Overcrowded, hard to get equipment. There are so many people that a lot of exercise machines, weights are hard to get. Once you get a hold of the weights there is no room to exercise as the equipment and the racks with weights and people already exercising are so close to each other that it is difficult to find space to work out. Been coming here for years even back when it was golds gym. Gym equipment staff and amenities have always been top notch just a overall great place. But in recent years seems the standards that were upheld that made this place great have greatly diminished. Customers no longer clean up after themselves, re rack weights or treat the equipment with respect. This place has become just another fade gym that people follow and come and ruin. Been with harbor for like 2+ years now. It feels like a "real" gym. Not that a blink or planet fitness are inadequate, just something about the setting is different at a gym like these. Classic machines, dark warm lighting, great cardio variety, and overall a vibe that makes you think "i cant wait to do this this and that tomorrow". Employees are always great and kind, and the community built in the majority of the harbor's ive been to are always really welcoming and tight. As far as progressing ive lost over 80+ pounds going to this gym, and increased my main compound lifts easily over 500lbs+ in total. Love these gyms, would recommend! read more

This is an overall well rounded gym. This staff is amazing and it's never overcrowded. People are genuinely getting their workout in! The locker rooms are kept very clean, there are always towels available, and their personal training is impeccable! Well, I can only speak for myself, of course, as I have been working with Dawn since the birth of my membership. She is amazing. She switches up my workouts so I am always challenged. Before Dawn, I gravitated towards weighted machines but I have learned how much conditioning I can gain through bodyweight exercises and free weights! Amazing! I have toned out beautifully, if I should say so myself :) Also, I personally love that there is parking available either on the street or in the lot that's available. Intimidation is not a factor here. People are friendly! I would highly recommend this gym to any level of fitness! Oh! Would honestly give this gym 0 stars if it were an option. By far the worst atmosphere for a gym I've ever seen. Members seem to be mainly the types that are viewed as inconsiderate and other gyms have one or two of them. Harbor Mill Basin seems to have attracted all of them from the other gyms. People hog multiple machines at a time for 30-45 minutes but will also have no problem removing your stuff when you go to get an extra weight plate. People leave their stuff all over and then stare at themselves in the mirror for hours. Weight plates are consistently left on machines and equipment not returned to its proper location. If you're looking for a social gym or a gym with considerate people this is likely not the spot. The maintenance staff is actually friendly and kind. But the rest of the staff, such as the front desk and trainers are subpar, to put it kindly. The front desk never greets most members in a friendly way and will often just ask for your membership number bluntly when you arrive, if they greet you at all. They are often just talking amongst themselves and don't even pay sight to you. Often, I have had to either nearly beg them to input my membership number or just walk by without signing in. The trainers are unprofessional as well. I have seen many times where trainers' clients break rules such as leaving plates on equipment, weights unreturned to their spot, or not wiping down their sweat after use. The trainers seem to implicitly endorse their behavior. The gym is also nearly always packed. It really doesn't matter when you go. Early morning, middays, early afternoon, evenings. 70% of the time there are no spots in the parking lot. Overall, this gym is an uneven experience that decreases your motivation to work out. It may be for some people, but not for most. Rampant with non-professionalism and intentional disregard for its members. read more

So i've been going to Harbor Fitness Mill Basin for about a month now and i must say, it's a good, solid gym. They offer a free 7-day trial pass and it's an excellent way to become familiar with all of the gym's offerings. Great aspects of the gym: - Wide variety of cardio equipment: bikes, ellipticals, rowing machines, ladders, and more. - Different workout areas like a stretching station, a boxing gym, weightlifting, and personal training section. - Even though it's situated on one expansive level, it never feels crowded or claustrophobic. - Great class schedules with various workout activity types (e.g. Zumba, Piloxing, Cycling, Bootcamp, etc.) Side note: Rashid and Owen are such ENERGETIC Zumba instructors! You really burn lots of calories with them. - Helpful staff members who are mostly friendly and are always cleaning or sprucing up. They never let the gym get dirty. - Most patrons are good about wiping down equipment with cleanser after each use. - There's a juice bar, with a succint yet comprehensive menu. It's easy to find something you'll like that's healthy. - Nice amenities such as childcare, personal trainers, and even a physical therapy office! Things that can be improved: - With such modern amenities in the gym, it's a wonder the locker room feels like it's from the 60s. While the faucets are automatic, the soap dispensers and the napkin dispensers are not! One can only imagine the bacteria lurking on each of those items. Also, there should be a digital scale available for those who want to check their weight. And PLEASE get some ventilation or fans in there. It's not normally too smelly but this evening it smelled like a sewer. - The class schedule should include additional zumba classes. It's such a popular class that folks start lining up to get in, thereby obstructing patrons who want to freely move around. Additional classes at different times would afford patrons more times to get their workout on, without clamoring to join the 1 Zumba class per day. I immediately felt empowered taking this class. Stef was encouraging without being mean. I hate "tough love." Stef is not like that - the right amount of pushy that my lazy ass needs! Good morning Bergen beach and mill basin on June 3, 2023 I was harassed and Assaulted at Harbor Fitness mill basin location. I was asked to leave the gym. After I hired an attorney they removed the man that assaulted me. However I had my sixteen year old son personally training there. He could not stay in the gym without me, as he was underage. The owner Mike said he would give me my son whom is 16 years old his funds back. He has still not given me my sons 500 dollars back. He is still holding on to my sons personal training funds and memberships. First you kicked his mom out after I was harassed and assaulted and now you're holding on to his funds after working his summer job??? My attorney has contacted them several times but they are refusing to give him his money back... how sad that you need to hold on to this young boys money... read more

