The Canarsie Blinks gym definitely deserves better…read more It's one of the few gyms in the area with a significant number of Black women, which is important because cardio equipment, in particular, is lacking and outdated compared to gyms in other neighborhoods, even ones just miles away. For example, the Blink Fitness at 2166 Nostrand Ave, near the intersection of Nostrand Avenue and Junction Road, is much better than this location. Additionally, the Blink Fitness at 81 E 98th St in Brownsville offers a better experience with updated equipment and a more accommodating atmosphere. The equipment at this Canarsie location, on the other hand, feels worn out--loose, light, and ineffective. Some of the treadmills and step climbers are either broken or overcrowded, and there just aren't enough machines to meet the demand. This gym serves a lot of Black women in a predominantly Black neighborhood who depend on reliable cardio equipment, but I've noticed many of them are forced to go elsewhere. It's frustrating because a good gym location should serve the people in the community well, and this one doesn't seem to. I also had a strange experience in the locker room: there was a guy with a leaf blower drying the floor, and when I walked past, he yelled at me for walking on the wet floor. This was really off-putting. I understand he wanted the floor dry, but using a leaf blower seems like an ineffective and unprofessional method for a gym. I've never seen anyone use a leaf blower in a gym, and as someone who worked as a custodian before, I can tell that a mop or towel would be much more effective. It just added to the overall sense that this location isn't up to par. On a positive note, the lifting equipment is fine if you're into weight training, and the staff downstairs is friendly. If you're looking for something quick to drink, there's a dollar store nearby that sells energy drinks and water. I also like the smoothie and bowl shop across the street. It's frustrating because, with all the great supporting stores around, there's no reason why the equipment here can't be updated to better serve the community.

The "Stand Up Cable" has been broken for over a month and they never fixed it. It would have been fixed if the gym was in an affluent area. We, the people, demand better. Planet Fitness Carnesie located at 856 Remsen Avenue, Brooklyn NY,11236, is highly dishonest!…read more I was at that location April 15th 2023 where I cancelled my membership. The manager was there and claimed he did it for me. Come to discover that each month since then they have been removing membership frlee from my account. I call them today and was told that the membership was never canceled and that they cannot issue me a refund for all the months they have been removing fees, though the fault isnt mine and I have not set foot in that establishment or used their services since April 15th 2023. They further advised that the only way cancelation can occur is for me to physically come in..again...to get it done and they will continue to remove money from my account until the cancelation is done. I am not physically in NY at this time and for the life of me I cannot understand why they just cannot do it on their end. Why did I cancel in the first place? When I joined the gym I was told they had personal trainers. I started going in March 2023 and discovered they had none. I was advised by the manager that the last trainer no longer worked there and they would have someone new within a month. I don't know how to use gym equipment so I was glad to have the personal trainer services to help. I decided to biew youtibe tutorials in the interim.and I would take my tripod with me and set it up.and look at tutorials on my phone. April 15th I was advised by a staff member that tripods went against their policy...I explained i wasnt recording i was looking at a tutorial..she continued tobsay it didnt matter, tripods weren't allowed. I wrnt downstairs where I found the manager, and told him why I was using the tripod and asked for an update regarding when the new trainer will start. He advised me then that they decided to no longer offer personal training services. I told him that was not communicated to me and wasn't what I was presented with as a benefit of joining the gym and I requested my membership be canceled....false advertising, not communicating with their customers. I re-download their app to remove my banking information to avoid them taking more money out...come to find out, I am unable to alter or remove my banking information. This is so grossly dishonest if you ask me and horrible business practices on their part. I have sinced filed a complaint with the better business bureau, requested a stop payment from my bank and also filed a dispute with my bank for the prior charges and the current one. I have not stepped a foot in that gym since April 15th..the manager either is all out liar or plain dumb because all this time I am thinking the membership is canceled and enjoying a better experience at a new gym meanwhile they keep taking money outta my account. One thing for sure, I've now learned I need to check my bank statements each and every month..or I could have stopped this months ago

This gym would get a 5 star just because of LyneLuvDance!!!! I haven't used the machines yet…read morebecause I enjoy going to the classes. She is amazing. Great personality, beautiful, full of life. Try one of her classes, you will come back for me. I would give it a one star but I feel bad because it's not a huge deal, more aggravating then anything. So I'll give it a three star for the incompetence of the workers who called me to schedule my hour session for signing up. I was on the phone for 10 minutes explaining what time works for me & after 10 times telling her that anything before 7 doesn't work, we agreed for 7:00PM. A different worker called me the day before the scheduled date & advised the appointment was for 5:30PM. I explained how it was for 7:00PM. I rescheduled for another day for 7:00PM. Once again, I got a phone call the day before the scheduled date & advised the appointment was for 7:30PM. At first I agreed but then called & cancelled because I was taking a class from 6:30PM- 7:00PM & didn't want to waste 30 minutes standing around when I could be home cooking dinner. I think they intentionally change the time without confirming with the clients hoping they will come anyway because they want to squeeze other people in & change times.

