending two certified letters to the Park Ave. address as well as the Flatbush Junction location and Blink is still attempting to debit my account for the gym fees. I have called the 800 number listed on the email and tried to reach the gym and no one is manning the phones. I have copies of the letters I sent as well as the certified mail slips confirming delivery and I'm not going to worry about this anymore. In addition, the cancellation takes 45 DAYS to go through and in the meantime they charge you a "pro-rate" of about $9. They also have a "MAINTENANCE FEE" that was charged to my account without my notice, for equipment that I will no longer be using for the rest of the year. read more

Unfortunately, I've been given the run around in regards to my membership fees and cannot in good faith recommend a business that takes your money even after cancelling your membership. Below is an email I just sent to their corporate office, and I've redacted the name of the manager I spoke to because this person has been friendly, which is the least I can say for this place: "My name is Eric Goldschein and I'm writing in regards to my membership with Blink, which I canceled in October of 2014 but am still being charged for monthly. I came into the Flatbush location to cancel my membership personally, was charged a cancellation fee (even though I was unfairly charged for changing my membership status... but that's another story) and filled out all the forms. I spoke to Ashley at the Flatbush location and she was unable to tell me when this would be resolved. I now live in Atlanta, have not gone to a Blink Fitness location in months, and don't understand how this mistake could have been made. I signed my name to cancellation forms and would expect that agreement to be honored. I would like my membership to be cancelled immediately and for my bank account to be reimbursed for the charges placed on me for January, December and November. I came to this location while in the area. I have a Blink pass that allows me to use any gym and bring unlimited guests. I came here with my friend who is also a member of Blink but his account is not up to date. Therefore, for today, he was going to use my guest privileges. The manager, Casey Selby was at the front desk and refused to let us in. Her reason-"A memebsr cannot use guest privileges." I asked her where in my contract does is state that. She said give her a minute and she went to the back. After about 15 minuets, she came back with my contract with a line high listed on page 3. The part highlighted which was rule #5 states, "RULES, REGULATIONS, AND SCHEDULES: Member agrees to abide by all the membership rules, regulations and schedules of the Club, which may be posted at the Club or used orally, and which may be amended from time to time at Blink's sole discretion." No where does this say or justify her claim that a member of Blink cannot be my guest. I have been a guest as a member and I have had members as my guest before. Casey Selby became loud and rude when I asked for corporates number. She offered me a number to billing. I have no billing issues and when I told her that she then offered an email to her boss. I asked her why would she offer me a number to billing. She then lied and she said she didn't. She literally did 5 seconds before. I am now in the process of cancelling my membership with Blink.