I'm changing my review from a 2 star to a 5 star because everyone deserves second chances. After working out at the Marine Park location for a few months. I decided I liked the Mill Basin one better since it wasn't as crowded. So I signed up for the 6 months membership and have been loving it since! The customer service has gotten a lot better than the last time I came here and the facilities and gym are still amazing. I'm currently training for a race I'll be taking in July and decided to get a personal trainer. I met Dawn who is amazing! She's been great and super reliable and very understanding of my crazy work schedule. Its a great feeling knowing your trainer is there with you every step of the way and wants you to succeed. After being a member for over 10 years I did not renew my membership this year and many of my friends have not also . The machines are old for the money you pay and break often plus the locker room smells really bad most days. The parking is horrendous as you compete with a school and bowling ally during peak hours in the morning. . Clearly you have to be brain dead if you take a class with the loud blasting music that spoils any workout inside a studio or out on the gym floor. No lack of brain dead people in Mill Basin that's for sure. I go to a gym to release stress not add to it. Have a nice life Harbor Fitness you won't be part of mine. read more

I feel like gym deserves a lot of praise for what they are doing during COVID-19 times. They are amazing with communication and taking names and temperatures everyday by following regulation. Offer hot towel with sanitizers to clean all the gym equipment (which they had cleaning products around all before). They have spaced out the machines and put signs on every other machine to make sure everyone can still feel safe and socially distant when working out. I feel safe every time I go in there and I know that if there is another lockdown I will be notified and alerted by them and they will do everything they can to come back stronger. Great gym, excellent classes and equipment. But most importantly I just love my personal trainer Dawn. She is highly professional, very thoughtful and detail-oriented. She knows muscle anatomy, and is very precise in which exercises and which muscle groups to train from class to class. I have been with her for almost a year now, and every session is priceless. The treadmills all have tv's built in, and apple chargers for your iPhone or iPod. All equipment is new and in good working order. [3] The people that work there seem happy to be there. Harbor at Mill Basin is a great gym. I have been a member for 4 years. I love that it is super clean, has enough machines and weights for everyone, has friendly staff and awesome classes. The spin classes are amazing; Jodi, Marcus and Maria are my favorite instructors. I also highly recommend Michele, who is an outstanding Personal Trainer. She has transformed my body and given me back my self confidence. The exercises she has taught me are now part of my everyday life. I no longer have back pain or hip pain and have much better flexibility. The gym has a family atmosphere; staff get to know you and members become friends. I joined in November and love this place it is clean has great machines and classes. I personal train with Michelle and she is AMAZING. But for me the best part is that my Mom uses the Physical Therapy and I can only say great things about them. She is 88 years old and has had trouble walking for many years. She only started with Evolve physical therapy a few weeks ago and is already seeing improvement. LOVE this gym. I live in Sheepshead Bay, and it was a little hard for me to find a gym in the area. Bally's sucks, and NYSC on the belt is a little far... I'm so happy I found Harbor and it's only a 10 minute drive. They have a parking lot, and there is plenty of parking on the streets of Millbasin. The gym is clean, the equipment is all new and in working order. The cardio machines all have TVs built in and apple chargers for your iphone/pod. There's free wifi (not that I ever used it... but my nephew does, when he goes to their free daycare and brings his ipad). The staff is super friendly. There's a sauna, shower, and locker room. The one thing I would change is the class schedule. There are TONS of morning and early evening classes (4-8pm weekdays), but I would love to see some mid-day classes for weekends and weekdays. Weekend classes are generally all over by 12pm and sometimes, well, it's just too hard to get out of bed before then. also, their personal training packages are affordable, and they offer payment plans read more

Clean, with modern equipment, and very well-maintained, it could easily compete with other gyms that charge twice it's monthly membership fee. The weight room is wall-to-wall testosterone as serious bodybuilders workout here, complete with their guttural grunts, bro speak, and jugs of neon liquids. May be intimidating to some (like me) but it speaks to the quality of the facility that a bodybuilding competitor may be practicing poses just a few feet away from a senior citizen aerobics class. Yes, they are a bit expensive but compared to other gyms in the city (Which is $100+ a month) Habor is worth it. I joined Harbor January 2017 at 172lbs! (Yikes). I met a sweet and knowledgeable trainer there,Shaun. He is the best! So patient with me and always available to train me. He gives me the right workouts for my body type and makes it fun! Shaun is creative and has a variety of workouts every time. So far I've lost 15lbs plus! I feel great and can't wait till summer. Love this gym. Super excited to visit other locations. Parking here is a breeze, it is not a business ridden area so there is a private lot and street parking available. Juice bar, clean locker room, many cardio machines, free weights, classes, complimentary towels and a friendly staff! I came here over the weekend after searching for a nearby gym and I think I finally found it after living in the area for 6 months. Compared to other gyms, yea, it can be pricey but honestly you pay for what you get. I don't mind shelling 50+ for a gym if it's worth it and if the other locations are half as good then I am sold. Currently I am on a 7 day trial pass and look forward to counting with membership. The location is convenient since the mall and parkway is nearby. I had no problem finding/using a machine despite the amount of people occupying the gym. As with other gyms, it is full during prime time, thankfully I have a schedule that permits me to come during off hours. My only gripe is that I had a hard time finding towels to clean up after using a machine and felt like a pig after not being able to wipe in time before someone else used the machine. Also, the scale in the ladies room was not functioning properly but I'm sure its due to the repeative uses. Overall? Sold. My new 2nd home for sure. read more