IF YOU HAVE DISABILITIES DO NOT GO TO CRUNCH. THANK YOU A.. WHO REMINDED ME OF THAT THIS MORNING…read more Maya Angelo has a saying "when someone shows you who they are the first time, believe them. That is so true. Crunch Fitness on 1038 Flatbush showed me before what type of business they were, the same Manager is there, who previously when I had concerns and asked to speak with her, she was always in a meeting and never made time to speak with me. The District Manager never reached out to me also. They were all invisible running this Huge Corporation called Crunch Fitness. I am the first to admit I was wrong to have gone back there. But, you give people a chance and hope for the best. Never, Ever again. I Went to Crunch Fitness this morning, I greeted the person at the Entrance desk with "Good Morning". I clocked in and proceeded to the Elevator and did not notice at first that it was out of order again. That is nothing for many because they will climb the steps as another form of exercise but for someone like myself who has implants in both my feet, bilateral knee replacements, total reverse right shoulder replacements, cervical stenosis implants, my entire left leg has Numbness and weakness because I have major problems with my back of which I will be having major surgery in September. My coordination is off. I move slow because my gait is unsteady. For that reason I use a small Shopping Cart to put my Gym bag in and to help steady my gait. My shopping Cart is small. I bring it everywhere with me. Whenever I, go to Crunch Fitness, I take the Elevator to the lower lever, put my small shopping cart in a corner and take the Elevator up to the second floor to use the Recumbent Bike and Treadmill. I do, what I was instructed to do in Rehabilitation. No one in the pass has never "Told me, I can't Bring My Little Shopping Cart" to help me ambulate and carry my things in. My shopping Cart has never bothered anyone. But this morning when I went back to the front desk to inquire about the Non Working Elevator I was made aware that I was not allowed to bring a Shopping Cart. I made the individual aware that I was using it for my safety and stability. But that fell on deaf ears. I asked how soon the Elevator was going to be repaired and I got a response of "I don't know". I was further told that the Manager comes in at 8 am and I can come back and ask her any questions. I verbalized that in the past the Manager never had time to speak with me to address my concerns. The Manager was always in a "Meeting". The response I got was a shoulder lift. I asked for the District Manager's Name and Phone Number. I got a response of I don't know who he is and what's his phone number". I verbalize to this young woman that in my line of work when I precept New Nurses, I have told them learn everything about your job and the people who are in charge. It will be to your benefit. After working for many years and dealing with people's personalities either medically and socially. I observed this young woman had an attitude. I address her as I would address anyone professionally "Ms Amy" and told her that I want to cancel my membership. She hesitated at first to my request and then started the process. She addressed me as "Elizabeth". I corrected her and told her address me as Ms Elizabeth, in the same professional manner I addressed you. She pointed her face to me and said "I, am not a Ms", just Amy. Wow, who train some of these individuals for Customer Services. My last words to her was I wish you the best and hope you never get any physical disabilities but you don't know what others go through and how they feel and you don't have a nice attitude. I could she did care. But with everything I don't blame her because everything Starts from the top, if the District Manager and Gym Manager never reached out to address my concerns in the past and will do nothing now, it leaves the door open for staff to behave anyway they want and say what they want because they know their will be no repercussions for their actions. NB I was a member of this Gym before left because of Elevator issues and my medical issues of which, to have surgery again not by choice but necessity. I came back and joined Crunch fitness - Question- should I not have been oriented to the Gym, equipments and shown around. Should I been given the Tee Shirt that is promised to you when you join the Gym. Nothings was done or given. I am over Crunch Fitness. AMY MADE A FUSS WITH ME FOR MY LITTLE SHOPPING CART TO HELP ME AMBULATE AND HOLD MY PERSONAL STUFF, BUT WHEN THE TRAINER WHO HAS HIS LARGE SPEAKER BLASTING MUSIC IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TREADMILL AND OTHER MACHINE, ALONG WITH MATS AND WHATEVER ELSE THEY ARE USING, NO ONE COMPLAIN. THE LOCKER ROOM SMELL OF URINE. THE GARBAGE RECEPTACLE THAT IS PLACED NEXT TO THE TREADMILL ON THE FAR RIGHT THAT MEMBERS SPIT IN, IS DISGUSTING. MS. AMY GO MAKE ROUNDS AND SEE THE REAL ISSUES NOT MY SHOPPING CART.

Also, he is fair in his pricing model and operates with integrity. I have trained off and on for 5-6 years at this point and each time I return, there is no judgment. Say it with me: working out is a lifestyle and NOT a fad. Note that the program works when you do, just like anything else in this thing called life. One key to remember is that your diet is 85%. Again, diet is 85% of this and you will never outperform a bad one. Every personal trainer isn't for every single trainee and that is okay. If you want an Equinox experience, you must pay that cost! Chatter aside, you cannot discount the brilliant personal training and nutrition program that Skip has built which focuses on a few core things: water intake, macronutrients, plus an abbreviated training schedule. Skip was rude, dismissive, and refused to provide info about what kind of nutrition and exercise is part of his program. That's basic customer service. Go to any website and you get at least a FAQ overview. I provided 1 screenshot for context on the way he speaks to people, but there are many more examples.
